War Thunder - CyberStonka

It has recently been 12 years since War Thunder opened its doors to all players. Throughout these years, we’ve always had one dream in mind — to create the best all-round game dedicated to military vehicles. With each passing year, we add hundreds of new vehicles, new locations and new mechanics to the game, and we’re constantly fixing bugs and trying to adapt the game to your tastes through the Roadmap.

We’ve come a long way, but it’s not over yet. War Thunder is constantly evolving — in the latest major update, amongst other things, we added Ray Tracing, which makes the experience even closer to reality. All of this is possible thanks to your unwavering support, which we value above everything else.

We’d like to thank you for all of your comments, feedback, the ideas you share with us, your screenshots, videos, tutorials and reviews that you’ve posted on Steam in the past year. From this, you make War Thunder one of the most popular games on Steam!

Steam has just launched its annual vote for games on the platform, with one of the categories being “Labor of Love”. This category is for games that have been developed for a long-time, over a period of years and still receive new content. We’d be honored if you considered the game worthy of this nomination. If you do believe it does, you can nominate War Thunder in The Steam Awards 2024 for the “Labor of Love” category by clicking on the nominate button at the top of this news article here on Steam.

Thank you for your support and see you in War Thunder🐌❤️

Today, we’ll be going over the bug fixes and improvements that we’ve made to the game over the past week following the Firebirds update. Let’s take a look!

If you’ve found a bug that you’d like to report, you can do so on our community bug reporting platform.

Sharpness issues

After Firebirds released, quite a few players experienced an issue with image sharpness: altering sharpness in the PostFX Settings had no effect. We fixed this issue first, and then noticed some more reports that demonstrated how excessive sharpness made the game look like it was running at a lower resolution. To circumvent this, we’ve moved the sharpness settings from the main graphics menu and transferred it to the PostFX Settings menu instead; all sharpness related settings can now be found there.

Underworld

We received numerous reports from players who instead of spawning their tanks normally at the respawn point, instead found themselves spawning in the middle of the map falling through the world into the depths below. From here, they were able to fire through the ground at targets on the surface with impunity. We couldn’t let that slide — there will no longer be any underground shenanigans.

Excessive limitation

Some aircraft weapons can’t be used at extremely high speeds, they have a fixed Mach number drop limit. Due to a recent error, this limit started blocking other weapons and even countermeasures on bomb-carrying aircraft flying at high speeds. We quickly spied the naughty part of the code responsible for this and fixed the problem.

Low visibility

In Air game modes, enemy markers started to vanish at distances over 10 km. It affected both Arcade and Realistic battles in cases where an enemy was spotted by a teammate. Like the previous errors, we quickly fixed this one too.

That’s not all!

As always you’ll find the full list of improvements in our main changelog! Here’s a few more while we’re here: while in a tank, your engine volume no longer decreases after exiting sniper view, the game will no longer crash when aircraft debris hit trees, and projectiles no longer pass through allies.

Today's update: Update 2.41.0.40

Aircraft
  • Sinai — a bug that caused aircraft to crash into an invisible obstacle when taking off from the runway has been fixed. (Report). Missions in this location are again available in Air Battles.

Matchmaking
  • Mirage 2000-5Ei — BR in Tank RB has been increased to 12.7.
  • J-7D — BR in Air RB has been decreased to 10.7 and in Air SB to 11.0.
  • J35XS — BR in Air RB and SB has been decreased to 10.7.

Graphics
  • A bug that caused the harsh movement of an aircraft with motion blur enabled to permanently blur the glass from the cockpit view.
  • A bug that caused bombs in the bomb bay to be visible through the aircraft in-battle, as they are in the secondary weapons menu, has been fixed.

Patch notes reflect only key changes, meaning they may not include a complete list of all improvements made. Additionally, War Thunder is constantly being updated and some changes may not require an update. Changes reflected in patch notes are formed by taking reactions and requests of the community from the bug reporting service, forums and other official platforms into account. Bug fixes and changes are implemented in order of importance, for example a game-breaking bug will be worked on and implemented sooner.

The IAR-93B is a Romanian attack aircraft and is the main reward in the Flight of the Vulture aircraft event that started today!

IAR-93B Vultur: An Event Vehicle Attack Aircraft for Italy at Rank VI
At a glance:
  • Ballistic computer for bombs and rockets!
  • Radar Warning Receiver (RWR).
  • Close combat air-to-air missiles.
  • Easy to control.
  • No countermeasures.
Vehicle History
[expand type=details]
The IAR-93 was a joint development between Yugoslavia and Romania in the late 1970s. The goal of the project was to create a multi-role subsonic fighter-bomber that neither country could build on their own. Each country built its own prototypes which differed in the composition of their armament. The first flight of the IAR-93 prototype took place in 1974. Serial production of the IAR-93 began in 1976 at the Avioane Craiova plant in Romania. Further work resulted in the IAR-93B modification with an afterburner engine. A total of 83 aircraft were produced and were repeatedly modernized.
[/expand]

Introducing the IAR-93B!

Meet the distinctive Romanian IAR-93B Vultur (Romanian for “vulture”) attack aircraft that’s the main reward in the Flight of the Vulture event! This subsonic aircraft features a good payload for ground battles and can also hold up decently in air battles. Let’s have a closer look!

