Hello friends! We have great news for you, but you’ll need to train to prepare yourselves.
You may ask, “What’s so great about this news?” Well, you’re going to have to develop new tactics for your style of play, because we have prepared for you a number of possible game modes for both pilots and tankers!
So, without further ado, let us introduce the modes...
[Defense] Stalingrad and Mozdok
Already clear from the name! It’s a game mode for ground vehicles. One team needs to defend and prevent any capture of the point which is already controlled by the defending team from the beginning. The other team needs to make every effort to capture the point. However in all new game modes, some common objectives do continue to exist - you can destroy the enemy team so that no one can defend or capture the point. Simple and clear.
In the testing phase, you will be able to choose the roles of the teams. In type “Defense 1”, the defending team will be “A”, in the type “Defense 2” the defending team will be “B”.
Both teams will respawn at some distance from the point, but the defense team respawns closer and thus gets a head start in order to take up defensive positions.
[Cover] Norway
This is a game mode for pilots, which may already be known by those pilots who compete in historical events. It will be presented in three types. In “Cover 1” and “Cover 2”, one of the teams will receive an order to track and cover AI bombers on the way to a target which belongs to second team. The other team should prevent a successful bombing of its own zone and intercept and destroy as many of the enemy bombers as possible.
The third type “Convoy: Head-on Course” both teams perform these roles simultaneously: engage and support their AI bombers and at the same time, intercept the enemy.
[Ground Strike] Fiery Arc
It’s a new “Ground Strike” for pilots in two types: “1” and “2”. The main difference between this new mode from the old one: AI ground vehicles are now only in one team. There are many more ground targets now and some of them can only be destroyed by well armed attackers or bombers. Your tasks are clear: one team needs to cover ground targets, the other - complete destruction.
The completion of mission tasks is the direct way to victory and now we will have far more of these tasks in War Thunder.

Excellent news for fans of German aviation: one of War Thunder’s old timers, the He 111H-6 bomber is receiving an updated model! In addition, we’ve fixed a range of bugs that were present in the old model.
The German Heinkel He 111H-6 bomber is a true old timer in War Thunder – this aircraft was among the first to arrive in our game. As you already know from our Developer Diaries, work on upgrading old vehicle models takes an important place in the list of our artists’ and modelers’ responsibilities. In update 1.61 Road to Glory, the German bomber will receive an updated model and texture, which includes the removal of various drawbacks in the old model.
The current in-game model of the He 111H-6 is noticeably outdated and no longer meets the quality standards that we set for vehicle models in the game. The new model of this regular of aerial battles in ranks II-III now has far more polygons and the new texture has a 4K resolution and has become far more detailed than the previous model.

It takes weeks to build a ground vehicle. It takes years to train a professional. Vehicle crews and maintenance teams are the most valuable resource in any player’s slots.
But the realities of the game dictate their own rules. Every day on the War Thunder battlefields, far more vehicles are destroyed than ever met their end in real war, and a vehicle that is very survivable in real life may fail to show its virtues so clearly when it comes under a hail of fire. This mostly concerns heated battles on the ground.
We strive to recreate historical reality wherever this doesn’t oppose simple logic and exciting gameplay, and the survivability of ground vehicles in battle is an important factor that directly influences how much fun people have in battles. But how do we adapt our vehicles for far more deadly battles than those that took place in real life, without touching the tanks’ carefully recreated characteristics? The answer is simple: crews! It is people that control tanks, and the tank is considered lost only after the majority of its crew are killed. We’ve been looking into various options that would allow you to enjoy the battle for longer without losing the sense of a true conflict.
These options included medkits, which would allow you to return a member of your crew to life, but many of you considered this mechanic not entirely suitable for the realities of Simulator, Realistic and even Arcade battles in War Thunder. There was a literal downpour of suggestions for an alternative. We’ve considered the most logical of your suggestions in developing this latest mechanism, and now we present a new mechanic – crew drafting.
Do things look bad? The tanker is already on the way!
In a large upcoming update, tankers in all modes will become acquainted with a new mechanic with which a tank still capable of contributing to the fight mechanically can prepare for the next skirmish with the enemy by replacing a knocked-out crew member with a reserve soldier.
How does this mechanic work?
Just as you requested, we’ve changed not only the crew member revival mechanism, but also introduced variety to how the mechanic works in different modes.
In Arcade mode, you can request a draft at any point on the map, and if there is only one tanker left in the tank, the draft is requested automatically and all you have to do is hope that the soldier arrives in time. It’s all quite simple, the only thing you have to consider is that the vehicle cannot move between your request for a crew member and the time the crew member arrives.
It’s a little more complicated in Realistic and Simulated modes. Here, you can only draft a tanker at a safe capture point that belongs to your team, and you can only draft a crew member manually. This is in contrast to Arcade mode, only a battle-capable vehicle with a minimum of two living crew members can draft a new crew member. It will also be impossible to move while the replacement is being fulfilled. Crew drafting will become available after you research the ground vehicle modification of the same name. Each individual replacement tanker draft costs Silver Lions.
The tanker is ready to move whenever you request it.
We thank all players who helped by offering suggestions for the development of this new mechanic, and we hope that ground battles in all modes will become more fun because of it. Good luck!

