Awesomenauts - the 2D moba - Rylynn

Awesomenauts 4.0 has been out on Steam for over a week and we are happy to read about all the feedback you gave us. We’re using this feedback to make 4.0 even better, so please share your thoughts here on Steam or on the official forums!

We’ll give you a full rundown of all the news covered on the Streamisho this week below. If you prefer to watch the Streamisho on Youtube, you can do so here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6s73jBDe_bQ
Offline mode
We’ve received quite a lot of feedback about the offline features of Awesomenauts over the last week. Some people think we've removed botmatches and splitscreen with the latest update, but that's not the case: you can still play with and against bots in Update 4.0, and you can still play local splitscreen multiplayer. The only change here is that you need to have an internet connection to start the game, since your unlocks are now stored in the cloud.

Based on feedback of players who want to play Awesomenauts when they don’t have any internet available at all, we've decided to permanently leave an offline-only version of Update 3.5 available on Steam. And the nice thing is: it's available already!

Awesomenauts - the 2D moba - Mitaki

Hey everyone! We'd like to make a quick announcement regarding some of the discussions on offline play that we've seen in the community!

There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding regarding the ability to play offline in Awesomenauts.

In addition, some players have told us they want to be able to play when they don't have access to the internet at all. To make sure those players won't lose any features that they previously had access to, we've decided to permanently leave an offline-only version of Update 3.5 available on Steam. And the nice thing is: it's available already!

You can get the offline version like this:
  • Right click Awesomenauts in your Steam library and go to Properties.
  • Go to the DLC tab.
  • Enable the DLC called "Awesomenauts - Beta dual-load PC" (or Mac or Linux depending on your platform).
  • When you now start the game you can play offline by selecting "Play Awesomenauts Beta".
We'll replace this with a permanent solution in a few weeks, since future betas will overwrite your ability to access this particular version of the game. Once the way to access the offline version of Awesomenauts changes and we have the permanent solution ready for you, we'll let you know!

For now, enjoy!

Hey there, as we hope you’ve heard: Awesomenauts will be going free to play on May 24th. Lots of new players will be playing Awesomenauts for the first time after the transition, and we look forward to welcoming them to our community and hearing from them.

In order to help them learn more about Awesomenauts, we'd like to invite all existing players, our grizzled veterans, to participate in our brand new Guide Contest!

Write great guides, help new players, win awesome prizes! It’s that easy! Your contribution will not only make it a little easier for new players to join the community, but it’ll also earn you more skilled teammates to fight alongside on the battlefield!

We’ve opened the window for guide submissions on Steam as of today! Everyone who owns a copy of Awesomenauts and abides by the rules is allowed to participate in the contest, which will run until Wednesday, May 31st, 17:00 EU / 16:00 UK / 11 AM Eastern / 8 AM PT.

Be sure to support guides you like by giving them an upvote, as the Grand Winner of this contest will be decided based on the number of upvotes a guide gets. You can check out all submissions here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/204300/guides/

We encourage everyone to submit a cool Awesomenauts game guide to help new players learn more about Awesomenauts. The topic of your guide is up to you, and everyone is welcome to join the contest as long as they follow the rules below!

Rules:
  • There are no restrictions on creating guide for specific game modes, Awesomenauts, maps, or any other features
  • All the guides must be uploaded under the Awesomenauts guide section on Steam, and have [CONTEST] in their name. This tag may be removed after the contest ends
  • While there's no restriction on language for this contest, creating a guide in English (or translating to multiple languages) might help gain yourself more upvotes, as it potentially reaches a bigger audience.
  • The guide content must be created by yourself
  • Only 1 creator is allowed per guide
  • Several guides of one creator are allowed
  • All the guides must include relevant thumbnails, adding additional images to support the guide is encouraged
  • Only guides that are created after April 26th are eligible for the contest
  • Content in the guide has to be relevant for the current version of Awesomenauts
  • The guide with the most upvotes in the end wins the contest
  • There are other prizes for honorable mentions
  • Ronimo holds the right to disqualify a guide from the competition, if they conflict with any rule of the contest or the EULA

Winners will be announced on our Streamisho on May 31st, right after the window for submissions closes.

Prizes
Now, it’s time to announce the contest rewards! Go check the information below to see what you can win!

