“Assault” that’s the name of the new game mode, PVE-battles in the skies and on the ground against superior enemy numbers.

“Assault” mode missions will be available for all vehicles of all ranks and nations.

You may participate on your own or bring a squad of friends. Up to 8 players may take part in one battle, they may choose any vehicle of any nation. All vehicles in all slots participate in this battle (up to 11 machines, or even more if you have back-ups), battle rank is defined by the vehicle with the highest Battle Rating. In the ground battles of “Assault” mode, players will also have an opportunity to use attackers or bombers as in Arcade battles, as well as up to 3 artillery strikes if the module is researched.

During each task in “Assault” mode the players will face waves of the AI controlled enemies, every consequent wave will be stronger than the previous one and the rank of the vehicles is defined by the BR of the players’ vehicles - e.g. pre-war machines will not face cold war tanks. The battle is won after the last enemy vehicle in the last wave is destroyed.

Rewards for destroying AI opponents are calculated individually for every player, depending on the time spent in a battle, final results and of course the efficiency of the player. Boosters do not apply in these battles and destroyed AI vehicles do not count towards the content unlocking progress (such as skins, decals. etc.)

A player will receive a personal RP or SL booster for participating in the first “Assault” battle every day, the more efficient a player was in battle the better the booster he will get.

“Assault” is perfect for starting a gaming day in War Thunder! You may “warm up” a little while destroying bots before you join battles against real players or you may find a friend for a squad and get some nice booster which will may come in handy in random battles.
The new “Assault” mode waits for you in War Thunder update 1.67 named... Assault!

See you on the battlefield!

Attention, pilots and tank commanders! We are pleased to present a new location for mixed battles that we have prepared for War Thunder update 1.67: The Ardennes!

December 1944. The mountain town of Bastogne, which is being held by American troopers, has become a serious obstacle to the advance of Hitler’s troops into Belgium. This ancient town is where all of the main roads through the Ardennes mountains meet. The German army is not stopping – the cost of delaying the assault on Antwerp is too high. However, the besieged Americans are determined to wait for General Patton’s tanks to break through the line and provide reinforcements. “Us surrender? Aw, nuts!”

The Battle of the Bulge became one of the main events of Allied combat operations during World War II. We invite you to the outskirts of Bastogne, the first major stage of the Battle of the Bulge. Here, the fate of the Western Front as a whole will be decided on cobblestone streets and hilly terrain surrounding the town. We have tried to recreate the early winter color palette of the Ardennes and the ancient Belgian town on which the main events of the battle will take place. The hills will allow fire support vehicles and scouts to occupy tactical positions without being noticed, and the tanks assaulting the town will meet in Bastogne and vie for strategically important points. Pilots will have to carefully select directions for their bombing runs and assault strikes along the town’s narrow streets and keep track not only of enemy fighters, but also anti-air guns that could strike from the countless hiding spots in this mountainous location.

We are happy to present a top tier experimental tank destroyer - the FV4005 Stage II with a 183mm gun, which was a modified version of the BL 7.2inch howitzer. The FV4005 was manufactured as a single prototype that underwent test trials and was based on the Centurion hull with a massive turret with a very thin layer of armoured protection and massive rear overhang to provide necessary ammunition storage.

The project started in the early 1950s with an early attempt of up-gunned version that housed 183mm weapon with an automatic loader in a limited-traverse turret, so called FV4005 Stage 1. Both versions were very close in design to the FV4004 Conway that was designed as a stop gap to fight the Soviet IS-3 tanks. The Stage 2 prototype was powered by the Rolls-Royce Meteor engine, with a maximum of 650 horsepower. The tank was able to reach 18 mph (29 km/h) on flat terrain such as road surfaces. In the 1957, the tank destroyer was canceled due to it being deemed an unnecessary and dead-end project.
