Question: Is it possible to win the main prize (SU-76M) if I complete less than 12 tasks?

Answer: Yes, it is possible. You are guaranteed to receive the premium “SU-76M” in one of twelve “Resupply Boxes” - and each time, the probability of obtaining it will be increased. You may also skip some tasks, but purchase the “SU-76M 5th Gv.Kav.Corps Resupply Box” using the in-game store.
You can unlock 12 resupply boxes if you complete 9 of the tasks in game and purchase 3 boxes using the in-game shop.

Do you remember how to use towing cable?
You need to as It will be useful in the challenge!

Welcome to a new experimental event.

The main goal is to evacuate Gepard SPAA. The vehicle’s engine is out of service so the only way to deliver it is to use the towing cable to drag it to your team’s zone.

The enemy team will do everything to prevent you from doing it and towing is not an easy task on rough surfaces - if you want to be the one who does it you will need to choose a vehicle with a powerful engine and enough mass.

The main victory condition is that enemy team should lose all its points.
You can do it by delivering the “disputed” tank to the special zone for your team. As soon as the above named vehicle reaches the zone - your enemy starts to lose points.

Terms:

  • "Capture and hold the Gepard SPAA at your base.
  • A destroyed “disputed” tank will reappear in the central zone after 10 seconds.
  • A team loses 500 points if one of its members is knocked out.
  • The longer the tank is in the evac zone the faster the enemies lose their points.
  • The towed tank is vulnerable and can be destroyed but for destroying it the team will receive a 2000 point penalty.
  • You may want to destroy the evacuated tank in a no-win situation, or when the “disputed” tank is almost delivered to the enemy zone. By sacrificing some points, you can still create a chance of winning.
  • Each team consists of 4 players.
  • You can respawn with all ground vehicles in your lineup.

Today we are introducing a medium US tank - the M26 Pershing with T99 rocket launcher system - a premium vehicle, which will take its place at the 4th rank.

Vyacheslav Bulannikov, Game Designer:
This vehicle will be the first rank 4 tank with rocket armament and will represent a serious threat to any enemy that meets it on the battlefield. The Pershing by itself can be a very dangerous opponent at its rank, and this additional weaponry expands its potential even further.

Svetlana Smirnova, Artist:
This is your usual M26 with four containers containing 11 rockets in each. The result is a powerful 90 mm M3 cannon with the addition of 44 rockets. Here, in contrast to the Calliope, the launchers aren’t as large and don’t unmask the tank. Apart from that, hitting them is a lot more difficult. So this vehicle has a chance to become a very dangerous heavy tank hunter.

Located in the far north-east of present-day Slovakia, the Dukla Pass is a mountain pass through the Carpathian mountains, connecting the country with the territory of Poland. All through history, the Dukla Pass has been regarded as a location where both Western and Eastern European cultures met - but in 1944, during the final months of World War II, it became a fierce battlefield.

After the Slovak National Uprising a few days earlier, Soviet General Konev commanded his 1st Ukrainian Front to commence with the Red Army’s Eastern-Carpathian Operation (Wostotschno-Karpatskaja operazija), aiming at breaking through the German-Hungarian lines defending the Carpathian region. Together with the 4th Ukrainian Front led by General Petrov, the Soviet troops counted more than 240.000 Soldiers, 320 tanks and 1150 aircraft.

One of memorials of the Dukla Pass battle of 1944.

On the opposing side, the Armeegruppe Heinrici (Army Group Heinrici), commanded by the eponymous German General, was composed of the 1st Panzer Army and 1st Hungarian Army. In total strength, the Axis forces counted about 300.000 Soldiers, 100 tanks and 450 aircraft.

One part of the Eastern-Carpathian Operation led to the intense Battle of Dukla Pass, where well dug-in Axis troops were able to summon major resistance against the advancing Red Army forces. Not only of major strategic importance for the German war effort, the territory was also important to it’s Hungarian ally, which annexed the Carpathian region from Czechoslovakia after the country was split in 1938.

