No Man's Sky - timdog99
Hello Everyone!

Hopefully this is a bit of a nice festive surprise for folks. We have released a neat update today, adding a full audio creation application to No Man’s Sky. We’re calling it the ByteBeat Device!

We’ve made a brief trailer to demonstrate the potential of the feature, but as always, we’re sure that you the community will take it and run with it in all sorts of unexpected directions.

Credit to community creators DjMonkey, G_Man_D, Nukie000, Whimblo and ActionPantsGaming for the bases featured in this trailer.

Base building is a big part of what people spend their time doing in our game, and a frequent request is for the ability to add sounds and music to their construction. Our team always likes a creative challenge, and audio is one of our big passions. Over the last few weeks one of our coders got obsessed with making an audio creation tool for the community, we were so excited about it we thought it’d be a nice surprise to release it.

We love playing around with music toys like Teenage Engineering Synths or FruityLoops, and we like the idea of creating something that can encourage anyone to make cool audio.

Once placed in your base and powered, the ByteBeat will immediately begin to produce sound. ByteBeat formulas are made out of simple waveforms that are manipulated through maths – but by default, the device handles all of the mathematical heavy lifting, procedurally generating random presets for you to play with. Dedicated audiophiles have the option to explore deeper, manually sketching out note sequences, rhythms, and even manipulating the raw sounds.

Audio enthusiasts interested in reading more about the original concept of ByteBeat music may find this article a good starting point.

The ByteBeat Device
Learn the module blueprints from the Space Anomaly, then construct and power your ByteBeat Device within your base. It will immediately begin to play a unique pattern of procedurally-generated music.

The Sequencer UI lets you customise your track, allowing you to modify the melody and drums. If enabled, the arpeggiator will fill in notes automatically, and other panels allow you to adjust the octave, key and tempo.

Players who want to dive deep into the maths behind the waveform can use the Advanced Waveform UI to fine tune the mathematical operators at the heart of their sound. Or simply randomise the function and generate an entirely new sound!

The ByteBeat Device can be synchronised by snapping it to other ByteBeats, or connecting the devices with a new type of cable. This allows you to layer multiple tracks and create more complex arrangements.

Finally, a new ByteBeat Switch allows players to power other devices, such as lights, with bursts of power that sync up to the rhythm of your track.

Of course, as a base part, all your creations are fully shareable – we look forward to hearing what you come up with!

Featured Bases
A new set of community bases has been selected for the Featured section of the Space Anomaly teleporter. Directly experiencing the community’s creativity up-close like this has been a fascinating and strangely intimate experience for the team. We hope you enjoy the set we’ve highlighted, and we intend to keep rotating the selection on a regular basis.

(Choll-Nuthe Outpost by Junglist_)

If you share your base online and would like to see it featured at the Anomaly, please remember to include your portal coordinates, current galaxy, username and platform when you post it.

Community Research
It was tremendous to see the surge in community research progress following the release of Synthesis! The Helios, Hyperion, and Eos visages are now available for purchase at the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion, and progress has begun to unlock the visage of Iteration: Tethys.

Progress may be tracked from your Mission Log in No Man’s Sky, or from the Galactic Atlas.

Weekend Missions
Mysterious planetary disturbances continue to destabilise the universe. Nada and Polo are monitoring the situation, but request as many travellers as possible investigate these incidents directly.

The Anomaly’s spacetime loom detects a new disturbance forming within an ancient Korvax monolith, on a haunted green planet with rich ocean resources. This weekend, Travellers may sign up at the Nexus to participate in the event, and earn generous Quicksilver rewards.

Development Update
Update 2.24 is live on all platforms now. As well as the ByteBeat device, it includes a number of fixes and improvements. The full list of patch notes is below.

Thank you so much for your continued support of No Man’s Sky this year. It has been one of our biggest yet in all sorts of ways. We hope you all have a great holiday and we look forward to sharing more in the New Year.

Our journey continues.

