No Man's Sky - timdog99
Hello Everyone!

Yesterday, we released the OUTLAWS update for No Man’s Sky, enabling the pirates of the universe to better retaliate against the SENTINEL authorities upgraded earlier in 2022. After we revisited and refreshed planetary combat in SENTINEL, it felt like a natural progression to improve ship handling and combat, and deepen pirate-related gameplay throughout No Man’s Sky. The passionate community response is always fantastic fuel for us – it’s exciting to see you all claiming and piloting the new Solar Ships, fighting against or aiding outlaw forces, and swishing around in capes.

The new expedition, Blighted, aligns with the piratical theme of OUTLAWS. Travellers will follow the trail of a pirate faction known as The Blight and their mysterious treasure, gathering clues and decrypting milestones. Expeditions give us an opportunity to mix up different styles of gameplay, and this fast-paced treasure hunt should again feel a little different from previous expeditions.

The Blight are alert to the presence of Travellers seeking their riches, and have already taken hostile measures to trap would-be treasure seekers on the radiated hills of Issh 77/R6. Restore your compromised ship to embark on a journey across exotic stars and ocean beds, into the heart of Sentinel and outlaw territory – and ultimately, for those who persevere, to The Blight’s legendary pirate treasure.

The Blighted expedition begins today, and will run for approximately five weeks.

Begin a new Community Expedition game to join the treasure hunt, and collect exclusive, limited-edition rewards along the way.

When the Blighted expedition concludes, your progress will be converted to a Normal mode save, and rewards can be redeemed across all save games.

Blighted Expedition Rewards

Sputtering Starship Trail
This ramshackle ship exhaust nozzle was hand-assembled in an emergency by an outlaw. Has an occasional propensity to explode, but with no adverse effect on flight handling.

Outlaw-Themed Posters
Transform your base your base into an outlaw’s sanctuary with these pirate-themed posters – celebrating all things anarchistic and rebellious.

Exclusive Flag Designs
This range of exclusive flags provide a variety of decoration choices for bases, to suit a range of tastes – from the delicate Heraldry Flag to the bold Piracy Flag.

Wayward Cube
This cubic lifeform drifted into an orbital station from another reality, where it was captured by a travelling merchant. Provides placid companionship when rehomed in a habitable base.

Outlaw Cape
A battle-worn cape, stolen from The Blight. Woven from chemically-dipped nano-fibres, the fabric is completely impervious to the heat produced by jetpack exhaust.

Our next update for No Man’s Sky is never far away, and though the team is taking a moment to celebrate the release of OUTLAWS and the Blighted expedition, we are continuing to work tirelessly on new content and features!

Our journey continues.

Hello Folks!

We’re delighted to let you know our next update is called OUTLAWS and it launches today. This is a particularly explosive update with the focus on the underworld of No Man’s Sky for the first time. We have overhauled Space Combat, introduced a new pirate underworld and added solar sail ships (the first new ship class in the game in over 2 years - since our LIVING SHIP update). You can also now hire your own squadron of wingmen, smuggle illegal goods, and protect your settlement from pirate ship raids.

Our last update (SENTINEL) focused on ground combat, broadening the risk, reward and fun for players exploring on planet. Similarly we were really delighted to put some love into Space Combat with this latest update (OUTLAWS) and I know this is one the community has been really eager for.

Please check the patch notes here for full details, but these are just a few of the additions which OUTLAWS brings:

Outlaw Stations
Outlaws have taken over space stations all across the galaxy. Outlaw systems are dangerous, lawless places, with frequent conflict (but this all represents an opportunity for players with an eye for raiding passing starships…)

A new series of missions leads players towards pockets of rebellion, where they’ll find an underworld offering pirate missions, black-market technology, and a chance to acquire valuable goods illegal elsewhere in the galaxy. Like-minded players can even acquire a forged passport that will allow them by-pass the authorities.

Solar Starship
With unique solar-powered sail and sleek bodywork, this is the vessel of choice for those looking to speed between the stars. The Solar Ship is No Man’s Sky’s first new starship since the start of 2020. There is considerable variety across this range of ships, so look forward to scouring the galaxy for the perfect version to match your existing fleet. The maximum number of ships a player can own has been raised from six to nine, so you don’t have to worry about limiting your fleet either.

