We are working on the upcoming major update “Direct Hit” and next start of the Open DEV server which will take place on the 1st of September. That’s why there are not many fixes this time, but it is still important for many players.

Fixing the opaque sight

The glass of the gunsight in the cockpit of your aircraft could become opaque if you disable the sight function (yes, you can do that). The problem affected quite a lot of vehicles: AV-8A, AV-8C, Harrier GR.1, Harrier GR.3, F-4E Phantom II, F-4EJ Phantom II, F-4F Early, F-4F, Phantom FG.1, Phantom FGR.2, Su-17M2, Jaguar A, Jaguar GR.1, F-5E, A-7D.



Fixed. The glass no longer fills with solid color and you can now use the option to remove the rectile when you don’t need it, for example to improve visibility.

Recycling Defective Nuclear Weapons

Only the best of the best can collect the necessary amount of points needed to fly out with an aircraft with nuclear weaponry and end the battle with a victory for their own team by pushing just one button! But due to a strange error the nuclear alarm siren didn’t go off and the dropped bomb didn’t detonate.



This is very frustrating after overcoming so many difficulties, so we rushed to correct the error. Bomb confidently.

Fixed several client errors

One of them could have occurred in spectator mode in the aircraft AB and crash the game client. The other one could occur at the moment of exiting the game without any reason.



They will not bother you again. Thank you for letting us know about these problems!

  • A probable issue with the error message after quitting the game client has been fixed.
  • A bug has been fixed that could lead to a crash when in the spectator mode in the Arcade battles.

  • Pe-2-31, Pe-2-83, Pe-2-110, Pe-2-359 — ammo capacity of the ShKAS machine gun has been changed from 450 to 430.
  • AH-1S (early) — radar warning system has been added (report).

  • Fairmile C (312) — start battle camera position has been corrected (previously was turned to stern); maximum ammo capacity of the 40mm guns in battle has been changed (report).
  • HMAS Tobruk - the year of ship modification has been changed to 1950.

USS Pittsburgh is an American heavy cruiser of the Baltimore-class which entered service with the U.S. Navy in the final years of WWII. Inheriting the class’ signature combination of firepower, protection and mobility, USS Pittsburgh is arriving to War Thunder naval forces as the new top American cruiser with the next major update!

In War Thunder, USS Pittsburgh will be a new heavy cruiser arriving to the top ranks of the American naval tree with the release of the next major update “Direct hit”. Coming to the game in its 1953 Cold War refit, USS Pittsburgh promises its captains a considerable upgrade to heavy anti-air firepower over previous vessels and as such will also rightfully take the place of the new top American cruiser at rank V!





USS Pittsburgh is scheduled to dock at the top of the American cruiser line with the arrival of the next major update for War Thunder.   • Missile characteristics have been adjusted to the values described in our recent news article regarding changes to the dynamic characteristics of missiles (link). MLRS sighting grids are temporarily displaying incorrect aiming angles.
Changes in the aircraft RB
  • The number of possible combinations for nations participating in one battle has been increased (new mixed sets of nations have been added).
This change is experimental, and after gathering relevant statistics, we may disable any unbalanced sets.

In War Thunder we are always eager to simulate the characteristics of military equipment with the highest possible accuracy using all sources available. However, over time, new information often appears, which in some ways may contradict original sources, so it is not surprising that when such information is received, characteristics of vehicles and weapons are getting specified. Additionally, the digitization of modeling for certain systems may increase, which require additional checks and refinements. In this case, the combat capabilities of parts of weapons may change quite significantly. Here is just such a case, and we want to highlight and explain the planned changes in as much detail as possible, while at the same time cite the sources used in this work. We will also publish detailed characteristics for all missiles, which will allow us to additionally check the game data and compare them with the documentary base.

In the upcoming update, we will specify the dynamic characteristics of missiles, which will primarily affect the SACLOS/MCLOS ATGM and SAM. In order to correct the modeling of the flight and thrust capabilities of missiles, we have specified data such as: the mass in flight, the initial velocity (the speed of launch from the missile tube/container or from the barrel for tank guided missiles), the mass of solid propellant rocket fuel and its consumption in different operating modes, as well as the engine operation time at different modes. The drag coefficient was specified to adjust the flight time at various distances based on relevant data, as well as data on speed at different parts along the trajectory. Also, for some missiles, parameters of explosive power and armor penetration of the warhead were adjusted.

Above mentioned adjustments will be introduced to the game in one of the upcoming updates, but you’re able to learn the changes now from the spreadsheet prepared.

The Avro Shackleton is a long-range, multipurpose maritime patrol aircraft, built as a counter to the increasing threat of Soviet submarines in the early days of the Cold War. All War Thunder pilots and fans of British aviation may look forward to having the chance to pilot the beautiful Shackleton, coming to the game with the update “Direct hit”!

In War Thunder, the Avro Shackleton will become available to all players with the release of update “Direct hit” in the later Mk.2 version. At first glance, players may already notice some of the legacy design solutions that got carried over to the Shackleton from the Lincoln; such as the wings, engine nacelles and dorsal turret. A unique characteristic of the Shackleton is its powerplant choice. Namely, it’s the only British piston-engine aircraft of its size powered by the Rolls-Royce Griffon 57 engine, and four of them at that! Furthermore, the designers also fitted the Shackleton with two contra-rotating propellers for each engine in order to effectively deal with engine torque. Admit it, it also looks nice, doesn’t it?





