Now that we have most of the major launch bugs and feature requests worked out, we wanted to post an update on Development progress as we continue on to work on the content for the upcoming Frozen Tundra update. We'll be posting more of these sorts of updates as we go along.

First, we wanted to thank everyone who has contributed bug reports, feedback, and content. We're also glad to see many of you enjoying theorycrafting and pushing the difficulty in endless run attempts. We make games for you, the players, so it's great to see participation in the community!

The main feature of this post is to showcase a couple of the upcoming heroes you'll be able to find amongst the ice and snow. Let's start with Claire's new Frozen form! When Frozen Tundra releases, this form will unlock for anyone who has completed the Wasteland story mission.



Frozen Form Claire
This Claire uses science and technology to master her environment, the ice and snow of the Tundra. She can encase herself in ice for protection, and can apply piercing ice type damage to her and her allies' attacks. She can also summon an automated drone to pelt enemies with ice attacks.

As always, she will be able to borrow skills from many of the upcoming heroes, and a few of the existing ones.



Sovras, the Necromancer
Sovras is centered around dealing Dark type damage while using endless hordes of undead as literal meat shields. Not content to sit in the back lines, Sovras actually works best as a tank. He automatically summons Zombies who block damage for him and dish out some damage of their own. In addition, he has various way to reduce and redirect incoming damage, steal health, and even avoid death itself.

Offensively, Sovras' featured skill, Grave's Call, guides enemies to their demise, which deals increasing Dark type damage as his target loses HP, and can keep them from Bleeding Out.

Sovras' relics provide Physical and Dark damage mitigation effects, and access to his Grave's Call skill.

What's Next?
We'll be posting more of these updates, with character reveals and other things, as we continue working on things and get closer to our next content release. We hope you're having fun with the current content, but we certainly want to get more of it into your hands!

Balance Changes/QoL Content
  • Seth's Thrash skill reworked to do more direct damage
  • Seth's Venom Bite damage increased a bit
  • Big Dan's Hell Ride skill level 2 now gains 50% damage per use
  • Big Dan's Boozer trait level 2 now taunts a random enemy instead of removing a debuff
  • Added a graphics quality option for lower end computers that will disable some of the more intensive full-screen shader effects, when set to "Low." This should help if you're struggling with performance.

Bug fixes
  • Claire's Quantum Mechanics bonus should now accurately reset after battle
  • Big Dan's Hell Ride level 3 now charges correctly
  • Fixed occasional animation error with Taunt skill
  • Fixed bug with tutorial where party could get cleared out
  • Fixed being able to abandon tutorial early and end up in "limbo" without certain appropriate unlocks. Any games like this should get these unlocks awarded the next time they visit town.
  • Fixed bug with relic menu where you couldn't equip a relic with the mouse
  • Fixed mouse clickability of empty character slots in battle menu

Balance Changes/QoL Content
  • Top level Battle Menu now remembers last cursor position per character
  • Mouse control now responds only when actually pointing at the thing you're clicking on in a menu
  • Maximus' Forgeborn attribute bonus caps at 200%
  • Armor Form Claire's Powerfist level 3 now damages the back row instead of knocking the front row target back
  • Seth's primary fight skill is now Venom Bite, and he has Ambush skill in exchange
  • Seth's Predator trait reworked to offer attribute bonuses when at full HP
  • Alcohol skills (Rum, Whiskey) now have a flat 35% chance to lose control, instead of an increased chance per stack
  • Reduced Buzzard's Saw relic's free turn chance to 20%
  • Jack and Wensho's Acrobatics trait level 3 now gives 50% turn progress instead of a free turn
  • Zane's Inferno Gem relic now converts some taken damage into fire damage, and no longer grants Fire Blast
  • Zane's Passion relic now grants Fire Blast skill
  • Zane's Overheat now has 10 max stacks, and level 3 increases speed per stack
  • Iana's Master Scout Flag relic no longer reduces initial turn delay, but increases damage taken by 25%
  • Avatar enemy's speed reduced a bit

