Again, we would like to invite you to join a new test of the new "Enduring Confrontation" game mode in Realistic and Simulator Battles. Many improvements and changes have been made since the fourth test, and today you can test it on Stalingrad with German and USSR aircraft available. Thank you to everyone who already provided feedback on this new game mode, and we are looking forward for more opinions and suggestions!

From the 24th of September at 16:00 GMT for 24 hours
"Enduring Confrontation" (RB/SB) is available!

You can find it in the "Events and Tournaments" tab in the game's menu.
Please leave your feedback here: Realistic | Simulator

What's new?
  • New location "Stalingrad" has been adjusted for the mode.
  • Mission type "Convoy" has been fixed and implemented: At the start of the mission, reconnaissance locates an enemy convoy on a random point of the map, which may either be a military or supply convoy. This convoy is moving to a designated point and if the enemy finds it while the distance to the destination is still big enough, the teams receive the objective to either destroy or protect the column, respectively. Supply convoy consists mostly of trucks, while military feature mostly tanks. Cooperate! If your AI reconnaissance aircraft are still operating, you’ll receive a significant bonus to the detection radius.
  • A Bug with the timer not resetting after the aircraft was destroyed has been fixed.
  • Number of active zones available for bombing increased from 2 to 3.
  • Maximum number of zones available for bombing on Stalingrad location has been increased. This allows for a greater choice over active zones available for bombing and zones will now be spread wider all over the map.
  • Bomb tonnage required to destroy bases has been rebalanced. Bomb damage depends on the bomber's BR. These changes have been implemented to increase the chances for a solo bomber to destroy a base in a single run.
    • BR 1.0 - 2.0: 2 x 500 kg (instead of 5)
    • BR 2.3 - 4.7: 4 x 500 kg (instead of 6)
    • BR 5.0 and higher: 6 x 500 kg (instead of 8)
  • Bomb tonnage required to destroy airfields has been rebalanced. Bomb damage depends on the bomber's BR. These changes have been implemented to make airfields more vulnerable and thus more valuable targets.
    • BR 1.0 - 2.0: 3 x 1000 kg (instead of 4)
    • BR 2.3 - 3.3: 4 x 1000 kg (instead of 5)
    • BR 3.7 - 4.7: 5 x 1000 kg (instead of 6)
    • BR 5.0 - 6.3: 8 x 1000 kg (instead of 10)
    • BR 6.7 and higher: 10 x 1000 kg (instead of 12)

    Features of the 5th EC Test:
    • Four events with different Battle Ratings are available:
      • 1.0 - 2.7
      • 2.3 - 4.3
      • 4.0 - 6.3
      • 6.0 - 9.3
    • For your first aircraft to fly out in a session, you may only choose aircraft with the lowest BR for the given game session or those 0.3 or 0.7 points above the minimum (e.g if the Battle Rating for the session is 2.3 - 4.3, you may only choose an aircraft with a BR of 2.3, 2.7 or 3.0 for the first flyout).
    • If all of the vehicles in your lineup come with higher BR than minimally acceptable for the session, you will be given a vehicle with minimal available BR, but without any upgraded modules or crew

    Required bomb tonnage for base destruction (depending on bomber's BR):
    • BR 1.0 - 2.0: 2 x 500 kg bombs;
    • BR 2.3 - 3.3: 4 x 500 kg bombs;
    • BR 3.7 - 4.7: 4 x 500 kg bombs;
    • BR 5.0 - 6.3: 6 x 500 kg bombs;
    • BR 6.7 and higher: 6 x 500 kg bombs.
    Required bomb tonnage for airfield destruction (depending on bomber's BR):
    • BR 1.0 - 2.0: 3 x 1000 kg bombs;
    • BR 2.3 - 3.3: 4 x 1000 kg bombs;
    • BR 3.7 - 4.7: 5 x 1000 kg bombs;
    • BR 5.0 - 6.3: 8 x 1000 kg bombs;
    • BR 6.7 and higher: 10 x 1000 kg bombs.

    Attention! As this is a test run, it may be stopped at any time. Don’t waste your chance, and be sure to take part in the test!

Having already mentioned 3D Aircraft Modelling in our previous article, it's time to get started on Cockpits!

The War Thunder Content Development Kit (CDK) has already made a big impact on the community, with more users getting involved every day. This complex set of tools takes your War Thunder experience to a whole new level, from adapting game mechanics to developing your own creations to function in game. With the vast amount of tools to fulfil your every needs, there is no limit to your imagination.

3D Aircraft Modeling in the War Thunder CDK
Creating your own content in the CDK has never been more entertaining and rewarding, with users already creating their own aircraft, missions and maps. Utilizing the CDK, you are also able to fully develop your own 3D cockpits, with functioning instruments, equipment and controls. Not only that, but the tools allow you to use your new creations and designs on existing aircraft in game, or on your own aircraft creations.

