From randomized skirmishes to custom army compositions, players will be forced to think on their feet in the heat of battle.
Study each individual unit in detail up to their weaponry and individual skillsets. Scavenge enemy equipment and carry it over to the next battle. Build up experienced and combat proven squads, as each single soldier will move from one battle to another. Unlock new technology and evolve armies up to 5 times larger than the regular Assault Squad 2 multiplayer matches.

New Armor System
You may notice that we introduced a new armor penetration system into the game. Don’t be scared of the healthbars, these aren’t typical ones, like you know from other games. In fact Men of War, used a sort of hidden armor health system and upon penetration of a tank, it was throwing a dice as of what is going to happen next for instance: If you shot a tank and penetrated it, there was a 30% chance for hull crush and a 15% chance for hull broken and a certain chance for crew to die. This caused entire random results: if you hit a M24 tank, this could lead into a kill on first hit, or a kill on the 5th hit.
The new system works as follows: it gives each caliber a certain minimum damage it causes, as there is a difference between a 20mm and 120mm projectile. Then it uses the real penetration mechanics and depending on how hard you hit a tank, it will do more or less damage. This is to simulate that there is a difference between 1mm penetration and a shell just going through paper.
The new system allows accurate results each time, perfect for competitive gaming. It’s no less realistic than the old system, other than we visually display what’s happening to you. It also allows us to balance tanks in different ways, not just by armor thickness, but also by how big a tank is and how vulnerable it is. Use hardcore mode for a similar experience, you are used to in AS2.
New Netcode
For the future, we have plans for an entirely new netcode. The game will move away from peer2peer networking and support real server2client. This means, out of syncs will be a thing of the past, as everything will be synced through a server. It also will be a huge gain on performance for clients. In the previous netcode each PC must do all the calculations, in the new netcode, server will do most of the work and clients have time for fast render speed. We will invite the first players to help us testing as soon as the beta version is ready and then we will gradually op
More to come!
And that’s not all! We will be presenting a lot of additional features soon. Check out every detail in the game, there is lots to discover. Some hints: you will see medics in multiplayer, as well as engineers with new construction options, oh and helicopters, as well as airstrikes in multiplayer (which will be expanded)!
Why so few maps?
Please don’t be shocked by the amount of maps in-game, we moved away from having tons of little maps to massive maps that are split into several parts. Each gamemode and in fact, even the same gamemode, will randomize the spawn points and parts of the maps that are accessible to you. One Cold War map has the size of 4 of some of the largest AS2 maps.

Men of War: Assault Squad 2 – Ostfront Veteranen is a new faction DLC and expands on the game with a new unit selection, unseen in the franchise so far. Join the battle as a new German faction with more than 10 new vehicles and experienced infantry squads, who earned their spurs on the toughest of all battlefields, the Eastern Front. The new faction will be available in multiplayer and player vs. AI matches.
Today we talk about the new faction in detail! For us, it was very important to bring some fresh air into the multiplayer matches with the new faction, hence we tried to get away from the typical mirror set-ups and make the new units play and feel differently. Below we name the most important new units and features.
Leichte Aufklärer
The light scouts are equipped with the K98, MP40 and StGw44. Unlike other factions, the Ostfront Veteranen have no T1 units. They make up for this, to have battle hardened and stronger T2 units, but they lack the numbers other factions have. Quality over quantity.
Stosstrupp
The stormtroopers use captured PPSh and SVT-40's, as well as the new MP41. They are an excellent choice, if you need to push for a strategic point. You will also notice, that they come with nice camo pattern, unseen in-game so far.
Veteranen
The veterans earned their ranks on the Eastern European battlefields, and unlike the first German faction, they don't carry an MG42, but the older, yet reliable MG34. It doesn't have the same suppression power, like the MG42, but the 100 rounds and good accuracy provide long and excellent support fire.
Jäger
The Jäger infantery is an elite force of the German army. You will find them equipped with the new G41's, G43 scope and MG34 machine gun for support fire. Their auto rifle capacity and strong machine gun makes them a perfect match to allied elite infantry, especially U.S. We even took care of the little details and added their badge to their hats to identify them.
Gebirgsjäger
The elite mountain infantry is extremely well trained and battle hardened. They are tought to fight in snowy and cold environments, as well as to climb up mountains to fight their foes from advanced positions. You will enjoy them with the new scoped StGw44. The new weapon allows them to fight their enemies from greater distance with excellent accuracy. Together with the G41, their rate of fire and distance they can fight at, is superior to most t5 infantry in-game. Of course, they also come as mechanized infantry, with the all new SdKfz 250/1. A neat extra, Gebirgsjäger, use the German 3kg Ladung, instead of the common dynamite other factions have.