Interesting: The IAR-93B strike aircraft model was created by player NovA29, with the help of Romanian gaming community representatives TeodorSan and TheFlyingNoob. Player Reg25RUS took part in creating the cockpit model. What a great job!

Diving into its weapons first, the IAR-93B features two double-barreled 23 mm GSh-23L Soviet-made guns with a decent ammunition load of 400 rounds and some belts to pick from. Since the IAR-93B is primarily meant for ground attack, it can equip domestic 100 to 500 kg bombs, fire S-5K and S-24B rockets, plus the PRN-122 which are new to the game. To top it off, the IAR-93B features a ballistic computer, excellent for helping you aim the bombs and rockets!

Like most attack aircraft, the IAR-93B is not very well suited for air combat, but is not entirely out of place in this regard. This is because it features an RWR and short-range A-91 air-to-air missiles — a licensed Soviet R-3S, rear-aspect missile with a lock-on range up to 3.5 km. Despite these air-capable features, the IAR-93B has no countermeasures, so you’ll have to dodge enemy missiles the old fashioned way.

Moving onto flight performance, the IAR-93’s speed is slightly less than the speed of sound, but its flight characteristics are excellent, even with a large amount of weapons thanks to a pair of Rolls-Royce Viper engines and its advanced wing mechanization. This is especially important in the IAR-93B’s main role as a low-altitude attack aircraft.

That’s it for this one! The Romanian IAR-93B event vehicle can be obtained during the Flight of the Vulture event that started today. Check out the link below to know more details!

Please note that this vehicle’s characteristics may be changed before it is added to the game.

IAR-93B — An Event Vehicle Jet Fighter for Italy at Rank VI
The IAR-93B was jointly developed by Yugoslavia and Romania and was intended to be a multi-role aircraft for direct support of ground troops. This jet fighter has a large payload for use against ground targets, and a ballistic computer to help aim unguided weapons. In addition to this, the IAR-93B is not at all defenseless in air combat thanks to its air-to-air missile capability for close ranges.

“50th Anniversary of the First Flight of the IAR-93” decal
    “CCIIZ Emblem” decal

    “IAR-93B” Loading screen

Among the rewards in the event is also this chest, where, when opened, brings the chance to receive one of the following items:
    • 50,000 - 100,000 Silver Lions
    • Silver Lion and Research Point boosters
    • Random Wagers and Orders
    • Universal Backups (1 - 3)
    • A random camouflage for a vehicle you own
    • 1 day of Premium Account

    How to get all rewards
Each stage is unlocked for 35,000 mission points and brings a new reward.

Please note: Once the stage is unlocked, you will need to claim your reward manually. To do this, click on your profile, select the Flight of the Vulture category, and click Claim Prize.

You’re able to earn mission points in Air Battles at Rank III or above in Arcade, Realistic and Simulator Battles. The number of mission points to complete a stage depends on the game mode and the maximum Rank of the vehicle that you use in battle. There’s a multiplier for earning mission points, which is shown in the task description in-game.

You can also earn mission points by using event vehicles that are Rank I and II. Event vehicles that can be used have the name of the event that they were obtainable in on their stat card.

The stages change every two days at 11:00 GMT: November 29th, December 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th.

Rewards are given when you complete a specific number of stages
    • For 1 Stage: trophy with random reward
    • For 2 Stages: one of the decal rewards
    • For 3 Stages: trophy with random reward
    • For 4 Stages: one of the decal rewards
    • For 5 Stages: trophy with random reward
    • For 6 Stages: “IAR-93B” loading screen
    • For 7 Stages: non-tradable coupon for the IAR-93B

Discounts on purchasing stages using Golden Eagles
Incomplete stages can be purchased for Golden Eagles, but if you’re significantly close to completing a stage, its price will now be significantly reduced.

Let’s say you have earned 85% of the required mission points to complete a stage, then the price of purchasing this stage will be halved. If you’re near the finish line for a stage and are at 95% progress, then the price will be reduced by five times. For example, if you’ve earned 30,000 mission points, then the price for unlocking this stage will be 499 Golden Eagles. If you’ve earned 33,500 mission points, then you’ll only need to pay 199 Golden Eagles. Remember to keep this in mind if you cannot complete a stage on time!

    The Upgrade for a coupon
When you complete 7 stages, you’ll receive a non-tradable coupon for the IAR-93B where using it will immediately activate the vehicle onto your account. If you don’t want the vehicle and would like to sell the coupon on the Market, you’ll need the “Upgrade for coupon” item.

The “Upgrade for coupon” item can be earned in parallel with the stages throughout the event from November 27 (11:00 GMT ) until December 11th (11:00 GMT) for 600,000 mission points.

After receiving the “Upgrade for coupon” item, you can convert a non-tradable coupon for the vehicle into a tradable one and sell it on the Market. The tradable coupon can be sold after 5 days from the moment it’s created.

The “Upgrade for coupon” item is valid until 11:00 GMT on December 14th. Until this time, you can use it or exchange it for War Bonds. Afterwards, it’ll disappear from your inventory.

To make a tradable coupon, select the “Coupon IAR-93B (Italy)” in your inventory and click the “Modify” button.

You can track the progress of completing stages and receiving the “Upgrade for coupon” by clicking on your Nickname > Achievements > Flight of the Vulture. If you don’t manage to complete a stage on time or would like to purchase a stage, until December 13th from the Achievements window, you can purchase each stage with Golden Eagles which will give you the corresponding rewards.
