Heroes & Generals - Reto.McFly
With the release of the minor Update 1.10.2 last week we added an additional number of new vehicle paint jobs for all three factions – 10 vehicle paint jobs to be excact!

Read on if you want to look your best when winning battles!

The following vehicles got new paint jobs in this minor update.

SOVIET VEHICLES
Update 1.10.2 brought Paint schemes for the victory tank, the powerful T-34-85 Model 1944, as well as one for the T-26 light tank and the first one for the Ba-6 recon vehicle.

Kutuzov Two Tone
The Kutuzov is a field painted disruptive pattern camouflage consisting of red-brown patches painted on top of the green factory paint.
The green and red-brown colors proved especially effective in the muddy environment during the Kharkov offensive in May 1942, but also provided an excellent camouflage in thick forests throughout the summer.

Vasyugan Light
During the Autumn of 1944 the Red Army is on the offensive and a camouflage pattern suited for an army on the move was required.
The Vasyugan Light consisted of a dense layer of random yellow patches painted on top of the green factory paint.
The light color and web-like pattern of the green color made this a perfect camouflage for rolling through open fields and as well as hiding in the forest.

GERMAN VEHICLES
For the Germans, this update added the second vehicle paint to the Panther (Panzer V) and the Panzer II Ausf. C and the first paint job for the SdKfz 222 recon vehicle.

Paint Scheme: Light Olive
The Light Olive, also known as Dark Yellow or “Dunkelgelb” became the standard factory color in October 1942, replacing the Dark Grey which was previously used as a base.
Contrary to what one might think, the Dunkelgelb did not originate as a color for desert warfare, but rather a color that would blend into agricultural environments.
The new lighter color also made it easier to paint camouflage over the vehicles using darker colors to make them fit in with the specific environment in which the vehicle was used.

Paint Scheme: Ambush DB
The other German paint scheme is called Ambush DB, and more vehicles will be available in this paint setup in the future.
In August 1944 the German army was on the defensive and a new camouflage was needed to better allow vehicles to lie in wait for an approaching enemy. The solution was an “Ambush” pattern or “Hinterhalt-Tarnung”. This consisted of a green and red-brown paint being applied on to the base layer of dark yellow paint.
This was to be done at the factory so that the vehicle would be ready to fight as soon as it rolled out of the assembly line.
The factory accomplished a very effective Ambush camouflage by applying random green and brown patches on the vehicle, and then applied smaller spots of yellow on top of these.
These small spots gave the illusion of sunlight passing through tree leaves, which made the Ambush DB pattern especially effective for vehicles hiding in the forest.

US VEHICLES
The US uses two main paint jobs – the Ardennes Four Color and the Olive Drab and Black. In this minor update the Sherman Easy 8 Medium tank, the ‘Jumbo’ Sherman Heavy tank and the M8 Greyhound recon vehicle got a paint job each.

Ardennes Four Color
Prior to 1944 the US had no standard guidelines for vehicle camouflage, and it was up to the individual unit to paint the vehicles as they deemed necessary.
Some units would use the experiences gained by their British ally and use a black and white outline to accentuate the contrast between two colors.
The Ardennes camouflage consist of dark green patches on the factory olive drab paint. The white and black outline creates a higher contrast between the two colors without making either of them stand out.
This creates a camouflage that is effective in mountain areas as well as in forest.

Olive Drab and Black
In April 1944 the US Army released the Field Manual 5-22B which contained guidelines to how to properly apply camouflage to vehicles.
It instructed soldiers in the field to apply patches of black paint over the factory olive drab color.
The black patches should cover all sharp corners to distort the silhouette of the vehicle.

Are you still missing YOUR favorite vehicle? Fear not, more vehicle paint jobs are on their way.

Today May 8th – Victory Day – marks the formal acceptance of Germany’s unconditional surrender of its armed forces in 1945 to the Allies of World War 2.

The actual surrender ceremony back in 1945 took place in Berlin, Germany – sometime rather late in the evening on May 8th.

While still working on the Mission Critical Projects outlined in the Development Overview, we also found time to deploy the minor update 1.10.2.
In addition to a new anti-cheat system and vehicle paint jobs the update contains hotfixes to address feedback provided by the community. We hope you all appreciate our efforts to address your feedback, please keep it coming!

New anti-cheat system allows us to focus more on the game
A new Anti-Cheat system, BattlEye, is now implemented to make Heroes & Generals fun and fair for everyone and provide an effective shield against cheats and hacks.
Licensing a well proven anti-cheat system like BattlEye frees up development resources that we can put towards improving and developing the game, benefitting you the players.
If you want to know more about BattlEye, have a look at this blog post.

Beware of friendly mines
It is no fun to place mines around a capture zone just to have friendly players shoot them to pieces – be it on purpose or by accident.
Taking community suggestions into consideration our solution to this issue is to add a -10 XP penalty if you destroy a friendly mine.
So you might want to start paying attention to those red danger indicators showing you where friendly mines are placed.