Thank you so much,
Sean

2.24 Patch Notes
Added a new base prop, the ByteBeat Device. ByteBeat allows players to generate and compose their own procedural music. Switches and cabling have been added to allow this music to control other base features.
  • To prevent accidental selling, the Galactic Trade Terminal in the Space Station now defaults to buying, rather than selling.
  • The ability to edit terrain in a multiplayer game is now its own permission setting, alongside the permission to edit a base.
  • Restored the ‘Friends Only’ multiplayer permission setting, distinct from people in your group but not in your friends list.
  • Fixed an issue where freighters bought before the Synthesis Update would be limited to 4 tech slots.
  • Fixed a hang that could occur when comparing freighters.
  • Fixed an issue where upgraded starships always rolled the worst possible stat ranges for their class. The chosen stat is now based on the unique seed for that ship.
  • The upper bounds for some starship stats has been increased on haulers, fighters and exploration starships, so that exotic ships are no longer guaranteed to the best at each specialisation.
  • Added the ability to see a starships’ stats through the Analysis Visor, including the difference between ‘core’ and ‘upgraded’ stats.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the displayed shield strength stat of a starship to be incorrect.
  • Fixed an issue that added one shell to the Position Ejector’s clip size when adding reload speed upgrades.
  • Fixed an issue with GTAO that caused many planets to appear slightly too dark.
  • Added a new ‘Ultra’ setting for GTAO on PC.

  • Plants placed in a base now get slightly bigger as they grow.
  • Interactive objects that have been used are now hidden on the compass and in the Analysis Visor.
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent players from using their secondary weapon if they only have one secondary weapon installed.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to equip weapons in a number of circumstances where weapons are not allowed.
  • Made a number of fixes to Nexus missions, including: reducing message spam during pirate-hunting missions; preventing missions from marking depots that have previously been destroyed; and preventing base-building missions from selecting planets with extreme Sentinels.
  • Added a multiplayer message when collecting mission-critical objects.
  • Vortex Cubes and Submerged Relics are no longer destroyed by the Terrain Manipulator.
  • Fixed an issue with the Exocraft camera that made it difficult to aim weapons.
  • Fixed an issue that caused newly installed Exocraft weapons to be unavailable until cycling weapons.

  • Unavailable options in the build menu are now greyed out rather than removed.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented players from deleting base parts while a wire is being placed.
  • Fixed a number of animation issues with the solar panel.
  • Improved the icon for the Teleport Cable.
  • Fixed an incorrect icon in a mission from the Abyss update.
  • Fixed an issue that caused some hostile plants to have incorrect HUD labels.
  • Fixed a number of issues with warning arrows and health bars in non-HD resolutions.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause players not to receive the correct rewards from Apollo’s contact.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the planetary hazard reading to be in degrees when on an anomalous world.
  • The amount of rust and other junk substances found in damaged planetary machine has been reduced.

  • Fixed a rare crash in the Build Menu.
  • Fixed a rare crash in the planet generation system.
  • Fixed a PC-only crashed related to getting player names for base parts.
  • On PS4, fixed a crash when redeeming pre-order bonus content (this fix was already live on other platforms).
  • On PS4, fixed an issue where falling off a frigate could lead to players continuing to fall after respawning (this fix was already live on other platforms).
  • Made a number of minor optimisations to the texture caching system.
  • Fixed a minor visual issue with water reflections in PSVR.

No Man's Sky - timdog99

Phew, what a year! If you like what we've done this year with the Beyond and Synthesis updates, maybe consider taking a moment to nominate No Man's Sky in the "Labor of Love" category. It would mean a lot to us.
No Man's Sky - timdog99
Hello!

Today we are pleased to release our eighth free update to No Man's Sky.

The Synthesis Update introduces a number of frequently-requested features and improvements to No Man’s Sky Beyond. Alongside these new features are a large number of community-led quality of life improvements, as well as general polish.

Full Patch Notes can be found here but here are some highlights.

Starship Upgrades
Visit the Starship Outfitting Terminal at a Space Station to add inventory slots to your favourite starship, or spend nanites to upgrade its class.

Starship Salvaging
The Starship Outfitting Terminal can also be used to salvage unwanted ships for scrap, granting valuable products and technologies.

