Last month, we revealed the first city that will receive a new look in the second phase of the rework of German cities that is coming in the 1.48 update for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Today, we are very excited to let you know that Rostock will be a part of this phase as well, and there are many changes coming to this historic city.
The city has been rebuilt from scratch with a brand-new layout, along with the E55 and E22 roads and highways around Rostock which have also been modified and redesigned. As you enter the city from the E55, you will drive through the logistics part of Rostock, which features a garage, a service station, a truck dealer (Renault), and a supermarket depot.
As you leave the logistics part of the city, you will approach the historical part of Rostock, where you will be greeted by a stunning view of three churches: St. Peter, St. Nicholas, and St. Mary. Across from the historical part of the city is a newly constructed harbor area, where players can look forward to the new marina depot. The harbor area also features landmarks such as Mönchentor gate, houses with unique architecture, icebreaker Stephan Jantzen, as well as Circus Fantasia a little further on.
Rostock is located on the shores of the Baltic Sea and at the mouth of the Varnava River. The Varnava flows into the sea in the north of the city, and at this confluence is the port of Rostock. Players can follow the city circuit to reach the port, which has four parts that feature unique depots that copy the industry of the Rostock port. Moreover, a new wind tower factory depot is designed specifically for this port. Players can also catch ferries to Gedser and Trelleborg from the port of Rostock and there is also a new railway terminal depot just under the ferry.
So, freunde, how much are you looking forward to this phase of rework of German cities? Let us know in the comments! There are still a couple of locations we’d like to show you in the future, so, to not miss out on any official news, give us a follow on social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) and keep an eye out for any updates.
Grüezi, welcome to Zurich, Switzerland - a city that offers a perfect blend of modernity and tradition, set amidst stunning natural beauty. You may already be familiar with this charming compact city in Euro Truck Simulator 2, however today, we are happy to share with you a look into the transformation that has been carried out in our ongoing Switzerland Rework project.
As we've done for many cities in rework projects, the current 'old' city of Zurich in ETS2 was completely deleted so that our team could rebuild the entire area from scratch. This allows us to work with new tools and techniques that were not available or known to us previously when the base game was created.
From landmarks such as the Prime Tower, Zurich Museum, to the Hardbrucke and Limmat river, our team has been hard at work reworking the city in detail. Behind each city, you'll find numerous industries looking for drivers to transport goods and Zurich is no exception. From small local businesses to large industrial depots, truckers will have no shortage of jobs in this area. A car dealership, train loading depot, electronics factory, gas plants are just some of the industries you'll be able to deliver to and from in and around the city.
Our team have also paid particular attention to the road network in and around Zurich, bringing some of the iconic bridges, intersections and highway junctions into Euro Truck Simulator 2. Cars and Trucks are not the only vehicles sharing the road in the city however, you'll also have to keep an eye out for Trams.
There is a lot of work and attention that has gone into Zurich, so we don't want to ruin it all once! We will leave it up to you to explore when the time comes. Are you excited to visit? Let us know in the comments!
We hope you enjoyed seeing all of the progress out teams have made on the Switzerland Rework. We look forward to sharing more inside looks on the development progress in the near future. Be sure to follow us on our Social Media pages to keep up to date with all the latest. Uf Widerluege!
The oil industry in Albania has a long history, dating back to the early 1900s when the country began commercial oil production. Today, Albania has a relatively small oil industry compared to other countries in the region, but it remains an important contributor to the country's economy.
The town of Fier, located in southwest, is one of the main centres of oil production in the country; which we've recreated in our upcoming West Balkans DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Here, drivers will be able to take on delivery contracts from the oil well, which is the first of its kind in ETS2.
Our team have paid particular attention to detail to this industry, which features a completely new depot with new assets which have been custom made. The surrounding area has also been built around this new industry, bringing players a more true to life experience when delivery from this area.