Adjusting cone fire and damage
We get a lot of valuable feedback from the community about the complex issue of balancing the weapons in Heroes & Generals, and based on this we have made a few adjustments.
The damage at range have been slightly increased for both the PPD-40 and PPSH-41, we also decreased the PPD-40 cone fire from 0.81° to 0,7° and the PPSH-41 cone fire from 0,78° to 0,7° – all of it to better align them with other submachine guns.
Players have also asked for the PTRD anti-tank rifle to be a bit more precise. To achieve this we lowered the cone fire from 1.2° to 0.8°.

Binocular switch exploit addressed
Community reported that some players exploited switching from a binocular to a weapon without aim being affected – in essence using binoculars as a makeshift scope.
To counter this exploit we have added a very slight hand movement effect when you switch from binocular to weapon. The movement is random and so slight that you won’t lose your orientation at all, but just enough for you to have to steady your aim again.

New batch of Vehicle Paint Jobs
With the 1.10.2 update we are adding another batch of vehicle paint jobs for all factions – among these and by popular demand two paint jobs for the classic Soviet Medium Tank T-34-85 Model 1944.

You will find new paint jobs for these nine vehicles:
  • US Medium Tank: M4A3E8 Sherman
  • US Heavy Tank: M4A3E2 Sherman ‘Jumbo’
  • US Recon Vehicle: M8 Greyhound
  • German Light Tank: Panzerkampfwagen II Ausf. C
  • German Medium Tank: Panzerkampfwagen Panther Ausf. G
  • German Recon Vehicle: SdKfz 222
  • Soviet Light Tank: T-26
  • Soviet Medium Tank: T-34-85 Model 1944
  • Soviet Recon Vehicle: BA-6
Have a look at all the new vehicle paint jobs in game. And if you want to know more about the different paint jobs, we have this blog post going into more detail.

You can always keep track of changes like these in our changelog, found at the bottom of this blog post.
Heroes & Generals - Reto.McFly
Heroes & Generals should be fun for everyone to play – and everyone should always play fair.

This is why we have licensed the anti-cheat system BattlEye trusting their 18 years of experience and dedicated specialization to the field to help ensure fair play in Heroes & Generals.

Maintaining our proprietary anti-cheat system required a great deal of resources to keep it up-to-date.

Licensing BattlEye, in addition to providing a professional anti-cheat service, frees up our valuable resources so we can put even more effort towards improving and developing the game.

This benefits you, the players!

Heroes & Generals - Reto.McFly
While the developers at RETO MOTO are still working on the important Mission Critical Projects outlined in the latest Letter from teh CEO and in the Development Overview – the developers also find time to have a look at some of the issues brought forward by the community.

Earlier today we deployed a number of hotfixes to address feedback provided by the community.

Extra experience for defenders
Attacking the enemy and capturing control points is the way to win a battle.
However, forgetting to defend what has already been captured is a sure way to lose everything.
That is why we have decided to award players an extra bonus for defending a capture zone.
If you kill an enemy while within a capture point you own, one that is at risk, you are awarded an additional ten experience for a kill no matter if the enemy is inside or outside the zone.

Enemy vehicles no longer visible in deploy menu
We have made sure to hide enemy vehicles while you are in the deploy menu. Only exception are enemy planes – as long as they are in the air. If the enemy lands his plane it becomes hidden.

Deploy vehicles can not be unlocked by friendlies
Infantry Vehicles such as Trucks and Half Tracks can provide a huge tactical advantage as mobile deploy points. However, if a friendly soldier unlocked your vehicle, it lost this specific ability. That is why with today’s hotfix unlocking such vehicles as a friendly is no longer possible.

Warning when trying to enter spawn protected vehicle
If you try to enter a spawn protected vehicle while visible you now get an error message saying: “Cannot enter Protected Vehicle” – so you at least know why you cannot enter it.

End game win bonuses split evenly
We have made a few changes to the end game win bonuses making sure that it is now split between the soldiers you used in a battle. As opposed to each soldier getting the full bonus.
We think this is a more fair way of distributing the bonus.

Adjusting experience for pilots
When we released the 1.09.1 update last year we made a promise to continue to monitor possibly tweak experience and earnings to uphold balance and make sure all types of soldiers are equally interesting to play in terms of progression and earnings.
That is why we have made further adjustments to pilot to align them with the other soldier types.

You can always keep track of changes like these in our changelog, found at the bottom of this blog post.

We are extending our range of helmet paints in Heroes & Generals. You can now can get the very exclusive Easter Egg helmet paint jobs.

A select few of you have already had the opportunity to try out the new paint jobs on the Prototype Server.

Today they have been made available for everyone.

We will make the beautiful Easter helmet paints the default for all soldiers types – BUT since some of you went ahead and purchased helmet paints and covers for gold, these will of course still be available.

However, if you haven’t purchased any specific helmet paint or cover, you will per default enjoy the bright colors and beautiful patterns of the new Easter helmet paints introduced into the game today.

Going forward we plan on having a whole range of mandatory seasonal helmets
  • The Christmas Antler helmet
  • The New Years Fireworks helmet
  • The Hallowar Jack O’Lantern helmet
  • The Tour de France bright yellow helmet
  • The Warlentine pink plush helmet

And as always you are more than welcome to contribute suggestions (or perhaps even mockups) for future seasonal helmet paints and covers 🙂