Smuggling
Illegal goods can be purchased in outlaw systems and be smuggled out for a significant profit. A smuggler’s life is dangerous. The Sentinels are on the lookout for contraband, and discovery is only a cargo probe away…

Cargo Inventories
All players - not just the smugglers - will benefit from the addition of specialist cargo inventories to all starships. These high-capacity slots can store large quantities of cargo, and storage-hungry players can unlock extra slots from the ship upgrade terminal found on all space stations.

Squadrons
Players can now recruit and upgrade their own wingmen. Collect your perfect set of ships and pilots. Each pilot comes with their own abilities, and can be upgraded over time to improve the combat ability.

Space Combat
Space combat has been overhauled for speed and excitement. Handling has been improved, weapons have new visual effects and enemy starships now have shields. Depth has also been added to weapon selection with a variety of specialist secondary effects, such as slowing enemy engines or disabling shield systems. Ship-to-ship combat can now occur within a planet’s atmosphere too - and pirates may raid your settlements. For those who find Space Combat difficult, flight accessibility has been significantly improved with a new Auto-Follow mode.

It’s so surprising for us, after six years to see No Man’s Sky still resonating with folks. It meant so much to the team to see our last update (SENTINEL) bring in so many new players and exceed expectations, and following that it blew our minds to win the “Evolving Game” category at the BAFTAs last week. All this and our Switch version is shaping up nicely in the background!

Our journey continues.

Hello Everyone!

Last week, we released our first No Man’s Sky update for 2022: SENTINEL. An overhaul and refresh of combat is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time, so it’s very exciting to now be able to share this work! It’s always great to see how our amazing community engages with each update; we’ve loved reading about everyone strategising against the expanded sentinel forces, using the new weapons in creative and interesting ways, as well as unearthing sentinel secrets and constructing robotic companions.

In contrast with this adrenaline-fueled update, today we are happy to announce the start of the more gentle-paced Exobiology expedition, themed around discovering and interacting with the strange and varied alien creatures inhabiting the universe.

Each Traveller will begin their journey in a lonely star system devoid of wildlife, but with a towering bipedal creature companion to accompany them. Journey across the expedition route to meet majestic diplos, gather eggs and milk, and endeavour to impress Iteration Cronus with your baking skills. Discover new species inhabiting anomalous worlds and ocean depths, befriend and nurture new companions, rendezvous with other players, and much more.

The Exobiology expedition begins today, and will run for approximately five weeks.

As with previous expeditions, players will start a new save and all begin on the same planet – and will have the opportunity to collect a number of limited edition rewards!

When Exobiology concludes, your progress will be converted to a Normal mode save, and rewards can be redeemed across all save games.

Exobiology Rewards

Reality Glitch Jetpack Trail
The jetpack exhaust is fitted with a high-concentrate pugneum dispenser. When the jets are activated, the resulting reaction carves miniature distortions in reality… as well as creating an interesting visual effect.

Creature-Themed Posters
Decorate your base with these Abyssal, Solstice and Territories posters – ranging from a gold-framed butterfly evoking the nostalgia of long summer days, to a dark reminder of what lurks in the depths below…

Exotic Companion Armour
Ideal for fierce-tempered companions, this stylish plate armour protects vital organs against laser and projectile fire. Ultra-soft breathable padding reduces the likelihood of companions wriggling out of the accessory.

Exotic Wingpack
An elegant wing-assisted jetpack, inspired by the design philosophy of exotic starships.

Sentinel Quad Companion
This Sentinel Quad Egg will hatch a tireless quadrupedal robotic companion, reprogrammed to be loyal and safe around Travellers, though ever watchful.

Alongside working on new content and features for No Man’s Sky, we will continue to listen to feedback and address important issues reported by the community. We have so much more planned for this year!

Our journey continues.

Hello!

We are starting off 2022 as we mean to continue! We are pleased to announce that the first update of the year is available to download for free today. It’s called No Man’s Sky SENTINEL. Full patch notes can be found here.

The Sentinel update brings an overhaul of the combat systems in game and enemies you meet, to create something much more challenging and exciting. No Man’s Sky is a game about exploration, but our universe has always been one filled with hazards and danger. Sentinels police the planets you explore, and have long been an element of the game we want to make more interesting, deep and fun - whilst also allowing players to defeat and overcome them in a more meaningful way.

