Plague Inc: Evolved - Ndemic James

Version 1.0 of Plague Inc: Evolved is coming to Steam on February 18th (more info here)! As part of the game’s final update in Early Access, we’ll be launching the long-awaited Co-Operative Multiplayer mode. Here is a sneak preview of what you can expect to find in the update when it launches this Thursday:

As soon as you start Co-Op mode, you’ll soon realise that this is a fully-formed expansion to the core Plague Inc: Evolved game with radical differences to single player. Two different diseases team up to infect and destroy the world together but Humanity has new tricks up its sleeve to fight back! Work closely with your partner and use brand-new genes, traits and strategies to smash cure labs all over the world before they eradicate you.

It all begins with Patient Zero as you and your partner select where to start your plagues - will you choose to start on opposite sides of the world, with one player evolving a heat-resistant plague and the other aiming to wipe out wealthy countries? Or will you stay close together in an attempt to minimise the chances of being spotted too soon?

The disease traits have been fully redesigned and there are a whole host of new Active Abilities to use to help your disease along, such as Unscheduled Flight, and location-specific Infection and Lethality Boosts. Will you help your partner avoid the cure - even if it weakens you? Can you resist the temptation to steal some of their infectivity for yourself?

With all these new abilities, and two diseases running rampant across the globe, it’s no surprise that humanity is more vigilant than ever. Their most powerful weapon against the plague are highly responsive cure labs that focus on the disease they see as the bigger threat. Your disease will need to act aggressively - fighting to spread country-by-country basis as new labs pop up!

On top of all this, there are multiple difficulty levels for Co-Op, brand new genes to unlock, Multiplayer AI to let you practice your builds, advanced statistic tracking, a Double Strain cheat and lots of other important features and optimisations. There are also a few special surprises for both singleplayer and multiplayer...

Co-Op mode will be available with version 1.0 of Plague Inc: Evolved, coming to Steam for PC, Mac and Linux on February 18th.

Co-Op mode will be available with version 1.0 of Plague Inc: Evolved, coming to Steam for PC, Mac and Linux on February 18th.
Plague Inc: Evolved

Usually, if a virus stops adapting, it's finished. Fittingly, Plague Inc: Evolved will receive its final Early Access update on February 18, wrapping up two years of development. To their credit, the devs have implemented each and every feature they pledged at the start of the project in addition to requests from players.

Evolution (update) 18, which will take Plague, Inc to version 1.0, will introduce co-op mode to Steam's premiere pandemic simulator, joining the head-to-head play added in December. You and a pal take charge of two different diseases and attempt to bring down civilisation in tandem. That feels a bit unfair on humanity, but I do have a vested interest in not being riddled with disease. Fine detail on the update can be found on Plague's Steam community page.

40,224,866,097,135,818 people have been infected by Plague, Inc players. Here's to many more.

We are incredibly excited to announce that Plague Inc: Evolved will see its full release on Steam for PC, Mac and Linux next week on 18th February, with the launch of its final major evolution - Co-Op Mode!

Plague Inc: Evolved has been in Early Access for almost two years now and has already been a huge success, with over 800,000 sales across all platforms. By the time we launch, 18 major Evolutions (updates) will have been released, with some of the highlights including competitive & co-operative multiplayer, a custom content creator (with almost 10,000 user-generated scenarios made so far!), three major new disease types and 20 scenarios.

When we first announced the game’s release in Early Access, we had a clear list of features that we intended to bring to the game and I’m proud to say that we’ve achieved all of them (along with lots of other cool things that were requested by players!). Early Access has made the game stronger than we could ever have imagined, thanks to the invaluable community support we’ve received. From the wealth of incredible custom scenarios that have been made, to everyone that helped us populate our city-cams; our multiplayer beta testers and everybody that’s ever requested a feature or reported a bug, we couldn’t have done it without you!

Evolution 18 will bring the game to version 1.0, adding the final major gameplay mode that players have been waiting for, Co-operative Multiplayer. Co-op brings an entirely new dimension to Plague Inc: Evolved, as players take the role of two different diseases which must work together to infect and destroy the world as a team. The update also adds Multiplayer AI, advanced statistic tracking, a Double Strain cheat and lots of other important features and optimisations.

So far, over 40 quadrillion people* have been infected by players in Plague Inc: Evolved and people are just getting started! After launch, we will continue to add to the game, with new diseases, scenarios, genes and more, so keep an eye on our Twitter and Facebook pages to hear more.

Keep infecting the world!

