War Thunder - TheShaolinMonk

Dear players!
The long awaited Enduring Confrontation mode introduced with Update 1.51 will soon be available to the pilots of Realistic and Simulator Battles. Now you can help to make this mode even better and prepare it for launch!

Join in on the next test of “Enduring Confrontation”, now available in both
Realistic and Simulator mode with the ability to use your own lineup of vehicles.
Testing will start on the 9th of July at 15:00 GMT - The mode is available in the “Events and tournaments” tab

Test Conditions:
  • This time, the test will be available in Realistic Battles and Simulator Battles;
  • Instead of pre-defined lineups, you can now use your own lineup in the events;
  • There are four events with different BR ranges available for each mode:
    • 1.0 - 2.7
    • 2.3 - 4.3
    • 4.0 - 6.3
    • 6.0 - 9.3
  • If all vehicles in your lineup are of a higher Battle Rating than the minimum BR of the mode (e.g. all vehicles are at least 1.3 and you join the 1.0 - 2.7 event), you will be temporarily assigned an additional slot with a minimum BR (and thus timer-free) vehicle - but this vehicle will come without any researched modules and an untrained crew.
  • "Spotters" have been added as a new task type: Aircraft operated by AI can now reconnoitre enemy airfields. This is a test of a system in development and will be fully available after new mechanics have been implemented. More info will follow in future tests.
Fixed errors:
  • Strengthened the AAA defences for bases and airfields;
    The time to choose and set up vehicles has been increased from 60 to 120 seconds;
    The bomb tonnage required to destroy enemy bases and airfields has been rebalanced:
    • Bases
  • BR 1-2 - 3x500kg
  • BR 2.3-3.3 - 4x500kg
  • BR 3.7-4.7- 4x500kg
  • BR 5-6.3 - 6x500kg
  • BR 6.7 and higher - 6x500kg
  • Airfields:
    • BR 1-2 - 8x500kg
    • BR 2.3-3.3 - 10x500kg
    • BR 3.7-4.7 - 15x500kg
    • BR 5-6.3 - 25x500kg
    • BR 6.7 and higher - 30x500kg
  • Various small issues have been fixed
Update (09/07/2015 - 16:15 GMT)
Battle Rating ranges for events has been changed:
  • 1.0 - 2.7 (was 1.0 - 2.7)
  • 2.3 - 4.3 (was 3.0 - 4.3)
  • 4.0 - 6.3 (was 4.7 - 6.3)
  • 6.0 - 9.3 (was 6.7 - 9.0)

Attention! As this is a test run, it may be stopped at any time.
Don’t waste any time, and be sure to take part in the test!

About the game mode:
  • In this game mode, players can join the battle at any time (except for game sessions that have ended). The battles are subject to specific objectives and players will have multiple tasks that they will need to complete: for fighters, to destroy all enemy aircraft; for attackers, to destroy all enemy AAA; for bombers, to bomb enemy strategic targets. As well as this, we are developing more combat missions and creating additional tactical situations., which will become available to players from time to time.
  • IAircraft repairs are free, but each flyout is paid for with Silver Lions, and the recently joined player will begin with weaker aircraft - Participants will unlock access to more powerful vehicles after some time has been spent in the battle. This time may be reduced by destroying enemy bases, airfields, and enemy aircraft.
  • IThe general tasks of this mode are as follows: scouting enemy airfields, search and destruction of ground targets, interception of enemy aircraft, and many more, with the list of tasks being regularly updated. After completing specific tasks new ones will appear. For each successful action during a session, players will earn Air Domination Points (ADP), which will be counted towards the team’s score. After the session is over, the team with most ADP wins. Also, earning ADP for the team gives the player the opportunity to use more powerful aircraft earlier in battle. After each flyout, the vehicles of the type and level used will be blocked for some time, thus the player should change either the “level” of the aircraft or the type.

Features:
  • Rewards for each mission is paid after a player leaves the battle and doesn’t depend on the battle’s end result. Though, a certain bonus is also added after the mission is over.
  • After a player has chosen a certain aircraft, it will be locked for some time starting from the moment the aircraft has been destroyed. E.g. if the vehicle is available once per 30 minutes, a player can chose it 30 minutes after his vehicle was destroyed, not after he started to fly it. This also means that a player who manages to land on an allied airfield will be able to swap out his vehicle for another choice, without restarting the timer.
  • Vehicles of the same BR and type have a common timer. Currently, two groups with common timers exist: Fighters (including light, heavy and naval) and Bombers (including all bombers and attackers).
  • It will be useful to keep aircraft of all types in your preset so you won’t be left without an aircraft to fly in the midst of battle.
  • Timer duration depends on Battle Ratings. The higher the BR, the longer the timer duration will be.
  • Vehicles of the lower BR spectrum for a specific session do not come with a timer and will always be available
Note: The Session Battle Rating is the range of minimal and maximal BR available in the specific session. Thus, a session with a BR of 5.0-6.3 means that any player who has his top BR vehicle within this limit can join the session. E.g. for a ”5.0 - 6.3” BR session, vehicles with BR 5.0 and lower will have no timer, 5.3 vehicles will have shortest timer duration, and 6.3 BR vehicles will have the longest.