Fortunately this update comes with a huge array of combat improvements and enhancements for the battle-scarred Traveller. You have access to new weapons, like the charged energy shotgun, active camo and the new stun grenade. Mechs can now be programmed to protect you in combat.

Sentinels have become more formidable too. They have devised new classes, like Heavies, Summoners, Medics and even an Exo-Mech. Sentinels also deploy new weaponry like the flamethrower and utilise protective shields. And for the brave, the locations of sentinel “nests” have been made known, adding generous rewards for raiding these infested hives.

With the Sentinel update, players will learn about the lore of how Sentinels came into being. Among the rewards for facing down new sentinel missions is the ability to re-program and adopt your very own friendly AI drone, as well as salvaging parts to create defenses of your own. There is also a new Expedition launching next week, with a tonne of new rewards.

This is a huge update, but here are just some of the additions:

Sentinel Hardframe Mech - Battle against a brand new robotic enemy - the huge, heavily armoured Hardframe mech. Equipped with lasers, terrain-destroying grenades, and a plasma-powered flamethrower, this fearsome new Sentinel launches itself across the battlefield with a high-powered jetpack.

Total Visual Overhaul for Weapons - All Multi-Tool systems, from the Mining Laser to the Scatter Blaster, have received a significant visual overhaul, benefiting from new projectiles and beams, muzzle flashes, lighting effects, refraction, new impacts and more!

Advanced Combat Upgrades - New upgrades add depth to combat, with the ability to add stun or incineration effects to your existing weapons, or to set up your Multi-Tool to deal extra damage to targets you've previously tagged. Or, take advantage of the new Cloaking Device to vanish mid-fight and gain the strategic upper hand.

AI Robotic Companions - Players can reassemble and reprogram their own friendly robotic drone companion, or go one step further and salvage Sentinel Hardframe parts to build their own autonomous AI-powered giant mechanical escort.

New Stories and Missions - Work with the crew of the Space Anomaly on a substantial new story-driven mission, or raid the sinister Sentinel Pillars to access their archives and probe the secrets of the Atlas and the World of Glass...

Combat Flow and Feel Improvements - A vast list of tweaks and refinements have been made to weapon feel and flow, making for a more dynamic and impactful combat experience.

New Drone Enemies - Regular Sentinel units have been overhauled, with heavy combat and shield drones, dedicated repair drones, and even advanced summoning units joining the existing patrol drones.

Full patch notes are available here.

Last year saw the No Man’s Sky team releasing a tonne of updates (including Companions, Expeditions, Prisms, Frontiers) and our first expeditions (like Beachhead, Emergence, Pioneers, Cartographers). I don’t doubt that 2022 will be just as productive for our small team.

We look forward to seeing our communities take on the reinforced might of the sentinels in this, the 18th No Man’s Sky update.

Our journey continues.

No Man's Sky - timdog99
Hello!

One of our biggest surprises in 2021 has been the popularity of Expeditions. It’s been absolutely lovely to watch folks play No Man’s Sky in new ways (like working together to escape a hellish planet, which prompted this lovely Eurogamer article), and to surprise players with unexpected rewards (like the moment the Normandy from Mass Effect warped into No Man’s Sky for the first time in “Beachhead”).

We have always wanted starting a new expedition to be an exciting refresher, a way for experienced players to find a new perspective on No Man’s Sky, or for new players to find a part of the universe they hadn’t yet experienced. But this very busy year, and the limited-time nature of the expeditions, has meant that it has been difficult for some people to participate in them.

As a one off, we wanted to give people who missed out on any of this year’s expeditions another chance to experience the unique challenges and rewards they offered over this Thanksgiving and Christmas period when life slows down a bit, and hopefully gives us all more free time! We’ve even managed to bring back the Normandy as a reward for those who missed out, which I know so many have asked for.

We’ll be starting on the 24th November with another opportunity to play "Pioneers", the very first expedition. Starting an expedition is as simple as starting a new game. Instead of loading a save, choose ‘Community Expedition’ from the mode select screen and begin your journey!

Alongside the expedition, we are also releasing a small update with a number of bug fixes and quality of life improvements. Full patch notes can be found here.

