We’re not officially updating Kenshi really, outside of the odd FCS update when we add transferable features for the Kenshi 2 version, but yet here we are.
Most of the updates are specifically for localised versions of Kenshi but we have a couple of minor additions that affect all versions:
First up, we’ve fixed an issue that caused the options screen to use the default font size when returning to the game after close, despite the options menu belligerently claiming it’s been changed.
Secondly, we've added some default keybinds to make SteamDeck/controller etc. configurations easier to set up. Simply press the button that resets your keybinds to these default settings and start customising from there.
Small Localisation Updates for Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), German, French & Japanese
Lo-Fi’s Localisation Team has been steaming ahead since last October, after the new localisers for Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), German, and Chinese (Simplified) joined the team. One of the first things they looked into, before tackling Kenshi 2, was to look into Kenshi’s non-dialogue related text, including UI, tips, and item descriptions for inconsistencies, mistranslations, and language-specific issues.
We are happy to announce that Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), German, French and Japanese corrections are now completed with some of the key changes that are outlined below.
Spanish
There were many inconsistencies in gamedata, such as,‘‘blueprints’ translated into multiple words, and ‘Beak Things’ and ‘Skimmers’ translated into two different words. Beak Things are now consistently called ‘Pinchostruo’ and Skimmers ‘Patineto’.
Some mistranslated words are also corrected, including "Armour King’ changed from “armadura del rey” (the king’s armour)” to “Rey de la armadura”.
Some skill-related verbs such as ‘crafting’ and ‘farming’ are also using correct tenses. Most of the lore-related notes and documents are re-translated and should be easier to read compared to the previous translations.
German
Quotation marks and ellipses (…) are now properly displayed. No more text gaps!
Translated previously untranslated text
Fixed text overflow on certain UI elements
Some incorrect skill name translations were fixed
Generic NPC names are now correctly gendered to match the NPC’s gender (for example: Bauer/Bäuerin, Söldner/Söldnerin)
Fixed many naming inconsistencies, including Rebirth and the Skeleton race
Skimmers now retain their English name and Skimsands was accordingly changed to “Skimwüste”
The “Gutters” faction is now correctly called “Ausweider”
Reworked many UI texts, item descriptions, tips and tutorials to fix errors and increase legibility
Portuguese (Brazil)
All the game interface (except dialogues) has been reviewed and polished in Portuguese. Players should notice several improvements to the previous translation, including:
Fixing of typos, grammar, and UI display issues (such as the infamous /OA/)
Consistency within gameplay elements (e.g., "equipe" instead of "grupo/equipe" for "squad") and lore elements (e.g., "Talho Negro" instead of "Arranhão/Talho Negro" for "Black Scratch")
Fixing of overflowing and cut-off text. There may be more work to do, but we’ve fixed what we could find
Generic NPC names now display according to the specific character's gender (e.g., "Padeiro" or "Padeira" for "Baker")
Instructional text and item descriptions have been mostly re-written for improved clarity
A few tweaks to give the Portuguese localization more flavour (e.g., instead of the awkward "areiaíche" for "dustwich", we now have "sandubareia")
French
A few fixes and improvements, such as:
Untranslated text that used to appear in English is now translated into French
Improved translation of some GUI elements
Fixed some errors with items and their descriptions
Generic names now display according to the character’s gender (e.g., "marchand" or "marchande" for “trader")
Japanese
Some untranslated texts have now been translated into Japanese. Speed-related displays such as miles/hr are shown in Japanese. Some instructional and help texts have been edited further for easier reading.
It’s been a long time coming, but the team wishes all players, new and old, to enjoy the new update that will make it easier to play Kenshi in their respective languages.
Item weight bug fix for Simplified Chinese
We’ve made a small but significant change to fix a bug that made the weight of items display incorrectly in Simplified Chinese; Previously, 1 kg was displayed as the equivalent of 1111 kg and 9 kg displayed as 1119 kg etc.
The weights of all items should now display correctly. Thanks to everyone that pointed this out.
Steam Spring Sale
That’s all for now, just a little space here for us to mention that we’re currently 55% off in the Steam Spring Sale. Catch you next time!
It’s that time again, another community spotlight! We can’t believe it’s already March, time seems to be flying by faster than a Beak Thing chasing you down for dinner. Before that happens, let’s take a look back at the fanart, screenshots and mods shared with us throughout the past month.
