We just deployed a hotfix that adjusts how Rocket League’s Competitive Skill Tiers are assigned to players and wanted to give you all some more information on what's changing.
Skill Distribution
Our Skill Tiers - Prospect, Challenger, Star, and Champion - are calibrated to reflect the overall distribution of player skills for the entire population of Rocket League. Like in many other games, this ends up looking a lot like a bell curve / normal distribution over time. In short, that means a lot of players are “average” and the further you get from average skill, the fewer players exist to fit that criteria. This essentially means you see a whole lot of Challenger I players, and not so many Grand Champions overall.
Since the skill reset at the start of Season 3, all four competitive playlists have settled into normal distributions over time, but on a slightly different scale than in Seasons 1 and 2. This isn't a bad thing in general, but it does mean that our old thresholds for deciding who gets promoted to Rising Star, Super Champion, etc. could be balanced a little better for the current season.
Adjusting Tiers
We just deployed two changes to address this and better distribute the active competitive player-base across the Skill Tiers:
Skill Tier thresholds have been lowered to include more players in the Star and Champion tiers.
Skill Tier Thresholds are now configured differently based on which mode you’re playing. The skill curve for 1v1 looks a little different than 3v3, for instance. This means Doubles now has different criteria for reaching Grand Champion than Solo Standard does. Each playlist should see similar percentages of players reach Champion tier and above. Because there are more total players playing Doubles, you’ll see more Doubles Grand Champions overall.
In terms of how this will affect your personal rankings: most players at Challenger and above will see themselves gain anywhere from ½ to 2 skill tiers. For instance, a Rising Star in Doubles might now be considered a Shooting Star or a low-division All-Star. Prospect-ranked players will move less so -- from no change to roughly half a rank.
Your ranks are not automatically updated, but winning matches will quickly calibrate you to the correct new rankings. Listed below, are some visuals of the overall Skill Distribution for Competitive Doubles for Season 3, before and after the changes.
Before
After
As always, we'll continue to keep an eye on Competitive rankings and their related systems. See you again next time!

CHANGES AND UPDATES
General
"Champions Crate III" series can now be found rarely after online matches.
The new Crate features all-new items including the "Breakout Type-S" Import Body.
The "Road Hog" and "Hotshot" Battle-Cars have received a visual upgrade.
Hotshot’s handling and hitbox have been standardized against similar cars (Dominus, Breakout).
Road Hog is unchanged aside from the visual updates.
Rumble Mode has received a few balance adjustments to the Spike power-up.
The Plunger and Haymaker power-ups can now affect a ball attached to a player by spikes. They do not detach the ball from the player, but can disrupt the ball’s trajectory and take the player with it.
Players using the Spike power-up with an attached ball are now slightly less agile than before.
Online
The “Cosmic” arena in the “Rocket Labs” playlist has been updated.
Goals have increased in size to be consistent with other arenas.
Walls are now standard (vertically straight) instead of angled.
The bottom wall curves touching the floor are now standardized with other maps.
The top wall curves touching the ceiling are now standardized with other maps.
Ceiling height has been reduced.
The “Octagon” arena in the “Rocket Labs” playlist has been updated.
The “corners” between wall sections are now smoother to make it easier to push the ball around the wall curves.
The bottom wall curves touching the floor near the goals have been adjusted to better match standard map layouts.
BUG FIXES
General
Fixed an issue in Rumble mode with the Magnetizer and Spike power-ups that caused statistics for Ball Touches to be artificially increased.
Fixed an issue in Rumble mode that caused goals to be incorrectly credited after a player touched the ball with the Magnetizer or Spike power-ups.

Surprise! Your next Rocket League update is coming October 4!
We know that this is probably coming a lot sooner than you expected -- especially since we're just a few weeks removed from our Rumble update earlier in the month -- but if it's ready to go, it's ready to go!
AquaDome - What You Already Know
We have new information regarding next week's patch in the paragraphs below, but the stuff you already know about is still pretty exciting. The AquaDome itself is a brand new Arena that takes place in a gorgeous underwater location. It's FREE for all players on all platforms and is built around Rocket League's traditional pitch layout. Here's the trailer for proof!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUVaV8ZGVbQ You might have noticed that we've added two new ocean-themed premium DLC cars to the mix as well. Better known as Triton and Proteus, these two new rides are some of the most visually-unique vehicles we've ever created. Check them out for yourselves on October 4 for USD $1.99 per car or regional equivalent.
Free Redesigns for Two Classic Battle-Cars
We're actively looking for new ways to improve Rocket League with every release and in AquaDome, this comes in the form of upgraded visual designs for both Road Hog and Hotshot. To be honest, we've wanted to streamline the look of these car for quite some time now and we're glad that we're finally able to replace the old models with new ones. Don't worry about those hitboxes or turning radii, they'll remain exactly the same!
New Achievements and Trophies
You've been asking us to add even more Trophies and Achievements to Rocket League, so we've added seven more in our next update. Here's the complete list:
GG - Win the MVP award in a game that goes to overtime
Trifecta - Score a Goal, Save a shot, and Assist a teammate in a single game
Infinite Power! - Activate every power-up in Rocket League Rumble

Champion Series III Crate
Our Champion Series continues with all-new exclusive Garage items to help fund our esports initiative! Use your Keys for a chance to unlock the seriously-awesome Import version of the Breakout Battle-Car (aka "Type-S") and never-before-seen animated Exotic Wheels, Import Rocket Trails, Very Rare animated Decals, and lots, lots more.
We don't want to reveal too much about the contents of the new Champions Series III Crate, of course, as these things are usually best left as surprises. If you can't wait until October 4 to find out, though, you can check out some of the items mentioned above on our official AquaDome landing page.
New Free Item Drops
As with every major update, AquaDome includes several free Garage items to go along with everything else, and we've added an ocean's worth of dazzling new Painted Wheels for this installment, in addition to some new Antennas, Rocket Trailers, a Topper, and more! We've even added the long-requested RLCS flag to the Community folder as League Play heats up!
Summation
Those are the headline items for the AquaDome update, but we have a few more goodies not mentioned here. Be sure and check out the complete patch notes for all information on release day, October 4.

Happy weekend, Rocket League players! Now that we’ve seen Crates and Keys in action all over the world, we are taking steps today to ensure a happy and healthy in-game economy.
Effective immediately, we are making a worldwide adjustment to Key prices on Steam. These new adjustments will use existing USD key prices as a base (USD $1.49 individually; $4.99 for five keys, $9.99 for ten keys, and $19.99 for 20 keys) and will more closely align all markets.
This alignment is necessary because Keys are part of Rocket League's active economy. Some price adjustments are more dramatic than others, but are necessary to reflect the appropriate and approximate value of the keys regardless of your country of purchase.
Expect to see Key price adjustments on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the near future as well (price changes are a longer, more involved process on consoles).