Expedition Holiday Schedule

Each expedition will run for two weeks, and they have been tweaked to account for this shorter time window. Each expedition has also been given a new starting planet and route through the galaxy. They will run back-to-back, as follows:

Expedition 1 (Pioneers): 24th November - 7th December

Expedition 2 (Beachhead/Normandy): 8th December - 21st December

Expedition 3 (Cartographers): 22nd December - 4th January

Expedition 4 (Emergence): 5th January - 19th January

This marks the end of 2021 which has been another busy year for our small team, as we celebrated No Man’s Sky’s 5th anniversary with 4 major updates! This now takes us to 17 large releases, as well as countless smaller updates, community requests, and hotfixes - a huge amount of work for such a small team. We are very proud to have been on this adventure with you, and humbled that we are able to continue taking No Man’s Sky to new and exciting places.

The 5th anniversary year started in February with the Companions update. We were delighted to see all the screenshots of players exploring the universe side-by-side with their newly adopted alien creatures. We loved the reaction of the community as people began breeding creatures and sharing their eggs, and the weird and wonderful (and colossal) creatures that players brought into existence genetically modifying their eggs never failing to surprise

Expeditions in April introduced a brand new way to play No Man’s Sky. We have always loved the magic of starting afresh - vulnerable, trapped on a planet, a whole universe of possibilities ahead of you. Expeditions brought new ways to experience that feeling, as well as bringing the community together and allowing everyone to feel what it's like to be in a hub world. We are very excited for the future of expeditions and all the different possibilities they contain!

In May we released Prisms, and dramatically refreshed the No Man’s Sky experience with a range of new visual features. We have always wanted everyone to have a real sense of wonder whenever they set foot on a new world or stare up at the stars, and we were so pleased with the way Prisms made the journey across the universe feel exciting and new, even to veteran players. No Man’s Sky has never looked better, with reflections, new texture effects, more planetary details, improved lighting, new skies, new warp effects, creature fur, and much more besides.

September saw the release of Frontiers, which not only overhauled the visuals and mechanics of base building, but also allowed for players to become Overseer of their very own procedurally generated alien settlement. We wanted to make it easier for newcomers to build beautiful bases, as well as open up new possibilities for the experienced building community, and we have been dazzled by the outpouring of creativity that we have seen from you all.

Looking back on all that, it’s an amazing achievement and testament to the hard work of a small group of people. Already work has started on some exciting plans for 2022 and there are no signs of us slowing.

Over the Holiday period the No Man’s Sky merch will be on sale periodically here with a 15% discount. An extra 15% will be applied if you use the code “ATLAS” at checkout.

Black Friday (25th-29th November)
Boxing Day (26th December)
New Year’s Day (1st January)

Thank you all for your support, newcomers and veterans alike. We have one of the best communities in all of gaming and that is never taken for granted.

Our journey continues.

Hello Everyone!

As the end of October approaches, we are thrilled to announce a new seasonal event for No Man’s Sky.

Expedition Four: Emergence begins today, and will run over the course of Halloween! This is our first Expedition to feature a narrative, and is also a mini-update, bringing with it a host of enhancements for across the game.

New Expedition

Across the universe, planets have been blighted by the activity of Titan Worms. These colossal sandworms plough through the desert sands, blacking out the sun as they arc overhead, and defiling the very terrain with their cursed dust.

In Expedition Four: Emergence, travellers will find themselves stranded on planet Wasan, a barren world ravaged by dust storms and infested with Titan Worms. It is up to you to locate the Titan Worm impact sites, destroy the wretched Hungering Tendrils, and collect the Vile Spawn that lingers behind. The vessels of the many mouths must be purged!

As travellers cleanse planets of cursed dust and hunt the titanic sandworms, they will unravel the threads of a dark narrative. Complete the expedition route to reveal the history of a dark cult, and ultimately confront the Atlas with evidence of this indelible stain upon the universe.

The beast awakens in Expedition Four: Emergence, our first Expedition with a narrative throughout. There are also a bunch of improvements and new content to be enjoyed across the game.

More Varied Sandworms

The titanic worms throughout the universe have been enhanced with a variety of new biologies and types. These colossal beasts can now be found with a broader selection of more horrifying variants.

Richer Particle Effects

A number of particle effects have been improved. Meteors, muzzle flashes, explosions, burrowing fauna dust, billowing smoke and laser impacts have all been revamped and can be seen throughout the game.

Thematic Rewards

Completing the phases of the Emergence expedition yields a number of exclusive rewards. Once earned, these rewards may be redeemed across all your No Man’s Sky save games.