James

Do you want to play Plague Inc: Evolved as a team with your friends? We are looking for beta testers to get involved to help us test both game balance and network performance for the upcoming Co-Op Multiplayer for Plague Inc: Evolved.

About Co-Op Multiplayer in Plague Inc: Evolved

In co-op, players team up to destroy the world, playing as two different diseases. It’s not as straightforward as it sounds though - humanity is prepared to fight against multiple diseases and they have a few new tricks up their sleeve! It’s essential to specialise your diseases and work as a team to infect the world.

How to sign up to be a Beta Tester:

Like with the competitive multiplayer beta, the co-op multiplayer beta test will be open to pairs of friends only. That means, in order to be considered for the beta, you must have a friend on your Steam friends list who will also be applying for the beta – so you have someone to play against. (After the beta, you will be able to play with random people as well as friends obviously!)

Development screenshot - not final!

Both you and your friend will both need to complete the application form, and mention each other during it.

The application form will be open for the next 24 hours, and we’ll be hoping to get the first Beta out there to play over the weekend.

To apply - please follow this link.

If you don’t get accepted to the beta test, don’t worry as you’ll get to play co-op very soon when we leave Early Access!

Looking forward to infecting some of you ;)

Hey everyone - Exciting times as development on Plague Inc: Evolved continues rapidly - we are very close to releasing the game from Early Access now! This update has something for everyone - a new multiplayer disease type, leaderboards, a tutorial and a whole host of polish / optimisations including a huge addition of new community translations.

Main Features
  • DANGER - Bioweapon now available in the multiplayer roster. An exceptionally lethal pathogen - it kills everyone it touches and humans infected with other diseases are particularly susceptible to it. Presents some interesting strategic challenges as its lethality constantly increases as the game goes on. (thanks to forum member HighDarkTemplar for giving me some cool ideas about how to make it work)
  • Infectious Plague School added! New to the game or want to learn strategies for some of the more exotic disease types? The brand new tutorial has your back, teaching you the genetic strategies needed to infect the world!
  • Multiplayer leaderboards (still in beta) - See where you fit in the global multiplayer community

Full change log
  • New MP VS disease type - Bioweapon
  • MP leaderboards added (still in beta)
  • Tutorial added
  • Chat functionality expanded to country select and end-game screens
  • New toggle-button on end screen mini-graph
  • New tooltip for VS. mode - time to cure
  • Added date into event pop ups
  • Updated community translations
  • Standardised notation for replays & evolution list (days)
  • Fixed land border icon bug
  • Fixed graph mismatches
  • Fixed shading for partial/fully infected countries on minimap
  • Changed chat mute icon

Full focus now is on completion of the Co-Op multiplayer mode - we will be looking for beta testers soon so keep an eye on my twitter page https://twitter.com/NdemicCreations/.

I hope to be able to share a launch date for V1.0 of the game (when we leave Early Access) soon :)

Plague Inc: Evolved - Ndemic James
Multiplayer has become extremely popular in Plague Inc: Evolved with over 210,000 VS. games played since we released it in December. The Cure Strikes Back update is a major multiplayer focused update which adds new features and tweaks balance. The primary focus is to increase the threat posed by the cure when multiple diseases are infecting the world. This should enable multiple new strategies - especially for experienced players.

Main features:
  • Cure Focus to multiplayer - if one disease is particularly concerning, then humans will switch over some research labs from the other disease to increase the cure research for the worst disease
  • Rich countries get even more concerned by diseases that are killing lots of people in other countries

Balance tweaks:
  • Minor adjustments to starting DNA in various counties
  • Reduced population density in china slightly
  • Slightly increased severity of some symptoms: Gastric Ulceration, Acute Encephalitis, Meningitis, Internal Haemorrhaging, Fever, Dysentery
  • Slight increase to cost of Rodent Transmission and slight reduction to infectivity increase
  • Slight increase to impact of genetic hardening at both levels
  • Increased cost of Unscheduled Flight trait by 1 DNA
  • Humans may set up Global Research Hubs (government action)

Other changes and bug fixes:
  • Wins / losses not added to stats if you play a private friends match (but you can still unlock things)
  • Added tooltips for chat box
  • Genetic exposure devolve bug fixed
  • Fix to 'black square' issue that some people were reporting

We are also working on CO-OP multiplayer, the tutorial and fixing / polishing various things before releasing the game. We aim to leave Early Access in early 2016. Not long to go now :)

Good luck infecting!

James

P.S. You may remember that I conducted an experiment on the Plague Inc. community by infecting myself with a special multiplayer achievement which 'infects' anyone I played (who can then in turn infect other people). It has really spread - so far 3.5% of all players have been infected!