New Terrain Editing System
The Terrain Manipulator has been improved and optimised, with new visual effects and new Restore and Flatten Modes.

Protected Terrain Edits
Terrain edits made within a base are now protected from regeneration. The protected edit system has been improved to allow more edits to be made before reaching the cap.

Save Custom Outfits
Added the ability to save a range of custom outfits in the Customiser, allowing for quick changes between a range of appearances.

First Person Exocraft
Players of all versions of the game now have access to First-Person Exocraft. Access camera settings in the Quick Menu.

New Features Enabled in VR
Features have been unified across VR and non-VR. Photo Mode and Creature Riding are now available in all versions of the game.

Space Map
The starship Space Map has been overhauled, improving the quality and clarity of the visuals.

Inventory Management
Inventory management has been refined and a number of UI quality of life improvements have been added. Items can be dragged and dropped to swap positions, or directly dropped onto damaged technologies for automatic repair. Control over stack sizes has been improved in the shop, transfer and charging interfaces. Hazard protection upgrades that are not relevant to the current environment are now hidden from the Quick Menu.

Quality of Life Improvements
Many frequently used interactions and interfaces have been sped up, and access to many features has been streamlined. Improvements include: instant access to the Galactic Trade Terminal; purchasing Planetary Charts from the shop interface rather than a dialog interaction; increasing the speed of the Pulse Drive; and the riding of creatures that have been fed only basic bait.

New Technologies
Many new technology upgrades have been added, granting abilities such as: long distance inventory transfers to and from freighters; mid-air jetpack recharging; and instantaneous emergency warping.

New Base Parts
A new range of triangular base building parts have been added, opening up a large range of new structures for builders.

Discovery Page Additions
The Discovery Page has been polished and improved, addressing a number of key bugs and usability issues. These include bulk uploading of discoveries; faster access to planetary data; and a better sense of position both on a planet and within the system.

Bug Fixing and Polish
A significant number of frequently reported issues have been addressed, as we continually monitor the community’s most requested fixes. The full patch notes for the Synthesis Update run to 297 items.

Base Building Improvements
Base building benefits from a large number of improvements, including visual and functional improvements to the snapping system. Existing parts have been optimised and building costs have been reduced.

More Storage
The capacity of the Storage Containers has been significantly increased. The containers can now be given custom names.

Personal Refiner
Added a new technology, the Personal Refiner. This equipment allows users to refine elements directly within the Exosuit, without having to place a portable refiner on a planetary surface.

Own Multiple Multi-Tools
Added the ability for players to own more than one Multi-Tool. Purchased Multi-Tools will be added to the Quick Menu for easy swapping.

And there are literally hundreds (297 in all!) of other bug fixes / small features / bits of polish that lift and bind the game together.

Thank you so much for joining us on this voyage. It means a lot to the team.

The journey continues.

No Man's Sky - Hello Games
Hello Everyone!
There’s been a lot going on since our last development update. The team has been working hard to bring you bug fixes and quality of life improvements, with a huge number of things fixed in the three updates since our last blog post.

You’ve all been hard at work too: producing amazing artwork; building spectacular bases; and unlocking the first community goal of Beyond, a brand new Vy’keen-inspired suit of armour. Even now, you’re making great progress on the second event to unlock the likenesses of Travellers Gemini, Mercury and Ares.

Patch 2.15 releases today on all platforms. It introduces a number of new features to bring the community together and highlight the amazing work you do: a showcase for the best community bases, and brand new weekly missions.

Weekend Missions
Very shortly, the Space Anomaly’s first weekend mission will go live. Nada’s spacetime loom has detected a concerning pattern resonating across the universe, and they need help from their explorer friends to investigate. Readings indicate a disturbance in reality, where an anomalous – and possibly sinister – force has begun to leak through to this universe…

These weekend missions, which bring explorers together on a specific planet, will tell a story that will unfold over the coming months. They also offer significant quicksilver rewards…

Travellers who wish to participate will find a new chapter available at the Nexus each week, from Friday evenings (GMT) until early Monday morning.

