Heroes & Generals - Reto.KenSolo
Have you had a chance to see the six time Oscar nominated movie Hacksaw Ridge yet? We did – and we think it is a pretty cool movie.

Hacksaw Ridge is about the World War 2 experiences of Desmond Doss, who was an American combat medic. The movie is directed by Mel Gibson and stars Andrew Garfield as Doss.

Actually the movie inspired us to introduce medkits into Heroes & Generals – something that has also been a much requested feature by the community. The medkits will be in the upcoming ‘Medic!’-update releasing March 21st.

The medkits will be available for all three factions and all soldier types in the game and enable you to heal both yourself and and your friends in the hellfire of battle – giving you just that extra edge needed to win the battle. We will reveal further details on medkits at a later date.

Exclusive movie and medkit bundle

Obviously Heroes & Generals and Hacksaw Ridge have the fact that both are set in the midst of World War 2 in common. However, there is also a shared dna beyond genre as a central theme to both movie and game is the notion, that one man’s actions and courage can make a difference in the war.

That is why we at Reto-Moto reached out to Lionsgate and Valve to put together an exclusive Steam bundle featuring the Hacksaw Ridge movie, a 14 day Veteran Membership and the Heroes & Generals Medkit & Medic Ribbon Boosters pre order DLC. This bundle is only available on Steam and only to US customers.

If you live outside of US, you can still get a hold of the Heroes & Generals Medkit & Medic Ribbon Boosters DLC as a stand alone Steam pre order DLC. It contains a medkit for one soldier plus 5 x Medic Ribbon Booster.

Please note that the Medkit and Medic Ribbon Booster will be made available to you in-game on March 21st, while the 14 day Veteran Membership will be activated on your first login after purchasing the DLC..

The Hacksaw Ridge/Heroes & Generals bundle and the Heroes & Generals Medkit & Medic Ribbon Boosters DLC is available until March 14th 2017.

Close Quarter Combat is inevitable in Control Points – here are five tips on creating a Close-Quarter Infantry soldier.

1: Sub-Machine Guns & Assault Rifles are your new best friends
Each type of weapon has unique advantages and disadvantages. The SMG’s and AR’s are most effective at close range while being able to move. With their larger ammo count and their often fast rate of fire they are capable of taking care of an enemy swiftly.

2: Explosives are effective
Explosives can be very effective to use – Grenades can help you clear rooms so you don’t have to engage with your opponent face to face. Also anti-personnel mines allow you to protect your back, they will trigger as soon someone walks over it.

3: Melee Combat can be silent but deadly
If you need a swift approach or don’t want players to know where you are, melee combat will help you out. With little sound they are effective at taking care of your opponent without anyone noticing. Knives, shovel or even the wrench can all be used for a silent kill.

4: You might need some wheels
Fighting in close quarters means you have to get into the combat zone quickly. All vehicles are suited for this, but keep an eye out for Halftracks and Cargo Trucks, which can be used to deploy in, so you’re at the frontline without risking exposure to the opponents between your objective and the opponents objective.

5: Consider using modifications
There are many different types of modifications possible. For a close range infantry it’s recommended to focus on damage and rate of fire. However, be careful, because you’ll sacrifice a lot of precision, stability and range.

Heroes & Generals - Reto.McFly
You are already devoted to the game and know every bit of it? Now we think it is time that you get to know the team a little better. So every once in a while we will introduce you to one of the people behind Heroes & Generals.

What’s the story of the tag?
My imagination was taking a day off when I was picking my Reto tag, so I just went with my first name Christian, and added the first letter of my surname Oelund. It might lack creativity, but it helps if you pronounce it with an Italian accent.

What is your position and what does that mean?
I am the Technical Artist and Graphics Designer. I work on the more technical aspects of anything involving assets in the game as well as developing tools and pipelines for the other artists to use. In addition to this I also do some of the research for the stuff that goes in the game.