The oil extracted from these wells are transported to refineries and storage facilities located elsewhere in the country; so be assured there will be plenty of opportunities to haul from here and across the West Balkans region.
We look forward to sharing more in-depth development blogs in the future which will feature local industries and more. Like what you see? Consider adding the West Balkans DLC to your Steam Wishlist, it really helps support our studio and we thank those that have done so already!
I think we can all agree that roads are pretty important to drivers, no matter where you're going (unless it's back to the future). In our upcoming West Balkans DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2, we've paid particular attention to the road networks in the 8 countries included in this expansion.
Players can look forward to an array of various road networks including new modern highways, some of which have recently opened, or are planned to be in use in the near future. These highways are generally the fastest route to your destination, and in some places offer some unique views for drivers. One such example can be found on the coast of Crotia, where the highway (and surrounding junctions) boldly passes right through the middle of a mountainous area.
Outside of Highways, there is also the network of smaller roads that serve smaller communities, towns and villages all across the West Balkans. These range from roads at sea level all the way up to the mountains; and are a little bit more rugged than the new highways.
We've also included a few roads that lead right through the some of the larger cities, as opposed to driving around the centre where larger trucks are usually prohibited. Be careful though, some of the roads around the city may not be suited for larger vehicles. Players can also look forward to detailed road signage, if you prefer to navigate the old school way, across all countries!
There will also be plenty of bridges, roundabouts, tunnels and level crossings which we will showcase once they are a little bit more polished. Until then, we hope these work in progress shots get you excited to get trucking in new territories. If you like what you see, be sure to add the West Balkans DLC to your Steam Wishlist; Until next time, happy trucking!
We are happy to announce that the 1.47 update for Euro Truck Simulator 2 has been released and is now available on Steam. This update features bug fixes, changes and new content, which are featured below, so we recommend taking a read!
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated, provided their feedback, and made bug reports during the 1.47 Open Beta. Your valuable input helped us make tweaks, changes and squash some bugs we may have missed the first time around. We hope you can now begin to fully enjoy the fruits of your work.
Germany Rework
As part of our Revisiting Germany project, our team has recently reworked the cities of Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Nurnberg and Erfurt completely from the ground up. This includes landmarks, road networks, industries and so much more!
For those who are new to our game, the Revisiting Germany project consists of a small dedicated map team, who has been working hard to update one of the oldest map sections of the base game to align with our current development standards.
Each city which we have worked on in this update has its own dedicated blog, which we recommend going back and reading. Each one contains information unique to its project, and what changes you can expect to see in these areas.
We really hope that you enjoy these reworked cities as part of the free 1.47 update and we look forward to bringing you more news in the future regarding our rework project.
Ownable Gas Cisterns
Are you ready to haul your very own Gas Cisterns in Euro Truck Simulator 2? As we covered in a previous blog post, Ownable Gas Cisterns are available in this update! These trailers will come in a variety of lengths, chassis and customisation options. These cisterns are designed to transport dangerous and highly flammable gases such as Ethane, Propane and LPG (Liquefied petroleum gas).
The Ownable Gas Cistern for Euro Truck Simulator 2 will be available in the most common trailer combinations found in Europe. This being the Single 2-axle 10 metre chassis with a 40m3 Gas Tank and single 3-axle 12 metre chassis with a 50m3 gas tank. Accessories included (but are not limited to):
Paintable/Chrome Boxes
Valve boxes with additional toolboxes, sideguards etc
Fire extinguishers
A variety of rear fenders and rear bumper lights
A variety of hoses
A variety of trailer paintjobs
and so much more!
We look forward to seeing you deliver with these new Ownable Gas Cisterns and how you will customize them. Be sure to share your first ride with them on our social media channels.
Ownable Livestock Trailers
Gas cisterns are not the only new trailers in town, introducing purchasable livestock trailers!