Most renowned for it’s role in this battle is the strategic Hill 534 not far from the town of Dukla, which was captured more than twenty times between the opposing forces. Ultimately, due to the fierce Axis resistance, it took the Red Army two months to penetrate the so-called Karpatenfestung (Carpathian Fortress) by a mere 30 kilometers. Eventually, however, the Axis forces had to withdraw, with six German divisions and large parts of the equipment heavily battered.

In the end, this small but strategic Soviet victory led to be the onset of pushing the German forces out of Slovakia and is considered the first day Soviet troops set foot on Czechoslovakian territory.

Dear players!
We are pleased to inform you that with the next Battle Ratings and Economy update in War Thunder we will expand the process of the matchmaker by introducing a new set of rules, which makes it possible to influence the build of the teams in all game modes.

The rules will be very flexible and can be applied to individual ranges of BR’s, specific types of vehicles and also for specific vehicles. This will allow more precision on the distribution of the forces in battles - ultimately making battles more balanced realising a previously unattainable quality of gameplay. Here is some information which should help you understand the system.

The potential of the new rules is extensive. A good example of how these rules can be used is historical events, which are interesting for players who like realism and fixed setups in battles, and not using matchmaking with BR. Previously, we could only create some events with allowed vehicles and it wasn’t possible to limit the numbers of specific vehicles. This had negative aspects for gameplay in these events, because of course our players prefer the most effective vehicles, which nullified the historical balance.

The new rules give us the functionality that will not only indicate the setups available for the battle, but also to limit the number of individual machines, this will be a big step towards expanding the diversity of tactics and gameplay.

The example with historical events is intended to show the possibility of using the rules, these rules will also apply to tournaments, squadron battles and also, which is extremely important, even in random battles.

Specifically, random battles will have the new rules applied first.

Currently, battles at the higher ranks (from BR 7.0 upwards) are seriously complicated by a margin of the top vehicles in War Thunder, because while the creation of game sessions for BR 8.0 matchmaking will be made only from vehicles with same rank or lower, while the vehicles with BR 7.0 have spread to both sides and thus evenly distributed over the battles receiving much more varied gameplay rather than highest BR’s.

In such a complex situation, the use of tactics in battles with BR 8.0 does not give the desired effect, because the enemy, which is constrained by these rules, exceeds you not only in thickness of armour, but also, usually by quantity. This situation needed to be corrected.

This is the reason why we decided to implement this step towards progressing players and players who have already reached the top-ranks and why we are limiting the numbers of top-vehicles in each gaming session for both teams. This allows us to diversify the gameplay at the top-ranks and make progress more convenient.

The introducing of the new rules will make matchmaking more complex at higher ranks, because now for the same amount of players at high ranks entering battles we must have more concurrent game sessions, this is not always achievable.

Therefore, the next step is an essential lowering of the ceiling BR’s for aircraft and ground vehicles, which, coupled with the new rules, will mean the work of matchmaking will not lead to the dominance of the top vehicles in a battlefield. This will, of course, require the necessary rebalancing (BR changes) of all vehicles within the affected BR spreads.

How will the matchmaker work using the new rules? Let us see with an example of ground vehicles where the maximum BR will be 7.7.

Initially, the new rules will be applied only for battles of higher ranks with a BR spread between 6.7 - 7.7 and 7.0 - 7.7.

So in battles, where the participating vehicles with a minimum BR of 6.7 and a maximum BR of 7.7, the number of ground vehicles with a BR of 7.7 will be limited to 25% of all team members (4 top-vehicles in a team of 16 players).

In battles where the participating vehicles have a minimum BR of 7.0 and a maximum BR of 7.7, the numbers of vehicles with a BR of 7.7 will be limited to 35% from all team members (6 top-vehicles in the team with 16 players).

We hope that the new matchmaking rules will be a great tool for players aspiring to the heights of progress, and for those who have already discovered the power of top-vehicles, will open up the game to much more varied play. See you in battle!
