Continuing the transition to an economy based on vehicle ranks
In February last year we began the transition to a rank-based economy, which was chosen by the majority of players in a vote. We remind you that this transition requires several smoothed economy updates. With the release of the current economy update, the transition to the new system will be completed for most aircraft and ground vehicles of rank III and higher.

Maximum repair cost in the table sheet for economy changes
Usually in the table sheet, economy changes indicate the minimum repair cost of vehicles without taking into account used modifications. This is the “default” repair cost of vehicles that will be shown in the vehicle card for example before research or purchase. However in the case of different number of modifications in the vehicle and accordingly different additions to the repair cost from modifications it is not quite correct to compare the minimum repair cost. For example, right now (before the economy changes), the repair cost of the T-80BVM in RB when all modifications are installed will be changed from 3690 to 7405 SL and for the Leopard 2A6 - from 5410 to 8050 SL. We see the estimated (maximum) repair cost of these vehicles differs by only 8.7% while the basic (minimum) - almost one and a half times. At the same time the change in the repair cost of vehicles must be of interest primarily to those players who own these vehicles; play them and have already researched a number of modifications or even all of them. And accordingly see and spend no longer the basic repair cost.

Beginning in this update we decided to use in the economy change tables, the maximum repair cost of the vehicle by taking into account all installed modifications.

Open the table sheet of changes

However, in this update, for the last time a table with minimum repair cost will also be presented, so that everyone can make sure that the repair cost of all vehicles hasn’t been increased several times and these are two different parameters - the minimum (basic) repair cost and the maximum (estimated) repair cost.

Open the table sheet of changes (with minimum repair cost)

Converting the repair time of vehicles in the hangar to the system of vehicle ranks
Free vehicle repairs in the hangar allows you to save a certain amount of SL on vehicle repair. That’s why initially the time of free repair has been calculated from the repair cost of the vehicle. But for some vehicles in some game modes (aircraft in SB, fleet in AB and RB) the repair cost became very high due to the peculiarities of vehicles and modes (primarily because of the large average life span) which led to a very long time of free repair.

We decided to simplify this mechanics and fixed the free repair time depending on the economy rank of the vehicle (rank and position in the research tree) by analogy with such indicators as research cost, price, crew training price, RP multiplier and some others.

As a basis for calculating the new free repair time, the average repair time rates of ground vehicles were taken.

Changes of the cost of the expendable modification "Crew Replenishment"
Repair costs are not the only expense in battle. Silver Lions will also be spent on ammo, suspended weaponry and the expendable modification "Crew Replenishment". All these expenses will be taken into account when calculating the repair cost and subtracted from the initially calculated value forming the final estimated repair cost. Moreover, the share of expenditures on consumables should be noticeably lower than the expenditures on repairs. However in the case of the “Crew Replenishment” modification this rule isn’t followed - the modification is too expensive for rank I vehicles but too cheap for rank V and higher and we will fix it in this economy update.

Now the cost of the "Crew Replenishment" will be linked not to vehicle rank but to the economy rank(rank and position in the research tree on the rank) which will allow to fine-tune the price of the modification for all vehicles. For reserve vehicles the price will drop from 100 to 10 SL, for other rank I vehicles it will drop from 100 to 40-70 SL, for rank VII vehicles it will increase from 700 to 1000-1100 SL. Once again, please note that an increase in the cost of an expendable modification does not mean an overall increase in costs, as it is taken into account when calculating the price of a vehicle repair.

Changes in the research and purchase cost of squadron vehicles
There will be changes to the research and purchase costs for a number of squadron vehicles.

New reserve aircraft comes to the US tech tree in the upcoming War Thunder update. Meet first photos and details!

BF2C-1, fighter, USA., rank I. Reserve aircraft.

Features:
  • Good turn rate
  • 4x100 lb bombs
  • Poor offensive armament
The BF2C-1 carrier-based fighter project was proposed by Curtiss to equip the new American aircraft carriers, which began to enter service with the US Navy in the early 1930s. Curtiss modified its Curtiss F11C Goshawk fighter, equipping the aircraft with a retractable landing gear and reinforced metal wings. Despite the good speed performance, the aircraft became less maneuverable due to the heavier weight. Nevertheless, the naval command placed an order for a small batch of fighter-bomber modifications, designated BF2C-1 Goshawk. During trial service with the VB-5 squadron on the USS Ranger aircraft carrier, the fighter reveals serious issues with the landing gear, due to which it was soon decommissioned from service.

Until recently, the US carrier-based aviation reserve aircraft was the P-26 Peashooter, an all-metal monoplane that was noticeably inferior to reserve biplanes of other nations in terms of maneuverability. With the release of the next major War Thunder update, the new reserve of the US tech tree will be the Curtiss BF2C-1 Goshawk biplane. Let's take a closer look at it, shall we?