Common favourites among community members is the ability to create unique sights and add personal pictures into existing cockpits. Historically, many pilots would personalize their cockpit with a photo or memento that had sentimental or personal value. The same could be said with many aiming sights, some pilots would often modify their cockpit to suit personal preference by changing sights or scopes should they have the ability to do so. The CDK allows for simple adaptations such as these or of course more complex redesigns and entirely new creations!

Today we’re going to unveil our first armoured vehicles of the British tech line which are going to appear in one of our incoming updates. Meet the British pioneers in War Thunder: the A13 Mk.II cruiser tank, the Sherman Firefly medium tank, the M10 Achilles anti-tank SPG, and the A43 Black Prince infantry tank. Whilst the other British ground vehicles, including the regular versions of most of these, are in development, these four premium tanks will be the first vehicles available in the store for the true fans of British ground forces.

A13 Mk. II (Cruiser Mark IV)

Livery variant of the up-armoured A13 Mk. II (Cruiser Mark IV) with a two-colour camouflage scheme, Middle Bronze Green/Deep Bronze Green, France, 1940”. Original prototype hull from headquarters of squadron “A” of the 3rd Royal Tank Regiment, 3rd Tank Battalion, 1st Armoured Division, with a two-colour camouflage scheme, France, May 1940.

Vyacheslav Bulannikov, Game-designer:
This is the tank it all started with. It was the first British cruiser tank created with American technology, and was used as a basis for the design of many other British cruiser tanks from that point on. The A13 was the first British tank to get the Christie suspension system. Later, Christie suspension gained widespread popularity and was used on the majority of Britain’s fast-moving series-produced tanks during the Second World War, and also in tank design used in other countries. Even the Soviet BT tanks were equipped with suspension of this design, and the legendary T-34 too! As was the norm for “newcomers”, the A13 had a range of problems that were slowly corrected by redevelopment and modernization efforts. Before us is an up-armoured model of the tank. This vehicle has decent mobility and has been placed at rank I. It’s worth playing this tank and using its chief advantage, the fast-loading cannon.

See video of this vehicle in action here!

17 pdr. M10 65th. Anti-Tank Regt

The M10 Achilles of the British 7th Armoured Division, 65th Anti-Tank Regiment, Norfolk Yeomanry.

Vyacheslav Bulannikov, Game-designer:
No doubt many War Thunder players are familiar with the legendary Sherman Firefly – a Sherman equipped with a 17-pounder British anti-tank cannon, a perfect weapon for destroying German heavy tanks. But the Sherman wasn’t the only American tank modernized by the British for a 17-pounder gun. The M10 SPG with a rotating turret was also modernized in Britain before the Normandy landings, and received the same deadly anti-tank weapon. The SPG, which was christened Achilles, might not have won the same fame as the Sherman Firefly, but was its equal in firepower all the same. Its open turret with fairly large proportions allowed the crew to man the weapon in more comfortable conditions.

Sherman IC 2nd “Warsaw” Armoured Division

Sherman Firefly Ic “TRZYNIEC” 1st Squadron, 4th Armoured Regiment “Scorpion”, 2nd Armoured Brigade, 2nd “Warsaw” Armoured Division, Italy, 1945.

Vyacheslav Bulannikov, Game-designer:
The most well-known antidote to the “German menagerie” on the Western Front, the Sherman Firefly became a true legend of its time. Its equipment is simple, reliable and deadly – the result of installing a turret with a 17-pounder anti-tank cannon on an American Sherman chassis. The tank was so well suited to combat on the front that it remained the most fearsome enemy of German tankers until very near to the end of the war.

This model of the Sherman became one of the most successful M4 modifications made. We’re sure that players will enjoy the Firefly at rank 3 in battles against the early Tigers and the Panther.

See video of this vehicle in action here!

A43 Black Prince

Vyacheslav Bulannikov, Game-designer:
This tank became the most highly improved modification of the Churchill, but never saw deployment due to the end of the war against Germany. The tank’s design was thoroughly reworked. A new welded hexagonal turret was created to house a 76.2 mm cannon. The tank is excellently armoured and armed with a deadly 17-pounder anti-tank gun. A magnificent tank, it is capable of greater pressure than the earlier Churchills, but be aware of enemy flanking maneuvers.

Kuzma Lykov, artist:
The most produced version of carrier-borne SB2C dive bomber, used by the US Navy during the Second World War. It incorporates the best of the previous versions. This aircraft took part in all major operations in the final stages of war in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. One of the most notable achievements was the sinking of the Musashi and Yamato super-battleships which were symbols of the Japanese Empire's navy and naval power.

Wing mounted pylons were made at user request so additional bomb load is now possible. Also the aircraft can carry 8 unguided 5-inch HVAR missiles.
The SB2C-4 will be added to the US carrier-borne bomber tree.