Feasting Casque

After discovering the secrets of an ancient Vy’keen cult, explorers can also echo their appearance with this unique, many-toothed grotesque alien head.

Rideable Sandworms

Players can now tame and grow a tremendous sandworm companion to feed, pet, ride and explore the universe with. These are both terrifying and awesome creatures when fully grown, and incredible to fly.

Ghastly Trail

The Ghastly Trail customisation applies a unique organic effect to the Jetpack's exhaust nozzles, ejecting gooey fluids and tiny worms during flight.

Titanic Trophy

This eerie skull, once belonging to a large legless cousin of the titan sandworm, adds a touch of macabre decor to bases.

Flesh Launcher

Add an organic element to pyrotechnic displays with the Flesh Launcher firework. These unusual fireworks explode in a splatter of slime, plasma and wormlets.

Official Merchandise

Some new items are now available in the Official Hello Games Merch Store - designed by members of our small team, like all our official merch. Identify yourself to fellow travellers with this new pin:

Or keep warm through the winter months with this new beanie hat:

The Quicksilver Synthesis Companion, inspired by some of the recent expeditions undertaken by the community, has now turned their processes to synthesising some patch-themed decals. Research has now begun on the Landed Ship, Red Strider and Blue Stargaze decals.

Development Update

The team had a lot of fun putting together the Emergence expedition - we hope you enjoy the journey as much as we did! Update 3.70 is releasing today for all platforms, and the full patch notes, along with a spotlight of some of our favourite community contributions are available here.

Thank you so much for playing.

Sean

No Man's Sky - timdog99
Hello,

Whilst the No Man's Sky team is busily working on some upcoming surprises, we do have some exciting news from Hello Games.

We are delighted to let you know The Last Campfire releases on Steam today.

There's a demo you can play if you want to try it out, or please wishlist if you want to play in future.

The Last Campfire been a huge undertaking for a tiny team at Hello, and releasing on Steam marks a major milestone for the team.

Fresh from porting Joe Danger to mobile (nearly 6 years ago!) a designer, Stevie, started a passion project which became The Last Campfire. Later he was joined by Chris who made every bit of art you see in Campfire. Then finally the team completed when James joined as programmer to help bring the whole thing together. Everything in the game is the work of these three guys over, in some cases, a large number of years. A special mention should be given to producer Jen who kept everyone on track as release dates were looming.

Like many teams, we went from seeing each other every moment of the day, to being completely remote whilst finishing this game together. As the team and the world entered lockdown, the themes of the game seemed increasingly poignant. The personal experiences from the team which originally inspired Campfire suddenly felt a little more universal.

Like No Man's Sky and Joe Danger before it, Campfire is a game so close to our hearts. We were overjoyed and humbled when it picked up a slew of accolades, high review scores and award nominations.

You can buy The Last Campfire at a discount for a limited time today.

Hello!

We know that many of you follow us here exclusively for No Man's Sky, and we have been so pleased to see the reaction to Frontiers and the Cartographers Expedition in the last couple of weeks, but I hope you don't mind us sharing a little news about another game of ours.

We're pleased to announce that The Last Campfire will be showcased at the Steam Next Fest starting today, October 1st!

During the event, get hands-on with an exclusive free demo, where you can explore the whole first chapter of the story, explore the mysterious forest, save forlorn embers and discover secrets. We'll be hosting a number of broadcasts and developer commentary on the store page as well. If you enjoy the demo be sure to wishlist.

After you have played the demo it is not long to wait until The Last Campfire releases for real on Steam next Thursday (7th October) and there is a limited time discount if you pre-order now!

Worth noting that all progress from the demo will carry over into the full game.

This is a game about loss, hope and empathy. You play as Ember, a lost soul in a charming but dark world. On your path you find others like you, some of whom have lost their way and turned forlorn. It’s up to you as a player to choose who to help.

It is an emotional game and we are thrilled and humbled at the chord that Campfire has already struck, racking up some incredible accolades, review scores and award nominations including Best British Game at the BAFTA Game Awards 2021 and Best Indie Game at SXSW.

We all really hope you enjoy The Last Campfire on Steam when it launches next week. It’s a game we care a great deal for, and one that’s had a whole lot of love poured into by the tiny team who made it.

Give the free demo a try, wishlist or pre-order at a discount from today.

Thanks so much,

Sean
