War Thunder - magazine2

Greetings, fighters! We continue to work on making our game better in all aspects, and today we’d like to present a new article type: In Detail. It will include both player suggestions and our ideas that we’d like to elaborate upon and discuss with you.

Let’s discuss in detail markers in air events

We’d like to disable ground vehicle markers for pilots of fighters and interceptor helicopters during air events in Ground arcade battles. The markers will remain for strike aircraft, bombers, and helicopters with air-to-ground rockets and ATGMs.

Air events are a rather old mechanic that was adapted to new vehicle ranks by including more and more modern aircraft. But with more powerful payloads, more advanced fighters with front-mounted cannons appeared in the sky. Such aircraft were intended to escort or destroy strike aircraft (depending which side they’re on), but, beginning at the mid ranks, the fighters often prefer to rush to the tank battlefield and attack low armored vehicles.

As a result, we believe, gameplay suffered for both ground vehicles that had to fend off 2-4 aircraft instead of one serious aerial opponent, as well as the strike aircraft that were left with no cover while costing many times more.

Besides, after the middle of the battle the dominating side started to actively use air events for massive air attacks, lowering the comeback chances of the side that was already losing.

What’s going to improve

Fighters aren’t the “main characters” in air events: you can infer that from the fact that you can’t initiate the events as a fighter. Effective escort/interceptor fighters costing one point are meant to improve the chances of the strike or to counter it — depending on the side.

Fighter pilots that aren’t tempted by highlighted positions of the ground targets will concentrate on their immediate task, the tankers will clearly see their main target in the sky, and kamikaze attacks that annoy many of you will happen much less often.

From July 28th (12 GMT) until July 31st (12 GMT)

The destroyers “Stroyny” and “Neustrashimy” from the Soviet blue water research tree are available for purchase for Golden Eagles.

The main calibre of the “Stroyny” is the four 130mm B-13 cannons with three types of shells, effective against different types of enemies. The 76mm auxiliary calibre is also quite powerful for its class and six 37mm anti-aircraft guns will ward off any enemy aircraft and boats.

“Neustrashimy” on other hand has only two main calibre turrets but wait! ±180 degrees of traverse, an impressive fire rate and excellent ballistics make these 130mm artillery guns truly versatile. The 45mm anti-aircraft guns can protect not only itself but also any surrounding allies and the running characteristics also allows captains to freely change flanks in the battle.

“Great emblem of the Russian Navy” decal

From July 28th (12 GMT) until July 31st (12 GMT)

Play 3 battles using Soviet ships (rank III or higher when activity of not less than 70%) and receive the “Great emblem of the Russian Navy” decal.

“Great emblem of the Russian Navy” decal

Complete the task in random battles, except for Enduring Confrontation missions and [Assault] mode. Track your progress in the hangar by clicking Nickname → Achievements → Holidays → Russian Navy Day.

You can find the decal in the “USSR → Ships” tab in the Customisation menu.

    • An error that caused lack of fragment damage to parts of helicopters/aircraft when fragmentation munitions with a calibre of 20 mm or higher exploded inside the fuselage and wings has been fixed. This error caused damage to be lower after we implemented the realistic fragment spread mechanic since the fragments could pass from inside a target to outside via fuselage and wings without dealing damage. Now the fragments spread correctly and deal the same damage as before the implementation of the realistic spread.
    • For aircraft missiles with a laser seeker or a semi-automatic guidance system (SACLOS) during third person play, a visualisation of missile launch window has been added to clearly display guidance zones that are available for launch.
    • For AGM-12С, AGM-12B, AA-20, AS-20, AS-30 missiles, the smoke trail has been modified to be less voluminous and more transparent according to visual references and to make aiming more comfortable.
    • An error that caused the compensation for expenses to not count the automatic purchase of “Crew replenishment” after a battle has been fixed.
    • An error that caused information about active boosters to not be displayed correctly when copying the battle log has been fixed (report).
    • A timer has been added to the sights of ground vehicles, helicopters, and aircraft that counts down the time during which it is still possible to launch a beam-riding missile without undermining guidance of the previously launched missiles.

The Warbond shop for the “Armour Breaking Ambusher” Battle Pass season will be open from 26th of July until 25th of October.

We’d like to present an assortment of goods that will be available for Warbonds that you will earn in the Battle Pass! As usual, we have decals, decorations, camouflages, a new stylish pinup, and six premium vehicles!

Pay special attention to the French B1 ter tank — this steel monster boasts impressive armour for its rank, making it able to hold off almost any attack or lead the offensive against enemy positions.

The Warbond shop is available to players that have vehicles of rank III and up and is part of the Battle Pass. You can purchase items with the special ‘Warbond’ currency that can be obtained by unlocking Battle Pass levels.