Bug fixes
  • Fixed Samuel's Lawman skill being able to counterattack at level 1
  • Fixed Claire's Quantum Mechanics not adding speed properly
  • Fixed battle effect icons remaining for some party-wide effects after they had ended
  • Fixed potential infinite counter loop from Venom Spray
  • Fixed mouse control in Distortion event encounter
  • Fixed mouse input related bug on party select menu where you could click on other things while dragging a character around

  • Amenemhet's Sandstorm reworked to be a toggleable effect with more useful debuffs and more damage
  • Jack and Wensho's Acrobatics trait can no longer stack multiple free turns at once from multi-hit attacks
  • Lowered the effect that speed has on turn progress a bit
  • Skills that are raised past level 3 (through relics, distortions, other skills, etc) now gain an extra bonus to any damage or healing they do
  • Reduced effect of Restless distortion

Bug fixes
  • Fixed bug where Mead item was not usable
  • Fixed Amenemhet's Guide Souls skill level 3 to to properly restore MP
  • Claire's Quantum Mechanics level 3 speed bonus fixed to transfer to other forms
  • Ambroise's Healing Vapors effect should now properly end
  • Fixed bug where max MP value sometimes did not update properly
  • Death Worm's Consume skill should now properly handle on death triggers
  • Fixed Lydia's Cleanse skill level 3 to heal the proper amount of HP

Balance Changes and new Content
  • You can now choose Claire's starting form when assembling your party from the portal
  • Battles now favor the player if both teams die at the same time
  • Seth's Toxin relic, Dan's Bottle relic, and Iana's Snake Bite Coating damage output reduced and capped at 5%
  • Claire's Quantum Mechanics level 2 changed to give decreased turn delay instead of free turn
  • Reduced effects of Overburdened and Tireless distortions
  • Ambroise's Healing Vapors skill level 3 now ticks on Ambroise's turn instead of the target's, and level 1 bonus has been increased
  • Camps now award 10% stamina restoration per camp supply used instead of 20%

  • Fixed bug where Ale item fully restored stamina instead of giving the appropriate 15%

Bug fixes
  • Fixed crash in character relic screen when selecting duplicate option on an empty relic slot
  • Fixed crash in character relic screen when trying to change a Relic on Seth with level 2+ Resistant skill
  • Fixed bug where some skills (mostly counters) were not triggering "when using X" effects on other skills or relics
  • Fixed Claire's physicist form still being listed as "Normal" in all heroes screen
  • Fixed bug where Javed would not be replaced when there was only 1 other hero still alive
  • Fixed crash related to Rafael's forcefield running out vs a multi-target attack
  • A few fixes for some rare crashes

Balance Changes
  • Jack's Adaptable Level 3 chance for free turn reduced to 25%.
  • Wensho's Zen Trance has had level 1 and 2 effects swapped. This should help his damage feel a bit more potent when he has not been upgraded.
  • Harry and Claire's Medkit skill changed to use a fixed healing range, similar to other Gadget skills
  • Scavenger Claire's Timed Charge skill changed to use a fixed damage range, similar to other Gadget skills
  • Samuel's Observe and Lawman skills reworked a bit to more reliably be able to trigger Lawbreaker to deal outgoing and reduce incoming damage
  • Reduced set skill levels for husk Seth in the fight that features him, so it's not so hard to actually finish him off

This patch adds some more new-player friendly content, and improves the endless mode system, based on feedback from our players, as well as a few bug fixes. Thanks for contributing!

Changelog for version 0.1.8

New Content
  • New games or games that have yet to beat tier 1 now have an introductory mission, called a "Recon Mission" that is shorter and of a bit lower difficulty. This should help ease the introduction to the game and get your characters leveled up a bit before facing harder challenges. Once you complete the Recon Mission, you will progress to a "Hunting Mission" which is the same as the previous content.
  • Endless mode has been replaced by a new take on Endless mode in which you can choose the difficulty level to start at. As you beat each one, additional difficulty tiers open up. This allows you to skip early low level content if you would like, while still pushing for higher difficulty with greater rewards.
  • Big Blob boss now awards a new Boss Relic.
  • Venom Queen boss now awards a new Boss Relic.

