Last week, we had our very first Path of Exile: Royale event hosted by Twitch Rivals. The event was a lot of fun to watch, so if you missed it, we've compiled a few of our favourite highlights from the event! You can check out the highlight clips here. Royale ends today, so if you haven't played it yet be sure to hop on to give it a go!
We'd like to give a huge congratulations to Team Havoc616 and Waggle for their amazing first place run, as well as to all the other competitors for participating in the event. We'd also like to thank everyone for tuning in to watch the event with us!
We hope you enjoyed watching the Twitch Rivals event as much as we did! If you didn't have time to play Royale this weekend, don't worry as it will make a return next weekend!
Yesterday, we released Patch 3.15.0e which introduced several changes and bug fixes to Path of Exile alongside some balance changes for Royale ahead of our next Royale weekend. We are also working on a couple of other improvements we want to keep you in the loop about.
If you missed out on getting your Rhoa Dinners last time, this is your chance to get in on the action! If this is your first time playing Royale, you can find out more about the game mode here.
Matches start at Friday 30th July, 1:00PM PDT and will be open until Monday 2nd August, 12:00AM PDT.
3.15.0e Patch Notes
Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug where Logbook explicit modifiers were not applying to Expedition areas.
Fixed a bug where you were unable to complete the “Defeat these Unique Monsters” challenge if you killed Innocence before The Matriarch in Act 5. Killing The Risen Matriarch now gives credit towards this challenge if you have already killed Innocence.
Fixed a bug where Medved, Feller of Heroes was not affected by Remnant modifiers.
Fixed a bug where the Usurper’s Penance unique helmet could not drop.
Fixed two instance crashes.
Fixed a client crash.
In order for the Logbook fix to take effect (for those on while it was deployed) you'll have to create a new Hideout through Helena, or let your Hideout instance timeout.
Royale-Specific Changes: (Only affects Royale, not regular gameplay)
This week's changes are mostly focused on increasing the variety of viable build options, reducing the chance of feeling stuck at level 1, and fixing a few lingering issues.
Royale Gameplay Changes
Players who disconnect from a Royale match will now leave behind a corpse, allowing their items to be looted.
Killing another player now grants 500 experience plus 20% of the player's total experience (previously 200 experience plus 20%).
The penalty applied to experience gain for killing a lower level player has been increased. For example, killing a player 2 levels lower than you would previously reduce the experience gained from the kill by approximately 40%, it is now reduced by approximately 60%.
Night Adders and Serpentine Constructs no longer flee from players, and grant approximately 20% more experience when killed.
Equipment drops from monsters and chests are less likely to be magic (and therefore more likely to be either normal or rare).
Monsters now drop significantly higher numbers of Skill and Support Gems.
Items spawned on the ground are more likely to be Skill and Support Gems.
Royale Skill and Support Gem Changes
Ball Lightning now deals approximately 35% more damage to players. Its damage against monsters has not been changed.
Blight's base damage over time has been reduced by 30% at all gem levels. The base duration of its damage over time debuff has been reduced from 2.5 seconds to 1.5 seconds. Blight's mana cost has been increased, it now costs 3 mana at gem level 1, and 4 mana at gem level 3 (previously 2 mana at gem level 1, and 3 mana at gem level 8).
Burning Arrow now proliferates ignites inflicted, with a radius of 15. It now has 20-47% more damage with ignite at gem levels 1-10 (previously 0-18%).
Cobra Lash now chains an additional time at gem level 1. It now has a 60% chance to poison at all levels (previously 40%). Its mana cost has been reduced from 5 to 4.
The mana cost of Divine Ire has been increased to 3 (previously 1).
The flat damage component of Explosive Arrow's explosions has been reduced by 20% at all levels. Additionally, Explosive Arrow now deals approximately 24% less damage to players.
Fireball's base radius has been increased by 3, and it now gains 5-7 radius as the projectile travels further at gem levels 1-10 (previously 0-4). It now has a 50% chance to ignite at all gem levels (previously 20-29% at gem levels 1–10).
Firestorm's base damage has been increased by approximately 29% at all levels.
Heavy Strike now adds 4-6 melee strike range at gem levels 1-10 (previously 2-3).
Ice Spear's base damage has been increased by 100% at all levels. To compensate, it now deals 45% less damage to players.
Leap Slam now has +1.2 seconds to attack time (previously 0.85 seconds).