Open “Shop” → “Warbond shop” to see an assortment where some of the more interesting items can be seen.

Premium vehicles in the new season:

Smelyi — first time in the shop

Lead ship of the 30-bis project destroyers — the largest series of bigger ships in the history of the Soviet navy. It has impressive weaponry for its II Rank: four 130 mm mail calibre guns, two 85 mm secondary calibre guns, fourteen AA guns and up to ten 533 mm torpedoes.

    IAR-81C

This Romanian fighter-bomber can be found at Rank II in the Italian aviation tree. It's very manoeuvrable and has great payload options, including bombs up to 250 kg and 20 mm Wfr. Gr. 21Е Doedel rockets that can destroy even heavy tanks. And it can fend off enemy aircraft with its wing-mounted 20 mm MG 151 cannons and a pair of 7.92 mm machine guns.

    Grant I (USA)

This American Rank II tank differs from its predecessor, the M3 Lee, with its redesigned turret. It lacks an AA machine gun, but compensates for that by having a smoke grenade launcher, great frontal armour, six crew members, and two cannons: 37 mm and 75 mm.

    IJN Yubari

A Japanese Rank III experimental light cruiser. It has decent AA defences and is small like a destroyer — enemies will have a hard time hitting it. It's no match for other cruisers, but it's perfect for handling enemy destroyers!

    Ta 154 A-1

One of the first German night fighters created to counter the British Mosquitoes. It has great manoeuvrability and very powerful and precise frontal armament consisting of two 30 mm MK 108 cannons and two 20 mm MG 151 cannons. You'll find it on Rank III of German aviation.

    B1 ter

French Rank II tank. An improvement over the B1 bis tank granted the vehicle an extra crew member, raised its armour to 70 mm, and improved horizontal traverse of its 75 mm gun. And it's not alone: there's also a 47 mm cannon with great vertical guidance angles! Hold the enemy fire — and return it tenfold!

    Other Items:
    • "Cancer Zodiac" pinup
    • decals
    • player icon
    • decorations

    Cancer Zodiac pinup

Decals are represented in the trophy with decals from the 2020 Warbonds shop, as well as a new “Cancer Zodiac” pinup which continues the series of themed decals. The Road Signs trophy will provide you with decorations that will surely amuse car enthusiasts. The player icons in the corresponding trophy this time features German tankers. Trophies with random camouflages, as before, become available as new store levels are opened.

A large number of usable items are also available in the store: boosters, universal backups, wagers and orders, test drives of premium vehicles — even talismans on the highest levels of the shop.

Check out the full assortment of available Warbond items for the current Battle Pass season and the terms for purchasing them in the game by opening the Battle Pass window or “Shop -> Warbond Shop”!

    Hello everyone,

We are continuing to tell you about the improvements that we are implementing based on the Roadmap we released in June. In this news, we’ll be talking about the changes that will allow Battle Pass tasks to be completed in Simulator Battles (SB).

This planned Roadmap change was originally scheduled to be released in the Autumn 2023 Major Update, however with the release of the new Battle Pass season 12 that has arrived today, the 26th of July, we’ll be bringing this long-awaited change forward to today instead, ahead of schedule.

You will be able to complete the same battle tasks and challenges in Tank SB as in AB or RB. In Air SB there will be a few exceptions: due to mission specifics and availability of the lobby system, some tasks and challenges, such as participation in a certain number of missions or tasks aimed at destroying AI controlled vehicles or targets, will be unavailable.

This change will significantly help out the SB player base, and any player looking to get into SB but was not willing to due to Battle Pass tasks being unavailable. We hope that you will enjoy this change!

As we release the planned changes in our roadmap, we'll also continue to update the infographic, so that you can easily see what we have already implemented. Here is the latest version!

