After months of drifting through the rocky terrain of Forbidden Temple (Fire & Ice), we have a feeling your wheels might be in serious need of replacement. Before you head to the tire shop, we have some great news—Season 9 Competitive Rewards will be Wheels!
With a simplified silhouette and subtle rank etching along the sidewall, these new treads should last for many a powerslide.
Season Rewards
Here's a reminder of how Competitive Rewards work: make sure you complete your ten placement matches to be placed in a Rank, and then fulfill your appropriate Season Reward Level at that rank (10 wins for each Rank beginning with Bronze).
Like past seasons, Season 9 Rewards will also grant Titles for players at the Grand Champion and Supersonic Legend Rank. Here's the complete Season Rewards Breakdown:
Season 9 Rewards
Bronze I or higher: S9 – Bronze Wheel
Silver I or higher: S9 – Silver Wheels + lower rewards
Gold I or higher: S9 – Gold Wheels + lower rewards
Platinum I or higher: S9 – Platinum Wheels + lower rewards
Diamond I or higher: S9 – Diamond Wheels + lower rewards
Champion I or higher: S9 – Champion Wheels + lower rewards
Grand Champion I: S9 – Grand Champion Wheels + lower rewards

Meet the Artist
Geneva Bowers captures the world with her art through comics, children's books, and now Soccar! Mixing vibrant concepts with ethereal colors, her mystical illustrations breathe life into everyday scenarios. During our collaboration, we caught a moment to ask a few questions about her, her art, and her story.
Q. Could you walk us through your journey and how you grew a career in the art industry?
A. I will start at college. I dropped out after a year for a few reasons. I had no skills for anything other than drawing. But since that was all I could “do,” I was adamant about making a career doing art work. After reading a random user’s reply on a now-dead forum on the internet, I found out you don’t “need” a degree for art. So I studied online from YouTube and blogs to get good enough to be “hireable.” I stumbled upon a huge chance from a tee design company that happened to work out very well! I still tried to improve my drawing and general skillset after work, though. After a few years, the freelance illustration I was doing on the side started outpacing my job, so I made the choice to go full freelance. It’s worked out ever since.
Voyage, Lucid Blade, and Grasp by Geneva Bowers
Q. A lot of your artworks combine the mystic with the mundane. Could you speak to your connection with magic in the world?
A. A lot of my art is just “what-ifs.” What if this electric tower was the same, but with a dragon on it? What if this windowsill was the same… but with a dragon on it?? What if everyone was just, I don’t know, thrust into the ‘90s and given a sword? We all have a daily routine we have to go through that can be mundane, and I’m inspired a lot by general fantasy, so it sort of mushes together.
Q. As a big fan of the magical girl genre, I can’t help but ask about your webcomic, HoverGirls. What inspired you to take on a long-term project like this?
A. I’ve wanted to do a comic for a while, so I’m thankful for the idea for HG! I grew up on VHS magical girls tapes and love poking at tropes, so this webcomic was a nice vehicle to steal from anime and show that love. HG has been picked up for publishing by Bloomsbury next year (2024) as well, with about 40% more story and basically all of the artwork redone. The webcomic will always be up online, though.
Also, an aside: As a person who illustrates a lot of books and covers mostly for teens, I really wanted a story to exist where the story wasn’t just about being black or a person of color. For lack of a better phrasing, there are a lot of “black struggle” stories/major plot points that are important, yes, but I seldom saw or was hired for anything that was just a story where the main characters happen to be POC or black and it wasn’t centered around that fact. The characters in HG are just vibing in their established characteristics, and this is the silly predicament that they happen to be thrust into.
Artist Geneva Bowers
Q. What do you think about video games as an interactive art form?
A. Games are an incredible art form. It brings together most of the senses, and you can interact with it all on top of that! I especially admire games from the PS1/PS2 era, with all the tricks pulled to present this package of sensory art in such a tight amount of data/space. You can tell when something just has a lot of love and thought put into it.
Q. Different people gravitate towards different types of games. Is there a genre of game that you find really speaks to you?
A. Roguelikes and rogue-lites. I cannot get enough. The randomizations, restarts, dungeons, and loot are the ultimate dopamine hits for me. I immediately smother any other game of a different genre that has roguelike elements.
Q. What impact do you want your art to have on the world?
A. I just want people to be happy, really. There’s so much going on all the time. So I just want people to see rep of themselves and maybe feel a little more at ease for the day.
We hope you enjoy Geneva’s artwork in Rocket League! Make sure to check out her Instagram and shop. Now, go grab her free Item Bundle and keep your eyes peeled for our next artist feature coming later this month.

