The Diamond Casino & Resort opened in GTA Online today, bringing new cooperative story missions and new ways to gamble away your ill-gotten gains. It’s a social space along similar lines to the nightclubs, only dealing cards rather than pulling shapes. If you live in certain countries, mind, you’ll be blocked from playing the casino games, presumably because of gambling laws. The casino also sells fancy penthouse apartments we can decorate more than other homes, slapping up pictures and slamming down sculptures.

GTA Online's Diamond Casino has opened its doors to the masses and their bank accounts. You can find the flashy building in Vinewood, where you'll be able to play poker, blackjack, and roulette. You can even bet on the horses.

To start gambling, you'll need to exchange cash for chips at cashier services, though you'll also get 5000 right away for getting membership at the casino (this costs $500 of in-game currency). You'll also get free chips each day. The exchange rate is 1 chip for $1 of in-game currency, so I'm not sure why you need chips at all, but those are the rules (edit: you can seemingly only buy 50,000 chips at a time before a cooldown timer occurs).

If you're lucky enough to win big, you can just give it all back to the casino by splashing out in the casino store, where you can buy art and golden guns. Selling firearms in a casino? Very GTA.

If your cash is really burning a hole in your pocket, you can spend it all on The Diamond penthouse. There's an office, a media room, a spa, multiple bedrooms, a private bar—it's very fancy, and you can customise it.

Apparently it will cost you $63,548,081 (cheers, UnknownModder) to buy absolutely everything in the DLC. That's a lot of hours on the slot machines. They're pretty cool slot machines, though. Some of them have moustaches!

Twitch Prime subscribers who connected their Rockstar Social Club accounts before the 19th get $1.5 million off any penthouse, so you can pick up the most basic one for free. You'll need to log in, log out and then log in again to get your Prime bonus. Everyone else will need to make a lot of cash in the casino or do some more crimes.

The casino has actually been around since GTA 5 launched, and it's been 'opening soon' for around six years. Go try your luck now.

For Grand Theft Auto Online diehards, there is nothing more infamous than the Vinewood Casino. A rumoured playable location since players first got their hands on the game in 2013, I remember parking my busted Sultan on Mirror Park Boulevard and seeing the 'Opening Soon' banner for the first time - a beacon of hope back then for an ambitious multiplayer game that hadn't quite found its feet.

Since its inclusion, gumshoed players (myself included) have obsessed over this eerily quiet corner of Los Santos, searching for clues behind the scenes and lobbying Rockstar to put together a grand opening. Alas, much like that decaying lot you see each time you return to your hometown - nothing changed.

That was true until 6th June this year, when something extraordinary happened. During a routine weekly update, the once-legendary banner vanished, a selection of props changed location, and every corner of GTA fandom on the internet erupted in tandem.

GTA Online's Diamond Casino & Resort opens its doors to the world tomorrow, July 23, offering patrons the finest in high-flyin', stylin', and profilin' luxury in a Master Penthouse suite that comes complete with Silver Status VIP Membership. That gets you the exclusive "She's Loaded" artwork to hang in your new abode, and a swanky Diamond Classic t-shirt to hang on yourself. But if you want more—and if you're willing to work for it—then your adventure is only beginning.

Silver Status members who help casino owner Tao Cheng fend off the unwelcome advances of wealthy, corrupt Texans by completing the second co-op mission will be upgraded to Gold Status, which unlocks a new livery for the Truffade Thrax supercar and a matching t-shirt. Do a solid for casino head of operations Agatha Baker (five of them, technically) and you'll be bumped up to Platinum Status, with a Lucky 7s Tattoo and the Kronos Ära Watch—and you'll earn some GTA$ and casino chips in the process.

Diamond Status is reserved for players who go all in: Platinum members who complete all casino-related co-op missions will be given a livery for the Annis S80RR supercar, while those who host all the casino-related missions will get one "for a highly coveted brand-new vehicle." Do both, get both, and be counted among the elite: "Work together to host and participate in the complete mission strand to unlock both," Rockstar said.

Like all good things in life, the rewards program is time-limited. You've got from the casino opening—July 23, remember—until August 7 to wrap it up. Rewards will be delivered between August 8-13. Full details are available from Rockstar.

Here’s a fascinating fact: Steam Charts has never won an award. I KNOW. If there’s nothing else that demonstrates the corruption of the entire system, it’s this. High quality, groundbreaking, Woodwardian journalism, are just some of the terms I use to describe this most esteemed of columns. And yet the silverware shelf gathers dust. It’s a disgrace.

