We hope everyone had a relaxing holiday season surrounded by friends and family. The MSFS team has returned from holiday and are now once again hard at work to bring you tonnes of great flight sim content in 2023. Coming up first is Aircraft & Avionics Update 1 (AAU1), which is currently in public beta testing with a full release planned for later in January. Yesterday, we deployed a new build to beta testers; you can see the release notes here.

AAU1 is the first of several updates scheduled for 2023. We have already revealed some of our plans in the 2023 development roadmap, including the next World Update (New Zealand). We also have a few surprises in store for later in the year, so stay tuned for more information about those!

This week will be the last full Development Update Blog for 2022. We will continue to bring you Marketplace Updates on December 8, 15, and 29, and the main blog will return starting January 5, 2023.

Thank you for making 2022 a great year for MSFS! Looking back on the year, we released four Sim Updates, five World Updates, the Top Gun: Maverick expansion, numerous planes in our Local Legends and Famous Flyers series, the iconic Pelican dropship from Halo, and we capped off 2022 with the free 40^th Anniversary Edition update. We have many exciting things planned for MSFS in 2023, and we can’t wait to share them with you soon!

On Monday, November 28, we released update 1.29.30.0 to all players. You can read the patch notes here.

Coming up next week on Friday, December 9 at 1800Z, we are proud to partner with the Reno Air Racing Association for a charity fundraising livestream on our Official Twitch channel. Players on all platforms and of any skill level are invited to join this group flight in the Douglas DC-3 as we fly “The Hump” over the Himalayas from India to China. Please see this forum thread for details on how you can participate.

To all our virtual aviators in the United States, we here at Microsoft Flight Simulator wish you a very happy Thanksgiving! As many members of our team are US-based and are currently visiting family for the holiday long weekend, this week’s Development Update Blog will be abbreviated. We’ll be back with a full blog post again next week.

We continue to carefully monitor your feedback to the 40th Anniversary Edition and Sim Update 11. We have an ongoing public beta test to directly address some of your comments and concerns, and we recently released a new beta build (1.29.30.0) with several bug fixes and improvements, mostly for the Airbus A310.

Last Friday, we were delighted to host Jorg and Seb live on our Twitch channel to answer questions from the community and talk about the 2023 Roadmap for upcoming releases. If you missed the livestream, you can watch the archived video on YouTube here, or check out the written transcription here.

Finally, earlier this week we experienced an issue that prevented players from completing new installations of Microsoft Flight Simulator on PC. This issue is now resolved, and installations are once again functioning normally. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as our support teams worked to get a fix in place.

Microsoft Flight Simulator, now celebrating its 40th anniversary, is the culmination of a dedicated team of developers, a passionate community, and a talented and thriving 3rd party ecosystem, all who share the love of aviation, aircraft, and simulation. In the 27 months since the release of the latest incarnation, Microsoft Flight Simulator has had 27 major updates (all free) that have added additional features, additional aircraft, improved avionics, updated satellite imagery and photogrammetry cities, enhancements to the weather, major additions to the simulation of flight, and much, much more. And this is just the beginning! The roadmap for 2023 is full of amazing updates, new content, and a few surprises, all of which will continue to demonstrate that Microsoft Flight Simulator is a true Labor of Love.

It has been six days since the release of the 40th Anniversary Edition, and we are incredibly thrilled and humbled by the reaction from our player community! We’ve loved reading all your comments and watching your videos as you experience the helicopters, gliders, new planes, and favorite airports from the past such as Meigs and Kai Tak.

We are also carefully monitoring all your feedback and documenting bug reports and other issues. Earlier today, we released a new build to public beta testers, and the team continues working on additional fixes and improvements for future releases. You can review the list of known issues and workarounds here.