    • Compensation for automatic vehicle repairs and automatic ammo refills after battles have been added for premium account owners. To receive compensation for repairs and ammo, you need to check the “Automatically repair all vehicles after the battle” and “Automatically purchase spent ammunition after the battle” boxes in the research window before the battle. Compensation of your expenses is calculated based on how much you’ve earned during the session excluding penalties for destroying allies (they are not compensated). Compensation of expenses is added to the list of rewards when the battle ends and is displayed in the battle statistics screen and in personal messages that contain battle results.
    • Payments for repairs of vehicles destroyed by your allies have been disabled. In modes where there are no repairs but pair respawns (such as Air SB), if an ally destroys your vehicle, your next respawn in this session in the same vehicle will be free.
    • A rewards table has been added to the personal message window with better displayed battle results. The detailed log is only available in the main game modes: Ground arcade, realistic, simulator battles; Air arcade, realistic, simulator battles; Naval arcade, realistic battles; Helicopter battles.
    • The ability to copy detailed battle results to the clipboard to share them online or analyse them has been added.
    • When buying premium or pack vehicles, players will now receive a specific number of backups that depend on the vehicle rank and is displayed before purchase.
    • Now players will receive mission points for helping repair or extinguish fires for their allies. In Ground battles, for each repair assist a player will receive 40 mission points up to 10 times per session, and 150 points for each fire put out (no limits). In Naval battles a player will receive 10 points per each repair, up to 10 times per session.
    • When a gunner gets knocked out, there is now a delay before the tank commander gains control over the duplicate fire control system. The commander taking over the controls is marked by a circular indicator around a gunner replacement indicator. If a “duplicate” mode is used in the commander’s sights when the gunner is knocked out, the commander takes over the fire control system with no delay.

    War Thunder - Blitzkrieg Wulf

We continue to implement improvements listed in our War Thunder Changes Roadmap. This time, a multitude of various changes awaits you: improvement to premium accounts, free repairs when destroyed by friendly fire, a more detailed rewards log after the battle, free backups for premium vehicles, mission points for helping teammates and improved mechanics of duplicate fire control mode. Let’s break them down!

    Improving Premium Accounts
Now all owners of a premium account will receive an “insurance”: when losing SL as a result of the battle, you will be compensated for automatic vehicle repairs and automatic ammo refill after the battle. To receive compensation for repairs and ammo, you need to check the “Automatically repair all vehicles after the battle” and “Automatically purchase spent ammunition after the battle” boxes before the battle. Compensation of your expenses is calculated based on how much you’ve earned during the session excluding penalties for destroying allies (they are not compensated).

For example, if you have earned 10,000 SL during a battle, but also received 3,000 SL in penalties for killing allies, your final earnings amount to 7,000 SL. Assuming you’ve spent 12,000 SL for repairs and ammunition in this session, the compensation will be 2,000 SL instead of 5,000, and in total you will lose 3,000 SL as a result — exactly the same amount as the penalty for killing allies. With no friendly kills you will always break even or earn more SL than you’ve spent.

Compensation of expenses is added to the list of rewards when the battle ends and is displayed on the battle statistics screen and in personal messages that contain battle results.

Free Repairs when you get Destroyed by an Ally
This one’s simple: if your vehicle was destroyed by an ally, you won’t have to pay for its repairs after the battle. And in modes where there are no repairs but pair respawns (such as Air SB), if an ally destroys your vehicle, your next respawn in this session on the same vehicle will be free.

Detailed Rewards Log after a Battle
A rewards table has been added to the personal message window with better battle results. It is similar to the statistics screen displayed after battle, but each line has a pop-up tooltip that lists each separate reward along with a timestamp when this action was undertaken, and also several additional clarifying parameters that will allow you to compare the rewards for various actions and vehicles.

The detailed log is only available in the main game modes: Ground arcade, realistic, simulator battles; Air arcade, realistic, simulator battles; Naval arcade, realistic battles; Helicopter battles.

The ability to copy detailed battle results to the clipboard to share them online or analyze them has also been added.

The detailed log displays all the main actions that a player receives rewards for, except for "Hits": we may add that in the future after testing and additional polish. After testing, we may also add additional rewards in the session that aren’t related to the immediate actions of a player, such as Orders. All rewards that didn’t get their own lines in the list, are collected under “Other rewards”.

Free Backups for Purchases of Premium Vehicles
When buying premium or pack vehicles, you will now receive a specific number of backups that depends on the vehicle rank and is displayed before purchase.

    Mission Points for Helping Teammates
Now players will receive mission points for helping repair or extinguish fires for their allies. The number of points depends on the game mode. In Ground battles for each repair assist the player will receive 40 mission points up to 10 times per session (to counter possible foul play; fair players don’t usually repair allies over 10 times in a single session), and 150 points for each fire put out (no limits). In Naval battles helping out with repairs doesn’t require any sacrifices or even effort from the helper and occurs automatically when remaining near an ally, so less points will be awarded than in Ground battles — 10 per each repair, up to 10 times per session.

Improving the Duplicate Fire Control Mode
When a gunner gets knocked out, there is now a delay before the tank commander gains control over the duplicate fire control system. The commander taking over the controls is marked by a circular indicator around a gunner replacement indicator. If a “duplicate” mode is used in the commander’s sights when the gunner is knocked out, the commander overtakes the fire control system with no delay.

That’s all for today, but we are continuing our work on improving War Thunder. Check out our progress in this infographic:
