Our new content update is here! Experience Project Lupara and the introduction of our new Prime Asset, Franco “Il Bambino” Barbi, who is featured in the new Trial Map, The Docks. Season 1 has also commenced at the Sinyala Facility and along with it arrives a host of new features.

New Prime Asset: Franco ‘Il Bambino’ Barbi


  • Project Lupara introduces Franco ‘Il Bambino’ Barbi, a formidable new Prime Asset; the first of his kind, hunting players with his beloved Lupara, a sawed-off shotgun that allows him range beyond any Outlast Trials villain thus far.
  • Reagents will come face-to-face with Franco in the new story Trial, “Poison the Medicine”, which transports players to The Docks, a brand-new map, and Franco's home turf. Keep an eye out for his traps too…
  • The perverse son of New Orleans mafia don Salvatore Barbi, Franco is driven by craven entitlement, greed, and psychosexual violence fueled by his impotence and insecurities, a freakish ‘big baby’ obsessed with his ‘Pacifier’; the titular boom stick he sucks on when he’s not using it to blow someone to smithereens.
Special Event: Bambino


  • For those who won't get enough of Franco, fear not! The Bambino special event will run for the first 4 weeks following the update where Franco will appear in all other Trials and MK-Challenges.
    • Franco joins Gooseberry or Coyle in their respective Trials. Compound charismatic trauma accentuated and contradicted by the indiscriminate destruction of gun violence.
  • The event will be split into 2 parts (2 weeks each), with a selection of Trials for each part.
New Trials and MK-Challenges


  • Poison the Medicine - In a godless world, opiates will be the religion of the masses. Take control of drug production, and you can kill with the nonchalance of a god.
  • Fuel the Release - Justice, like civilization, requires power, and power requires fuel. Carry the fuel, power the court, and secure your liberty.
  • Teach the Police Officer - Defining laws creates crime; replace the precinct’s training film with Murkoff’s reels and make future crimes our own.
  • Mansion Escape - A new final trial and conclusion.
Mansion Escape

Revisit the final Trial and experience an entirely new challenge.
  • Mansion Escape will now evolve as you release Reagents, increasing in difficulty with every Reagent Release.
  • Witness a new release conclusion when you succeed in escaping and become Reborn.
  • Players can only accumulate 20 Release Tokens at a time
Escalation Therapy


ESCALATION THERAPY, a new game mode being introduced alongside this update.
  • Reagents partake in a roguelite experience pitting them against a never-ending series of randomized Trials with variators that will have them clawing their eyes out until they succumb to a Permadeath that will begin the cycle anew.
  • Reagents will begin with nothing and build their loadouts from Murkoff’s limited selection of upgrades.
  • The longer you can survive, the bigger the reward.
Upcoming Weekly Programs

Upcoming weekly programs in this season:
  • HEMORRHAGE - Damage causes bleeding, and unless you find and use bandages, you'll bleed out, and die. We won't always be there to take care of you.
  • CAPGRASS DELUSION - More devious imposters, no player names displayed, and radio communication is limited. Cooperation is crucial, trust no one.
  • THE HUMBLING - Start the Trial with lowered health and limited inventory.  We strip you down to your truest self, so you can identify and destroy who you really are.
  • CROSSED SIGNALS - Radio range is limited. In the ensuing silence, Reagents are increasingly vulnerable to hallucination. Learn to mistrust silence, let us be the voices in your head.

New Rig: Barricade



Reagents can gain access to a new Rig to use in the Trials: The Barricade.
  • This tool can be used to block paths, giving Reagents the time needed to complete their objectives while pursuers are forced to bash their way through or take the long way around.
  • Like the other Rigs, The Barricade comes with its own set of upgrades that can be unlocked to bolster Reagents even more in their moment of need. 
Programs


The Program menus have been revamped with a new visual and difficulty selection support.
  • There are now 3 programs at all time:
    • Core Therapy “Genesis”: Access to the Genesis Trials.
    • Weekly Therapy & Special Therapy: Set of Trials and MK-Challenges that change regularly.
    • Endurance Therapy “Escalation”: Access to the new game mode roguelite.
Difficulty


We are introducing a difficulty selection to Program Genesis, Weekly Therapies, and Special Therapies.
Players can now adjust the difficulty to their pain tolerance:
  • Introductory: The minimum prescribed dose of pain, to learn basic therapeutic techniques.
  • Standard: Regulated therapy at a statistically average level of terror and pain.
  • Intense: High-level therapy for patients seeking intense growth.
  • Psychosurgery: Maximum trauma.
Quickplay
The group finder has been replaced by Quick Play.
  • Using Quick Play will now look for players of the selected program and difficulty.
  • The Trial will be picked randomly or be the group leader selection.
  • The group leader can always change the selected Trial after the group if formed.
Dev comments: “With the changes we are implementing, we aim to significantly reduce matchmaking time and improve match quality. We will continue to monitor Matchmaking and make necessary changes if needed.”

Tasks


Accomplishing tasks gives Reagents a sense of pride, and earns them various rewards.
  • View available tasks directly in the Terminal.
  • Also accessible through the Pause Menu.
  • Complete tasks to earn rewards (Stamps, XP, Posters, Items, Bundles, etc.).
  • Task categories include:
    • Daily Tasks: Complete within 24 hours before they refresh.
    • Weekly Tasks: Complete within 7 days before they refresh.
    • Weekly/Special Program Tasks: Related to the current event; refreshes with new events.
    • Genesis Tasks: Assist Reagents in their journey to rebirth.
    • Reagent Tasks: Related to the Reagent's personal loadout.
    • Escalation Therapy Tasks: Tasks related to the new game mode.
Catalogs



Behavioral Attire shapes your persona on the path to rebirth. Complete tasks. Earn Stamps. Become a better you.
  • Standard Catalog “A New You”: A collection of previously available and new cosmetics.
  • Deluxe Catalog “Project Lupara”: A collection of brand new cosmetics to go along with Season 1.
  • Catalogs offer multiple pages of cell items and character cosmetics.
  • Unlock catalog content by spending Stamps, which are earned by playing Trials, MK-Challenges, Escalation Therapy, and completing Tasks.
  • The Standard Catalog is unlocked from the start.
  • Seasonal Deluxe Catalogs must be purchased with Murkoff Coins.
  • Murkoff Coins can be earned by completing the Standard Catalogs.
  • Seasonal Catalogs are permanent and will never disappear.
  • Acquired cosmetics from the Catalogs are kept forever in your inventory.
  • Stamps collection will reset at the beginning of each new Season. All unused Stamps will be automatically used to claim rewards from the Catalogs (if applicable).
Stroop Test


A new sleep room mini-game for reagents to enjoy while they “unwind” between trials. The Stroop Test is an experiment requiring Reagents to hastily choose between mismatched colored words. This mind-liquifying test quickly becomes a classic Outlast mindbender.

The Director Radio
The following menus have moved from the Terminal to The Director Radio in your cell. Consult the radio to access the following:
  • Records - Your personal stats.
  • Badges - Your collection of accomplishments.
  • Documents - The storylines you have discovered.
Changes in the Currencies
With this update, we have made significant changes to the currencies.
  • Murkoff Dollars have been retired.
  • All previously acquired but still unpurchased items have been granted to all Reagents.
  • Stamps have been introduced and can be earned by completing Trials and Tasks. These are used to acquire individual items from the Catalogs.
  • Murkoff Coins have also been introduced and can be used to unlock seasonal Deluxe Catalogs.
New DLC: The Exotica Pack


Host a scorching summer BBQ from inside your cell with The Exotica Pack. This content pack includes an exclusive set of legendary outfits, cell items, cell posters, E.S.O.P.s and player icons that will show fellow Reagents that you’re the life of the party. Murkoff advises against performing Trials under the influence of unapproved substances.

Additions/Fixes/Balancing
  • Added “News” system in the game. Players can now consult important Outlast Trials news directly in-game. The news can be opened from the main menu or directly from the Sleep Room. A notification will appear on-screen when players have unread news items.
  • Players can now access and modify their Loadout in the shuttle prior to entering a Trial.
  • Players can now retry a Trial after a failure.
  • A new animated introduction is displayed when opening a Program for the first time.
  • A new notification is displayed when a Trial is selected, so everyone is made aware of the Trial.
  • Increased max Therapy Level to 70 (was 65).
  • Adjusted the safe hide spot entering distance for the Invisible Amp.
  • Added a new Terminal notification shortcut so players can quickly access it from anywhere in the Sleep Room.
  • Dorris, the Shadowy Dame, now has stuff to say. Visit Dorris to listen to hear storyline as you make progress in the Murkoff Facility.
  • Fixed many other issues and bugs.
Known Issues
  • There are instances where different or no customization Items are granted with Tasks Rewards when leveling up through XP

Greetings Fellow Reagents,

A new update is coming to The Outlast Trials and for the first time in Outlast history, players will face a gun-wielding villain. Our new Prime Asset, Franco “Il Bambino” Barbi comes armed with a sawed-off shotgun that will strike Reagents from a distance, making the chase all the more challenging. Franco will be featured in the new map “The Docks” where the new Trial: Poison the Medicine, takes place. The update will be available on Tuesday, July 16th at approximately 10am ET.



This latest update will not only introduce a new villain and a new map, but will also feature a new roguelike game mode: Escalation, a new player ability: The Barricade Rig, a new Trial in and MK-Challenges, difficulty options for players, overhauls to matchmaking, menu UI, daily and weekly tasks, and a new in-game economy.

New Prime Asset: Franco “Il Bambino” Barbi
The perverse son of New Orleans mafia Don, Salvatore Barbi. Using his ‘Lupara’, Franco hunts Reagents, unloading on anyone he catches in his sights. This giant, wailing manbaby is driven by craven entitlement, greed, and psychosexual violence, fueled by his impotence and insecurities. Barbi is a splendid addition to Easterman’s gallery, just try to stay out of his crosshairs long enough for us to gather the necessary data.

New Map: “The Docks”


Enter “The Docks” Franco’s drug manufacturing domain from which he infantilizes the world, dragging weak and powerful alike to his level. New objectives will be featured in this environment where you must escape Franco’s tantrums to survive.

New Trials & MK-Challenges
  • Poison the Medicine: Reagents will come face-to-face with Franco in the new story Trial, “Poison the Medicine”, which will transport players to “The Docks,” a brand-new map and Barbi’s home turf.
  • Mansion Escape: Return to the final Trial, Farewell Mansion, for a new experience; Mansion Escapes now evolves in difficulty as you release Reagents. Witness an all-new Ending when you succeed.
  • Fuel the Release: Justice requires power, and power requires fuel. Carry the fuel, power the court, and secure your liberty.
  • Teach the Police Officer: Defining laws creates crime; replace the precinct’s training film with Murkoff’s reels and make future crimes your own.
New Game Mode: Escalation Therapy

New Lobby Mini-Game: Stroop Effect Test


The stroop effect is the delayed reaction time people have when viewing conflicting stimuli; the Stroop Effect Test asks participants to correctly select the colour of a word, where the word spells the name of a different colour. For example, the word YELLOW written in black text, or the word BLUE written in yellow text.

Introduction of Daily & Weekly Tasks:
Accomplishing tasks gives Reagents a sense of pride, and will earn them various rewards.

Introduction of Catalogs

The Bambino Special Event will run for the first four weeks following the update’s start.
Franco will appear in certain Trials and MK-Challenges, alongside Mother Gooseberry or Sergeant Coyle, and in Trials and MK-Challenges set in The Docks map.
The event will have two parts (each split into two weeks) where Franco will appear in different Trials.

New Limited-Time Event: PRIME TIME

Prime Time Therapy prepares Reagents for a future dominated by contradictory cults of personality and clashing fundamentalist ideals. Participants can expect their psyche to face brutal and fundamental assault from both ends.

Prime Time runs from May 28th to June 18th 10am EDT (GMT -4)

New Variators:
  • PRIME TIME: Multiple Prime Assets present in the same Trial.
  • BREAK THE TVs: Break all Prime Time televisions for additional Tokens.

Uncover the secrets of Prime Time by locating new evidence documents scattered throughout the Trials.

Complete Trials in this Limited-Time Program to earn Prime Tokens to acquire exclusive event cosmetics. The amount of Prime Tokens awarded will depend on the difficulty of the Trial you complete.
  • As you complete Prime Time Trials you will unlock exclusive event cosmetics which you will then be able to purchase in your Reagent Cell.
    • Spend your Prime Time Tokens on the exclusive cosmetics you unlocked, which will be visible in your Cell (click on your bed) and Reagent (click on the mirror) customization menus.

New Prime Assets upgrades

Gooseberry’s drill now causes bleeding.
  • Damage from Gooseberry now causes bleeding.
  • Bleeding: Causes damage over time. Can be interrupted by using Bandages.


Coyle’s electric baton now disables rigs.
  • Damage from Coyle now temporarily disables Rigs for 20 seconds.
New item: Bandages
  • Bandages can now be found scattered throughout the Trials.
  • Usage: Bandages stop bleeding and heal you by 50 HP.
    • Caution: Using bandages takes time, this may leave you exposed.
  • Adjustment: Large Medicine spawn rates have been reduced, they are now only found in Locked Containers.


Fixes/Additions/Balancing
  • Reworked pause menu to display the group and options in one screen instead of on tabs.
  • Badge Menu is now a scrolling list instead of pages.
  • The terminal will now show a notification icon when something new is available.
  • Updated medical items:
    • Bandages: Heal 50hp, and resolve bleeding effect. High spawn rates.
    • Small Medicines: Same as current (heals 25hp). Medium spawn rates.
    • Large Medicines: Same as current (heals 100hp). Can now only be found in locked Medical Containers.
  • Amp “Hide and Restore” can be used to counter Coyle’s Rig Disabler.
  • Amp “Hide and Heal” can be used to counter Gooseberry’s Bleeding.
  • Amp “Invisible” has been adjusted so that enemies can still perceive the player when they are very close.
  • Fixed an issue where some enemies would appear invisible.
  • Fixed an issue where door traps and some other items would become invisible while using the X-Ray.
  • Fixed the rarity of the Toxic Shock poster.
  • Various fixes and improvements.

Toxic Shock has begun at the Sinyala Facility, and we are looking forward to our experimentation and research findings in this endeavor!

This update includes:
  • New Limited-Time Event: TOXIC SHOCK.
  • New Mk-Challenges coming May 7th
  • Revised unlocking process for Program X and Program Ultra.
  • Various improvements/fixes/quality of life updates.
Limited-Time Event: TOXIC SHOCK

Toxic Shock brings a new experiment in the symbiotic action of chemically-induced pain and permanent damage to the Sinyala Facility. Recover all the drugged rats within the Trials for tissue analysis. Fulfill the secondary objective for additional rewards.

New variators:
  • Toxic Shock: The Trial environment sporadically fills with toxic gas, inflicting permanent damage. Hide to stay alive.
  • Collect The Rats: Recover all the drugged rats within the Trial for tissue analysis. Fulfill the objective for additional rewards.

  • Complete Trials in this time-limited program to earn Toxic Tokens and exclusive Toxic Cosmetics.
  • Uncover the secrets of Toxic Shock by locating new evidence documents scattered throughout the Trials.

Toxic Shock will run until May 7th at 10 AM ET (GMT -4)

  • Sabotage the Factory - Murkoff controls the means of production; use the emergency breaks to shut down the factory.

Programs Structure Tweaks
Changes to Program structures:
  • Complete all Trials of Program Genesis to unlock Program X.
  • Complete all Trials of Program X to unlock Program Ultra.
  • Last Trial of Program Genesis now gives the Core Therapy Poster (previously was 1st reborn).
Dev Comment: "We've observed that some players struggled to complete the Release Protocol, preventing them from unlocking and experimenting with Program X and Ultra. With this update, players can now continue making progress and access the final Trial when they feel ready."

Fixes/Additions/Balancing
  • Increased rewards for perfect scores (A+) in harder Trials.
  • Reduced score penalty for triggering sound traps.
  • Reworked the main menu.
  • Cross-play message now displayed only once (instead of every time the player enters the Sleep Room).
  • New TV in the shuttle displays the remaining time before the Shuttle leaves (exit trial sequence).
  • New pointing animation was added when pinging.
  • Courthouse: Decreased the number of evidence to gather for this objective.
  • Courthouse: Reworked the positioning of puzzle box clues.
  • Toy Factory: Reduced the delay of trapped boxes to 1 second.
  • Lobby: New notifications on Mirror and Bed when new items are acquired.
  • Lobby: New notification on Personal Cell when there’s a new notification inside the cell (mirror, bed, radio).
  • Antotoxin (Amp): Sanity restoration delay reduced to 60 seconds (was 120 seconds).
  • Controller only: Players no longer need to hold the input for specific hold actions, allowing joystick use to look around while holding an interaction (e.g., pushing the Snitch). This can be turned off in the settings.
  • Placing a ping now triggers a pointing emote.
  • Fixed an issue where players could prevent an NPC from bashing through a door via an exploit.
  • Fixed an issue where some players were unable to pass under an open Garage door in solo.
  • Fixed an issue where using the X-Ray would sometimes remove the shimmer on items/objectives.
  • Fixed an issue where players would get stuck forever if going down (bleeding out) in the stairways of Orphanage.
  • Fixed an issue where the hit reaction after being damaged would be delayed.
  • Fixed an issue where players could disarm a battery-powered device with the stun rig before the objective was started.
  • Fixed an issue where if the application was abruptly closed while the player is affected by the Psychosis effect from a trapped door, the player is unable to return to that trial (reconnection).
  • Fixed an issue where an enemy could appear to be invisible.
  • Fixed an issue when disconnecting from inside a hiding spot.
  • Fixed issues when a player would disconnect from a Trial while holding a large object.
  • Fixed an issue where players could maneuver and be able to pass a large objective item through detector doors.
  • Fixed an issue where players could jump backward to bypass door detectors.
  • Fixed some issues with the spectator mode (when a player dies and spectates another player).

This week we launched out of Early Access and into The Outlast Trials' version 1.0! It was a huge milestone for our team over at Red Barrels and we took the time to go over some of the changes that were brought in since 1.0 and answer player questions in our latest Dev Q&A Broadcast on our YouTube channel! We look forward to doing more Dev Streams such as this one, and we may use them to tease some of the new features we are currently working on.



Thank you to all of our Early Access players, you all learned so much during the process and we were able to shape the Trials into what they are today with your invaluable feedback! With over 407k, Reborn and 29 million deaths, 13 million documents were collected, more than 200k teammates saved from bleed-out and the fact that you all spent more time in night vision than hiding, we want to thank you for being a part of this journey!

The Outlast Trials Roadmap

As mentioned in the Dev Broadcast, we wanted to share a Roadmap with some features that our team plans to add to The Outlast Trials. As we continue to monitor the feature balances we've made, the feedback of players, and the stability of the game in general, our team will also be working on bug fixes and improvements that will come along with these upcoming updates.

  • Toxic Shock will be our first Limited-Time event for all 1.0 players to experience followed by another Classified Event, stay tuned for more info and teasers.
  • Season 1 will be a major update that will feature a New Trial, a New Prime Asset, a New Rig, and more!
  • The Items in the "Future" category consists of features that we will be adding later in the year.
We look forward to the future of The Outlast Trials and to having all of you try some of the new experimental programs that will be added to the Trials.

This update represents a significant milestone, signaling the beginning of an exciting journey ahead. As we move forward, we are committed to building upon this foundation, shaping the future of The Outlast Trials.

With our V1 release update, we are ushering in a wave of changes, enhancements, and fresh content. These improvements are the result of careful consideration and collaboration, aimed at enhancing your experience and addressing key areas based on your feedback. We believe that this update not only marks a new chapter for all Reagents but also demonstrates our dedication to continuously evolve The Outlast Trials.

We are also very proud to announce that the game is now available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X! The game is fully cross-play, so you can play with Reagents across any platform!

