To bring more than half-a-century of railroading to life, “The Battle for Sherman Hill” includes multiple iconic locomotives from Union Pacific’s fabulous Big Boy and Challenger steam locomotives to the railroad’s unique “Big Blow” gas-electric-turbines to contemporary GE ES44ACs and EMD SD70ACe diesels!
Fabulous and famous: The Clinchfield Railroad was one of America’s most extraordinary railroads. Often called “The Rio Grande of the East” for its spectacular scenery and challenging mountain railroading, the Clinchfield Railroad now comes to Train Simulator!
Train Simulator’s Clinchfield Railroad route re-creates the northern portion of the CRR, where the railroad wove its way through the daunting and magnificent Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky and western Virginia and in in the process served a variety of on-line coal mines. The Train Simulator route represents the Clinchfield as it existed in the early 1980s.

The General Electric U34CH, a big, burly diesel locomotive built in the 1970s that hauled commuters in New Jersey and New York for more than two decades is now ready for Train Simulator duty – and the U34CH is accompanied in this new DLC pack by Pullman-Standard Comet I equipment!

To bring more than half-a-century of railroading to life, “The Battle of Sherman Hill” will include Train Simulator’s popular Sherman Hill route, five locomotive and equipment packs, and nine specially created and highly realistic career scenarios!
With “The Battle for Sherman Hill, you’ll tackle the challenges of moving heavy freight throughout the decades, from the steam era to the railroading of today. In a scene of contemporary Union Pacific railroading on Sherman Hill, a trio of GE ES44ACs lead a westbound grain train while a single GE is working as a DPU on the rear of an eastbound coal train.
Big Boy! With the upcoming Train Simulator “Battle for Sherman Hill,” you’ll take the throttle of the world’s largest steam locomotive – Union Pacific’s Alco-built 4-8-8-4 “Big Boy -- and challenge the unforgiving 1.5 percent grades of Sherman Hill’s eastern slope. At Dale, Wyoming, east- and westbound freights with Big Boy power meet at speed. Note: Screenshots depict content while in development.
Powerful, elegant, and fast – that was Union Pacific’s 4-6-6-4 Challenger locomotives. In a scene recalling the 1950s, Union Pacific 4-6-6-4 3985, destined for a long and famous career, emerges from the east portal of Sherman Hill’s Hermosa Tunnel with a priority Pacific Fruit Express refrigerator train in tow.
Train Simulator’s upcoming “The Battle for Sherman Hill” will bring to life more than half-a-century of railroading across the Laramie Mountains, including a brief period in the late 1950s when Union Pacific super steam and gas-electric turbines served together. UP GTEL “Big Blow” No. 2 has overtaken a westbound manifest on the slopes of the Train Simulator Sherman Hill route.