SdKfz 250/1
The little brother of the SdKfz 251/1 can carry less personnel, but isn't that big of a target and offers more agility. In case of the Ostfront Veteranen, it gives you the option for mechanized Gebirgsjäger at a very affordable price, but keep in mind, you get less soldiers in exchange.
Stuka zu Fuß
Literally translated, walking Stuka. The reference to the famous dive-bomber is a well chosen nickname based on the sound of rockets. The Stuka zu Fuß is extremely deadly, carrying large 280mm rockets that destroy everything in their path. Less rockets than the Panzerwerfer 40, but more powerful.
Grille
The "cricket" is armed with a 150mm howitzer and is the little brother of the Hummel "bumblebee". The Grille is based on the Czech 38(t), is very vulnerable, but a much smaller target than the Hummel.
SdKfz 234
Based on the same chassis as the Puma, the SdKfz 234 is armed with a rapid firing 20mm auto-cannon and is an extremely well choice to support your advancing infantry. The high speed makes it a perfect choice to harass your enemies on different locations.
SdKfz 7
The SdKfz 7 is an armored truck meets 3.7cm FlaK. Powerful anti-infantry and light vehicle choice, but lacks any serious armor. The rapid fire of the FlaK helps you to engage multiple targets efficiently at a relatively low cost. Just make sure, they don't hit you first.
Hetzer
The Hetzer, which refers to hunting someone down with dogs, is also based on the Czech 38(t) tank. Equipped with a strong 75mm gun, it can take out any medium tank facing it. The weak armor is compensated by the extremely flat angles of the armor plates. Just make sure, you are not hit by the sides or behind. It's an ambush tank and will perform best at his main role.
KfZ 15
The KfZ 15 is the new light car for the Ostfront Veteranen. If you call in anti-tank guns, they will come with the light gun carrier at some extra price. While you don't have the quantity of at-guns like other factions have, you have the most agile choices at your hand.
Veteran Officer
The Veteran Officer is tough, can take a lot of beating and is supported by elite infantry to guard him during his spotting mission. He's an excellent choice, if you need more intel on your enemies.
Panzerschreck Squad
Unlike the base German faction, the Ostfront Veteranen have no access to the Panzerschreck. Their at-infantry comes with the limited range and new Panzerfaust 60. It's cost efficient but requires you to get close to your enemies. The slow speed of the projectile also makes it hard to hit moving targets. The Panzerschreck squad will help you deal with anything that a Panzerfaust 60 can't deal with.
SdKfz 234/3
Based on a common platform, this armored car offers a short barreled 75mm gun and can provide you fire support from a safe distance early on. It's fast and agile, but has no turret, so it is best used against stationary targets.
Strafbataillon
The Strafbataillon consists of soldiers who were found guilty of misconduct. They were used to fight in the most dangerous missions and they were considered expendable. They are lightly equipped, but have enough Panzerfausts to do some serious damage, if anything comes close to them. One of their tactics in real life was, to let Soviet tanks drive over their trenches, to destroy them in a suicidal way.
Stosstrupp
The Stosstrupp comes with a half-track, mounting Gebirgsjäger and a 28mm anti-tank gun. This little gun is doing well enough to protect your soldiers from armored cars and offers a great counter to auto-cannon armored cars that you might find along the way.
SdKfz 234/4
The cousin of the Puma, equipped with a 75mm pak, this armored car can take out quite some well armored targets. However, no turret means it's hard to hunt down moving targets. It's a great ambush vehicle and can switch its positions quickly.
Radio Operator
Of course, the Radio Operator mustn't go missing for the Ostfront Veteranen either, so you will find it in your special units section, as well.
Beutepanzer T-34
Whenever the Germans could, they took conquered material and used them against their former owners. The Beutepanzer T-34 is such an example. Enjoy it with a special camo paint and support infantry guarding it.
SdKfz 8 Flak 37
As if mounting a 37mm FlaK isn't enough, this armored truck comes with a 88mm FlaK mounted on it. A great anti-tank choice for a reasonable price.
Schweres Wurfgerät
The stationary sibling of the Stuka zu Fuß. Very powerful, very strong, but at a higher price than other stationary rocket launchers.
Brummbär
The Brummbär "grumbling bear" has a short barreled 150mm howitzer. It's not exactly accurate, but thanks to the extremely good front armor, you can drive in relatively closely to your enemies and who needs pin point accuracy with a 150mm explosive shell, anyways?
Jagdtiger
The Jagdtiger "hunting tiger" is exactly what it names says. It's a tiger tank, for hunting down other tanks. The 128mm main gun makes this a beast of a tank killer. The frontal armor is almost impenetrable for most other tanks, but as with many tank destroyers, watch your tracks!
Stay tuned for more news and updates, we are eager to listen to your feedback!