Toy Factory
Introducing the brand new Trial Pervert the Futterman “We cannot allow secret messages and innuendo to brainwash our children; expose and humiliate the hidden deviant, then destroy him."
  • New Objective Gameplay: Compactor, conveyors, toy machines, alarm doors will all be part of your next Trial.
New MK-Challenges
Experience new MK-Challenges set in the Toy Factory environment.
  • Crush the Sex Toys: Discreet packaging hides dangerous perversion. Shine a light to expose the boxes of sex toys, then crush them with industrial force.
  • Incinerate the Sex Toys: Perversion on an industrial scale foments widespread corruption and disobedience. Push the production carts of sex dolls into the incinerator and burn the sickness.
Denizens Storylines
  • As you progress, the denizens of the Sleep Room will have stories to share with you.
  • Make sure to regularly visit Noakes, Barlow, and Easterman (Radio in your cell) to listen to their tales.
Solo Play and Difficulty
  • We've implemented adjustments in difficulty, Trial structure, and progression to provide a streamlined onboarding for all new and returning players - including those playing solo or as a group.
Revamped Program structure
  • There are now 3 permanent Programs: Program Genesis, Program X and Program Ultra.
  • Rotating Weekly Program (changes every Tuesday).
  • The Weekly Program will be interrupted when a Special Program occurs (Time Limited Event).
  • Players are now required to accumulate 20 Release Tokens to access the Release Protocol.
  • All Trials now award Release Tokens. (Trials award 2 Tokens, Mk-Challenges award 1 Token)
  • Players are free to engage in any Trial to earn Release Tokens, including Program Genesis, Program X, Program Ultra, Weekly Programs, and Special Events.
  • Program X is now unlocked after achieving 1 Reborn.
  • Program Ultra is unlocked after achieving 3 Reborns.
  • All Trials now provide full rewards (XP and Murkoff Dollars), even upon replays.
Dev Comment: In response to player feedback, we have revamped our Trials structure to better guide players towards the Reagent Release, ensuring more players experience the releases/conclusions earlier in the game. We've introduced changes to eliminate pain points in matchmaking and Trials selection, allowing players to freely engage in any Trial to earn tokens for a new Reborn. Program X is now an end-game feature with increased difficulty, providing a new challenge for seasoned players. And for the most dedicated players, we have added the new Program Ultra.

Program Genesis
  • All major Trials and many MK-Challenges have been combined into one Program called Genesis.
  • Genesis is a straightforward campaign considered the main path to rebirth.
  • Genesis Trials and MK-Challenges have no variators, and there are no repeats in this Program.
  • Complete Program Genesis to acquired enough Release Tokens and access the Release Protocol.
  • The intended difficulty of this program is Easy to Normal.
Program X
  • One Reborn is now required to access Program X, which entails acquiring 20 Release Tokens and completing the Release Protocol.
  • Program X has been refreshed with a new mix of Trials, MK-Challenges, and variators.
  • The rewards of Program X have been increased to be more generous.
  • The intended difficulty of this program is Normal to Hard.
Program Ultra
  • Program Ultra has been added to the game permanently.
  • Access to this challenging program is unlocked after the player has completed three Reborns.
  • Program Ultra offers the most difficult Trials ever created by Murkoff, but also the biggest rewards.
  • The intended difficulty of this program is Hard to Very Hard.
New Conclusion
  • Reagents who complete the therapy may be selected by Dr. Wernicke for his own personal project.
Weekly Program
  • Return every week for new therapeutic experiences.
  • With the release of V1, as we welcome a wave of new players, Murkoff will rerun some of the most popular Weekly Programs at first, while also introducing new ones in the months ahead.
  • The intended difficulty of the Weekly Programs varies from week to week.
Experimental Programs (Time Limited Events)
  • Murkoff will be hosting additional Experimental Therapy (Time Limited Events) in the upcoming weeks and months, filled with surprising experimental therapies and unique rewards. Stay tuned for more information!
  • We also want to assure everyone that past events will make a return in 2024 (Program Geister, Winter Kills and Omega).
  • The intended difficulty of the Experimental Programs varies from week to week.
Increased Therapy Level cap
  • The maximum Therapy Level has been increased to Level 65.
  • Nine new Amps have been added to the game.
  • Visit Dorris to discover the new Amps and make purchases once you meet the level requirement.
Revamped Loadout
  • The method of equipping Amps has undergone a complete overhaul.
  • Amps are now classified into three categories: Tool, Skill, and Medicine.
  • Each category includes nine different amps.
  • You can equip one amp from each of the nine available options per category.
Amps
  • New Amps:
    • BACKPACK: Expand your inventory by one slot.
    • INVISIBLE: Enemies can't find you in a hiding spot, even if you peak.
    • KEYMASTER: Lockpicking guarantees success on the first try, and each lockpick has two uses.
    • HIDE AND RESTORE: Enter a hidespot to restore Rig cooldown much faster.
    • ANTI DOOR TRAPS: Door traps shatter when doors are opened normally. If opened slowly, the trap disarms instead.
    • SMASH: Break doors or planks in a single strike.
    • GOOD JOB: Finishing an assignment will replenish a portion of your health. (Brief cooldown before it can be used again.)
    • BOOSTED: Start Trials with a random booster in your inventory (health, stamina or battery booster).
    • SELF REVIVE: Resurrect after death. (Once per Trial)
  • Revamped Amps:
    • NIGHT CRAWLER is now INCOGNITO. Your crouched walking speed is enhanced.
    • HIDE AND BREATH: Updated behavior. Enter a hiding spot to instantly recover from stamina exhaustion and receive an adrenaline boost. (Brief cooldown period before re-use.)
Rigs Balancing
X-Ray
  • Teammates now appear in X-Ray mode.
  • X-Ray can now be used while inside a hidespot.
  • Increased base X-Ray cooldown to 45s (was 30s).
  • Using X-Ray while in Night Vision will now deactivate Night Vision once the X-Ray effect ends.
Dev Comment: We are committed to improving the usability of X-Ray, aiming to make it a powerful intelligence tool. We made teammates appear in X-Ray in order to help coordination, and made the X-Ray usable while inside a hidespot to scout the surroundings while hiding. We will keep improving the X-Ray in the future.