Creator Spotlight
We also wanted to take a moment to highlight some recent YouTubers and Twitch streamers who are currently sharing their Kenshi experience.
A renowned professional gamer, 関優太(Stylish Noob) is currently streaming Kenshi. With Rane the Giant as his battle partner, he is travelling far and wide in the Kenshi universe. We look forward to seeing where his adventure takes him.

A bunch of Kenshi trivia
In the run-up to Christmas 2022, we created an advent calendar on our social media, sharing facts and trivia about Lo-Fi and Kenshi.
There was a lot of interesting stuff in there that you might not have known about Kenshi and/or Lo-fi so we’ve compiled it all into one easy-to-digest blog for you to sink your teeth into.
There are 28 people in 12 countries across four continents working on Kenshi 2.
Day 4
Catun was originally named Catan but the name was changed due to similarities with a certain board game.
Day 5
Many of the bandit's mispronunciations of long words were inspired by my Nat's friend Will, who's long been mocked for saying 'confirmination' instead of 'confirmation'.
Day 6
December 6th is the 4th anniversary of Kenshi’s official release! What is your favourite memory of the game from the past four years?
Day 7
Nat couldn't decide what to call the Holy Nation god for ages, then when she was on a bus in Gran Canaria she was thinking about okra vegetables.
Day 8
Hivers come from the Queen's dispenser unit.
Day 9
The KLR series limbs are named after Chris's favourite motorbike - the Kawasaki KLR650. Which character would be cool enough to ride this bike?
Day 10
Kenshi was originally known as Forgotten, a name whose legacy lives on in the Forgotten Construction Set.
What would you have named it if you’d made the game?
Day 11
One of the longest strings of Kenshi dialogues is when the player's character refuses to leave the shop at night. They were some of the first things Nat worked on as a writer and she just wrote too many out of sheer panic.
Day 12
In Kenshi 1's development, getting dialogues and interactions to actually run in the game took at least 10 x longer than actually writing it. It was extremely frustrating before we got condition templates in Kenshi 2 - setting everything manually was tedious, temperamental, highly bug prone and a source of many a meltdown, particularly without having a QA.
Day 13
Hivers choose their names based on the first thing they see when they are born. How Beep got his name is very questionable.
Just over 50,000 people have left reviews for Kenshi. Out of them: 95% left positive reviews The average reviewer's playtime is 137 ½ hours One reviewer has 17,000 hours on record The top 10% most passionate reviewers played for more than 500 hours
How many hours have you clocked up?
Day 17
Discover the origins of Agnu: The Agnorigins? EtymolAgnulogy? Eggnog? Agnu was named after Chris' motorcycle, which was in turn named after the Headless body of Agnew from Futurama.
Day 18
Although Kenshi is designed to supply the player with cruel antagonists to take down, we also like to keep the humans of the world morally grey and diverse as well. This is why you'll see Holy Nation or United Cities residents/guards occasionally showing kindness to the player, for example giving them food when starving. We like to also show that humans aren't just purely evil for the sake of evil.
Have you ever been blessed by Kenshi? Was there ever a time when you felt justly treated by its inhabitants?
Day 19
Hobbs never actually wrestled a randy gorillo, he's a lying shit.
Day 20
Kenshi could have gone in a very different direction because a long time ago, Kenshi was planned to be a gun-based title.
Day 21
Scorchlanders were originally called Sun Demons and were concepted to have tails.
Day 22
Red is a pickpocket, but also a unique recruit who will only join you if she thinks you're a pathetic underdog like her. She is very picky about who joins her.
Day 23
A fourth big world faction was planned called the Republic of Tertius, its leader's name changing from Fark to Tertius to Tornado King to Mighty Patriarch...We later scrapped it because we decided it didn't add any value or contrast to the game and its existing societies. Plus it was a bit weird.
Which one of those names is your favourite?
Day 24
Kenshi players have racked up a combined playtime of 140,278,740 hours. Kenshi gained more new players in 2022 than it did in 2021 or 2020. What year did you join the Kenshi hype train?
And there you go, you’re all caught up! Thanks for joining us with our first blog post of 2023.
We'll have another Community Spotlight blog at the end of this month, so do continue to tag us in all your screenshots, mods and fanart for a chance to make it in the spotlight.
