22 Of The Best (Short) Portal Movies

Open Source Filmmaker, a community bringing together some of Steam's best movie creators, recently held a themed event called "Turret Week". Members had to create short, original films about Portal's turrets.


While most Source Filmmaker clips are still rough, unoriginal affairs using Team Fortress 2 models, these are wonderful, capitalising on the short timeframe and source material to produce some great results.


You can watch all 22 in the playlist below, which you really should, as many contain running gags.

Source Filmmaker version 0.9.5.14 has been released. This update will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

  • Improved stereoscopic export
  • Various crash fixes
  • Improved default animationset control groupings

This Fantastic Animation Is A Violent Showdown Between Team Fortress 2's Scout and Left 4 Dead's Witch

You might have to wait for part 2 to see what this animator's vision on who would win this fight is, but I'm leaning towards the witch. Everyone knows once the witch has you down, there's no getting back up. You can't even fight from under her!

  • New session: Meet the Soldier
  • Poster can be exported to PNG or JPEG additional to TGA
  • Movie export to Image Sequence now with JPEG possible
  • Improved rig scripts to fix knee and shoulder position issues
  • Fixed watch on Sniper
  • Issue with exporting movies with frame rate 23.976 fixed
  • Single sound file can manually update its waveform
  • Improvements in the Console: autocomplete and clear

Valve's new Source Filmmaker is being used to create an unbelievable amount of original content, sure, but there's also scope for people to pay homage. Like LiveCurious95 has here, with this ode to the Matrix's "rescue" scene, swapping out Agents with Medics and Keanus for Nicks.