Blind
  • Deploy duration reduced to 5s (was 6s). With upgrade 4s (was 5s).
  • Smoke duration increased to 15s (was 10s). With upgrade to 20s (was 12s).
Dev Comment: Following player feedback on our recent change, we have reevaluated the balancing of the Blind Rig. While we maintain the Blind Mine as a powerful tool that demands strategic planning, we have made it slightly faster to deploy and increased the duration of the smoke effect. We recognize its critical role in helping players achieve certain Trial objectives. We will continue to monitor player experiences and make further adjustments as needed. Thank you for your ongoing feedback.

Stun
  • Cooldown reduced to 120s (was 180s).
  • “RESTORE” upgrade effect changed: Cooldown time is reduced by 75% if no enemy is hit. (was 50%)
  • Fixed a bug where Prime Assets were immune to Stun rig.
Dev Comment: We believe the Stun is currently well-balanced, but we aim to enhance its utility as a quick-response tool for emergency situations. Additionally, we aim to eliminate the penalty for missing a target or using the Stun to disarm certain traps by reducing the cooldown time in those scenarios (upgrade required).

Heal
  • Heal Rig can now be used while inside a hidespot.
Dev Comment: We believe the Healing Rig is currently well-balanced. We have introduced the ability to self-heal while in a hide spot to align its functionality with other healing items.

The Brick
Based on player feedback from our previous change, we have revisited the brick item:
  • Updated behavior based on players feedback from previous change.
  • Brick now has 2 charges before it shatters.
  • The visuals of the brick (both in-world object and icon) will indicate its current state (new or used).
  • NEW: When the STRONG ARM amp is equipped, the brick will only have 1 charge (it will instantly shatter upon hitting an enemy).
  • The brick still has unlimited uses when thrown in the environment.

