Today we are making SteamVR Home Beta publicly available. Every SteamVR user will now start in the new home experience, with access to more interactive, customizable, and social environments. To learn more about all of the new features, see this announcement.
Over the last few weeks, we've fixed bugs, added content, and added features to SteamVR Home. We're still in Beta and we're still adding features, but we think it's ready for the rest of the SteamVR community to get access to the new home space. Like all of our products, our roadmap and list of features to add is a mile long, and we look for feedback from our customers to determine what to work on next.
We've seen some amazing new content being added to the SteamVR Workshop, as well as environments being ported over from Destinations. If you have any content on Destinations, please follow this guide to bring it to SteamVR Home so your fellow players have access. If you are interested in creating environments for SteamVR Home, check these guides out.
If you'd like to opt out of SteamVR Home Beta, go to Settings in the Dashboard (Press the System button and select Settings) and uncheck SteamVR Home Beta.

Redesigned parts of the SteamVR dashboard, including adding an explicit Go Home button (if opted out of SteamVR Home Beta, this becomes a Quit App button)
Fixed issue where the time would sometimes show up in the wrong place in the Dashboard.
Fixed issue that allowed stale SteamVR apps to block SteamVR from starting up.
Fixed issue with SteamVR status window showing a failure when launching certain apps from Steam before starting SteamVR itself.
Removed enableDistortion user preference
Fixed startup crash in Battlezone on DX12 when Advanced Supersampling is enabled
Fixed an issue that caused some Revive games to not render in the HMD.
Fixed issue that caused Steam to think an app was still running. This would happen when the app started SteamVR as part of its own startup process.
Fixed case where some applications would fail to connect to SteamVR when launched from outside of Steam.
Fix for negative integers in settings.
Fix for non-pow2 textures failing to load on AMD hardware with mip-map generation enabled.
Fix for finding headset display in extended mode. (Err=400)
Fixed a problem that sometimes prevented some applications (including Star Trek: Bridge Crew) from starting up when SteamVR Home Beta is enabled.
Fixed IsHmdPresent detection for Oculus devices.
Minor updates to the SteamVR Tutorial.
Supersampling
Changed the supersample slider to no longer require a restart of SteamVR. Some application may require a restart for the new settings to take, but many existing applications respond correctly without restarting
Added an option to disable image filtering on supersampled renderings
Supersample slider now behaves linearly where 2.0 now means 2.0 times the number of pixels. Previously the slider was applied as a multiplier to width and height, so 2.0 used to mean (2.0 times 2.0 = 4.0) 4.0 the number of pixels. Existing settings will automatically be converted to the new linear scale.
MacOS
Beta SteamVR support on macOS 10.11.6 and higher. Details about Unity, Unreal, and Firefox support here
Direct-to-Display (aka Direct Mode) support on macOS High Sierra developer seed with HTC Vive
Dashboard and overlays are currently disabled

Known Issues:
SteamVR crash on startup with Kepler-based gpus (e.g GTX 680, 780, Titan Black) using the latest Nvidia drivers. This can be avoided by rolling back to Nvidia driver v381.89 for now. https://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx

Note: There was a short time when the default build (that everyone uses) was accidentally moved forward to this new beta build. That's been corrected. The beta is now build 1496603050 and the default build is now build 1495066092.