The Grand Winner
The creator of the guide with the highest number of upvotes wins a limited edition Clunk statue, all three Awesomenauts costume party DLC bundles, as well as an exclusive Roboscoop skin. On top of that, you receive the in-game Golden Gearlyfish medal.

Honorable mention
An honorable mention will be rewarded if we think a guide deserves a mention due to creativity, originality, overall value to the community, etc. All the honorable mention winners will get the exclusive Roboscoop skin and a Silver Gearlyfish badge!

Good luck with the competition, and may the best guide win!

We just released the first hotfix to Awesomenauts 4.0, including fixes for several gameplay issues and plenty of other improvements.

For more info on all the new features included in the 4.0 launch that released earlier this week, please check out the announcement we made on that.

Update 4.0.1

General
  • Fixed that turret health had been decreased by 20%. Turrets now have their correct health values back.
  • Fixed that you couldn’t chat during the victory/defeat screen.
  • Fixed that sometimes the Creeper Clunk Skin was incorrectly locked.
  • Reworked Slowwolf Announcer to hopefully fix that he sometimes didn’t unlock. If you had this problem then please let us know if it is fixed now.
  • Fixed that queue times for co-op vs bots were way too long. It’s now the intended 2 minutes. Note that co-op vs bots might have few players until we actually go free to play on May 24th.
  • Fixed that co-op vs bots matches used only one map (Ribbit IV).
  • Visually improved the droppod backgrounds for players with a Low background quality setting.
  • Fixed team colour and the neutral colour for the custom game bomb when using the ‘explode on death’ setting.
  • Improved visual clarity of the profile level 50 medal.
  • In the player status dock, the health of the blue team is now blue when colourblind mode is on.
  • When the game has trouble receiving end of game progress information, the game now waits for a maximum of 2 minutes after the game to retrieve that info and show you your rewards.

Progression
  • The XP needed to level your account from level 0 to 1 has been decreased from 480 to 315
  • The XP needed to level your account from level 1 to 2 has been increased from 495 to 550
  • The XP needed to level a character from level 0 to 1 has been decreased from 400 to 315

Menus
  • Fixed that featured matches didn’t show in the Watch menu.
  • Fixed some cases where global chat sometimes randomly disappeared (seems like it still happens sometimes, let us know if this happens to you and in what situation).
  • Recruitment code now correctly displays on Linux.
  • Fixed an issue where pressing back on controller in character select while matchmaking would cause the leave game popup to not be controllable for 5s.
  • Safe to leave message moved up so it isn’t blocked anymore by the exit menu button in the ingame menu.
  • When a naut is already unlocked it will not show the discount label anymore.
  • When you have selected a character that has less than a minute of total play time, the profile stats screen now shows “0” instead of displaying incorrect values for the “per minute” stat in each stat category.
  • Fixed that in some occasions the progression bar in the armory kept counting up and resetting.
  • Fixed that the tutorial character GG7 kept talking during popups that should silence him.
  • Fixed a typo in the prestige medal descriptions.

Chucho Krokk
  • Teamcolour is now being displayed properly on Chucho's sticky bomb.
  • The tiny sticky bomb, from the Trick-Up-Your-Sleeve upgrade, should now play it's entire animation instead of resetting after starting.

Gnaw
  • Fixed that fertilizing Weedlings would play the heal sound rapidly.

Jimmy and the LUX5000
  • Fixed that the Nano Repair Bots lifesteal would proc multiple times for multiple hit targets.

Sentry
  • Activating Black Hole Sun will now always use the skin’s appropriate voice.

Awesomenauts - the 2D moba - Mitaki

It's really happening! Awesomenauts is going free to play on May 24th! Soon everyone can be an awesome space mercenary!
https://youtu.be/g4EV6KmsW58
Going free-to-play has always made sense for Awesomenauts, as more players simply means it’s a better game for everyone. It greatly improves the matchmaking and networking experience, and brings more people to community events and the amazing community-made mods.

We couldn't have done this without your support! Your continued feedback inspires us to dream big, and many of the changes we’re introducing with 4.0 are a direct result of that. Thanks to your support, Awesomenauts has grown from a scrappy indie title to one of the few enduring online games. And with your help we're going to launch Awesomenauts into the stratosphere!