GTA Online's Diamond Casino & Resort is finally going to open its doors next week—July 23, to be specific—with poker, blackjack, roulette, slot machines, ponies, and even penthouse suites. And you link your Rockstar Social Club account to your Twitch Prime account (with some haste), you'll get free access to one of your very own.

The purchase price of penthouse suites hasn't been revealed so we can't say what this offer is actually worth, but given that it may be one of those, "If you have to ask, you can't afford it" kind of deals, my guess is that we're not talking about chump change here. And penthouses aren't just a nice place to hang your hat: Owning one also confers VIP casino membership, which includes a parking garage and valet, champagne service, high-limit gambling tables, and access to an exclusive VIP lounge.

It's also not the only reason to link your account, as you'll also pick up GTA$1.25 million, and receive 15 percent in bonus GTA$ on all Shark Cash Card purchases. A Shark Card worth GTA$1.25 million goes for $20 on Steam, so that alone probably makes it worth the hassle of connecting your accounts.

And it's not really much of a hassle: Log into your Twitch Prime account, log into your Rockstar Social Club account and then click where it tells you. "Certain restrictions and details apply," as it says in the fine print—the full details are available from Twitch.

(Were you wondering where that song in the Diamond Casino & Resort trailer comes from?)

Grand Theft Auto V

Following Rockstar's announcement last month, GTA Online's casino finally opens for business on 23rd July.

The Diamond Casino & Resort will have its grand opening on Tuesday next week, allowing players to gamble against the house using chips in classic casino games such as Three Card Poker, Blackjack and Roulette. There'll also be Slot Machines with various prizes, and an Inside Track lounge to "watch and cheer along with friends as the drama of virtual horse racing unfolds".

In a post on Rockstar's website, the developer mentions the "massive construction project on the corner of Vinewood Park Drive and Mirror Park Boulevard" players have seen being built in game is "nearing completion".

It has always amazed me that Grand Theft Auto Online (and its parent game, Grand Theft Auto 5) hasn’t had a casino until now, what with it being all about a life of vice and high-stakes action. Next week on Tuesday the 23rd, Rockstar are fixing that, and opening the doors to the Diamond Casino & Resort. As with other GTA Online expansions, players will have to buy in with in-game money to access its new story missions and high-stakes tables. For everyone else, there’ll be a bundle of new minigames to play, including poker, blackjack, roulette and betting on horse races. Below, the update trailer.

Grand Theft Auto V

For weeks (years, actually), GTA 5 players have been wondering when Los Santos' long-dormant Vinewood casino was going to open. Now we know—it's coming next week, as Rockstar has formally revealed its Diamond Casino & Resort is going to open its doors on July 23 as part of GTA Online. You can check out the first trailer for the casino update above. That sure looks like Brucie Kibbutz from GTA 4 making an appearance in the teaser, huh?

Using Chips, which sound like they're the in-game casino currency rather than GTA money, you can play Three Card Poker, Blackjack, Roulette and Slot Machines. There's also virtual horse racing, and a penthouse. The casino even has an official website, which mentions two tiers of membership: standard and VIP, the latter of which unlocks when you purchase a penthouse there.

There's also an element called the Lucky Wheel, which sounds like it gives out random prizes. "Spin the Lucky Wheel in the lobby for chips, cash, and clothing or even the new Truffade Thrax supercar that can be found whirling on the podium during opening week," is how Rockstar describes it. "And be sure to check back each week to see what new high-end vehicle can be won."

Penthouses seem to be at the heart of the content update. They automatically confer VIP membership status upon the owner, and sound like high-end new properties, with spa rooms, spare bedrooms and even private bars touted as part of the offering. A new casino store will let you decorate the place with art, from "portraiture to pop art and daring modern sculpture". I'm curious about how much it'll cost to get started (update: linking your Social Club account to your Twitch Prime account before the end of the 19th gets you the Master Penthouse for free).

The Penthouse grants a new set of co-op missions, where you'll work with casino owner Tao Cheng to keep the place safe from rich, threatening Texans. Completing all the missions here will unlock a new vehicle for free, although Rockstar doesn't say what it is.

The opening had been teased with building works around the exterior since early June, and the resort was formally revealed and named later on that month. It's the first major update to the game since Arena War in late December. This brings almost six years of speculation about the casino to an end.

It’s another dire old week in Chartland, with the last breaths of the Summer Sale ensuring, with the exception of spots #4 and #5, that all the usual suspects dominate. But we won’t let that change us! We’re better than this! We’re going to have fun anyway!