As always, we thank you all for the continued support you show us. Make sure you're keeping up to date with us on our social media channels as well as our Discord server.

Community Spotlight #3
We are constantly blown away by the artists, modders and virtual photographers among the community and what they share with us. Here’s another round-up of what we’ve shared recently!
25 Days of Kenshi Facts and Trivia
We’re a little way into our advent calendar of daily Kenshi trivia and wallpaper giveaways. If you’ve not had the chance to have a look then head over to one of our social media website profile type thingymawotsits. If you don’t have Myspace then I guess we might be able to compile them into a post in the new year, if you behave yourselves.
We have some pretty cool people working on Kenshi 2!
Kenshi turned 4 on Tuesday 6th December, 2022!
We know a lot of veterans of the game have been playing earlier incarnations of Kenshi for much longer than that, with March 20th 2013 being the first release of Kenshi on Steam Early Access. But the official Steam release wasn’t until 6th December 2018, so we’d like to raise a glass to commemorate Kenshi’s fourth real birthday, and to say thank you to all those that have been with us before and after Kenshi 1.0. We would love to hear in the comments what your favourite memories of Kenshi have been over the last 4 years.
Be sure you’re following us on our social media channels to see what we share over the next few weeks! That’s all from us for now folks! We wish everyone a wonderful holiday period and we look forward to seeing you all again in the new year!
We’re very happy to welcome so many new Kenshi fans to the fold in this latest update. Would you believe, we’ve seen more new players discover Kenshi this year than we did in 2021 and 2020, so first of all - a massive thank you to all our players, new and old.
New merch and a giveaway!
We were absolutely humbled and delighted with the response we’ve had to the previous shirts, and have frequently been asked if we’d be doing any more, so we are pleased to share three new designs, available in a range of colour options.
Rep your favourite skelly recruitable, your appreciation for the landscape or simply look hella cool in our new death metal-style Kenshi logo shirt. As always, if you pick one up, please share it with us on the socials.
We’re also launching a new type of product - you can now protect your desk from the long hours of playing Kenshi, Foodcube crumbs and Grog spills with this new desk mat:
Have a gander at the new range, available now, over at our merch partner RobaRoba! If you’re thinking about picking up some gear in time for the holidays, make sure to check the individual item’s page on RobaRoba for details on shipping time estimates.
Enter our competition for a chance to win free merchandise
To celebrate the release of the new merch we’re going to give away two new shirts and a desk mat to three randomly selected commenters across three different social media platforms.
There’ll be a shirt winner on Instagram, a shirt winner on Twitter, and desk mat winner on Facebook. For a chance to win all three, track us down and answer the questions there.
One answer per platform only - each platform answer counts as an entry for that specific prize . The competition is open to any country RobaRoba currently ships to (which is most; contact them if you’re unsure).
The competition opens now and closes on Tuesday 22nd November at 6pm, GMT.

That’s all from us, for now! We’ll be back with another community spotlight blog at the end of the month, so keep tagging us in all your fanart pics and mods for the chance of a highlight.

Hey there Kenshi fans, we’re here for another round-up of excellent community content highlighting some of the amazing work done by the Kenshi modding community.
Did you know that there are more than 10,000 items in the Steam Workshop for Kenshi? Big up the modders, we appreciate all your efforts.
The world of Kenshi is pretty terrifying as it is but if you really want to get into the spirit this Halloween, we have 15 spooky mods created by the community to share with you.
Go hunting for a half man, half dog beast that’s been spotted in the Vain area, adding to the other cute and cuddly creatures that want to devour your insides.
This mod was made by Arkhiel back when we co-hosted a Halloween competition with the Kenshi Community Discord. Install this and you’ll find a pumpkin head (excellent), a broom (nice), and “a lot of dudes in a few biomes (border zone, swamp, desert, okran valley and a few more) wearing that and behaving like shrieking bandits, just because”. Lovely stuff.
Another entry from the old Kenshi Community Discord Halloween contest with some rather fetching Halloween-esque cosmetic items. Scare off your enemies by having a cleaver through your head or an arrow in your knee… whatever you’re in the mood for.
Hunt down or save the Fungoid race, who are known for their high farming and medical skills!
We hope you enjoyed this spooky mod showcase! Let us know if you’ll be trying out any of these mods and tag us on Twitter and Instagram with your screenshots or videos!
