The TOG II is a British experimental superheavy tank developed at the start of WWII in anticipation of a repeat of battlefield conditions as witnessed during WWI, however never saw production or service. This iconic British ironclad will undergo its trial by fire as it arrives to War Thunder as part of the game’s 11th Anniversary in the “Dreams Come True” event!

TOG II: A Premium Heavy Tank for Great Britain at Rank III

Features:
  • 94 mm gun!
  • Premium bonuses!
  • Poor mobility.
  • Large silhouette.

Meet the TOG II!

The anticipated TOG II will soon be joining rank III of the British ground forces tree as a new premium vehicle as part of the game’s “Dreams Come True” 11th anniversary event. A real old school heavy tank — let’s take a look and dive into the details of this awesome tank!

Developer’s note: “In War Thunder, the TOG II will have two variations to choose from in the form of a modification module: one will be its built prototype form that you may be familiar with that includes its 94 mm gun, and the other will be one of its intended final forms. Its intended final form includes added machine gun sponsons to the side, as well as hatches and a small cannon at the front that can fire smoke shells. We wanted to include its intended final form in some way in order to provide further exciting gameplay opportunities with this tank, as they ultimately enhance its abilities in battle.”

The first thing that will undoubtedly strike you when seeing the TOG II for the first time is its gargantuan proportions. It's long and probably big enough to hold a party in, but this was a deliberate design choice to use over trenches, which never came about. When it comes to the TOG’s primary armament, it’ll be a strong force to be reckoned with as it’s the powerful 94 mm gun! This gun possesses good rounds and ballistic properties, which means the TOG II will be able to effectively engage most opponents it will meet in battle.

Interesting: The name “TOG” is actually an acronym of “The Old Gang” which represents the tank designers who developed not only the TOG but also the first tanks of WWI.

The TOG II’s armor is decent for its rank, however is not the best overall, due to its mostly flat armor layout which is a weakness. The performance of the TOG’s diesel generator which supplies power to two electric motors can hardly be called impressive or even decent. Having said this, the TOG II will be more of a fun tank to play around in with your friends due to its meme-like nature. Practically speaking though, the TOG II certainly won’t be a suitable vehicle to lead charges with. Instead, it’ll be better suited to fortify and defend strategic locations from advancing enemies.

In your matches: Pro-tips when using the TOG II by Tom (Oxy), WT Community Manager (TL): “Keep yourself by cover and avoid sitting out in the open — It's a huge target, especially for aircraft (for real, it has more internal space than my apartment). All-in-all though, it’s not a vehicle to take too seriously, it has huge advantages along with huge disadvantages, and you’ll have the most fun with it if you approach it with that mindset!”

The legendary TOG II, which we’ve seen your excitement for after last week’s announcement, has finally arrived to War Thunder as part of the game’s on-going “Dreams Come True” 11th anniversary event. Participate and complete 6 stages in this event, and the TOG II will be forever yours!

On November 4th 1918, Austria-Hungary capitulated in the First World War, allowing Italy to gain a number of territories and finally complete its unification which began in the mid-19th century. This date has been celebrated as the Day of National Unity and the Armed Forces of the country for more than a century, remaining a holiday under different regimes. On this day, Italian leaders lay wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, barracks are opened to the public and army departments hold concerts in major cities.

The P40 “G.C. Leoncello” is available for Golden Eagles!

When: From November 3rd (12:00 GMT) until November 6th (07:00 GMT).
Where: Italy > Army > Premium vehicles.

    About the tank
    • The P40 “G.C. Leoncello” can reach speeds of 40 km/h forwards, is protected by decent sloped armor and is also able to pop smoke to hide from enemies. This tank can also use a selection of ammo to fire from its 75 mm gun. This includes APCBC, HEAT — which can penetrate 100 mm of armor, enough against Soviet T-34s and American Shermans — and HE. A fierce tank to be reckoned with!

    Earn the “Bersaglieri cockade” decal!

    Attacking

The attacking team uses the customized German Type VII Submarine, which is armed with 10 torpedoes in bow tubes, and 11 mines launched from stern torpedo tubes! In addition to this, two twin 20 mm cannons and one 37 mm cannon. Submarines are unreachable for depth charges and detection at great depths. On the surface, they’ll have great visibility range and can move faster, but here they’ll be highly vulnerable and easily detected by the enemy.

For a submarine to attack, it’ll need to be on the surface or at the depth of its periscope. Look for targets through binoculars or with the periscope and identify — keep your crosshairs on the ship, as this will allow you to calculate the lead for attack. You can also launch torpedoes, which is possible at a depth of up to 20 meters as well as contact mines down to a depth of 60 meters!

There are three types of views available for submarines. You can use the third-person camera at any depth, however it will not allow you to begin calculating torpedo fire. When you submerge to a depth of 7 meters, you’ll be able to raise the periscope and observe the surface through it. If a submarine is in motion and you have your periscope raised, it’ll be easier to spot due to foamy water forming. The periscope is not too high above the surface of the water, but is still safer than binoculars that can only be used on the surface. However, binoculars have the best zoom and highest vantage point, so choose wisely!

Remember to keep in mind the noise level emitted by your submarine! The higher the speed, the higher the noise level. A stationary submarine can only be detected when in close proximity, while a submarine at a depth below 60 meters cannot be detected at all!

Therefore when playing in your submarine, make sure to find the right balance between safety, speed and precision in attacks.

    Defending

In this event, the convoy is defended by US ships, specifically the USS Tacoma frigate and the USS Fletcher destroyer. Both can respawn at dynamic points around the convoy cargo ships and use any method available — depth charges, guns, torpedoes and good old ramming speed to defend against the attacking wolfpack. Having accumulated the required amount of spawn points, defenders can fly out in an anti-submarine aircraft to help defeat submarines from the air too!

Defenders can detect enemy submarines both visually, for example at longer ranges if it’s on the surface, or if it has its periscope raised as well as with the help of special equipment. Using a hydrophone will allow you to obtain the bearing and approximate distance to a submarine based on sound, but not depth. The faster the enemy submarine’s speed is, the greater distance at which it can be detected. At a short distance around the ship, sonar works — it can detect a submarine at depths down to 60 meters and will show you its silhouette!

Good luck and have fun in this challenging naval battle!
