West Balkans for Euro Truck Simulator 2 has now been released!

Embark on an odyssey across our artistic depiction of the West Balkans, a huge playground waiting for you to uncover its wonders. Enjoy the journey, savouring each moment as you discover many features along the way:

• Travel through 8 new captivating countries, each with its unique charm.
  
• Discover 14 explorable cities including Split and Belgrade
  
• Take your truck on a drive through 30 vibrant towns (settlements)
  
• Experience the region's stunning nature, from Durmitor National Park to Bjeshkët e Nemuna National Park, with iconic mountains, hills, and mesmerizing sea views
  
• Explore unique depots for the aluminum industry, chemical factories and oil wells
  
• Take your cargo to 3 industrial ports along the Danube river (Belgrade, Novi Sad, Osijek)
  
• Marvel at the beauty of the historical city centres in Split, Mostar, Sarajevo, Pristina and more
  
• Cross the borders at over 20 unique crossings
  
• Enjoy the scenic countryside with 15 viewpoints and take a photo with your truck at 20 iconic landmarks

Starting with the release, there will also be three new ETS 2 bundles on Steam! Balkans Bundle; a thrilling road trip through the West Balkans, Road to the Black Sea, Going East DLCs; Baltic Bundle, journey through the Beyond the Baltic Sea, Going East, and Scandinavia DLCs; Mediterranean Bundle which includes the Iberia, Vive la France and Italia DLCs. All of these bundles also come with the base game and are a "Complete the set" type of bundle which means that you will be charged solely for DLCs that are not already in your library!





Starting with the release, there will be a special #CruisingTheBalkans World of Trucks event, where you can earn unique rewards by completing deliveries TO or FROM 15 cities either from the West Balkans or the Road to the Black Sea DLCs. The community goal is to drive 300,000,000 km while delivering cargoes to or from any city in West Balkans and/or Road to the Black Sea DLCs.

Join us on Thursday, the 19th of October, as we celebrate the completion of the Balkans with the release of our West Balkans DLC and a special World Of Trucks event - Cruising The Balkans! In this event we are enabling players to take part using either West Balkans or Road to the Black Sea DLC, or both!


The new West Balkans DLC is offering 30 beautiful cities to discover. Together with the 30 unique cities of the Road to the Black Sea DLC, that's 60 amazing cities to explore in this event!

During #CruisingTheBalkans you'll explore beautiful landscapes and scenic routes past forests, rivers, mountains and coastlines, while contributing to the bountiful economy of both DLCs. With the region spreading so far and wide, it supports an incredibly wide variety of animals and wildlife. It is home to the grey wolf, brown bear, fallow and red deer, and the Dalmatian pelican, one of the biggest freshwater birds, which enjoys feeding on the many species of fish that can be found. Hermann's Tortoises, popular with tourists, can also be seen near many water areas and rivers.

Besides breathtaking nature, the Balkans also offers various economic regions of interest. On your journeys you'll drive through many unique cities, industrial areas, and large seaports that are crucial for its economy. Truckers can look forward to exploring new industries, like delivering Caravans to the Car Dealers where people make their travel dreams on wheels come true.

During your journey through the Balkans, you can look forward to many viewpoints and highlights of the new region of the West Balkans DLC:

• Dubrovnik, coastal city with an impressive bridge offering a stunning view
  
• Durrës Marina, a beautiful port
  
• Pristina, picturesque city with narrow streets and small shops
  
• Sarajevo, historic town of interesting architecture
  
• Tara Bridge, famous mountainous location with a zip line

As with past cruising events, you can use your own trailer and experience all these in the external market!



Since Road to the Black Sea DLC and West Balkans DLC are part of the #CruisingTheBalkans event, with so many cities to experience, we are giving you the opportunity to complete a community goal and up to 2 personal goals, one for each DLC. Completing both personal goals will certainly be worth it since their rewards, when combined, will create an incredibly beautiful matching truck and trailer paint job combo!




Using External Contracts or External Market, with a World of Trucks-connected profile in Euro Truck Simulator 2, the community goal is to drive 300,000,000 km while delivering cargoes to or from any city in West Balkans and/or Road to the Black Sea DLCs.

