Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) 40th Anniversary Edition - Ink
Last weekend, during Sunday's Xbox Games Showcase event, we were proud to reveal the first teaser trailer for the next generation sequel to Microsoft Flight Simulator coming next year: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024!
We have created a short FAQ that answers some of the most common questions we have seen so far. Our team is very excited to share more information about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 in the coming months.
Also during the Xbox Games Showcase, we revealed the Dune expansion, an upcoming free DLC for Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) that will launch alongside the November 3 theatrical release of Dune: Part Two from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. To learn more about this expansion, check out the Xbox Extended Showcase where Jorg Neumann and Parris Lilly met with Dune's Oscar-winning production designer Patrice Vermette to tour the actual ornithopter prop used in the film and discussed bringing this fantastic flying machine to Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Monday starts with two new content updates to the current version of Microsoft Flight Simulator scheduled: City Update 2: France and Local Legend 09: Latécoère 631. City Update 2 includes a bespoke version of Le Bourget Airport (LFPB), home of next week’s Paris Air Show. Both of these releases will be available on Monday, June 19.
Finally, the full release of Aircraft and Avionics Update 2 is almost ready to go. For this update, Working Title has made many significant improvements to the systems of the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental and Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner. We are targeting the AAU_02 release for Thursday, June 29. Thank you to everyone who participated in the AAU_02 public beta test. Your feedback and bug reports were very helpful to the development team!

Thank you to everyone who has been participating in the public beta test for Aircraft and Avionics Update 02 (AAU_02). Your feedback and bug reports have been incredibly helpful to the development team as we continue preparing for a target launch date of June 23. We released a new beta build (1.33.7.0) to testers yesterday. In case you missed it, you can see the release notes for this build on our forums here.
AAU_02 isn't the only upcoming release scheduled for June, though! As seen on the latest Development Roadmap, we will also be launching City Update 02: France (CU_02) on June 19. This update will add new photogrammetry to several French cities including Amiens, Angers, Nantes, Nimes, and Reims as well as a bespoke LFPB Paris Le Bourget airport, home of the upcoming Paris Air Show.
Also launching alongside CU_02 is Local Legend 9: Latécoère 631. This French flying boat once held the world record for the longest non-stop passenger service. There are no surviving models that remain today, not even in museums, so bringing a virtual rendition of this aircraft to Microsoft Flight Simulator is truly an act of historical preservation.
Finally, the Microsoft Flight Simulator Team will be attending FlightSimExpo 2023 starting on June 23. We'll be sharing more about our involvement with the Expo in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!

Public testing of Aircraft and Avionics Update 02 (AAU_02) remains ongoing. Earlier this week, we released a new beta build (1.33.6.0) to testers. This build includes several dozen bug fixes and feature improvements. The full release notes can be found on our forum here.
June is Pride Month, and Xbox Game Studios Publishing is excited to announce a new long-term partnership with GLAAD. The primary goal of this initiative is to help our partner studios create games that can offer much-needed visibility, understanding, and support for LGBTQIA+ people for years to come. Xbox Publishing will be collaborating with GLAAD and amplifying existing resources through workshops and consulting to bring genuine, heartfelt, and aspirational LGBTQIA+ representation to more of our future games.
You can read more about this partnership and other ways that the Xbox family is celebrating Pride Month on the Xbox website here. For Microsoft Flight Simulator fans, you can find some player-created livery mods based on Pride liveries from real-world airlines linked later in this article.

Testing for Aircraft and Avionics Update 2 (AAU_02) continues to go well. The teams at Asobo and Working Title are hard at work preparing a new beta build which we target for deployment to testers within the next few days. When the build is released, you can find the patch notes on our forums here. For those who want to stay updated on the latest beta news, we recommend pressing the forum's "bell" icon to be notified whenever a new beta announcement is published.
Thank you to everyone who has enrolled in the test and downloaded the beta build so far. We have been carefully reading all your comments and logging bug reports in our internal tracking tool as required. For anyone not yet enrolled in the beta who would like to test the next major release for Microsoft Flight Simulator, you can find instructions on our forums here.
For anyone who missed it, the 40+ year history of the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise was recently the subject of an in-depth article written by Preston Lerner and published by the National Air and Space Museum. The piece includes several quotations from Bruce Artwick, founder of subLOGIC and the original creator of Flight Simulator as well as other contributors to the series over the years including current MSFS leader Jörg Neumann. You can find the article online here!

Microsoft Flight Simulator is thrilled to add to the beauty of the simulator with fascinating new landscapes. Known as both a continent and a geographic region, and straddling the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Hemispheres, Oceania is comprised of remote coral islands, long stretches of white sand beaches, towering volcanoes, vast interior sweeps of uninhabited rainforest, and populated cities boasting modern architectural wonders. Antarctica is a dream destination for aviators with adventure, intrigue, and boundless vistas of pristine coastal and inland glaciated terrain.
Microsoft Flight Simulator’s World Update XIII includes Polynesia (Hawaii and Easter Island), Melanesia (Fiji, New Caledonia, New Guinea, Indonesia’s West Papua, and the Solomon Islands), the Galapagos Islands and key regions of Antarctica, notably the Antarctic Peninsula. The update provides a total of 13 countries and 28 non-sovereign territories, many with improved resolution that will allow pilots to experience stunning new vistas throughout these regions. The release is based on the latest aerial photographs, satellite imagery, and digital elevation modelling data. There is an updated height field for Hawaii and features the city of Honolulu with dozens of handmade buildings.
