There’s something for everyone, whether you prefer ships, tanks, or aircraft!

War Thunder - Blitzkrieg Wulf

We keep on working on improvements and fixes for War Thunder, and in this digest we’d like to tell you about the most prominent recent changes to the game.

Laser Aiming

We listen closely to the feedback you leave us. Thanks to your comments we’ve added a new feature to several SPAAGs: from SIDAM 25 to M247. Now the range measured with the laser rangefinder will be automatically input into your sights. Aim with comfort!

Leopard, Behave!

Another fix we’ve made thanks to your feedback is related to the medium tank, the Leopard 2K. When its machine gun ammunition was hit, it did not disappear. That was an error, and we’ve fixed it.

Reworked decals

The “decals” tab in the player profile has been radically reworked. Now you can find all the necessary information and possible actions in a single window. You can check out the preview and description of the decal and learn of a way to earn it. decals that you haven’t received yet are now shown in full colour, but with a lock icon: in their case you can start tracking the unlock progress, or just purchase them outright. For the decals that you already have you’ll find an option to apply them to a selected vehicle in the hangar, for the collectable ones — to check out the collections, and for marketable ones — to search and activate a coupon. Everything you ever wanted, all in one place.

Since all the features related to decals are now available in the player profile, we will soon remove the decals from the “Achievements” menu.

That’s Not All

We are continuing to work on improving War Thunder. The blowout panels have been fixed for even more tanks, the achievement comparison button now works properly, and in VR the weapons lock indicator is no longer tied to the head movements.

War Thunder - magazine2

The USS Alaska is the lead ship of an American large cruiser class of warships, developed in the 1930s. Soon, captains in War Thunder can look forward to the arrival of USS Alaska as the first battlecruiser to join the ranks of the U.S. Navy as part of the next major update!

Briefly: A unique American warship design, combining the capabilities of a cruiser with the size and firepower of a battleship.

USS Alaska (CB-1), battlecruiser, USA, Rank V

Features:
  • Powerful 12 inch guns
  • Good mobility
  • Catapult aircraft
  • Superb AA artillery

In War Thunder, USS Alaska will be the first battlecruiser to join the ranks of the U.S. Navy following the release of the next major update. Reinforcing the top rank of the American bluewater naval tree in the game, USS Alaska offers its aspiring captains an excellent combination of firepower and mobility while boasting stronger protection than regular cruisers. Sounds interesting so far? Then, let’s get into more detail!

Unlike typical cruiser vessels that American captains may have gotten accustomed to so far, USS Alaska doesn’t come fitted with 6’’ or even 8’’ guns, but rather imposing 12’’ (305 mm) cannons - and nine of them in that! USS Alaska has heavier AP rounds (517 kg) than other ships with the same caliber, although the velocity of the round is lower. The HE round is lighter (426 kg) and offers better muzzle velocity of up to 808 m/s.

However, this isn’t all USS Alaska has to offer - far from it! Apart from the powerful main battery cannons, the warship also comes fitted with six twin 5’’ (127 mm) dual purpose cannons - a weapon which should be well familiar to most captains accustomed to bluewater vessels. The ship’s arsenal is further augmented by a total of 56 40mm Bofors cannons split between 14 quadruple turrets as well as 34 single 20 mm Oerlikon cannons. With such a vast array of secondary weapons, USS Alaska maintains a high degree of versatility, allowing it to both engage in intense gun duels with hostile surface targets or alternatively support their allies with effective anti-air cover.

Fun fact: Being conceived as an ‘in-between’ type of vessel between cruisers and battleships is also reflected in the nomenclature of the Alaska-class as the ships were named after U.S. territories rather than states or cities as is the case with battleships and cruisers, respectively.

While USS Alaska can certainly boast near battleship levels of firepower, the same cannot be said about its protection. Namely, USS Alaska’s belt armor only measures up to 229 mm in thickness while the turret faces feature up to 325 mm of armor plating. While this does provide USS Alaska with effective protection from gun fire up to 11’’ in caliber, it remains rather vulnerable to incoming fire from more heavily armed battleships. Furthermore, comparatively poor dedicated anti-torpedo protection makes USS Alaska extremely susceptible to this weapon type.