Players familiar with this type of trailer in American Truck Simulator might already be a bit ahead in regards to what makes this addition so special, but to bring everyone up to speed, you will have an opportunity to transport cattle and pigs in your very own trailer ETS2! In addition to having different body and chassis customizations, here is a detailed list of everything else you will be able to tweak:
Left/right/front/rear body
Markers
Side protection plates/boxes
Rear fenders
Rear bumpers
Rear mudflaps
We can’t wait for you to start exploring the roads of Euro Truck Simulator 2 with the brand-new livestock trailer. You can read more about these unique trailers at our dedicated blogpost about the subject.
Adaptive Cruise Control & Emergency Braking System
Released originally as a hidden experimental feature back in 1.44, we are glad to be able to bring this highly requested addition to the 1.47 update. Adaptive Cruise Control automatically adjusts the distance and speed from the vehicle in front when in cruise control mode. This is especially handy when encountering a busy highway, where you may find traffic often merging into a gap in front of you, or in situations where traffic speed is constantly changing.
Coupled with ACC is the Emergency Braking System, which activates your brakes whenever a collision is imminent with the vehicle in front, to avoid or minimize damage. This technology in the real world has saved countless lives and is found in most modern trucks.
These features have been in the works for a while and thanks to your feedback, we have made quite a few changes internally. We plan to continue to fine-tune this feature going into the future.
Uneven Surface Simulation
We're excited to introduce Uneven Surface Simulation into 1.47! These small bumps are procedurally generated to give roads and other terrains an imperfect feel to them. While they may not be visible to the driver, you will be able to feel these subtle bumps and in some cases hear them affect your vehicle whilst driving.
We look forward to working on expanding this feature in the future, but for the time being, let us know your thoughts about it!
Custom City Intros - Road to the Black Sea DLC
Carrying on from our previous update which introduced custom city intros in the Iberia DLC, we have now expanded these cutscenes to the Road to the Black DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2!
These special cutscenes appear when a player selects a starting city when creating a new profile. We hope that new players (or those restarting a new profile) will enjoy these new additions, showcasing the area where you have chosen to begin!
Career History UI Redesign
This update also includes a refresh for the Career History UI! For those who are unfamiliar with this feature, you can access it via the main menu of American Truck Simulator or Euro Truck Simulator 2. It displays a graph of your experience progress and some statistics.
This new redesign will now feature a much more detailed look into your statistics and previous deliveries. The UI now shows 4 sections which are: Deliveries, Exploration, Driver Experience, and Penalties. Each of these sections displays different statistics that give you a more in-depth review of your journey as a truck driver so far including total deliveries, your past delivery ratings, how many of your deliveries were on time, map exploration, companies visited, truck data and discoveries.
We've also included a section that'll show what penalties you have received over the last 2 weeks of your career. We felt that little things such as hitting traffic signs or falling asleep at the wheel don't need to be on your permanent record.
We've also redesigned your delivery log which shows clearly your previous jobs, your cargo, what day you made the delivery on, income, XP, time spent etc. We understand that these statistics are important for drivers to look back on, especially if you are part of a VTC where you may need to log your previous jobs for driver activity.
We really hope you like this redesign, and we hope we can expand on it in the future.
In-Game Update Log
We've now added a new UI feature to both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator which will show users the changelog of a major update or showcase the featured DLC release.
This will appear in the form of a pop-up either when you launch the game after an update or whilst in-game in the main menu if an update was made during your time on the road. Not only that, but you can also access a history of previous changelogs, in-case you missed out on several, and find all our official social media links.
We hope this helps you stays informed no matter where you are on the latest changes and updates made to our titles.
Economy Reset Teleport
Whenever the player's economy is reset during a game load, it was the norm for you to be teleported to your HQ garage. Today we are happy to make a small change that will allow you a free quick travel to any service station of your choice after a game change was detected. We hope this feature helps continue your journey quickly and easily!

New Editor Features added - more details on Modding Wiki
In addition to the new content that is coming to American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 in the 1.47 update, we will also be introducing two brand new special transport routes - one for each game. There is an interesting backstory behind the creation of these new routes and we are excited to tell you all about it today.