Lesser Multiple Projectiles Support now causes supported skills to deal 30-25% less damage at gem levels 1-10 (previously 15-10% less damage).
Rain of Arrows now deals 70% of base weapon damage at level 1 (previously 60%). Additionally, it now deals 20% more damage to players.
Whirling Blades now has +1.5 seconds to attack time (previously 0.5 seconds).
Royale Passive Skill Tree Changes
The Accelerated Volley notable passive now also causes projectiles to pierce an additional time.
The Spellmaster notable passive now grants 10% increased cast speed. It no longer grants 10% increased spell damage.
The amount of melee strike range granted by the Reigning Champion notable passive has been reduced from 5 to 3.
The Path to Power, Frenetic Fighter and Endless Endurance notable passives now grant 300% increased power/frenzy/endurance charge duration respectively (previously 50%).
The Veinslicer notable passive now grants 4 life for each enemy hit by your attacks (previously 12).
Royale Item Changes
The Fated End and Doedre's Damning unique rings can no longer drop.
The Cloak of Defiance unique body armour no longer grants 1% of mana regenerated per second.
The Dance of the Offered unique boots no longer grant +50–60 to maximum mana.
The Royale-exclusive version of the "of Ease" local attack speed modifier on weapons now has a range of 15-25% (previously 8-15%).
Royale Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug where unusable Quicksilver Flasks could occasionally drop. There are meant to be no Quicksilver Flasks in Royale.
Fixed a bug where Divine Ire was unable to hit players while channelling.
Fixed a visual bug where the "Damage with Hits is Lucky" stat on the Cruel Voltage notable passive was not being displayed.
You will need to restart your client to receive the client changes in this patch. It is important to do this before this weekends Path of Exile: Royale event, as otherwise your client will be out of sync.
In addition to the improvements listed in today's patch above, we also wanted to reassure you that we're also still working on the following improvements and will deploy them as soon as possible.
Vendor Reroll Adjustments
We're changing the drop rates for the various Expedition NPC's reroll currency. The plan is that they'll drop from Runic Monsters in stacks (rather than as single drops) that scale up in quantity based on monster level, making them more common. Note that this change will affect Runic Monsters only, and drops from Excavated Chests will remain unchanged. Artifacts will also scale up in the same way, providing more in the endgame.
While you'll ultimately get more reroll currency for Dannig, Rog and Tujen because of the increased stack sizes, the drop chance has remained unchanged with the exception of Astragali (Gwennen's reroll currency), which has had its drop rate slightly lowered in maps. It was already far more common than the other ones.
We also wanted to mention that the fix from 3.15.0d, "Fixed a bug where item quantity modifiers did not affect drops for some items such as Crescent Splinters, Sacred Blossoms, and Expedition Artifacts" should make Expedition currencies more common as drops and increase their stack size in general.
Curse Map Mods
As mentioned in our What We're Working On post earlier this week, we are changing the Curse map modifiers to not have increased effect. These two changes are next up on our list of fixes to deploy as soon as feasible.
We'll be continuing to monitor your feedback regarding Expedition and Royale! In the meantime, we'll see you on the island, Exiles!

Over the weekend, we launched Path of Exile: Expedition! We've been really enjoying watching the community play through the new content and conquer the challenges that lie within. We have deployed many hotfixes and a restartless 3.15.0b patch so far, and have more coming! This post provides more details.
A lot of players have tried to derive our player concurrency numbers based on the data shown for Steam users, and have expressed concern that fewer people played this expansion than the previous two. To be transparent, the number is that 23% fewer players joined us at launch compared to our all-time record, and this is something we were prepared for. In addition to the normal variance between releases, we completely understand that Path of Exile had a lot of changes in 3.15 and this is definitely unnerving to some players. Thank you to everyone who has tried it out so far. We're really enjoying reading about your experiences playing with the recent changes.
Since release, we have released the following patches:
3.15.0 Hotfix 1
Applied a tentative fix to a new graphical T-posing issue.
Fixed various instance crashes.
3.15.0 Hotfix 2
The Reaper created by the new Summon Reaper skill gem now has better survivability at all levels.
Fixed a bug where the bleeding damage modifier on Summon Reaper wasn't applying.[l/i]
Fixed a bug where The Reaper would sometimes try to consume non-minions.
Fixed a bug where Boneshatter's self hit didn't trigger when-hit events.
Fixed a bug where Unearthed Zombies could be revived by Necromancers into a broken state.
