In this digest we would like to tell you about our continuing work on improvements and fixes in the game. You can find information about all updates that have been released in War Thunder on the website special section.

Lasers and Bombs

The most popular report we've been getting from you recently concerned laser designators on the Q-5L and Harrier Gr.7 attack aircraft. These aircraft had two sensors: one installed by default, and the second one on the targeting pod. The sensor on the nose of the aircraft is narrow-angle and cannot look backwards.

Due to an error, when using third person view, the sensor on the targeting pod was ignored in favor of the frontal sensor, and that caused laser designation to break when the aircraft passed over the target, rendering guided bombs useless.

Now the sensors work as intended — bombs away!

A Bit Less Chaos

Hull guns on ground vehicles function only within the confines of their targeting angles that are usually quite limited. So if your vehicle moves its turret to the side, hull guns can’t follow it and stop their firing.

Well, that’s what actually happened, but that’s not how it looked for everyone else. Other players saw your vehicle as shooting from all guns into multiple directions! No need for extra chaos on the battlefield: now hull guns will be silent outside of their targeting angles — both for you and for others.

Don’t Look Up!

This error was well known for a long time, but its cause kept evading us. Now its time has finally come!

The problem concerned naval battles: each swap between first person and third person views slightly shifted the sights upwards, making the shells fly farther. It won’t happen again: the sights will remain in place, and your shots will hit the mark!

That’s Not All

You can find the full list of improvements in a separate patch note, don’t forget to check it out! Sturmtiger had its gun elevation and horizontal targeting angles increased, SANTAL can now research “Airstrike” and “Improved optics” modifications, USS Gearing no longer gets an inflated number of torpedoes, and the helicopter gunner’s sight now always displays the correct distance.

Welcome to the first War Thunder Steam Community Spotlight!

The War Thunder Steam Community Management team has been looking at the community hub for War Thunder and have spotted some really creative posts from our community. We have picked our favourites and thought that we'd share them with the rest of the Steam community. So, do you love amazing, community produced, content? Then take a look below!

Let's begin!

Fighting on the virtual battlegrounds of War Thunder is really fun. However, have you ever wanted one of your favourite vehicles created in such a way so that you can proudly show it off on your table whilst you play the game? That's exactly what the player "Yar man" has done! They have created an amazing looking 1/35 sized T-90SM model. Proudly show that off, Yar Man! Fantastic work.

Tank models on your desk are awesome and bring out huge amounts of creativity, but what about creating your very own virtual 3D model from scratch? That's what the player "_Barking_Dogo_" has done! An outstanding recreated model M18, specifically the "Black Cat", with the finished result shown in the game camouflage. This is all shown in the GIF below, from start to finish. We love this!

"M18 "BlackCat" - Step-by-Step Creation" by _Barking_Dogo_ + M18 "BlackCat"

What's better than re-creating the exact model from in-game? That's exactly what the player "F-DOLL FAL" has done! They've recreated the MiG-21 SPS-K from the German tech tree in the size of 1/72, even with the same identification number. That's awesome work!

"1/72 MIG-21PFM "2202"" by F-DOLL FAL

The Maus is one of the most interesting and unique vehicles in War Thunder, and the player "Kvasnikov" has recreated it in Lego! Nice work!

"Lego Maus" by Kvasnikov

Incredible, is what this is! The player FULZY has smartly created the new to the game aircraft BV 155 B-1! This hybrid of screenshot/artwork looks great and we really like it. Nice work!

"BV 155 B-1" by FULZY

One of the best twin-engine aircraft of the second world war, the Mosquito, is featured here in a artistic style and we really like this. Well done, ༺¸𝖣𝖺𝗂𝖼𝗁𝗂 𝖴𝖼𝗁𝗂𝗁𝖺¸༻!

It's not Halloween just yet, but this screenshot certainly gives off Halloween vibes! This awesome and unique looking screenshot by the player "bert" certainty makes us feel spooked. Nice work, bert!

The Chi-Ha and Chi-Nu are great tanks for all players to enjoy. We know that the player 449138878 loves them! They drew this beautiful piece of art, which looks wonderful. Nice work!

With the release of our Danger Zone update, we introduced the F-14A! Well, this has probably inspired the player "Aiden Kim" to sketch this amazing looking art of Tom Cruise - Top Gun Maverick! It looks really nice, well done, Aiden Kim!

This Pz. Kpfw. IV Ausf. F2 model created by Pan Więcek is in its natural habitat! The weathering and other details looks brilliant here, we're a fan.

