Whether you’re planning to take a trip down the "Road to Grand Champ" or you're planning to grind out Season Reward Levels this month, it’s time to get motivated -- the end of Competitive Season 7 is just around the corner!

The May Content Update we chatted about in our Summer Roadmap last week marks the end of Season 7, which means that it’s now time to talk about what Season Rewards you can expect!

We’re taking a new approach to Rewards this season, beginning with a fresh set of Player Banners. While each Skill Tier still has its own unique Player Banner, the color and design of those Banners have been detached from the Tier they’re rewarded to (i.e. blue hues for Diamond and Platinum ranks, gold for, erm, Gold, etc.). This new approach gives our team the creative freedom they need to bring you fresh, awesome content season after season, while also helping to inspire new presets or even compliment existing presets in your Rocket League Garage

Take a look at the Season 7 Player Banners posted up top and see the list below for the distribution breakdown:
  • Bronze I or higher – ‘Season 7 - Tier 1’ Player Banner
  • Silver I or higher – ‘Season 7 - Tier 2’ Player Banner + lower Player Banner
  • Gold I or higher – ‘Season 7 - Tier 3’ Player Banner + lower Player Banners
  • Platinum I or higher – ‘Season 7 - Tier 4’ Player Banner + lower Player Banners
  • Diamond I or higher – ‘Season 7 - Tier 5’ Player Banner + lower Player Banners
  • Champion I or higher – ‘Season 7 - Tier 6’ Player Banner + lower Player Banners
  • Grand Champion – 'Season 7 Grand Champion' in-game Title + ‘Season 7 - Tier 7’ Player Banner + lower Player Banners

But we’re not stopping at Player Banners this season! Due to popular demand, eligible players will ALSO receive up to THREE brand new Goal Explosions! That means that you can expect to get ‘Striker,’ ‘Striker Pro’ and ‘Striker Legend’ Goal Explosions at the same time the Player Banners drop at the end of the season. Which Goal Explosions will you receive? Here's the list:
  • Bronze and Silver Tiers – ‘Striker’ Goal Explosion
  • Gold and Platinum – ‘Striker’ and ‘Striker Pro’ Goal Explosions
  • Diamond, Champion and Grand Champion –  ‘Striker,’ ‘Striker Pro’ and ‘Striker Legend’ Goal Explosions
Remember, in order to be eligible for Season 7 Rewards, you must first place in a Competitive Playlist AND fulfill the appropriate Season Reward Level or Levels. (You can learn more about Season Reward Levels here.) We’ve also been on the lookout for matchmaking troublemakers, and any account found to be abusing the matchmaking system may lose out on Season 7 Rewards entirely.

The end of Season 7 marks the start of Competitive Season 8 as well! We’ll be doing another soft skill reset this time around, so if you ended Season 7 at Diamond I, for example, you’ll match against players of similar skill during the initial placement matches. If you go on a winning streak during placement, you’ll eventually play against higher-Tier players, while a losing streak would put you against players in the Platinum level or below.

Good luck with the rest of Season 7 and be sure to tell us your thoughts on our Subreddit, Twitter, and our Forums.

Hi everybody!  As mentioned earlier this year, we plan to provide a Rocket League roadmap every few months to give you a look at what content is coming in the next quarter or so.  As May is now here, it's time to take a look at the roadmap for summer 2018!

May
In late May, we plan to release a Content Update including:
  • A brand new Arena
  • The start of Competitive Season 8
  • Competitive Season 7 Rewards
  • New in-game music with the release of ‘Rocket League x Monstercat Vol. 3’
  • And more!
June
Following the Content Update, June will bring additional activities both in-game and out:
  • New, summer-themed in-game Event
  • The RLCS Season 5 World Championship live from London (be sure to tune in for Fan Rewards)!
  • New Licensed Premium DLC
July
Every July we celebrate Rocket League’s birthday, and 2018 is no exception.  In July, we’ll kick off a big Anniversary in-game Event with some special throwback content for our long time fans as well as a lot of cool goodies to earn. Stay tuned for additional details as we get closer!

Summer Feature Update (July-August)
We also have another huge Feature Update planned for late Summer.  Some of the highlights include:

Cross-Platform Friends & Parties
  • Register an in-game ID that is a combination of a name with a unique code, like Scarab#7777
  • Add friends from other platforms by entering their ID into the new, in-game friends list
  • Party up with your new cross-platform friends and play online!
Progression 2.0
  • Leveling Updates
    • We’re removing the level cap of 75 and re-balancing the entire level-up curve. Levels will take a fixed amount of XP to earn instead of becoming exponentially longer as you level up.
    • You’ll be converted to a new level appropriate for how much you’ve played Rocket League in your career.
    • Leveling up grants you an Uncommon, Rare, Very Rare, or Import item (instead of these drops being randomly-timed as they are currently)
    • You can earn new Titles and Banners at level 100 and beyond to show off your status
  • XP Updates
    • As part of the leveling updates, XP is going to become Online-only
    • XP will now be based on Time Played in matches in addition to your Score.
    • New XP Mechanics!
      • Match Completion Bonus (for finishing games)
      • Consecutive Games Bonus (for staying in Casual lobbies)
      • Party Bonus (for playing with friends)
      • Leaver Penalty (to punish quitters in all modes)
      • Double XP Weekends
      • And more!
“Rocket Pass”

Alongside the XP and leveling updates, we’ve also been working on a new system to give you new ways to earn items and make progress while playing Rocket League.