The new BF2C-1 is one of the most advanced biplane generations in the history of warfare, combining the signature biplane maneuverability with a good speed performance, which can even be even higher than some early monoplanes. A special feature of the BF2C-1 is the ability to install four 100 lb bombs with a separate drop, which makes the new reserve a great choice for the low rank mixed battles.

Like many other reserve biplanes, the BF2C-1 lacks firepower. A pair of rifle-caliber machine guns is usually not enough to instantly shoot down an enemy fighter with a short burst, while heavier aircraft will most probably require several attacks. However, the huge ammunition load of machine guns and good cooling of the barrels make it possible to pray-and-spray, while sticking on the enemy's six o’clock.

You will be able to test the new American navy reserve aircraft in battle, or even start studying the excellent lineup of the US aviation with the new BF2C-1 in the upcoming major War Thunder update. More news in our Developers Diary series - stay tuned!
War Thunder - Blitzkrieg Wulf

Soviet multiple-rocket launch system BM-31-12 will become the main prize of the upcoming Victory Day event in War Thunder.

BM-31-12, MLRS, USSR, rank III. Premium.

Features:
  • Deadly heavy rockets
  • Lacks direct fire
  • Light protection
Unguided 300-mm M-30 rockets were used by the Red Army since 1942 as a field artillery, being fired from metal frames right in the transporting containers. Soon, an upgraded version of the rocket appeared under the designation M-31 with an improved engine and a significantly increased range. Engineers from the special design bureau of the Moscow Kompressor plant designed a combat vehicle on the chassis of the US-built Studebaker US6 three-axle truck with a framework of 12 welded rails to launch these powerful rockets. The machine was successfully tested in the spring of 1944 and was put into service in June under the designation BM-31-12. In the troops, by analogy with the Katyusha MLRS, the new vehicle was nicknamed Andryusha (“little Andrey” in Russian). Rocket launchers Andryusha were widely used in the battles of the final stages of WWII in Europe, including the urban battles as a fire support for Soviet storming troops. In total, the Red Army received 1,807 BM-31-12 Andryusha vehicles until the end of the war.

We are pleased to present to you the main prize of the upcoming special event, a collectable BM-31-12 Andryusha multiple launch rocket system, the younger brother of the legendary Katyusha.

The BM-31-12 was designed to fire the heavy M-31 300mm unguided rockets. Guidance and launch are carried out with a welded framework of 12 rails mounted on the chassis of the Studebaker military truck. Even with a full load of rockets, the vehicle moves very fast on paved roads and hard ground, which allows the commander to quickly change positions and reload. The crew of the BM-31-12 is only two people in the cabin, covered with very thin armor, so the BM-31-12 can’t survive any fire including machine-guns.

Like the Katyusha, the BM-31-12’s launcher is unable to fire directly, so commanders have to be smart in finding the right position to hit close targets: place the vehicle on hillsides, in gullies and pits, it is also recommended to learn suspension control. Shooting from BM-31-12 is also difficult because of the spread of the rockets and limited ammunition load... but what a pleasure it is to hit targets! Light vehicles and even medium tanks can be destroyed by close hits, heavy tanks and self-propelled guns will require a direct hit to kill. In any case, you are advised to shoot multiple rockets, so the chances of hitting are much higher.

Master this challenging, but very interesting machine: come up with new tactics, invent custom sights, make tables of fire in different locations according to enemy congestion areas and camper sites. In a couple of days, we will publish the full list of prizes and tasks of the upcoming event, in which you can get the rocket Andryusha to your hangar! Follow the news!

War Thunder - Blitzkrieg Wulf

In this digest we would like to tell you about our continuing work on improvements and fixes in the game. You can find information about all updates that have been released in War Thunder in the website special section.

Get back!

Numerous vehicles have a few reverse transmissions, and we’ve added automatic transmissions in War Thunder to make controlling them more comfortable. Turns out, it didn’t work exactly as intended and could get in the way of your hasty retreat from a dangerous position. When moving directly backwards, the Automatic Transmission worked correctly, but if you tried to turn your vehicle, it changed to the first reverse transmission gear! An issue with reverse movement also arose if the wheels of your vehicle were completely turned to one side.

Now automatic transmission uses all the power of your vehicle — in several cases the speed of turning in reverse increased up to two times!

Weigh up!

Many players in mid ranks try to max out suspended weaponry of their aircraft. We found a way to make it more comfortable for them!

Now each weapon in the editor of the suspended weaponry will display its weight — as will the entire preset. You’ll be able to compare your current weight against the maximum — or check how much you’ve exceeded the limit if you did. Have fun experimenting with different sets of explosive cargo!