On the other hand, USS Alaska’s machinery is capable of generating 153,000 horsepower, thus resulting in a top speed of 33 kts (61 km/h). Therefore, captains can utilize the ship’s superior speed to outrun slower opponents or reposition themselves to a more advantageous combat position. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that the ship’s relatively long hull, coupled with a single rudder results in a relatively wide turning circle. As such, captains are best advised to avoid confined fighting grounds and initiate aggressive maneuvers as early as possible.

As its first battlecruiser, USS Alaska is arriving in the top ranks of the American bluewater naval tree as part of the next major update and will soon become available to all captains who fancy taking command of this impressive warship. In the meantime, make sure to stay tuned to the news in order to stay in the loop on all the latest developments surrounding the upcoming update. Until then, calm seas and happy hunting captains!

Experimental Chinese tank wielding a 120mm smooth-bore gun and four ATGMs comes to the game as a new squadron vehicle!

With the release of the next major update, squadron activity points will be automatically distributed to the player selected squadron vehicles when they are allocated (like regular Research Points), and you will no longer have to do this manually on every occasion.

Object 122MT, medium tank, China, rank VI. Squadron vehicle.

    Features:
    • Smooth-bore 120mm main gun
    • Four ATGM launchers on the turret
    • Good mobility

The experimental Chinese medium tank Object 122MT is a new squadron vehicle for all War Thunder players. This is a classic layout tank with a cast domed turret and a Chinese-made 120-mm cannon. The vehicle features four launchers for anti-tank guided missiles, which may be used in battles not only against armored vehicles, but also against enemy helicopters. The gun itself has a fairly good flatness and is equipped with a stabilizer and night vision device in the gunner's sight. At the commander's disposal there are two types of armor-piercing fin-stabilized rounds, as well as high-explosive and shape-charged rounds. The tank has a good maximum speed, but most importantly, a high power-to-weight ratio. Coupled with a good turret traverse speed, this makes it an excellent close quarter duelist!

The Object 122MT will become a rank VI tank in the Chinese armored vehicle tech tree. It can definitely be recommended for tank assaults and urban battles, however, guided missiles and APFSDS shells will be very useful at long range shootouts. The tank doesn’t have any anti-HEAT protection and is very vulnerable to ATGMs and enemy HEAT rounds, however, a domed cast turret can sometimes protect against some kinetic projectiles.

Any soldier or officer in War Thunder squadrons can get the excellent high-rank Object 122MT for squadron activity points; players who are not members of squadrons yet will be able to purchase the vehicle for Golden Eagles. The first Chinese squadron tank in the game will never let you down!

    War Thunder - Blitzkrieg Wulf

In this digest we would like to tell you about our continuing work on improvements and fixes in the game. You can find information about all updates that have been released in War Thunder in the website special section.

Keep track of the machine guns ammunition on the tanks

How much ammo is left in your machine gun? Now you will know it because we have added an ammunition indicator for ground vehicle machine guns. Above the shells icons you will see a bar that visually shows how much ammo you have left because it is useful to be able to gauge how much ammo you still have left to use. This bar will also come in handy when the ammo is nearing the end: it will show the progress of reloading. The number of remaining machine gun belts will be shown separately.

Coaxial machine guns are combined into one interface element and the anti-aircraft machine gun is displayed separately from them. Well, if you don’t like this new feature for some reason you can easily disable it in the settings.

    Blowout panels have been normalised

Imagine the situation: the turret is rotated perpendicular to the hull, the ammo rack in the rear cavity caught fire, the blowout panels go off. And somehow the fire spreads over the engine module and other modules. How can it come to this?

It was a mistake that affected Leopards, Leclercs and a number of other vehicles. We have fixed it - no more unnecessary fires will occur.

Fixed the reload times for ships

On large ships we spotted a discrepancy: the crew card promised one time to reload main calibre guns but it actually turned out to be different! No more misinformation: the cannon reload times on the vehicle cards now match those in the battles. Everything is strictly according to the protocol!

    That’s Not All

We are continuing to work on improving War Thunder. The pilot’s helmet visor will be properly reflected in the cockpit mirrors, the flames from the spigots will be visible even when the vertical sync is enabled and we have also fixed a few bugs related to the custom weaponry presets.