Many don't know that the WW2 British Comet was also used by the Finnish forces after the war! This amazing Photoshop drawing by Kamerad_Fritz really shows the harsh winter environment and is really well drawn. Nice!

Last but not least, an amazing pencil drawing of the D.520 and BF-109E in a vertical dogfight. This creativity really does make our imagination curious - who won the dogfight, who were the pilots? Nice work on this drawing!

War Thunder - CyberStonka

World War returns! Let’s talk about the news and improvements in the long-anticipated gaming mode, as well as share our future plans.

Read more about World War Mode

Inter Season
New World War format! Now, in addition to seasons, World War operations will be periodically launched as a regular game event. In such launches, we will be able to present new mechanics, scenarios of operations and missions, or conduct mass testing. Like in other gaming events, you can try something new for yourself or dive into the forgotten old goodness. In some cases, the launch might be timed to a significant historical event and supported by more valuable and unique rewards. In addition, the first in a day battle in World War mode will bring you the “First Battle” Battle Trophy, which contains boosters, wages, orders, universal back-ups and modifications to vehicles used in the battle, including the Talismans!

Second Battle of El Alamein: 80 years later
From November 17th (12:00 GMT) until November 21st (12:00 GMT) join the “Battle of El Alamein” operation of the World War and get a special decal!

November 1942 saw the end of what is believed to be the decisive battle in the North African theatre in World War II. British troops under the command of General Montgomery defeated the forces of Field Marshal Rommel, and an unstoppable retreat of the Axis forces began.

For this date, we have updated the “Second Battle of El Alamein” scenario in World War — the fixed set of vehicles in armies has been changed to groups of vehicles (the mechanics similar to the “Attack from the Sea” season).

Participants in the event will have a chance to receive a commemorative decal, the emblem of the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. To do this, you need to score 15,000 mission points in the battles of any operation you like. You are not required to be in a squadron and it is not necessary to play in the operations of your squadron as well.

Operations on different servers
The “server issues” were among the most notable complaints before, especially, high ping and packet loss in World War sessions. Many players assumed that this was due to the high load on the servers, but the reason was the choice of the server cluster for the created session. In the battles of the World War, a logic was used in which matchmaking automatically selected the appropriate cluster according to the players in the queue for this battle. The session cluster on the server was selected by which cluster there were more players in the queue. As a result, for example, at nighttime for Europe, many sessions were held on the servers of the North American region, since the majority of players were from there at that time.

Now, before creating an operation, squadron leaders must select appropriate clusters in a prioritised list. When an operation is created, the cluster with the highest rating from both leaders is selected and this cluster is assigned to the session, displayed in the upper right side of the operation screen. All battles created in this operation will start on the servers of this cluster.

New mechanics for finding, joining and returning to an operation
You probably know that World War mode can be played by non-squadron players, as well as not only for your squadron. Previously, any player might find a battle in the World War battle list and join it, then a player could stay in the operation or get back to the battle list and join another battle. First of all, this approach prevents the player experiencing immersion in the gaming mode, since they are unable to understand the plot, essence and importance of the situation. Secondly, a huge and clumsy battle list was difficult to browse and affected the infrastructure greatly. We decided to completely abandon the battle list.

Now, in the World War menu players will see an operation join buttons for each side. By clicking the button the game will try to find an appropriate operation with a player’s chosen options, including side and server list. After joining the operation it remains in the World War window and you’ll be able to return back to the operation by clicking the button “Back to [the number of operation]”. If you don’t like the operation. you can find a new one.

For squadron players there will be an active button “Join the [the number of battle]” if your squadron is currently involved in the World War operation.

Changes for squads
Playing in a “mercenary” squad that isn't a part of squadron was also difficult - squad members did not know what the leader was currently doing and in which battles they want to play. And when the leader found the right battle squad members immediately found themselves in a window to prepare for battle and couldn’t familiarise themselves with the operation. They only had to confirm their readiness and join the battle.

Now all squad members will see the leader’s operation instead of the “To Battle” button in the hangar and also additionally in the squad widget. Using these buttons will mean that you can easily and quickly get to the operation of your squad leader, discuss it and make some important decisions together. The presence of squad members in the operation automatically marks them as ready to participate in the operation’s battle - you will only have to confirm the readiness of the crews before entering battle (press the “Ready” button once instead of twice as before).

When the squad leader exits the World War operation the “To Battle” button and squad widget take on their usual appearance and you can play random battles again as before.

