A new update for The Escapists is now live with a host of fixes and improvements to the prison editor beta trial, based on your excellent feedback in our forums.
We've also added a new NPC to the game. BAM.
Let’s get stuck in, shall we?
The Escapists Prison Editor Beta (Steam Only):
• Added the ability to update maps on Steam Workshop: This means that, if you’re making changes to an existing map, you’ll no longer need to create a new Workshop file.
IMPORTANT: Updating an existing prison will invalidate any existing player save data for that prison – be sure to warn your inmates!
• Added tagging to Prison Editor and Workshop: You’ll now be able to choose from a few tags that will help players find your prison in the Steam Workshop! You’ll be able to give players an indication of how difficult your prison is, the style of your prison and its development status (Complete – no more updates / Work In Progress – players should expect updates).
There are also additional tags which will be set automatically depending on the settings that you apply to your prison during creation.
Please note: prisons with incorrect tags (eg: YouTuber prisons tagged as Real Prisons) may be removed by the moderators. Tag accurately!
• Added additional language support for the prison editor beta: German, French, Spanish, Russian and Polish languages are now supported. To change the language in use, use the buttons on the game launcher.
• The “undo” function now works correctly when undoing object placements.
The Escapists Game:
• Fixed multiple bugs relating to prisoners being inappropriately sideways. • Guard Towers will no longer shoot prisoners at night time. • Fixed an issue which caused fake wall blocks to be placed incorrectly. • A new visitor will now visit inmates at the visitation area. • A new item has been added to the game. The “DoDo Donut” can be found as a rarely spawning item in item spawn locations. Using this item will replenish fatigue and make you “Rad”.

I've warned you in the past about misuse of the prison's generous provision of internet access enabled computers and, if I have to do it again, there will be trouble.
This "Ductism" craze has gone too far. I have a keen appreciation of both classic and modern art - your destruction of it through strategic placement of Duct Tape is abhorrent and stops now. Anyone caught practising Ductism from this message onwards will have their internet access priveleges revoked.
And when I find out where all this Duct Tape is coming from, whoever is responsible will spend the rest of their sentence strapped to the roof of their prison with Duct Tape.

Of the 4,700 prisons created using The Escapists Prison Editor in the past week, 12 made it onto the Prisons of Fame Week 1 shortlist, as chosen by you.
There can only be one winner of the highly sought after Escapists Hoodie though, and I've been testing, probing and escaping from each shortlisted prison to determine who came out on top - and who spent the rest of their sentence in the SHU.
The USS Lockwing is a prison ship. IN SPACE. If that mere combination isn't enough, Warden Axonium even recreated stars and planets through clever use of light sources and scenery.
Aside from great design, the prison functions really well too. Relatively small, you really get the sense that you are trapped in space - doomed to serve your sentence or face oxygen starvation and an eventual collision with overwhelming gravity.
They teach you at Warden School never to work with children or animals. Kulkinz foolishly disobeys this directive with his prison influenced by a school.
The design here is fantastic with great attention paid to the theme. The canteen has school style tables, there's an IT Lab and even a large library.
I like this prison. Alot. Mostly because of the surrounding electric fence and Grizzly's obvious love of guard towers, but also because I imagine prisoners walking around screaming KUWABARA KUWABARA (which is a Japanese phrase used to ward off lightening) before their escape attempts.
It's a really solid prison with 1 well hidden weakness. Play it, see if you can find it, wear rubber shoes.
CONGRATULATIONS AXONIUM! Your prison will be featured in the shiny and new PRISONS OF FAME Winners Collection and I'll be in touch soon to arrange delviery of your hoodie. Good work Warden.
Nominations for Week 2 of PRISON OF FAME are open now, just head to this thread and post a link to the prison you'd like to nominate to ensure that it gets considered next week. You have until Friday to nominate and remember - you cannot nominate your own work.