This event offers you up to 2 personal goals to complete:

• Personal goal for West Balkans DLC: Complete a delivery to or from at least 15 unique cities.
  
• Personal goal for Road to the Black Sea DLC: Complete a delivery to or from at least 15 unique cities.

All jobs for the event need to be at least 200 km, or more.

You can check if your recent deliveries met these conditions using your Log Book in your World of Trucks profile.


Community: When the community goal of driving 300,000,000 km is met, and if the player has also achieved either personal goal, they will receive a hanging Dalmatian Pelican ornament as Steam inventory item.


Personal for West Balkans: Gain a personal World of Trucks Achievement and an awe-inspiring Nature's Embrace themed, ETS2 truck paint job Steam inventory item.


Personal for the Road to the Black Sea: Gain a personal World of Trucks Achievement and a beautiful Nature's Embrace themed, ETS2 trailer paint job Steam inventory item.


Note: In order to qualify for the community reward, you must complete at least one personal goal in Euro Truck Simulator 2. Each reward will be a Steam inventory item for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Once completed, claim your reward in the Events page on your World of Trucks profile.

The event will be concluded on Tuesday the 19th of December at 23:59 UTC.

Today, we're thrilled to announce a small but significant update that reflects our commitment to the future and sustainability, both in the real world and in the virtual realm of Euro Truck Simulator 2.


To sum it up, Krone Trailers and Trailer Dynamics have joined forces to pioneer an innovative electrified trailer concept that's set to transform the transport industry. This collaboration has resulted in a special trailer equipped with an electrified axle, a great addition that not only adds horsepower to the truck-trailer combination but also reduces fuel consumption and emissions. The electric axle on the trailer acts as a powerful assistant, effectively pushing the truck and trailer forward.


This advanced technology has been showcased at the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship (ETRC) races, where Krone and Trailer Dynamics have been on a mission to achieve record runs at renowned race tracks. Their goal is clear - to demonstrate that sustainability can be exciting and emotional, proving that it's not just about reducing emissions but also about embracing the future. Now, here's where you, our fantastic ETS2 community, come into play. Krone Trailers has invited us to be a part of their trailer technology revolution and to give you a sneak peek into this exciting partnership. We're releasing a special teaser – a unique paint job for Krone Trailers. On one hand, this paint job is a hint of the electrifying future to come, and on the other, it's a symbol of our collaboration with one of the industry's biggest trailer manufacturers and a pioneer in technology. We hope that soon you'll be able to experience the eTrailer and more electrified content in our game. We will still need to further understand the technology itself and explore the potential possibilities of implementing it into the in-game world of ETS2. As of now, it would be too soon to give an estimate for when this new technology might make its way into the game, but we are ready to start working on it as soon as possible.


But that's not all! We're planning a special SCS On The Road episode to delve deeper into this new technology and showcase Krone's eTrailer in all its glory. Keep an eye out for updates on that!

With the West Balkans DLC just around the corner, we are releasing the 1.48.5 Update for Euro Truck Simulator 2. We haven’t bumped the game version all the way up by a whole number, as this update is focused on some specific content additions as well as some under the hood maintenance with code-based improvements.



With the West Balkans DLC on the horizon, we are hard at work behind the scenes, bug-fixing and polishing; making sure everything is in place for a smooth release. This includes tirelessly iterating over multiple databases with the world economy and route access topology, and sometimes implementing related code changes and cleanups.

In addition to under-the-hood data changes, there are still some visible highlights of this update - the inclusion of new map content! Players can look forward to exploring the newly added city of Trieste, along with the updated cities of Ancona and Bari. These changes were previously described on our blog, so for more details, check out the dedicated articles here (Ancona + Bari) and here (Trieste).




As you can tell, the ETS2 1.48.5 Update is an important step in preparing for the West Balkans release, as it brings with it not only bug fixes but also exciting new map content that will allow better connection to the new part of the games universe.




However that isn't all, as there are some changes coming in this release that were not originally a part of the 1.48.5 Open Beta, including the fact that American Truck Simulator will also be receiving the 1.48.5 update later in the month too. This is because we are introducing 2 new changes which we believe players will benefit from. These are Faster Loading Times and an FPS Limiter.

