Aircraft Carrier Deck Crew Animations A key aspect of creating the new Nimitz-class aircraft carrier module is the inclusion of animated deck crew. These are particularly vital for launch operations from the bow and waist catapults. This includes yellow shirt plane directors, green shirt catapult crew, red shirt weapons crews, etc. Between the animated deck crew, advanced carrier radio communications, and a highly detailed carrier model, we are striving to create the most detailed and accurate carrier environment ever done for the PC.
Also, to update you on how we will handle the new carrier in network play, the new carrier will appear in network missions, even if you do not own the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier module. As such, even if you do not own the module, you can still join missions that include it. However, if you do not own this carrier module, you will be unable to start from this carrier, land on it, or experience the deck crew and radio communications.
F-16C Audio A very important aspect of developing the most realistic F-16C simulation possible will be the audio environment. This includes all the sounds within the cockpit like voices messages and beeps and boops, but also the external engine sounds, fly-by sounds, and all the other sounds that make an F-16C sounds like an F-16C.
In this video we have a sample of the new audio technology recently developed that or Viper takes advantage of.
Free Normandy Map Update Coming In May 2017, Urga Media released their DCS: Normandy 1944 map for DCS World. The map focused on the landing beaches of Normandy and points south to encompass the breakout period in June 1944. The entire map also includes portions of southern England and areas outside the landing and breakout area to the south at a lower level of detail. The total map size is 267 x 348 kilometers and includes many period specific buildings, bridges, vehicles, windmills, and other objects that populate the map. This has been the ideal map for World War II combat and even low-altitude helicopter flying.
Since the release and a large update to this map, Urga Media has been very busy to two primary items: The DCS: Syria map and another large, free, update to the Normandy map!
This free Normandy map update will include the following:
Improved quality of ground textures (fields and urban areas).
Improved quality of the noise textures. This will be particularly evident at low altitudes.
Improved quality of the coastline, both in Normandy and along the English coast.

DCS World Open Beta Update Due to a third-party module not being quite ready in time to make the Open Beta 2.5.5 release this week, we have to push 2.5.5 to next Wednesday, 5 June. We apologize for the delay. We hope you will enjoy the Open Beta update that will include VR optimization for the Caucasus and Persian Gulf maps, as well as AGM-154 JSOW for the Hornet.
A little update is in order. As most of you know by now, we had to push back OB 2.5.5 to next week in order to give a 3rd party more time to update their code to the new branch (no need to name names). As such, 2.5.5 is slated for 5 June and will include AGM-154A and C. I plan an introduction video this weekend to get you up to speed.
As noted earlier, the Litening targeting pod went into internal test at the of this month and we are currently on track to release it to you in June. We still first release on station 5, but later add option for the cheek station.
The team has also been busy improving the D/L, working on MSI for LTWS, working on Harpoon integration, fixed the HARM seeker when lock is lost, waypoint PRECISE mode, returning to work on the EW page, and implementing the MIDS page. The Hornet guys have been quite busy.

Pre-order the Fw 190 A-8 now and save 20% off from DCS e-shop
Designed for the German Luftwaffe by famed aircraft designer Kurt Tank in the late-1930s, the Fw 190 was the backbone of the Luftwaffe in both fighter and attack bomber roles. Powered by a large radial engine, the A version of the Focke-Wulf 190 was superior in many ways to the Bf 109s and Spitfires at the time of its introduction. In fact, this led to the development of the Mk.IX version of the Spitfire. The Spitfire LF Mk.IX and the Fw 190 A-8 make excellent counterparts for DCS World. The Fw 190 later evolved into the Fw 190 D-9, also available on DCS World.
Many of the Luftwaffe’s aces racked up their impressive kill counts in the Fw 190 A due to its impressive fire power, excellent low to medium altitude performance, durability, and ease of flying. It saw action on both the eastern and western fronts where it was both respected and feared by allied pilots. Armament included two fuselage-mounted 13 mm MG 131 machine guns and four wing-mounted MG 151/20E 20 mm cannons. The aircraft could also be loaded with unguided rockets and bombs.
The A-8 version of the Fw 190 entered production in February 1944, and it was powered by a BMW 801 D-2 radial engine. In addition to excellent low- and medium-altitude performance, the engine was also very rugged. Along with the F-8 version, it also had thicker armor around the engine. The engine also received the C3 injection system that provided an emergency boost of 1,980 PS in short durations.
Key features of the DCS: Fw 190 A-8:
Unmatched flight physics that allow you to truly feel what it's like to fly this legend.
The I-16 was a Soviet, monoplane fighter developed during the 1930s inter-war years. It was innovative for its time with a low-wing cantilever design and retractable landing gear. It was the USSR’s primary fighter at the start of World War 2 where it primarily battled the Bf 109 Emil. In addition to the Second World War, the I-16 was also used in the Spanish Civil War and the second Sino-Japanese War.
The I-16 type 24 was powered by an M-63 radial engine that gave it a top speed of 462 kph. The aircraft was armed with four 7.62 ShKAS machine guns. In total, 7,000 single seat versions of this famous fighter were built.
The I-16 is a fun and interesting aircraft and further grows our stable of warbirds. This aircraft is particularly interesting when flown in virtual reality. Key features of DCS: I-16 by OctopusG include:
Detailed animated 3D fighter model
True interactive cockpit providing 6DoF
Realistic simulation of aircraft systems including electric and fuel flow system, engine system and lighting facilities
Realistic simulation of unique mechanical landing gear retraction system