Before we get down to talk about all the cool new stuff, we need to mention two very important things that will stay the same amidst all of these big changes:
  • Awesomenauts is still the platforming MOBA you know and love. Nothing changes to the gameplay.
  • We won’t sell power. You can’t pay to win. Players won’t be able to spend real money to get an advantage during matches.
So, with that out of the way: let's get down to all the cool new stuff in this update!

Existing Player rewards!
We couldn’t possibly have made this massive update without the support of all our awesome existing players! That’s why everyone who played Awesomenauts before April 26th will automatically be rewarded ‘Founder’ status, granting an exclusive portrait and medal! Of course, you'll also have a huge head start over all newcomers, as you will already have lots of characters unlocked!

Even better, if you own the base game plus both expansions before May 24th, you'll automatically be upgraded to the 'All Nauts Pack'! This grants you every 'Naut, forever.

And as always, your feedback remains essential! So don't hesitate to tell us what you think of all these changes.

Portraits, Medals and Droppods
Custom Portraits, Droppods and Medals have been added to make sure there is plenty of cool stuff to unlock! To help show off these sweet new unlockables we've also taken the opportunity to completely overhaul the match intro and scoreboard. Not only does the new intro show off your Droppod, Medals and Portrait, it also gets everyone pumped to get started!
Portraits can be gained through normal progress, while Medals are rewarded for achieving special feats. Droppods on the other hand, are bought with the new currency: Awesomepoints!

Level up your Profile and Nauts!
When playing matchmade games, both your Profile and played Naut will gain experience! And both of them can go up in level separately, granting you unique rewards. Items are now the first thing a 'Naut unlocks, which makes completing your build much faster. Levels will also get you Portraits, Awesomepoints and other goodies!

The Profile screen has also be revamped to hold all everything progress related. Here you'll find your stats, 'Naut progress, Medals and Portraits.

Awesomepoints are here!
On top of experience, playing will also get you Awesomepoints! These can be spent on unlocking any 'Nauts you don't own yet, or the new Droppods and Portraits. Every Awesomenaut can be unlocked this way, even if they were previously part of an expansion. There's also a new testing environment for 'Nauts you don't currently own yet, so you can try before you buy!

Real money is still the only way to buy the 'Naut skins, but can now also be used to buy individual 'Nauts and Droppods.

Introducing the 'All Nauts Pack'
If you just want to have all 'Nauts available to you at all times, this Pack is for you. It not only gets you all current 'Nauts, but also all the new ones as they come out! The Pack will also grant 'Collector' status, giving you an exclusive Medal and Lonestar skin.

And as mentioned before, if you own the game plus both expansions before May 24th you will automatically be upgraded to the 'All Nauts Pack'! To help all our existing players upgrade to this Pack, we'll be discounting the expansions until the free-to-play launch.

New game mode: Co-op vs. Bots!
Not feeling very competitive today? Team up with your fellow man and take down a team entirely comprised of Bots! When firing up this new mode you can pick you own difficulty, and Galactron will go look for allies with similar wishes and a low ping. Beating up the Bots will net you rewards just like the regular vs. Player mode, so no worries about missing out.

New menu: Armory!
Want to pick up some new Awesomenauts or Droppods? You need to be in the Armory! Here you can easily browse all the content you’ve unlocked so far. Every item can be digged into for more details, including backstories and splash art. In case of the characters there’s lots of info on their gameplay too, including their Shop items and skills. You can even take characters for a quick testdrive!

Recruit all the friends!
Reaching level 5 will grant you a special recruitment code, which you can give to any other players!

New players will be able to enter your key and unlock Raelynn, for free! Any player can only be recruited once!

Whenever a player that you have recruited reaches level 8, you will gain 1000 Awesomepoints! You may recruit up to 50 players this way.

Completely new tutorial!
To help all those new players get their bearings in Awesomenauts, we've completely overhauled the tutorial. It features a lot less player downtime and also explains every aspect of the game a lot more thoroughly. The first mission still features Sheriff Lonestar, but in the second players can give Scoop a whirl to learn all about pushing and staying alive.

All in all, there's a lot of awesome stuff in the new update, and there's even more to look forward to in the coming months.

Exciting times are coming, and we'd once again like to thank you for all the support you've given us over the years. We're excited about the future, and hope you'll join us on this next step in our adventure!

Thank you!

Thank you!