If you miss a weekend, don’t worry. These missions will continue to run for the foreseeable future. We are so excited to see what happens when you all start exploring a single planet together!

Featured Bases
One of the things we like seeing most is the ingenious bases that you folks build. We watch the community closely and it’s always a joy – and a surprise! – to see the things you use the game to create. We wanted to find a way to highlight this brilliant work and bring it to the greatest number of players.

From now on you will be able to visit the Space Anomaly Teleporter to see a selection of the best bases we’ve come across. We hope it will showcase all you talented builders, and bring every player an ever-changing cycle of spectacular planets and architectural creativity.

We remain on the lookout for ever-more imaginative bases which we can feature in future. If you’d like your base to be featured, please include your portal coordinates, current galaxy, username and platform when you post it. This will help us find it quickly and bring it to wider attention. We can’t wait to see what you make!

Development Update
Beyond brought a lot of new players into the game, as well as drawing back in a large number of old friends. We’ve been seeing some of our highest player numbers since launch, and with a wide variety of playstyles: VR and non-VR, lone travellers and multiplayer mini-factions, base-builders and explorers.

The wishlist of improvements and features continues to grow ever longer as our community grows. Your feedback – and your love for the game – are a vitally important part of the No Man’s Sky journey.

While today’s update shows off a pair of new features, other members of the team have been hard at work on an update that will address a whole heap of community requests. We hope to be able to release this fairly soon. We take your suggestions and priorities very seriously when working out what to work on, so if there are things you want to add to ever-evolving list then please let us know through the usual channels.

Patch 2.15 is live on all platforms today, with the notes available below. There is much more coming very soon.

Thank you so much for playing. It really means a lot to us.

Sean

2.15 Patch Notes
  • Added Featured Bases to the teleporter on the Space Anomaly.
  • The list of featured bases will change periodically to highlight the best the base building community has to offer.
  • The Featured Bases lists allows anyone aboard the Space Anomaly to easily visit and be inspired by other base creators.
  • Bases featured in the list are protected to keep them as their architect intended.

  • Added a new series of story-based mission to the Nexus.
  • These missions are available each weekend and will advance over the course of the coming months.

  • Fixed an issue that caused long load times and poor performance around bases with complex power and wiring setups.
  • Fixed an issue that caused tagged markers not to clear when their object was used.
  • Fixed an issue that caused glitches in water rendering when entering the atmosphere.
  • Fixed an issue where players could get stuck when performing a gesture while seated.
  • Fixed an issue where NPC ship pilots would get out of their ship and become stuck within its landing gear.
  • Fixed a number of issues that prevented switches being used when visiting other bases.
  • Fixed an issue where background missions can update and disrupt a Nexus mission.
  • Fixed an issue where Ares had the wrong head.
  • Fixed a crash in network replication.
  • Fixed a number of rendering crashes.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when viewing discoveries.

No Man's Sky - Hello Games
Hello Everyone!
It has been a few weeks since our last development update, and we wanted to share a little more news from the studio. You can read the full post here.

The team here are still working intensely to address high-priority issues, as well as to improve the overall polish and quality of life of the game. Update 2.12 has been released today, with the long list of fixes and improvements available at the end of this post. However, we also have a larger feature to announce…

Community Research
Today, we will be launching a community event, with new content available to earn from the Space Anomaly. Each mission completed at the Nexus will contribute to a cross-reality target for all Travellers. Universal progress will unlock a series of exotic items synthesised by Polo’s robotic companion, available to purchase with Quicksilver.

As with every update, all this new content is completely free for all existing players – there are no microtransactions in No Man’s Sky.

The event commences today, and has no set deadline for completion. Progress may be tracked from the Galactic Atlas website, or from the Quicksilver Robot itself.

Nexus Mission Rewards
Quicksilver Reward Missions

Once each day, a mission rewarding Quicksilver will become available at the Nexus. These Quicksilver missions can queue up, to a maximum stack of 3 (so you won’t miss out even if you don’t have the opportunity to play every day).