Faster Loading Times

After an update, it has historically taken our titles a while to re-cache and update navigation data. Recently we were able to optimise this data and speed up the process considerably. Thanks to this update, the loading process is around 6 times faster! This also includes loading times for the company directory, which is loaded each time you start the game, which is 23 times faster than previous builds. We hope that you enjoy this small quality of life change.

Frame Rate Limiter

This was a feature that was quite highly requested by our community. This limiter is aimed mostly at those with a more powerful GPU. It was reported that when alt-tabbed outside the sim, GPUs would run at 100% since it was still trying to render the maximum number of frames possible. Because of this, we have placed a cap of 300 FPS to limit GPU usage, while not limiting most monitors. While this is still a bit experimental, we look forward to hearing your feedback.

However, rest assured we are still working hard on bringing you the best experience possible while upgrading Switzerland to the current standards. And while there is still quite a lot of work to be done, today, we’ll show you something that will restart the hype train once again, as we tell you a bit about Mont Blanc!


Mont Blanc, the crown jewel of the Alps, is a breathtaking natural wonder that has captivated travelers and adventurers for centuries. Towering majestically over the border of France and Italy, it is the highest peak in Western Europe. While Mont Blanc itself is not part of Switzerland, you can see that the work of our dedicated team reaches beyond the borders and we couldn’t overlook the important gateway that is the Mont Blanc tunnel.






Speaking of the Mont Blanc tunnel - this virtual rendition of the iconic tunnel connects the Chamonix Valley on the French side with the Aosta Valley on the Italian side. But, most importantly, many of you have long been awaiting the addition of the A40 and E25 roads, and we can’t wait for you to travel to or from Switzerland through these new additions.

The heart of Pinktober lies in knowledge and awareness. Understanding the signs and symptoms of breast cancer is crucial to early detection and better outcomes. Regular self-checks and consultations with healthcare professionals are essential practices that can save lives and by educating ourselves and sharing this knowledge with loved ones, we contribute to the larger mission of breast cancer awareness.

Pinktober reminds us that our health should always be our top priority. Prioritizing regular health check-ups, screenings, and promoting these practices among our friends and family is a fundamental message of the campaign.

Every year, compassionate virtual truckers come together to support the battle against breast cancer. While many choose to make direct donations or raise awareness in creative ways, we offered an alternative a few years ago, as our team decided to join this noble cause with a Pink Ribbon Charity Event. In 2019, we introduced two special DLCs for American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 from which 100% of the income goes to charity every year.

If you're looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact and add some unique paint jobs to your trucks, now is the perfect time to grab these DLCs or gift them to friends. You can also spread awareness by decorating your trucks with these paint jobs and sharing your support on social media under #Pinktober2023.



Last year, we made a slight change in our charity approach - instead of dividing the funds, we decided to direct the entire sum raised from the DLCs to a local charity, the Alliance of Women with Breast Cancer. This time we will keep the same approach, so, stay tuned to our blog at the end of the month as we'll provide an update on this year's Pinktober, including the final donation amount.

We’d like to extend our gratitude to all who have generously supported Pinktober throughout the years. Your contributions, whether through donations, raising awareness, or attending awareness seminars, make a significant difference in the fight against breast cancer. On your travels in the West Balkans region, you will encounter a large variety of road signage featuring a range of different languages. Our signage, assets and research teams have been working together to create accurate and realistic signs; which we are happy to share some examples of with you today.


Each region has its own unique signage, which road users must understand and obey. These signs can indicate to drivers a range of information such as dangers on the road ahead to posted speed limits or alternative routes.







We spoke with our 'Road Sign Specialist' Voytek, and asked him if he had a rough idea of how many signs have been created for this upcoming DLC. "Over 1600 unique navigation signs have been created for the West Balkans and only a small part of them was altered to match the in-game situation, with almost all of them true to their real-life counterparts. It's again a record over our previous additions."







Along with the native languages spoken across the West Balkans, you'll also find some signs that feature bilingual texts, or two different alphabets. These can often be found on navigation signs or toll signage.








So when it comes to travelling to the West Balkans, be sure to take a good look at the signs when you pass them. They'll contain all the information you need for a safe drive on the road.