Fly high!

We’ve noticed that the air-to-surface missile AGM-65 can’t reach its maximum range unless it’s launched from a very high altitude. The reason was simple: to reach that range, the missile has to loft, and it just couldn’t. Well, we taught it its signature move!

Now, AIM-54 actually could loft, but there was a catch: when pulling up, it could hit the aircraft it was launched from. We fixed that, and increased seeker warm-up angles and guidance equipment operational time.

Autopilot of the L-UMTAS and Mokopa missiles weren’t functioning well enough on short and very long distances. It happened because they worked in relay mode, when the fins were constantly being switched from minimum to maximum, and the flight trajectory was determined by the time they spent in each position. Now the autopilot works in proportional mode, and that allows it to follow the set trajectory more precisely.

Lastly, we’ve almost doubled the maximum permissible overload of 9M331, the missile of the Torus. All listed missiles have received improvements to their dynamics and autopilot. Use them well!

That’s Not All
You’ll find the full list of improvements in the separate changelog — there are many interesting things there. Weapon selector no longer prevents the camera from following the falling bombs or torpedoes, the position of the propeller of the aircraft now stays the same regardless of your point of view, and the parameters of dropping bombs now longer apply to other helicopter weaponry.

Once again, many thanks for all your bug reports that you submitted using our special service.

Update 2.25.1.83

Welcome to the third War Thunder Steam Community Spotlight!

Following on from the First War Thunder Community Spotlight, and Second War Thunder Community Spotlight, the War Thunder Steam Community Management team has continued looking at the community hub for War Thunder, and have yet again spotted some outstanding screenshots and artwork that our players have been creating! So once again, we’ve picked our favourites and thought that we'd share them with the rest of the Steam community. Take a look below.

    Let's begin!

To start off, an amazing drawing of a Panther tank, hand drawn with pencil on paper. The detail in this drawing is immaculate. Well done!

    "Panzerkampfwagen V "Panther" by Honey

Pixel art! These amazing animated pixel art of a Lancaster and Churchill rolling into Berlin were created by talented drawer "M777 155mm Towed Howitzer". We absolutely love the creativity, nice work.

"Lancaster" by M777 155mm Towed Howitzer

"ChurchHill VII" by M777 155mm Towed Howitzer

"Years later" featuring a BT-5 tank and modern T series tank. We like this screenshot, it captures the old, grey grainy cameras of the 40's, and the modern colour cameras of the next century. Well done.

    "years later." by Bailey

The drawing name DAKADKAKDKKADKA sums up this drawing perfectly - as the T-72M2 Moderna's 30mm auto cannon certainty packs and punch and makes this sound! We love this artwork, nice work!

An amazing model of the King Tiger H, which perfectly captures the details of this beast. The diorama base certaintainly makes it look more fearsome. Well done! (and yes, we also spotted the flying Ho 229 and Haunebu II in the background, they look awesome!)

    "Königstiger" drawing" by Pripyatnik

And, a regular Tiger H1 tank in the large 1:35 scale - compared to the background! XxCombatPug07xX_TTV says that they have not finished it yet, but it still looks great. We can't wait to see the end result!

    "1:35 Tiger 1 (UNPAINTED WIP)" by XxCombatPug07xX_TTV

TheRussianBadger's "Bajur" decor on the cupula - looking cute. A nice place for him to chill!

A very nice model of the Finnish BT-42, capturing the size of that turret. We also spotted the Girls und Panzer reference!

The ABSOLUTE (tiny)UNIT of the TKS here. We love this model in its natural habitat.

"TKS Tankietka 20mm" by Pan Więcek

An M2A2 Bradley paper model that looks like it could easily be a plastic model kit. This looks so cool, the details are fantastic. Real nice work!

"M2A2 Bradley. paper model" by CaptainTimo

Here we can observe an F-16A in its natural habitat. Super speedy, it will pass just about anything but a fuel station!

    "F-16A" by Strikerboi101

Recognise this? Could it be the next Bucolic Green Hills? For those who don't know, this is an awesome painting of part of the Campania (previously Italy) map. Nice work!

A beautiful piece of art for the beloved FV4005. For all the Bri'ish HESH enjoyers!

    "FV-4005" by Lewd-Tenant Isan

Another very good artistic shot by FULZY, capturing the Leopard 2A4 - very awesome. Nice work dude!

"Leopard 2A4 25th Infantry Brigade "György Klapka"" FULZY

    That's all for now!

The wonderful work created by our community that we have shared has been posted to the War Thunder Community Hub - make sure you check it out and even share your own creations. We look forward to seeing you next time!