Encrypted Missions

These rare, high-priority missions offer especially interesting and lucrative rewards. Mysterious in nature, their requirements are secret until the moment the mission commences.

From the Quicksilver Synthesis Bot
Specialist Polo’s robotic companion is busy developing a set of 5 new customisation items, which together form a complete armoured suit. This practical fashion choice is favoured by the Vy’keen, but is wearable by explorers of any race.

Each customisation item will become available for synthesis as all Traveller iterations complete missions at the Nexus.

Tier 1 – Armoured Boots

Reinforced foot protection system with integrated tread-balancing gyroscopes. Hundreds of years of high-tech research, as applied to footwear.

Tier 2 – Armoured ExoGloves

Armoured gloves, perfect for wielding weapons, impressing martial cultures, and picking really spiky plants.

Tier 3 – Armoured Leggings

Carefully woven nano-fibres make these leggings both flexible and resistant to small-arms fire. Washing requires specialist equipment.

Tier 4 – Armoured Chestpiece

Reinforced yet stylish, this Exosuit chest armour provides excellent abdominal protection without compromising on looks.

Tier 5 – Armoured Shoulderpads

Powerful shoulder armour, this Exosuit augmentation comes with high-voltage connections into the user’s skeletal system. This current jolts the user’s body as required, manipulating the muscles into their optimal defensive posture.

Development Update
Patch 2.12 is live today, with the notes available below. There is much more coming very soon. Thank you, so much, for playing.

Sean

No Man's Sky - Adils @ Valve
Hello Everyone,

Welcome to BEYOND!

Well, where do we start?

After the NEXT update in July 2018, we started work on a series of smaller, more focused updates. You saw the first of these with our Exocraft rework, with Abyss and with Visions. We’re very proud of these updates, but we realised that by focusing on one area at a time we were missing out on the chance to making something bigger. And so here we are, nearly a year later, with the results.

The early work on virtual reality got us really excited and convinced us that we couldn’t just tick the box. The chance to truly experience an alien world, to be totally lost in these strange lands – it was an utterly perfect fit for the dream at the heart of our game. The chance was there to do something very special which could set a new benchmark for VR.

Meanwhile, the multiplayer team had conceived of a whole new social hub – The Nexus – which enables you to meet up with friends (VR and non-VR alike), explore together, build bases together, complete missions together and much much more. Every time we played together we could feel how much it brought to the experience. And so this too began to grow in ambition and scope…

At the same time a longer list of features and updates, large and small, was growing. Rolling them all together helped us to see the bigger picture, to listen to how people played the game, to not only add more but to remould the game in a hundred tiny ways. These, of course, began to fit together with an expanded multiplayer experience, and began to lift the VR experience to another level.

With 2.0, we saw a way to fill in some of the details and pull all the different strands of No Man’s Sky together into a cohesive whole. We think it makes this the perfect time to play No Man’s Sky, as a new player or a seasoned explorer.

Here is just a brief summary of what you can find in BEYOND:

- Virtual Reality support
- VR user Interface
- VR user interactions
- VR controller support
- 16-32 multiplayer
- Multiplayer missions
- Ambient multiplayer
- A new social hub
- New traveller NPCs
- Dynamic NPCs
- Alien Languages
- New alien encounters
- Technology trees
- Gameplay Balance
- Discovery Page overhaul
- Planetary Charts
- Creature taming/riding/milking
- Multiplayer missions
- Cooking & Recipes
- Cooler Aliens
- Improved base building
- Power & Logic & Industrial Bases
- Optimisation
- Starship enhancements
- First person exocraft driving
- Vulkan
- PC graphics options
- Expanded controller support
- Sitting
- Version 2.0

Our journey continues!

No Man's Sky - Hello Games
Hello!

Thank you for your patience. Our biggest update yet launches in a little under a week on August 14th and we couldn’t be more excited to share this trailer with you, showing off the massively expanded online component of Beyond for the first time.

BEYOND is the culmination of 12 months of work on what was originally going to be 3 large separate updates.

The more we got into development however, the more those individual pieces started to coalesce and become interdependent on each other.