We are pleased to present another new addition to War Thunder in the upcoming major update – the Japanese Ki-100, the most recent development of the Ki-61 line of military fighters.
The story of the Japanese military Ki-100 fighter is remarkable. As a result of the Allied bombing of Japanese armament production lines, an engine production factory in Akashi was destroyed. This factory produced Ha-140 engines for Ki-61 fighters. This left the Kawanishi Aircraft Company with 275 Ki-61 airframes, all bereft of engines. In the extremely harsh wartime conditions, such resource could not go unused, so the airframes were given a new ‘heart’ – the Mitsubishi Ha-112-II radial engine. The first aircraft, dubbed the Ki-100, took to the skies in February 1945, just two months after the new engine was first installed in the Ki-61 airframe.

Pilots and tankers, the last month of summer will be a month to remember. We’re announcing the start of a big new event: Operation S.U.M.M.E.R. Four new premium vehicles straight from the testing grounds, new decals and other prizes for the best warriors in the skies and on the ground!
"Operation S.U.M.M.E.R." will run from July 22nd to August 22nd
Get premium vehicles from Testing Ground "113", decorations, decals and other prizes!
The military arts never stop changing. Somewhere on the front line, shells are firing and turrets are torn off turret rings. Off to the side, engineers strive night and day to perfect their fighting machines: new engines and weapons are developed and armour is strengthened. The results of their efforts are now perfectly tangible.
Soldiers, HQ has received prototypes of military vehicles from Testing Ground 113. This testing ground specializes in a wide array of tasks, from testing the newest prototype ground vehicles and aircraft to benchmarking power trains and complex equipment. Each of these vehicles has its own story: from the famous ‘Uhu’ reconnaissance aircraft that became a test platform for the latest aircraft engines, to a new development: the KV-220 heavy tank, worthy of inheriting the laurel of Kliment Voroshilov, surpassing it in armour, power and armament. The appearance of these vehicles clearly reflects the titanic effort spent on designing and upgrading them. Months in the tender care of mechanics has also left its mark: all testing ground vehicles perform at their peak characteristics as soon as the engine is first started, and their genius engineers have given the vehicles premium status.
There’s a reason these vehicles have been deployed. There is a task at hand: to test these prototype vehicles in real battle conditions with minimal losses. Only the most experienced crews will be able to handle this challenge. Command has decided to distribute the vehicles amongst the best soldiers who have shown their outstanding skills on the battlefield. Now is the time to prove that you are worthy of discovering all the potential of a brand new weapon. You don’t even have to choose – you can get all these vehicles at once by participating in a new operation, codenamed ‘S.U.M.M.E.R.’!
Naturally, there are going to be other useful gifts from the home front too. New decals and other rewards await the event’s participants.
“Operation S.U.M.M.E.R.” will take place from July 22nd to August 22nd
Every day, pilots and tankers will receive tasks to get “Marks of Distinction” completing which will guarantee participants new 3d decorations, decals, discounts and other bonuses. The most active participants will become owners of the unique premium vehicles from “Testing Ground 113”!
If you missed the Marks of Distinction
Each task will be available for 1 day and will be changed to another after 24 hours. Each weekend players will have 4 tasks for pilots and tankers and can be completed within the 2 days. The "Marks of Distinction" ( and ) can still be obtained with Golden Eagles at any time during the event from the day that they appear (future Marks not available until they are released).
Tasks are changed every day at 11:00 GMT. Weekend tasks are changed on Monday at the same time.
The special is divided for pilots and tankers, a player may complete both tank and air tasks to get all the rewards.
Skipped tasks may be purchased in the item shop from the day they appear.
Tasks may be changed at the discretion of the administration.
Your questions:
Q: What if I miss some tasks and I need them to get the prize? A: Skipped tasks may be purchased in the item shop from the day they appear.
Q: Should I do all the tasks or may I skip some? A: You can skip. There will be 40 tasks available for tankers and pilots, in order to get the main prize — the KV-220 and the F7F-3 — you are required to complete 36 tasks, even if you skipped more than 4, you may still purchase the missing ones in the item shop.
Q: Will there be multipliers for different modes? A:. Yes. But they may vary from task to task, check the in-game description.
Q: If I get a decoration/decal from the supply box, is it possible that I can get them again in the future boxes? A: No. You get new content every time you open a new box. So it is possible to get all the decorations and decals.