What was the best thing to work on so far?
This would be the improved flight model and new planes. Although working on the system for the amphibious vehicles was also oddly satisfying.

What are you excited about in the future?
Revising the armor system on the vehicles, adding more vehicle classes, and generally giving the graphics a facelift.

What did you do before Reto?
I co-founded FirearmsMod for Half-life back in 1998 and worked on a few other mods for various engines. Worked at Flux Studios on an unreleased title. Did some work for the Necrovision games. And I’ve spent 10 years in the army, including three deployments.

What is the best thing about working at Reto?
Besides the fact that I get to make video games all day? … well, it’s nice to be around coworkers who are just as nerdy and passionate about their work as I am.

What is your favourite thing about H&G?
I love the combination of infantry, tanks, and planes all fighting in the same battles. And of course, what other war game has bicycles in it?

What are your hobbies?
I design and build custom stuff. I’ve done stage props, build robots, build a life sized anti-aircraft gun as a game controller, and even constructed a 100ft long inflatable whale.

Favourite Games/Games that inspired you to have a career in games?
Quake is probably the game that really got me started, and it is a game that I still enjoy playing.

What are your favourite books?
Anything by Terry Pratchett

Random Fun Fact about you
A U.S. Major General once threw pudding at me.

For RBS challenge number 12, it was all about teamwork. Furthermore, with Valentine's day on the way we decided to add a special category. We wanted to see who could create the most ROMANTIC video. BushElito decided to share his love in the first video of this challenge, earning him twp 30-day veteran voucher codes, one for himself and one for a friend.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srSsbq-mEyg
Of course we had many other contenders and with three more podium places to go, it's time to move on! What do you do when your plane goes down in the air? You ask Ted.The.Bear for a lift of course! Travelling with Ted.The.Bear does not come free though, it requires taking out one enemy plane. Check out his EPIC video to see if McknownPlayer has earned his lift!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cvlqo5kpRlY
Sometimes Ted.The.Bear does not ask you to shoot down a plane for a lift though, every once in a while, giving your life for a lift is allowed as well! Check the video below and see how Ted.The.Bear won his second place on the podium in this FUNNY teamwork video.

Every once in a while it might be a better idea to just walk, rather than jump on the back of friendly vehicle. iAmWeiser decided to re-educate his friends by showing them what can happen when you get on board his kübelwagen. Watch his FAIL video below to learn from the mistake of his friends!

In the RBS challenges, we want you to share your best video footage with us! So if you have any footage you really want to share with the rest of the community this is your chance! In these challenges we will even reward you with gold for the best videos!

The rules are simple, create a video lasting three minutes or less about the subject below. Do you want to see how you can participate? Check this link to find out more!

RBS challenge 13: High in the sky! (planes)
Enemy planes have been sighted in the area. It is your job to take them down! Every plane has been installed with brand new flight controls. Not only should this make your job a lot easier, they even come with several settings!

After jumping in your plane and taking off, you notice how smooth your plane feels. It does exactly what you want, when you want it. Before long you get behind an enemy plane, guns blazing you give him everything you got. But he too seems to have received an upgrade, maneuvering left and right, up and down trying to evade you. Suddenly he turns around and comes right for you! What happens next? Well, we hope you can tell us, or even better, show us in a video.

In this challenge we want to see pilots fly with the new control mechanics , all three settings are of course allowed to be used. That means that for this challenge, only footage from the current build is allowed. The video may last up to three minutes and can be submitted into one of the categories listed below. To participate in one of the categories, simply put ‘Epic, Funny or Fail’ in the title of the video.

For this challenge, you can submit your video into one of three categories:
  • Most Epic video
  • Funniest video
  • Biggest Fail video

Prizes
Of course, there are prizes to be won! In this challenge there are a total of nine prizes to be earned! Three in each category:
  • First prize: 2000 gold
  • Second prize: 1000 gold
