This new experimental fighter in the Soviet tech tree is particularly effective at high-altitude battles.

The experimental high-altitude fighter/interceptor I-225 was created in the Mikoyan design bureau as part of work to develop new prototypes of fighter aircraft with new engines. The first experimental prototype was finished by May 9, 1944. The aircraft was designed to carry a powertrain consisting of a 2000 horsepower aircraft engine and a turbocharger. Its armament in comparison with previous prototypes was strengthened and consisted of four 20mm ShVAK cannons. In testing (primarily tests of the fighter’s speed and altitude options) the aircraft showed impressive results: it could reach a speed of almost 560 km/h near the ground and 720 km/h at high altitude. Just two I-225s were built for testing purposes. For various reasons, both aircraft crashed in testing. After a range of improvements and upgrades, in March 1947 work on this project was stopped.

The I-225 will be added to the game with the release of War Thunder 1.81 The Valkyries. Be sure to check out this wonderful fighter and try it out in battle!

A top-tier light armoured vehicle for British tankers – the Warrior IFV with its multipurpose 30 mm cannon and MILAN ATGM

The FV510 infantry fighting vehicle was developed as part of a program to create a modern IFV for the British army at the end of the 70’s. The vehicle went into series production in 1986. The vehicle was equipped with 30 mm gun, fed by magazines of three shells each. This gun was designed to destroy lightly armoured vehicles with maximum accuracy. For the Desert Storm operation, the Warriors were equipped with Chobham passive armour – add-on armour plates that significantly improved the IFV’s defense in battle, allowing it to survive a hit from an RPG-7 grenade and shrapnel from high-calibre HE rounds. A little later, in 1990, the military decided to equip the Warrior with anti-tank weaponry – a 30 mm gun for these targets was clearly not enough. The roof of the turret was equipped with a launcher for the MILAN ATGM. The commander used a hatch to fire the ATGM, and it was reloaded through the upper hatch of the armoured vehicle’s infantry compartment. The FV510 Warrior is still in service with the British army and is the main IFV of the United Kingdom.

The Warrior is an excellent companion for main battle tanks in top-tier battles. Its main value is in its universality – it has a sufficiently rapid-firing gun for shooting at airborne targets (especially helicopters), and at the same time is also armed with ATGM’s like the Striker to engage tanks.

The AH-1Z Viper is the most modern version of the twin-engine Cobra, developed as a replacement for older models in the early 2000s. American aviators and helicopter enthusiasts will have the chance to pilot the Viper in War Thunder with the release of update 1.81 “The Valkyries”!

Briefly: The latest and most modern member of the AH-1 family of attack helicopters, featuring improved mobility and protection, whilst staying as deadly as ever thanks to its ordnance options.

In 1996, the USMC launched the H-1 program in cooperation with the Bell company. The H-1 program was a plan to upgrade and modernize the Navy’s existing fleets of AH-1 and UH-1 helicopters, in order to extend their service life and lower future operating costs. This was achieved by developing a new version of each helicopter model respectively. The new AH-1Z Viper, also known as “ZuluCobra”, received upgraded avionics, fire control systems, engines and an improved four-blade rotor system, among other improvements. Furthermore, both the new Viper and UH-1Y were designed in a way to use mostly identical parts, achieving the desired reduction in operating costs and ease of maintenance as a result. The AH-1Z Viper conducted its maiden flight in December 2000, with three prototypes being built for testing in 2002. Small-scale production began in 2003 before the Viper was approved for full-scale production in November 2010. The USMC has ordered for 189 Vipers to be delivered to the fleet by 2021, with only a few dozen machines being in service today.

Be sure to try out the most modern, and arguably most lethal, modification of the AH-1 ever produced in War Thunder update 1.81 “The Valkyries”. Until then, clear skies and good hunting pilots!

The Mi-35M is a modern utility combat helicopter of the Russian army, the modernized legacy of the iconic “Hind”.

The Mi-35M is a modern utility combat helicopter of the Russian army, manufactured by Rostvertol helicopter company. At the moment, the Mi-35M is the most modern modification of the Mi-24 series. During its versatile service in Afghanistan, India, and other locations, the “Hind” performed well, but had few vital flaws. A modernized version, titled Mi-35, underwent specific improvements. The helicopter gained new more powerful engines, the metal rotor was replaced by a composite one, the 3-bladed anti-torque rotor was replaced by an X-shaped composite one. The Mi-35M was given fixed landing gear, and new shorter wings with only four weapony mounting points. The weapon itself has also been updated: A 4-barreled 50.cal machine gun in the chin-mounted rotating turret is now replaced by a twin-barreled 23-mm GSh-23L auto cannon. Mounted weaponry now consists of two types of ATGMs, modern air-to-ground unguided rockets, 23mm cannon pods, and other changes. The Mi-35M is currently in service in the Russian Air Forces, and other nations. Russian and Iraqi Mi-35M-s fought in recent actions in Syria.

The Mi-35M in Russian Air Forces camo waits your command in War Thunder update 1.81 “The Valkyries”. See you there!

The new Soviet infantry combat vehicle was designed with consideration for the strengths and weaknesses of its predecessor, the BMP-1.

The arrival of the BMP-1 infantry combat vehicle in the Soviet Army greatly increased the firepower and mobility of infantry formations on the battlefield. However, there were also significant shortcomings, mainly in the armament department. The 73mm Grom gun, which was installed on the BMP-1 wasn't particularly efficient against infantry units, tanks and low flying air targets. In addition to this, the flight of the trajectory became impossible to predict if even a small crosswind was present. To account for these issues, a decision was made to create a new vehicle based on the BMP-1 with the automatic rifled gun. Among the several projects carried out, the vehicle designed by Kurganmashzavod engineers was acknowledged to be superior to the rest. The BMP-2, which was put into service in 1977, had a similar design to the BMP-1 in terms of the layout and general configuration. However, the turret underwent significant changes. It now had space for two crew members – the gunner and the commander, and the automatic 30mm 2A42 gun became its primary armament. Just like its predecessor, the BMP-2 was fitted with a launcher capable of firing either the Konkurs or Fagot anti-tank guided missiles, which the vehicle could deploy when engaging tank units. The vehicle was regarded as fairly successful, and over the years of its service, the BMP-2 underwent a series of modernizations and modifications directed at improving the vehicle’s defenses and increasing its destructive capability. The BMP-2 remains in service till now and is in great demand abroad.

In War Thunder 1.81, we present the base version of the BMP-2 with the 30mm gun and the Konkurs ATGMs. In combat, this vehicle will make an excellent choice as a support tank: the unit’s primary armament can penetrate the sides or other weak areas of the majority of the Western light armored tanks and combat vehicles. Thanks to its high rate of fire, the 30mm gun can easily take down helicopters, while the Konkurs ATGMs are noticeably more effective when compared to the BMP-1’s Malyutkas and will allow players to target the bulkiest units on the opposing team. Besides, the vehicle possesses great acceleration dynamics and is, of course, amphibious – something that creative commanders can take advantage of. All in all, you should definitely have the BMP-2 in your set for high-rank battles – this versatile vehicle will prove to be effective in many various combat situations!