3.15.0 Hotfix 3
Allowed Expedition Vendor Reroll currency items to drop from Excavated Chests as well as Runic Monsters.
Fixed an exploit where PvP-only characters could try to buy items from the Expedition vendors.
Fixed an instance crash related to Instilling Orbs.
3.15.0 Hotfix 4:
Fixed a bug where some instilled flask mods could remove grace period when entering new areas.
Fixed an instance crash.
3.15.0 Hotfix 5:
Fixed a client crash that could occur when using Forbidden Rite.
Fixed an instance crash related to Lion's Roar.
3.15.0b (from earlier today):
Applied another tentative fix for the graphical T-posing issue.
Fixed a bug where Divergent Eye of Winter did not have a description for its alternate quality effect.
Fixed a bug where non-unique Iron Flasks were not dropping.
Fixed a bug where you could not sell items to Tane in Tane’s Laboratory.
Fixed a bug where mini life bars were not shown for allies on full health.
Fixed a bug where the audio for player footsteps was too loud.
Soon:
Added the missing affix name for the "Chance to avoid being Stunned during Flask Effect" mod.
Added display for quantities of Expedition Currency in vendor windows.
Fixed a bug where the art for Alternate-art Flasks was not displaying.
Fixed a bug where the labels for Delve Chests and Azurite were not displaying.
Fixed a bug where Skin of the Loyal was unable to roll blue sockets.
Fixed a bug where gaining or losing modifiers that change the effect of Freeze on you, such as from an Aquamarine Flask, would not immediately update the effect that pre-existing freezes were having on you.
So far today we have been discussing a variety of community feedback and have either explanations or changes planned for a number of topics, which are listed below. Please note that this is not a complete list yet - we're still discussing many other topics but this is the set we are ready to talk about. We'd much rather get this first post out now rather than wait for it to be an exhaustive list.
Can the Merchant Vendor Windows show you how many Runed Artifacts you have?
Yes, we are working on making it so that the vendor window displays how many artifacts of the relevant type you have available for trading with the Expedition merchants. We'll release this feature as soon as it's ready (but it may be a few days).
Expedition Vendor Refresh Currency is too Rare!
The team are discussing increasing the rate that you find vendor reroll currency items for Rog, Tujen and Dannig. Gwennen's was already 4x as high as the others and is in a good place. We'll probably have a value for this decided by tomorrow.
Also, we are discussing increasing the stack sizes of vendor reroll currency items and all Expedition currency in higher maps. This should make playing in hard maps more rewarding than trying to farm specific campaign areas.
Were the Mana Cost Multiplier changes on Support Gems too Extreme?
Yes, they were too extreme. Based on feedback and data, we are reviewing the mana cost multipliers again and will be reducing many (but not all) of them. While this will ease the impact on your mana by a moderate amount, the goal is still that mana matters a lot more than it did before.
Are there any Changes coming to Ailment or Curse Immunity?
Ailment Immunity granted by flasks is being increased from 1 second to 4 seconds. Staunching Flasks will make you immune to Corrupted Blood, if they remove Corrupted Blood from you. Arctic Armour will grant Freeze Immunity. Aquamarine Flask is being buffed from 40% to 60% freeze reduction. The map mods that curse the player no longer apply the curses with increased effect.
I hate Goatmen. Tell me some good news.
We're nerfing Goatman Leap Slams and Molten Shells in the late game.
Why does Expedition have Twenty types of Currency?
We thought it would be helpful to explain how we ended up with so many currency items in Expedition:
Each of the four vendors needs their own type of currency. If we had one unified currency that works across all vendors, then the correct behaviour would be to determine which of the vendors technically has the best expected value, and to spend all of your currency with them. As it stands, there's incentive to use each of the different novel trade methods and not ignore any.
Each of the vendors needs several tiers of currency. We experimented with just one tier internally, but this basically became a gold system. By having multiple tiers that do different things and have uncertain exchange rates between them, we get all the advantages of Path of Exile's currency system and avoid the dangers that having gold would cause. Here's a very old news post from over 10 years ago that describes our philosophy here!
Each of the vendors has a separate currency for rerolling their inventory that differs from the ones that you spend buying things from them. This is intentionally different so that you have competing scarcity - sometimes rerolls bottleneck you and sometimes purchasing items does. Again, trying to prevent the bad consequences of having something similar to gold.
Dannig exchanges his artifacts for ones from other vendors, giving you a limited ability to smooth out temporary shortages in currency availability. Also, all the vendors will wait for you if you have to go and come back with currency later.