LIMITED TIME MODES
Week 1 kicks off on January 25 with Spike Rush, a prickly Mode where every car is fully carpeted in Spikes. You’ll need to be careful because whoever skewers the ball will temporarily lose their ability to boost, giving the other team plenty of room for an epic interception!
Next, we’ll see Speed Demon race into the game from February 1 to 7. As the name implies, this Mode makes everything fast fast fast. Unlimited double-strength boost, supercharged ball speed, demos on contact, and a 1-second respawn timer make quick reflexes a must.
Turn it up with Neon Nights from January 25 to February 7!
Humans love speed. From childhood cheetah facts to the ever-popular “race you there!” challenge, we have an innate infatuation with going fast. French hypercar manufacturer Bugatti has always understood this. With record-breaking hypercars like the Veyron and Chiron, Bugatti has captured the hearts of gearheads for decades. Now, they’re bringing that same heat to Rocket League!
Obtain beautiful speed with the 90s-inspired Bugatti Centodieci Bundle, available for 1100 Credits from December 19 to January 3.
Bugatti Centodieci
With a power output of 1,177 kW/1600 horsepower, the Bugatti Centodieci represents peak hypercar performance, but it also takes a great deal of design inspiration from its namesake: the EB110.
Sporting a modern version of the iconic horseshoe grille, the original EB110 defined a new generation of Bugatti. When it first launched in 1991, the EB110 was the fastest production car in the world. Today’s Centodieci is just as extraordinary, with an ultra-limited run of only ten vehicles made. Luckily, the Rocket League version has the same sculptural look and is much easier to get!
The Hitbox with the lowest profile makes a long-awaited return! That’s right, the Centodieci’s aerodynamic stance makes the car a perfect fit for the in-game Plank Hitbox. Equip the matching Decal,Player Banner, and Engine Audio for the ultimate Bugatti experience.

Long held in place by an ancient seal, the dragons of Forbidden Temple Arena have finally awoken from their slumber. As the two resume their eternal battle, these legendary beasts have left a treasure trove of elemental Items in their wake.
Discover the secrets of a long-lost Rocket Pass, unearth Forbidden Temple (Fire & Ice), and harness the power of the Emperor Car in Season 9, starting December 7!
An Elemental Rocket Pass
While dragons may claim the skies above, the Arena is ruled by a different breed of beast. Wrought from the elements, the Emperor muscle car comes to Rocket League with four different versions! The base car is available immediately with Rocket Pass Premium, and working through the Tiers will unlock the upgraded Emperor II.
Two more Special Edition versions will be available in the Pro Tiers. Emperor II: Frozen brings chill vibes to your sweatiest matches, or you can light up the Arena with Emperor II: Scorched. All versions of Emperor will use the Breakout Hitbox and are available in Rocket Pass Premium.
After you’ve got the new car, you’ll need some Items to go with it! Fans of the Interstellar Decal will be starstruck by the constellation-inspired Constella Decal, while the fire and ice theme continues with two sets of Special Edition Wheels. Equip the Piercer: Crystalized Wheels to freeze out the competition, or slip into the Forerunner: Roasted Wheels for your next barn burner.
Missed out on 2017’s Dragon Banner Season Rewards? You’ll have another chance to feed your draconic side with the Ice Drake and Fire Drake Player Banners.
Those who venture into the Rocket Pass Pro Tiers can earn two new Goal Explosions. Unleash the fury of fire with the Brimstone Goal Explosion at Tier 95, or unlock the Ice Age Goal Explosion at Tier 115 to put the world on freeze. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg—just like Season 5's Cosmosis Goal Explosion, both these effects will spread across the Arena, briefly covering the pitch in fire or ice whenever you score!
Play with Fire, Break the Ice
We finally found out why the Forbidden Temple is so, well… forbidden. With both dragons let loose, the once lush Arena has been transformed into a wasteland of permafrost and molten lava. Despite the damages, Forbidden Temple (Fire & Ice) seems like the perfect place for a friendly game of Soccar!
Tournament Rewards
This Season’s Tournament Rewards really bring the heat. Leave a trail of flames behind you with the Seared Trail and Fireball Boost. But first, you’ll need something to burn, and the Oil Can Antenna has all the fuel you’ll ever need.
For the truly lucky, this Season’s Black Market Rewards bring out the fiery side of competition. Light up the night with an incendiary Fire Clap Goal Explosion, or tap into something monstrous with the Skulking Scale, an animated Decal that mixes glittering crystal with the scales of a dragon.
Secrets of the Temple
After the devastation of the temple grounds, we discovered several ancient tomes amongst the rubble. Their true meaning has yet to be unlocked, but so far we’ve deciphered two short messages: Frosty Fest will bring extremely chill vibes, and Neon Nights is returning with the hottest beats ever! Our trained Psyonix Archeologists will report back with more info soon.
Season’s end also means Season 8 Tournament Credits will reset. Players who participated in Competitive Tournaments during Season 8 will receive an All-Star Cup reward. Unspent Tournament Credits will be converted to the highest level reward a player is eligible to earn based on their Tournament Rank and Tournament Credit amount. This conversion will happen automatically the first time you log into Season 9.
Keep your thermostat close—Season 9 begins Wednesday, December 7!
v2.23 prepares Rocket League for Season 9. Additional patch notes will be posted when Season 9 begins on 12/7/2022 at 8 a.m. PST / 4 p.m. UTC
More info on Season 9 is coming soon!
