Apologies for the lack of Hornet news of late. I’ve been a bit unwell lately and the team has been focused on more difficult tasks, so progress has been slower.
The big items (in no particular order) that we are working on for the Hornet include: Cleaning up the JDAM and adding new features to the JDAM Adding the JSOW (already in internal test) Add full simulation of GPS and INS alignment and navigation systems PRECISE waypoint input mode Correcting HARM guidance MIDS for LTWS and TWS Litening II targeting pod
Regarding PB mode for HARM, we decided to push this back for two reasons: 1- based on client feedback, the targeting pod is much more in demand, and 2- we first want to complete the new waypoint database system that will allow creating of PB points.
Wanna know how we make the best simulation of the P-51D you can find, ask our boss after he lands :) -NineLine/Norm

This week we are going to take it back to the first WWII aircraft to grace the skies in DCS World, the P-51D Mustang. Just recently a second variant was added to the sim and new cockpit textures, check them out here being shown off by Spudknocker.
As well, we released a new updated Mustang Trailer, if you haven't seen it, check it out here: DCS: P-51D Mustang - P-51D-25-NA and P-51D-30-NA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77YTorSbjpI
To get started, lets check out The WarSimmer as he walks you through Start up to Landing! DCS P-51D or TF-51 Tutorial: Cold Start, Taxi, Takeoff, Landing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9AsrLhgOek
First released several years ago as our first DCS World War II fighter, we recently revisited the Mustang and provide an all new cockpit and external model using modern rendering techniques like deferred shading and physical based rendering. We also added the option to fly two versions of the P-51D: the P-51D-25-NA and the P-51D-30-NA that were used in the European and Pacific theaters of operation.
With development ongoing on a new damage model system, new WWII aircraft like the Fw 190 A8 and P-47D, new dogfight AI, new World War II maps, period World War II radio communications, and a dynamic campaign, take advantage of these great savings.
DCS: F/A-18C Hornet, DCS: Persian Gulf Map, and DCS: Christen Eagle II at 25% off.
DCS: F-14 Tomcat and DCS: MiG-19P are not on sale given their recent release.
Our next planned sale will not be until summer 2019. Take advantage of these great savings while they last.
Thank you and enjoy!
DCS World Open Beta Update This week we updated the DCS World Open Beta with special attention to the Hornet. The Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) now has improvements to the flight model/autopilot. With this enhancement, we can later add programming of terminal attack parameters like heading, impact angle, and velocity. We have also tuned its Launch Acceptable Region (LAR) logic, glide range, and corrected a crash bug related to quantity settings. The team is now hard at work on implementing the AGM-154 Joint Stand-Off Weapon (JSOW) and Multi-Sensor Integration (MSI) for Latent Track While Scan (LTWS) mode for an upcoming update.
You can read the complete Open Beta changelog here.
To better support JDAM coordinate targeting in Pre-Planned mode, we have plan to later add the ability to display coordinates on the Mission Editor map and the F10 View map Degrees/Minutes/Seconds/Decimal values. Cycle through coordinate display option available by press [Left Alt + Y] or you can change it in the options menu. Once you enter Degrees/Minutes/Seconds, press ENT on the UFC to then enter the two-digit decimal value and then press ENT again on the UFC.
SA-5 “Gammon” SAM Coming to DCS World To further include a comprehensive set of Soviet/Russian air defence systems, we will be adding the SA-5 Gammon (S-200) Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) system. The SA-5 is a very long-range SAM that was designed in the 1960s to primary counter long-range bombers. Each missile has four, large rocket boosters attached to the central core rocket. The SA-5 is often compared to the Space Shuttle at launch. Under optimal conditions, the SA-5 can engage targets out to 300 km and 40,000 meters in altitude. Maximum speed is approximately Mach 4.
In the nose of the missile is a semi-active radar homing seeker that homes in on radar guidance, in combination with mid-course correction, from the “Square Pair” engagement radar.
The missile is armed with a large 217 kg fragmentation warhead.
The SA-5 is a threat to high-value assets like AWACS and tankers that may stray to close to the battle area. Operated by both Syria and Iran, this SAM system will be a great addition to DCS World.
In parallel to this effort, we are also designing support for Integrated Air Defense System (IADS) networks and more advanced air defence AI to include shared-time searches, counter-SEAD/DEAD tactics, and SAM traps. Together, DCS will provide the most realistic and challenging air defence simulation to operate in.
All AIM-7 missiles have active guidance seekers like an AIM-120 - fixed.
M6 Linebacker will reload all Stingers by the stock for 240 seconds.
M192 HAWK launcher will reload faster, for 420 seconds.
After rearm SAM Hawk does not not attack enemy - fixed.
AIM-7 wing animation fixed.
AGM-88 adjusted accuracy. Autopilot tuning, overload rate response slightly decreased for avoid a hard bucketing.
AI S-3B can't takeoff from CVN-70 in some case - fixed.
Dedicated Server. Fix mission restart, now server not crashes even if next mission do not exists or broken.
AI aircraft will be accelerate to required speed for weapon launch if this weapon required certain minimum speed. For example ARM missile Kh-31 requires minimum 0.7M for sure launch.
MP. F10 map. With target mark on, the aircraft type, player nick and mark text is overlapped - fixed.
Flaming Cliffs 3
Duplicated input for Autopilot reset command in Su-27, 33 and Mig-29 aircraft both FC and standalone is now fixed.
MiG-29 throttle lag decreased (WIP)
DCS F/A-18C
JDAM accuracy increased.
JDAM crash fixed.
Added Training Day mission
The autostart procedure now automatically turns on the radios.
APU did not start up in some cases after repair - fixed.
After full depleted of fuel, the aircraft will not start even after refueling - now in this case it is necessary to make repairs.
This week will be a bit of a shorter one with all the holidays, and everyone enjoying their new modules they got with the Easter Sale, but I think many of you will still find it useful. Recently, we added the much awaited Dedicated Server. We have a few tips on how to use it, you can find most of what you need here:
This should get you started, as well we have improvements for the entire process coming soon, and will update you in future Tutorials Tuesdays! Thanks ED Team
This week we are going to go back in time a little further. The Me-109K-4 is one of a number of WWII aircraft available in DCS World. The Kurfürst was the last production model of the iconic German fighter. With continued improvements ongoing such as the cockpit and damage model, this module continues to be one of the most enjoyable aircraft in the sim to fly.
The Me-109K-4 has been out for some time, and has amassed a number of tutorials over the years.
As well you can find a number of startup videos to watch before attempting yourself: DCS:World - Bf-109 K-4 Cold Start Procedure https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1QfRSEAMng
Take off and landing in the 109 can be tricky, check out these videos before you attempt on your own: Test Flight - DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst #3 - Taxi and Takeoff Checks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffVctD3enZM