Virtual Reality is cool and a major undertaking for a procedurally generated universe, but virtual reality becomes all the more enjoyable and immersive when you’re playing with friends, be they VR players or not.

Bringing the social multiplayer enhancements we wanted to make together with VR seemed not only desirable and natural but unstoppable.

Remember that everything you see in our launch trailer can be experienced in VR if you have a headset.

We'll be telling you a little more about some other elements of Beyond very soon.

BEYOND is not only our biggest update to date, but it also feels like our most important. It feels like all the different strands of the game have come together and unified the experience more than any other update before it.

The community has helped us get to this point in so many ways. Your feedback, encouragement and support fuels us and makes us strive for more and better every day.

It is never easy when the standards you set for us and we set ourselves are so ambitious, but the highs certainly outweigh the lows and it is a privilege to be on this rollercoaster with you.

This is another step on our journey and our journey continues.

Much love,
Sean
No Man's Sky - Hello Games
Hello Everyone,

We know that there is a lot of hunger out there for news and updates on No Man’s Sky. We’re very excited to be able to share more information from behind the scenes.

Our next chapter No Man’s Sky: Beyond, is coming on August 14th!

Beyond will contain three major updates rolled into one larger free release. These changes are a mix of features we’ve been dreaming of for a while, and a reaction to how we have seen folks playing since the release of NEXT.

An expanded Online experience will bring a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together.

Meanwhile VR support will bring the entire game experience to life in virtual reality. Grab the joystick and thruster to fly your starship over an unexplored alien planet as you peer out of the cockpit at the view below. Reach into your backpack to grab your multitool, touch it to switch to terrain manipulation, and carve out intricate shapes with unprecedented control. Play in multiplayer and casually wave to your non-VR friends or fist bump your VR peers. Anything possible in No Man’s Sky, NEXT or any other update will soon be ready and waiting as an immersive and enriched VR experience.

If you want to know a little more about what to expect on August 14th, you can read a small preview from when we let press play for the first time.

GamesRadar - "No Man's Sky is the virtual reality game I have waited my entire life to play"
"Murray hesitantly promoting the latest update to No Man's Sky and us doing our best not to lose our cool. That, I'm afraid to say, is far easier said than done; No Man's Sky is absolutely phenomenal when experienced in virtual reality. I'm sorry, Sean – this is where I cordially invite everybody to join me aboard the hype train, and there is no turning back this time."

IGN - "No Man's Sky feels like a totally different game in VR"
"I can’t really describe how it felt. Teetering just above the planet's surface, it didn’t feel like No Man’s Sky anymore. It felt lonely, exciting, and honestly a little scary. That’s No Man’s Sky VR in a nutshell. Taking something you once knew and experiencing it in a completely different light."

PCGamesN - "No Man’s Sky VR brings personal scale to an endless galaxy"
"Where many other VR games (with rare, excellent exceptions) have felt limited, the grandness inherent to No Man’s Sky rips those limitations apart"

PCGamer - "No Man's Sky and VR are the perfect match"
"I spent fifteen minutes with No Man's Sky VR, and it wasn't nearly enough. Whatever voodoo is required to make a game feel just right in VR, Hello Games seems to have nailed it."

The Verge - "No Man’s Sky in VR feels like a whole new game"
"I’ve played well over a hundred hours of No Man’s Sky since the game first debuted in 2016. I’ve touched down on countless planets, swam beneath alien oceans, and ran from a hostile robotic police force. But nothing I’ve done up until now has felt as thrilling as jumping into the cockpit of a ship, pulling down the glass enclosure with my hands, and pushing the throttle to blast off into the sky."

Eurogamer - "No Man's Sky is absolutely stellar in VR"
"It's amazing, of course. There are few games better suited to the full immersion of virtual reality, and I'm delighted to say that, from my short experience: there's that thrilling sense of being there, feet planted on some alien planet, scanning the horizons and getting drunk on the endless possibilities out there."

Polygon - "No Man’s Sky in VR is a blast"
"This is VR at its most compelling, putting me in fantastical places and giving me viewpoints that I can never expect to attain in real life."