Vehicle research
Each World War mode operation involves two game nations and uses a limited vehicle list for each nation. For experienced players it is often the case that all these and surrounding vehicles are researched and the penalty of researching high ranked vehicles can discourage them from playing this mode. Since you can not choose what you are playing in World War mode we decided to remove the penalty for research on high-ranked vehicles in this game mode.

The War Thunder holiday party is at full blast, and we hope you already have your hands on some of the prizes. Breaking through the 10th anniversary milestone is a very important occasion for us, and we’d like to introduce another surprise for all of those who are celebrating with us and are close to getting the legendary Sturmtiger SPG. Get ready for “Imminent Breakthrough” to get a very special camo for your Sturmtiger!

From November 10th (11:00 GMT) until November 16th (11:00 GMT), achieve 3 victories in the Imminent Breakthrough special mission to get the Late tricolor spotted MHN scheme “Hinterhalt-Tarnung” camo for the 38cm Sturmmörser.

Imminent Breakthrough is a co-op PvE-mission, where you are tasked to fight off the enemy breakthrough using various weapons, including some unique ones! The Sturmtiger self-propelled assault gun, the Goliath tracked mine, PaK 40 anti-tank cannon, Flak 36 stationary AA-gun, as well as legendary piston-engined fighters Fw 190 and Bf 109 — everything is an asset to victory!

    Sturmtiger

The Sturmtiger self-propelled assault gun was designed to destroy buildings and fortifications, but its deadly 380mm rockets with 135 kg TNT warheads add nothing to the chances of any vehicle on the battlefield.

Victory loves preparation: due to an extremely long reload time the Sturmtiger must take care of every shot. But in the Imminent Breakthrough mission you won’t have to wait for each round, as at any time you may switch to another vehicle, either stationary or not. How do you like one of the first combat drones ever created?

    Goliath tracked mine

Meet the Goliath - a tracked, remotely controlled anti-tank charge! Its armor won’t stop any tank shots, but its small size allows the Goliath to deliver deadly explosives unnoticed.

Switch to the controls of the tracked mine by pressing a dedicated button - it is displayed on your action bar. You may remotely control your Goliath mine, switch back to the Sturmtiger controls, or detonate the mine - pretty much the same as unmanned aerial vehicles, recently added to War Thunder.

Although the mine drone’s speed is not high so you'll probably want to deliver a hit faster? Then meet the artillery!

    7.5cm PaK 40 anti-tank cannon

The most common German anti-tank cannon of WWII. Its shells were capable of hitting almost all Allied tanks. However powerful shots forced it to dig into the ground.

Switching to the cannon is available at any time if there is at least one battle ready and unoccupied cannon uncontrolled by other players. Controls are no different from the ground vehicles you used in the past with only one exception that the cannon can not be moved - it is a stationary firing point. Since it can not be rotated it can only control the area that is in its field of view. Because of that it is especially important to choose the right moment to switch to the PaK 40.

If the cannon is destroyed - no problem, you will return to the “Sturmtiger” control and after some time the cannon will recover and will be available again and with full ammunition..

    FlaK 36 3.7cm anti-aircraft autocannon

Allied aircraft dominate the air and you must defend your ground vehicles with all your might! The familiar Sd.Kfz. 6/2 FlaK 36 autocannon will help you with that - this time in a stationary version.

Switching to the anti-aircraft cannon and using it is completely identical to controlling an anti-tank cannon.

    Fw 190 and Bf 109

Two legendary aircraft of the Luftwaffe - the familiar Gustav and Foks are available to fight air and ground targets. The usual mechanics of aircraft events from ground AB battles await you, only the requirements for the flight out are slightly different. You get the right to fly the Fw 190 F-8 with a bomb load for every 8 destroyed enemies and for the Fw 190 A / Bf 109 G without bomb load you need to destroy 3 enemies.

    Terms
    • You can find the event in the “Events and Tournaments” tab and it is available from 11:00 GMT on the 10th of November until 11:00 GMT on the 16th of November.
    • To participate in the event you must have a 38 cm Sturmmörser in the hangar.
    • To win in the mission you need to destroy all enemy ground forces in the allotted time.
    • Win in 3 missions in the event to receive the “Late tricolor spotted MHN scheme “Hinterhalt-Tarnung”” for the 38cm Sturmmörser.
    • Camouflage will be credited to the account immediately upon receipt (not as a coupon).
    • You can track your progress of the reward by clicking on your nickname and selecting the menu “Achievements → Imminent Breakthrough”.