Special Transport missions have been a fan favorite since their release, providing unique challenges for players. However, revisiting and updating the content of these routes in updates or new expansions can be a significant load and commitment considering it was done by one person alone - Nemiro. But, as our team grows and our know-how is shared across the company, we are excited that more of our colleagues found interest and time to get involved in "servicing" these DLCs.
Over the past few weeks, two new small teams have formed and we have shared the knowledge with them through a few sessions. Both teams have created their first routes for the Special Transport DLCs, and they have turned out so exceptionally well that we have decided to include them in the nearest update for all the players to enjoy. We hope you will all appreciate the new routes and the fact that expanding our internal teams could mean more routes in the future.
The two new routes are:
Barcelona to Vandallos
Truckee to Oakland
To leave on a high note, we would also like to mention that something interesting related to Special Transport is currently shaping up in our vehicle department, but that’s all that we can say for now. For any potential updates and news, follow our social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) and stay in touch with all the latest announcements.
Our rework team is currently working hard on bringing Switzerland up to the current standards, and there is one particular aspect of the country that is impossible to overlook - the Alps. Offering magnificent views, the newly added roads will make it worth your while to visit.
More than half of the Swiss territory lies in the Alps, which makes it one of the most mountainous countries in Europe. The Alps include stunning landscapes with snow-capped peaks, green valleys, and water bodies, and the rework of Switzerland in Euro Truck Simulator 2 will capture this beautiful essence with awesome detailed additions such as the glacier in which the river Rhone originates, which you will be able to directly pass by.
One of the main attractions of the Switzerland rework in Euro Truck Simulator 2 is the three possible routes through the Alps from north to south. These routes offer a unique driving experience, and each one has its charm.
The first route is the Great St. Bernard Pass, which is located on Route 27 and is famous for its tunnel. The second route is the Gotthard Pass, which is located on the A2 motorway and features the well-known road and rail tunnel. The third route is through the Val Mesolcina valley, which is located on the A13 motorway.
We will also add the A9 road which will be the topic of a separate blog post in the future. For now, we hope you are already looking forward to the fresh content in Switzerland and we can’t wait for you to check these marvelous mountain roads out. For any updates regarding the date of when this update will be available make sure to follow our social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) to stay in touch with all the latest news.
We’ve previously slightly touched upon the topic of what makes the West Balkans DLC unique by talking about the local culture. Today, we’ll shape the image of the region even further by showing you screenshots representing the architecture, along with bits of brief information as well.
The West Balkans DLC will include a diverse range of architectural styles. Countries like Albania, Croatia and Montenegro have a strong Mediterranean influence mainly reflected in lots of balconies, some of them facing the sea (the balconies actually appear often in all the states located next to the Mediterranean Sea). Albania has something even more specific - a high amount of family houses that are always under construction.
Meanwhile, Serbia and North Macedonia (specifically Skopje) still have a somewhat brutalist character, with its monstrous concrete blocks of flats still standing as a reminder of its past.
Slovenia, on the other hand, has a mix of architectural styles, partly suffused with Alpine architecture with high gabled roofs. In old cities like Sarajevo, there is a lot of old architecture that has been preserved and stands as a testament to the entire region's rich history.
However, it's not just the diversity of architectural styles that makes the map expansion exciting, but also the fact that the dedicated team has produced a bunch of specific assets just for the DLC. These will eventually come in handy in some cities, where you will be able to get to the center and experience interesting landmarks up close!
All in all, architecture is always under many influences and we hope you will truly immerse in the local atmosphere while driving across West Balkans map expansion. We still have more topics in store for you, so make sure to follow our social media profiles (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) to always be notified of any potential news or updates.
Today, we are happy to share with you that the 1.47 Open Beta branch for Euro Truck Simulator 2 is now available to try and test out.