The new Avro Shackleton will become available to all War Thunder pilots as two new bombers of the higher ranks of the British aviation tree, coming to the game as part of the “Direct Hit” update.   • A bug has been fixed due to which disabling of the ‘first gun; of the ship resulted in disabling of the ranging shot option.
  • A position of a sound of an aircraft, exceeding Mach1, no longer depends on its distance from a listener and doesn’t attributed to the aircraft position.
Changes to Enduring Confrontation missions in Simulator Battles
  • In aircraft and helicopter EC missions, the mechanics of forced session leaving (kicking) for inactivity has been reworked. A player may be kicked from session for 300 seconds of inactivity in total during the mission, not only with the first respawn. The abandonment timer now works as follows:
    • If the player is in the air or is on the airfield and the vehicle is under repair, or is on the airfield at a speed faster than repair time, the abandonment timer will be reset (will be set to maximum);
    • If the player is on the ground outside the airfield, or is on the airfield at a speed equal to the repair time but will not be serviced (repaired, reloaded or refueled) then the abandonment timer will be activated.
  • In aviation SB battles, the mechanics of choosing the gaming nation in custom battles has been changed. Players will have a choice from pre-set nation pairs for both teams.

In the next big War Thunder update “Direct Hit”, SAAB JA37 Jaktviggen will become the new top tier Swedish fighter aircraft at rank VII, after J35D Draken. The flight qualities of the new fighter can really surprise - with a maximum speed of more than Mach 1,8 and a truly rocket-like rate of climb (about 200 meters per second), the JA37 is superbly controlled over the entire range of altitudes and speeds! The fighter's unusual airframe design, efficient flaps and air brakes allow her to make quick turns with very good roll speed. The maneuverability of the JA37 can be compared to the maneuverability of a good piston fighter - only at supersonic speeds!

The JA37 version was developed to fulfill the tasks of a fighter-interceptor, so the main emphasis in the weapons list is placed on those for destroying air targets. There is a good rapid-firing 30-mm cannon on board, albeit with a small amount of ammunition. Among the guided weapons there are already familiar to Swedish pilots RB24 and RB24J air-to-air missiles with infrared seeker, as well as a completely new RB71 with radar guidance, a huge launch range and G-tolerance of about 30G. As for ground targets, Jaktviggen can take only m/70 rockets. Being very good at destroying tanks, these rockets however require an accurate hit.

An excellent fighter bomber aircraft in the Soviet tech tree and a new type of smart weapons are coming to War Thunder!

The MiG-27M is a top attack aircraft in the USSR aviation research tree and one of the few attack aircraft with a maximum speed of Mach 1,8. At the time of its appearance in the game, the MiG-27M will become one of the leaders in terms of the number of available sets of suspended weapons. In addition, with the appearance of this aircraft in War Thunder, we will introduce a new type of aircraft weapons - guided aircraft bombs units, or GBUs. But first things first.

The MiG-27M is a further development of the MiG-23M, already familiar to War Thunder pilots. Despite the increased load and general adaptation of the airframe and theengine for more confident operation at low altitudes and subsonic speeds, the MiG-27M quite confidently accelerates to a maximum speed of Mach 1,8, while maintaining excellent climb rate. A variable sweep wing and an effective air brake make the heavy and powerful MiG-27M a very maneuverable aircraft in its class.

Along with an abundance of new vehicles and features, the next major War Thunder update will also introduce two new locations for combined battles as well as an updated test drive environment for tankers. Today we would like to tell you more about these so let’s dive right into the details!
New Locations

In the next major update “Direct hit” arriving to War Thunder we look forward to further expanding the number of battlefields for players to engage in heated skirmishes on by introducing two new locations for combined battles. Tankers, welcome ‘Breslau’ and ‘Spaceport’ to the map rotation!

Spaceport



Spaceport is another new combined battle map awaiting players in the upcoming update. While also featuring some urban combat, Spaceport offers more open fighting grounds surrounding the confined city center.

Players who took part in the April Fools event ‘Warfare 2077’ may recall already battling it out on Spaceport. Those players who missed this opportunity won’t have to wait long for a second chance, however. Spaceport will become available in the regular map rotation with the arrival of the next major War Thunder update!



Breslau



Breslau is a new combined battles map, focused on urban combat. The location is inspired by the Siege of Breslau (Wrocław) which took place in the final months of WWII. While focused around intense close-quarter engagements for the most part, Breslau’s northern area is home to a more open battleground, ideally suited for nimble light vehicles to outflank their opponents or scout enemy positions.

On the other hand, the southern end of the map offers plenty of opportunities for brawlers to duke it out in head-on street battles while the occasional town square or park with its wide open space will enable tank commanders to more freely maneuver and potentially break a stalemate.



Updated Test Drive



For some time now, tankers recall Kursk not only as a battleground, but also as the place where they give ground vehicles their first proper look outside the hangar. However, while Kursk was home to the largest tank battle in history, we believe that it didn’t do as good of a job of being a suitable proving ground in the game. That being said, we’ve decided to update the test drive for ground vehicles with a new location which gives tankers a much better environment to more thoroughly put their vehicle through its paces.



Unlike Kursk, the new test drive location is a lot more diverse. It features different terrain types, such as mud and paved roads, and also has more dynamic elevation while at the same time retaining the familiar dummy targets for shooting practice. As a result, tankers will be able to get a much better grasp of their vehicle’s performance under different conditions; for example how fast it accelerates on paved roads or how quickly it can get up a steep hill, or learn its vertical aiming angles. Also, aircraft AI targets are now available for all ground vehicle classes, not only SPAAGs. Eager to give it a shot already? The new test drive location will become available as part of the upcoming update, arriving soon to War Thunder!