Engadget - "No Man's Sky VR is the purest way to explore the universe"
"if the goal of No Man's Sky is to make players feel, full-stop -- then VR is the best way to play. This sense of scale and immersion simply can't translate on a 2D screen."

UploadVR - "No Man’s Sky VR Is A World Of Limitless Possibilities"
"No Man’s Sky in VR is, without question, poised to immediately become the largest and most expansive VR game to date once the Beyond update releases.”

Beyond will be our most ambitious chapter so far, and something we’ve been working ridiculously hard on. We’ll continue to support No Man’s Sky in this way for the foreseeable future.

We look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks, there’s a bunch more to talk about and can't wait to join you in playing August 14th.

Thank you so much,
Sean
No Man's Sky - Hello Games
Hello Everyone,

We’re very excited to be able to tell you more about No Man’s Sky: Beyond. A major free update coming in summer 2019 and the next big chapter in our journey.

Beyond is the culmination of several different strands of development. The first component, No Man’s Sky Online, was announced a few weeks ago. A dramatically updated multiplayer experience means players will be able to explore and play together like never before.

Today we’re thrilled to announce the next major component of Beyond: No Man’s Sky Virtual Reality.

As creators of No Man’s Sky, we are in love with everything sci-fi. Virtual reality feels like a science fiction become real, and has always seemed like a perfect fit for this futuristic game of ours.

It’s completely unique to land on a world that no-one has ever seen before and to really feel as if you’re there, and the team has worked so hard to make this a true VR experience rather than a port.

No Man’s Sky Virtual Reality is not a separate mode, but the entire game brought to life in virtual reality. Anything possible in No Man’s Sky, NEXT or any other update is ready and waiting as an immersive and enriched VR experience.

No Man’s Sky Virtual Reality, like all the parts of Beyond, will be free to existing players. No Man’s Sky Virtual Reality will bring the experience to PlayStation VR and Steam VR, and will be released simultaneously on both platforms.

By bringing full VR support, for free, to the millions of players already playing the game, No Man’s Sky will become perhaps the most owned VR title when released. This amazes us, and is utterly humbling. The team is working so hard to live up to the expectations that creates. We are excited for that moment when millions of players will suddenly update and be able to set foot on their home planets and explore the intricate bases they have built in virtual reality for the first time.

As well as Online and Virtual Reality, No Man’s Sky Beyond contains a third major feature set that we’ll be talking more about when we can.

This is an exciting time. Thank you so much for being with us on this most ambitious chapter of No Man’s Sky.

Hello Everyone,

We know that there is a lot of hunger out there for news and updates on No Man’s Sky. We wanted to share some information from behind the scenes.

Our next chapter will be called No Man’s Sky: Beyond, coming Summer 2019.

Each chapter for No Man’s Sky has been more successful than the last. Thanks to our community, NEXT our large release last year was especially so. It went on to bring enjoyment to millions of new players, and it helped to change the legacy of this game we care so much about.

Earlier this year, whilst working on our roadmap of three future updates, we decided we wanted to interweave their features, and had a vision for something much more impactful.

We are excited to announce that Beyond will contain those three major updates rolled into one larger free release.

The first component of Beyond we are announcing today is No Man’s Sky Online.

No Man’s Sky Online includes a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together. Whilst this brings people together like never before, and has many recognisable online elements, we don’t consider No Man’s Sky to be an MMO – it won’t require a subscription, won’t contain microtransactions, and will be free for all existing players.

These changes are an answer to how we have seen people playing since the release of NEXT, and is something we’ve dreamed of for a long time.

We will talk more about each component when we know we can be precise, and look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks.

Beyond will be our most ambitious chapter so far, and something we’ve been working ridiculously hard on. We’ll continue to support No Man’s Sky in this way for the foreseeable future.

It’s unexpected but so rewarding to see so many accolades and nominations for No Man’s Sky as Best On-going or Most Evolved this year. To some NEXT may have felt like a natural end-point for our journey, but for us it was another step on a longer voyage.

Thank you so much,
Sean
