SteamVR has ended macOS support so our team can focus on Windows and Linux.

We recommend that macOS users continue to opt into the SteamVR [macos] branches for access to legacy builds.

Users can opt into a branch by right-clicking on SteamVR in Steam, and selecting Properties... -> Betas.

Full Update Notes

SteamVR:
  • Added microphone volume and mute controls to the SteamVR dashboard.
  • Audio mirroring (beta): Added independent control of mirror volume and headset volume. This will add an additional volume slider to the SteamVR dashboard for controlling mirrored audio for spectators. Adjustments made to the volume of the headset will not change the volume of the desktop mirror, and vice versa. Enable via Settings -> Audio (Advanced).
  • Added "Far" dashboard position option.
  • Added Play Area -> Wall Height user setting.
  • Added Play Area -> Activation Distance visualization.
  • Standing-only room setups now hide the center circle during gameplay, by default. (configurable in Settings->Play Area).
  • Improved visual consistency for Settings interface.
  • Allow physical mouse override in Desktop View for laptop trackpads.
  • Improved shutdown behavior (Do not block add-ons when crashing during an otherwise normal shutdown. )This avoids some annoyance when using third party drivers that often crash when being unloaded at shutdown.

SteamVR Bug Fixes / Performance improvements:
  • Fixed multiple crashes in SteamVR.
  • Fixed bug where Index audio volume could be reset when switching between multiple headsets.
  • Fixed cursor positioning on Desktop View for non-default cursors.

  • Fixed mouse lock and physical mouse override randomly not working in Desktop View.
  • Fixed rare crash on startup.
  • Fixed memory leak in HL:A loading screens
  • Fixed spurious warning messages for Desktop View.
  • Fixed users seeing “Hmd Not Found Presence Failed (126)” which sometimes shows up as SteamVR Home saying “Minimum supported version is v1.9.16”. (Bypass hardware detection for new clients when SteamVR is already running).
  • Fixed GPU memory leak in HL:A loading screens (Linux)
  • Fixed HL:A crash (Linux).
  • Reduced UI memory and CPU usage for most users (changed some system UIs to load on demand).
  • Reduced memory used by vrwebhelper at startup for certain rarely-used features.
  • Reduced dashboard GPU memory usage, and improved GPU performance when changing dashboard tabs.

SteamVR Input:
  • Changed binding UI to retain the current binding file's name when using the "Replace Default Binding" option.
  • Fixed Replace Default in the binding UI to replace the specific default binding being edited instead of the first one in the list.

  • Opened access to HL:Alyx environments to all users
  • Fixed “The host is moving…” notification that had lost its download / dismiss buttons
  • Fixed bug on Linux causing milky haze and broken sky rendering in the left eye.
  • Improved startup error messages.
  • Fixed five-fingered hands not working with buttons in some environments
  • Tools: Fixed crash in model editor when opening a second model without content.
  • Tools: Fixed memory leak when exporting a movie in the SFM.

SteamVR:
  • Added a distance slider for room scale chaperone bounds sensitivity.

SteamVR:
  • Replaced “safe mode” with finer grained control over individual add-ons. After a crash, users will still see some add-ons are “blocked”, but they can be unblocked individually to determine which ones are causing incompatibility.
  • By turning on “advanced” settings, users can find “Manage Add-ons” under “Startup/Shutdown” settings and disable any add-ons they are no longer using.
  • Fixed a crash in Steam that could happen when SteamVR was running.
  • Fix a case where parts of the settings UI or dashboard could become unresponsive until a SteamVR restart.

Valve Index:
  • Increase default brightness to 130% for all users with up-to-date firmware. Brightness can be adjusted (up or down) in the Video settings tab.

SteamVR Home:
  • Added callout to new HL:Alyx environments to Index owners, and reminded them they can create public rooms with them.
SteamVR - bendotcom
This build is a candidate for a full release and will likely roll out to everyone in the next few days.