New Cosmetics
  • Acquire four new Reborn Legendary Outfits (Rewards for the Reborn).
  • Express yourself with a variety of new character cosmetics. Unlocked by completing Trials.
  • Enhance your personal cell with new decorations. Unlocked by completing Trials.
  • Purchase the optional Reagent Starter Pack (DLC) and kickstart your journey to rebirth with unique Legendary Outfits, Cell Items, Posters, and more. A discount available for all current Outlast Trials owners.
Console Release and Cross-Play
  • The Outlast Trials is now available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X.
  • Experience full controller support, vibrations, and explore different controller presets to fit your playstyle.
  • Cross-Play is fully supported, allowing you to easily play with friends across platforms. Simply share your Outlast ID (located in the Social Menu) with your friends to connect.
  • Please note that Cross-Progression is currently not supported.
Improvements, Balancing and Fixes
  • Stamina:
    • Stamina will now regenerate after a short delay instead of immediately.
    • Stamina consumption has been slightly decreased (can run longer before exhaustion).
    • Performing jumps while exhausted now cause a short stumble animation.
    • Performing jump overs while exhausted now cause a short stumble animation.
  • HUD:
    • Main Objective is now displayed permanently on screen by default (Standard and Accessible presets).
    • Added new separate option for Secondary Objective display. (Auto-hide by default, can be changed in the settings)
    • Reminder: Press “Tab” (or “Select” on controller) to display the main and secondary objectives.
  • Results Screen: Therapy Level of each player is now displayed.
  • Readded rewards for Perfect Score (A+).
  • Perfect Score (A+) now provides XP instead of Murkoff Dollars.
  • Performance Reward now also give Murkoff Dollars instead of just XP.
  • Remaining in the Trial after the Exit Trial countdown will now result in ongoing damage over time instead of instant death for the players.
  • Adjusted price of items of common items to 250 Murkoff Dollars (was 100).
  • Slightly decreased lockpick minigame difficulty.
  • Weekly Program / Sharp Glass: Broken glass damage increased.
  • Variator / No Player Names: Icons indicating players bleeding out and killed will now be visible in the game world even if this variator is active.
  • Interrupting the Pusher will now only inflict a partial amount of insanity gas.
  • Breaking windows will now create a minor sound disturbance, which may attract enemies.
  • Fixed the “Focus” input not working correctly in the Character Customization menu (Mirror).
  • Fixed an issue where players could avoid being knocked back by an NPC if performing a jump.
  • Other miscellaneous bug fixes, improvements, and optimizations have been implemented.

There is one week left to The Outlast Trials Early Access!

On March 5th at approximately 10AM EDT we will be releasing our 1.0 update globally. We wanted to remind everyone that as it is stated in our Steam page Early Access questions, the game’s price will increase after March 5th.



Join Early Access before March 5th and you will get all the content of 1.0 plus you will receive the Grizzly Hazmat Outfit in-game, as well as a 50% discount on our Reagent Starter Pack which will be made available at launch.



Murkoff wants to mold its Reagents well and 1.0 is just the beginning! Featuring a new map, Toy Factory, new MK-Challenges and Programs, and more, we look forward to seeing all our Reagents in the Sleep Room on March 5th alongside fellow console players!

As we prepare for our V1 launch which is just under 2 weeks away, we are taking some steps to ensure a fresh start, which includes cleaning up our UI a bit in regards to Limited-Time Event Currencies.

Here are two important updates to note:

Vaulting Winter Kills Cosmetics: We will be disabling the display of Winter Tokens in the currency tab and the purchase of the Limited-Time Holiday Cosmetics. For most players, this change will have no impact. However, if you still have Winter Tokens or have yet to acquire the Limited-Time Holiday Cosmetics with your Winter Tokens you have left, this is your final opportunity to do so!

Program Geister Cosmetics Rerun: Following the feedback we obtained about Program Geister being too short, we have decided to briefly reactivate Geister Tokens and the ability to purchase Geister Cosmetics in your customization menus. This is your chance to spend your hard-earned Geister Tokens on the items you unlocked before it is too late. Please note that Program Geister will not be available during this time, but the cosmetics you unlocked during the event and did not have time to purchase can now be acquired.

You will have from now until March 1st at approximately 10AM EDT to use your currency before they are lost and items are vaulted until these Limited-Time events are live once again.

We greatly appreciate the feedback and participation of our community in our Limited-Time Events during Early Access, it has helped give us the insight we needed to better shape these events for the future of The Outlast Trials post-Launch. We want to reassure all players, both old and new, that the Limited-Time Events of Geister and Winter Kills will return in 2024 for everyone to enjoy!