Bug fixes
  • Ambroise's Plaguebearer should now plague random enemies instead of only the attacker when at level 2
  • Fixed a bug where party members sometimes could disappear or end up swapping position incorrectly
  • Fixed visual bug where characters revived by Rewind Break skill would sometimes remain rotated sideways
  • Fixed Harry's Emergency Care being able to activate even when downed
  • Fixed a possible soft lock from mouse input in the portal menu

  • Fixed a few rare crashes related to certain skills and distortions (Covering Fire, Master Scout Relic on Claire, Archaeologist distortion)
  • Fixed bug where The Twins' backhand skill could be counter attacked when it is used as a counter, resulting in an infinite slap fight loop
  • Fixed first (story version) final encounter not appearing as a boss fight on the map
  • "Baby Steps" tutorial achievement should now be awarded when visiting town for the first time
  • Fixed Capacitor distortion showing counter icon on enemies
  • Fixed bug where break skill costs would not be restored when saving and reloading a game mid-run
  • Fixed Hera's Diadem relic improperly applying bonuses to Focus instead of Wisdom

Balance Changes/New Content
  • Claire's "normal" form is now called "Physicist" instead
  • Zeke's No-Sell skill now expires after taking 15% of Max HP in damage, or after 2 turns. This should help the triple wrestlers elite fight not drag out so much when they get low
  • Boss Relics are no longer craftable. You'll need to hunt the bosses to find more!
  • Mission Failure screen now shows how many particles you'll recover when returning to town
  • Rafael's Energy Lance damage ratios increased
  • Rafael's Forcefield damage conversion improved
  • Rafael's Infinity Generator MP regeneration increased greatly
  • Husk bikers in the double biker fight will always have level 1 Fighting Spirit, so they won't have too much regen
  • Teleporter encounter now always teleports you somewhere on the same x-tier and grants extra particles when you take the teleporter
  • Battle speed indicator is now always visible so it can be more easily controlled by mouse users (just click on it to cycle through speeds)
  • Abandoning a mission now rewards you with 10% of collected particles per hop you've completed (up to 50%). This allows you to quit your mission and still get rewards if you're pretty sure you're about to lose anyway

This patch includes some fixes for a couple bugs that were quite elusive for a while, but we think stability and performance should be increased for many players. Thank you for your bug reports and feedback!

Bug fixes
  • Fixed and improved some calculations that were being processed every frame, but are now processed only when necessary. This should improve performance in battle for some players who reporting frame rate issues only in battle, especially those with slower CPUs.
  • Fixed an end-of-battle processing bug that could rarely cause a crash with no crash log
  • Fixed a crash related to Erratic trait
  • Fixed bug where endless map was sometimes not regenerated correctly on game save/load
  • Fixed a few text errors in tutoral
  • Fixed bug where Ale item was unable to be used on characters with stamina < 100
  • Fixed +/- keys also being bound to volume control, instead of only for adjusting battle speed

Balance Changes/New Content
  • Broodmother boss fight now awards Spider Egg relic. Have a pet spiderling!
  • Enemies that absorbed damage types (such as Red Blob, Green Blob, Spiderling) now nullify the damage instead of healing
  • Husk Wrestlers in the triple Wrestler elite fight have had their skill levels set to specific levels, in order to make the difficulty of the fight more consistent

  • Turn start effects are now processed on free turns. This fixes an issue where skills like Timed Charge wouldn't proc at the expected time
  • Fixed bug where some turn-end effects were not processed when spending a turn on Transform
  • Fire Eater distortion now properly targets a single ally only, instead of everyone

  • The Twins boss will now restore health to 75% and 50% of max when changing to phase 2 and 3 respectively (the breakpoints that trigger the form changes)
  • Replaced basic drone fight with a fight featuring Mechs and Heavy Drones
  • Fight with Knight, Priestess, and Ranger husks now has an additional Knight