This results in twenty currency items for use at the vendors, which does feel like a lot. However, because you can immediately stash them into the Expedition Locker after an encounter, the variety of currency types doesn't really cause additional inconvenience. Regardless of whether we had one type, four types or twenty types, you'd still have to pick up a few items and stash them.
We feel that the gameplay benefits described above (plus the ability to immediately stash them in the field) justify the number of currency items that the league uses. Having said that, we hear you. There are too many types of splinters in Path of Exile. We will be mindful of this for the design of future releases.
Where is the Mystery Box?
We expect to release it tomorrow morning! It's slightly late this cycle because one of our team members had a family emergency, but that's all resolved and everyone is fine.
Quick PSA about how Remnants Work
We quickly wanted to clarify this because some players misunderstood it. Sorry for not being more clear!
Remnants are detonated in a sequence (as your chain of explosives reaches them). When one is detonated, its effects apply to the monsters unearthed by that blast and all subsequent blasts. This is one of the things you need to consider strategically while planning where to place the explosives. You do not need to wait until all explosives have gone off before you start fighting the monsters.
There are many more topics that we are going through that our discussions haven't reached yet. In the interests of communication, this post represents where we're up to so far. We felt it was better to post this now rather than wait a few days until everything has been discussed. We'll let you know as we decide more stuff on other topics. Thanks for the ongoing feedback!
The secrets of the Kalguur will soon be unearthed when Path of Exile: Expedition launches in less than a day! In this news post, we've gathered all the information you need to know about what happens on launch day and how to start downloading early.
The realm goes down and patching begins at: July 23rd, 10:00AM (PDT) The servers go live at: July 23rd, 1:00PM (PDT)
Three hours before the end of the countdown, the realm will go down and patching will begin shortly after. When the countdown ends, the servers will be live and you'll be able to join the Expedition League!
The patch size for the update will be around 8GB on the standalone client and Steam. We've also made a torrent available for this update which is around 25GB. Please keep in mind that this method, while available earlier, makes it a larger update as it includes all the existing client content. When patching begins for Path of Exile: Expedition you'll also have a few remaining files that you'll need to update as well.
This torrent only includes the GGPK file, so you'll need to copy it into your actual install folder once the patching server is up, no earlier than three hours before Path of Exile: Expedition launches. Please note that you can't use this GGPK file with the Steam client and macOS.
Path of Exile: Expedition will launch on consoles at July 28th, 5:00PM (PDT). Downtime will begin for deployment at approximately July 28th, 1:00PM (PDT).
If you're looking for some extra character slots for the launch, we're running a sale on these right now! This is also your last chance to get Apollyon Mystery Boxes! It will leave the store when our next mystery box becomes available! Keep in mind that if you haven't taken advantage of it yet, it's still possible to get one free Apollyon Mystery Box when you spend any amount of points in the store. NOTE: this is only possible once per account. Additional purchases do not grant additional mystery boxes. If you need some extra points, we recommend checking out the Expedition Supporter Packs.
In case you still haven't decided which build to play with, check out the Class subsections on the forum for suggestions from the community. Many of our community streamers are also providing build guides on YouTube.
If you want a new look to match your build, check out the Nexus stores of your favourite creators for their favourite Armour Sets to support them as well as the development of Path of Exile!
We can't wait to see your latest adventures through Wraeclast. We'll see you at launch!
Alongside 19 new skill and support gems, we're making a variety of changes to existing gems in Expedition. We've prepared all gem data at level 20 with 20% quality to help you plan your builds for launch.
Check out the threads on our forum for the Skill Gems here, or the Support Gems here.
The full patch notes for Path of Exile: Expedition are now available!
In order to help you prepare your builds and item filters we've also gathered the Passive Tree and Item Filter information.
Passive Tree Data
We've listed the changes to the passive tree in the Patch Notes but if you're a community tool creator, you can find the JSON data here. If you're not sure what to do with this information, don't worry too much! We'll update Path of Exile's built-in item filter in the game and the Passive Skill Tree on the website alongside the launch of the Expedition expansion.
Item Filter Information
Item Filter Functionality
You can now specify item classes by category, if there is exactly 1 category for that class. This results in it being backwards compatible, because the ItemClasses uses the plural form and the ItemClassCategories uses the singular. The syntax is the same, for example you can search either Class "Abyss Jewels" or Class "Abyss Jewel".