Our “Rocket Pass” system consists of multiple Tiers of earnable content.  You increase your Tier by leveling up normally and you’ll unlock new, unique content as you go.  Each “Rocket Pass” will last for a few months before it’s retired and a new Pass will take its place with new content to unlock.

The “Rocket Pass” has both Free and Premium tracks so everybody has something to work for.  The Free track contains new cosmetic items as well as Decryptors and exclusive in-game Titles, while the Premium track will have a flat cost to unlock. You will be able to preview Premium track content before you buy the unlock to access it.

We are still developing the “Rocket Pass” system and we’ll  have more details to share as we get closer to launch!

That’s just a quick look at a few of the major highlights that are coming up this summer.  We’re really excited about all of the planned updates and hope you enjoy everything we have in the development pipeline.  Thanks for playing!

Hi everyone, today we wanted to provide an update on our servers and server performance. This should fill in the basics of what’s happened over the last few weeks, how we are handling it, and steps we're taking to prevent these issues from happening again.

(Note: To better understand what’s below: A server is the physical metal box in the datacenter that hosts several dozen server instances. A server instance is the “server” you play on during an Online or Unranked Match, represented by a name seen in the upper-left corner of your game when playing online -- USW734438, USW101-Aftershock, etc.)

After the Tournaments Update was released on April 3, we started seeing a bug that was causing several performance issues in both your game client -- the stuttering you may have seen when opening the Playlist Menu, for example -- and our servers. We fixed the bug in last Thursday’s v1.44 Hotfix -- “Fixed an issue that caused stuttering in the game client when secure TCP sockets are closed down” -- but the change allowed a new server-side software issue to surface.

This software issue, which appears to be unique to one of our server providers, was preventing the normal server instance restarts that happen either 1) on a timer, typically every 1-2 days, or 2) when a server instance hits certain triggers, like using too much of the server’s memory. With the automatic restarts not working properly, the servers took a sharp performance nosedive, leading to “lag” even when your ping was low, and poor performance for all players in a match regardless of their location or platform.

Over the last few days, we have upgraded both the operating system and the control panel software on every single server we have with this provider. 99% of these software upgrades will be complete by the time you read this post today. These upgrades fix the software bug and also give us the level of control we need to better pinpoint and address issues as they come up. The server reboots associated with these upgrades give us a fresh perspective on the server instance data we're collecting from them. We’re also looking into server hardware replacements in some regions, which will take several weeks to complete and should be seamless in regards to server access. While we are confident in these updates and changes we’ve made over the last few days, we are continuing to monitor server performance and will take additional action when needed.

Server issues like these are something we never want to see or have our community experience. It’s not fair to you and “fix your servers,” is not something we want Rocket League to be known for. We apologize for the disruption, and we appreciate everyone for sticking with us and being patient while we’ve worked through the problem. This is something we absolutely take to heart; it’s a top priority at the studio and has been for the last few weeks. Our affected server provider has been working with us around the clock to implement these software and hardware upgrades, and we have an internal group comprised of Infrastructure, Engineering, Analytics, Production and Community team members tracking this very closely. This group is also looking at the new expanded server data we started collecting shortly before the Tournaments Update went live and we hope that this new information will help us better track down and resolve server reports we previously couldn’t confirm.

If you continue to experience issues while playing online, please let us know through our support team at https://support.rocketleague.com/hc/en-us or via @RL_Support on Twitter -- and we will take any details you can provide to inform any changes or additional fixes we need to make. Thanks, all!

Hi everyone. We wanted to update you about the fixes we’ve been working on for the issues reported since the Tournaments Update went live. We’ve been hard at work on a hotfix, and we plan to release it Wednesday, April 11 at 2pm PDT (5pm EDT, 11pm CEST) on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Nintendo Switch will follow a few days after given the additional certification time required for that platform. Due to this staggered rollout, cross-platform play will be temporarily unavailable for Nintendo Switch players until the hotfix goes live on that system.

We apologize for the scope and severity of the problems in this update. We had hoped that our Tournaments Beta on PC (which was built from the same code branch as the final Tournaments Update release) would have revealed more of these issues. Unfortunately, it didn't uncover everything and we're discussing how to better operate our Public Beta Tests going forward so that we can maximize our chances of finding issues before release. We are also working with our quality assurance teams to better replicate the live environment for their purposes.

To thank the community for your patience while we work through these problems, we will be granting three Decryptors to every player who’s logged in since the Tournaments Update went live. The Decryptors should appear in eligible accounts on Friday, and we will let you know on social once they’ve been delivered. We’ll also be running a Double Drop-Rate Weekend soon and we’ll announce a date once we’re confident the major issues have been resolved.

Server Performance

Our top priority right now (in addition to releasing the hotfix ASAP) is investigating reports of new server issues that cropped up with the release of our Tournaments Update. Because not all players and servers are being affected, we are still researching the root cause. As we learn more, we will update the community with our findings and timeline for a fix.

We are also looking into what additional tools we can provide players, like a way to report problem servers while playing as well as real-time network stats in the game client. These tools will compliment the Connection Quality Indicators we included in the Tournaments Update to give you as much information as possible when troubleshooting server or network issues.

Upcoming Hotfix Patch Notes