Dear Friends!

As we are now able to use ground vehicles in user missions, it is important to understand how “tank bots” navigate in War Thunder.

A special system of geometry, referred to as “navigation mesh” or "navmesh", it is calculated in the Editor for all movements made over the landscape. It is specifically used for the navigation of “Tank bots” only. The bots in game cannot move over locations where "navmesh" does not exist.

You can see the mesh in the mission editor by clicking on this button in the “Scene view” plugin, which can be seen here:

The bots in game cannot move over locations where "navmesh" does not exist. It is indicated on the terrain using red triangles shown over the existing landscape.

There is a special window in the Editor to build and export navigation mesh into a location. The Visual model is calculated after pressing the “Build nav mesh!” button, so you can check it in the “viewport” window. If everything is okay, you must check the “Export nav mesh” option and then export the location to the game as always. It is important to understand that "navmesh" is created only around splines with this option selected (checked on).

Don’t forget to use our CDK (Content Development Kit) and produce your own vehicle skins, maps, missions and even models. You can read all about the wonderful things you can do with our CDK on our Wiki page here and even view some of the videos that will help you produce stunning and amazing content for our game.

The Editor: build and export navigation meshes into a location.

We have many users in our community who create excellent in game content for all of the player base to enjoy, these are all consolidated on the live.warthunder site. The team are always on patrol looking for talented and imaginative content producers who can get involved in our Revenue share scheme, which provides a real chance for our users to make cash out of content.

We are excited to continue developing the CDK of War Thunder, and further extend the possibilities for player-created content. Keep an eye on the news in the future for more ideas and information!

Changes in squadron roles
In the last Update: 1.51 “Cold Steel”, we introduced the following changes to the system of squadron roles and titles:
  • All squadrons can now only have one Commander (squadron leader).
  • Commanders may appoint a Deputy Commander, but not more than one.
  • The Deputy Commander has the same privileges (power) as the Commander, but can neither disband the squadron, nor remove the Commander from the squadron. They also cannot change their own role.
  • If the Commander leaves the squadron, the Deputy Commander will automatically assume squadron leadership.
  • The Commander cannot leave the squadron if another person has not been appointed as Deputy Commander.
If a squadron that already existed at the time of the changes has multiple Commanders appointed through the old rules, a newly promoted Deputy Commander will only assume leadership if the last regular Commander leaves the squadron. All new squadrons will be created in consideration of these new changes.

The Fourth of July marks a significant and widely celebrated date in the history of the United States of America. Around the world, this is the day that is commonly known and referred to as “Independence Day”.

Commemorating the signing, adoption, and publication of the Declaration of Independence, which ultimately marked their separation from The Kingdom of Great Britain, Independence Day is a federal holiday in the US, however, it was on the 2nd of July in 1776 that the Thirteen Colonies legally separated, after the Second Continental Congress voted in favour of this decision. The Declaration had been in preparation and writing by Thomas Jefferson and the Committee of Five since June 11th that same year, and was published two days later. It is famously known to specifically outline that all men are born equal, and that they have the right to choose their own government. It is on these ideals that American democracy was instituted.

The first documented celebration of Independence Day was the Bristol Fourth of July Parade, in Bristol, Rhode Island. It started in 1785, and continues as ongoing even today. Floats of various themes, and of course, fireworks, are well known to accompany modern celebrations. Macy’s in New York hosts the biggest fireworks display of all, with over 75,000 lbs lighting up the sky for around half an hour.

Take part in our “Battle of Kursk” event with historical setups from July 1943,
including AB Domination ground vehicle battles and SB ‘Battle of Kursk’ combined battles.

The Battle of Kursk was one of the largest armoured battles, and quite possibly the largest single air battle, in history. This event is identified as a true decisive battle, taking place after both the Germans and Soviets had awaited a major confrontation when stalemate had eventuated in previous conflicts. The battle would occur near Kursk, a town on the Moscow-Rostov railway located in Southern Russia. The Germans referred to the battle as “Operation Citadel”, while the Soviets used two names: “Operation Kutuzov” to refer to the defensive side of the conflict, and “Operation Polkovodets Rumjantsev” for the offence.

The battle began on the 4th of July, with Junkers Ju87 Stukas leading the attack by strafing the tops of lightly armoured Soviet tanks. This was followed by barrages of artillery. The 2nd SS Panzer Corps, 3rd Panzer Corps, and the 11th Panzer Division, stormed Soviet positions. Throughout this day, they continued to make advances, however, Soviet forces put up considerable resistance and were able to slow the advance of the German forces. Casualties mounted for both sides, and surprisingly, Hitler withdrew part of the German forces to reinforce operations in Italy in response to the Allies’ successful landing in Sicily. With German strength weakened, Soviets were able to counter the German forces, liberating Oryol, Belgorod, and Kharkov after the Battle of Kursk.

Despite lacking a ‘clear-cut’ victory for the Soviet side, the Germans suffered a clear defeat. Following The Battle of Kursk, their plans for 1943 were in serious disarray, aggravated further by the opening of a new front in Italy. Both sides experienced heavy losses, but only the Soviets had the manpower and industrial capacity to fully recover.
