In this patch, we have collected all our labors over the past 4 months, seasoned them with love to our work and a sense of responsibility to you. It's time to dive into the updated and prettier world of Knock on the coffin lid:
Meet a new hero in the KOTCL universe: ― Added a new character - Bjorn. Available 4 classes (perks), a personal set of things for the hero, a new type of weapon (dual weapons), 10+ new items, more than 70 new cards for the new hero.
Content update: ― Added new travel notes; ― Added full professional voice acting for travel notes; ― Many game events and backgrounds are voiced and animated; ― Added story cutscenes for Percival; ― Added Millenis animations; ― Added animation for summoning some units; ― Added animated intentions for double actions (buff + attack, debuff + attack, etc.); ― Added animation for the simultaneous improvement of all cards in the deck; ― Added filters to the deck view panel in battle and on the map; ― Added a glossary, it includes descriptions of all enemies, objects and cards that the user will meet in the process of passing the game (in the future, it is planned to add events and travel notes to the glossary). Since Knock of the coffin lid appeared in Early Access a year ago, we have added a lot of new content to the game, refined some of the mechanics and worked on the audiovisual part of the project. KOTCL has grown a lot and prettier, the current result already resembles what the team intends to show you in the final.
In the coming days, we are planning to release a huge patch that we have been working on over the past months. It will bring the game even closer to the version that you want to present to the audience at the time of release. (how are we waiting for it!)

And now let's discard unnecessary emotions and tell us where we still disappeared from January to March: you will not believe it - our thinned team worked on the game without raising our heads, and during this time we managed to finish Bjorn, yes, very soon you will be able to fully play as a new character! Created video cutscenes, the very ones that were so lacking in the game, finished work with the voice acting, redid the final battles, and added the difficulty balance system that many asked for.

Let's talk a little about the main problem - the balance in Knock on the coffin lid. As soon as the game became available on Steam, there was feedback from users who were dissatisfied with the game design and in-game balance. These were not just messages from people who decided to throw out their negative in our community, not at all. We got worthwhile, motivated feedback from people who understood what they were talking about and really wanted to help us make the game even better. Thanks to such feedback, we managed to solve some of the problems, but, unfortunately, these changes did not affect the whole picture, and the game remained unbalanced.
After leaving lead game designer, we decided to change the concept and approach the issue from a different angle. Nobody knows the game as well as its dedicated players (and the developers, of course), so we decided to collect as much of your feedback on KOTCL under this post as possible. Of course, we understand that in this way we voluntarily open a portal to ... the other world;) But we are ready to re-read the mountains of your constructive and unconstructive comments, evaluate all the proposed ideas (and sometimes you have brilliant one), amend them with our edits and form a roadmap along which we can move together towards the release.
Now you have a chance to become a part of the RedBoon team and influence the future of the project. For doing this, just share your ideas for the development of the game or worthwhile comments in the comments. We are looking for audio professionals and volunteers to help complete our first project, a roguelike game - Knock on the coffin lid. If your whole life is about sound, or rather working with sound, then most likely you are the one for whom there is a place in the RedBoon team.
Our game has been available on Steam for a long time as an Early Access project, but in order to get one step higher and get close to the release, we need to close all our voice acting issues.
In addition to the gameplay, we have a beautiful and cool video. In order not to be unfounded, we will show a piece of the video that we made, but without the sounds, the video is rather dead than alive, despite all the efforts of our artists.
In addition to dubbing the video, RedBoon has a lot of open tasks for game sounds and music. This means that we are looking forward to those who want to be part of a dedicated team or collaborate with us on specific issues to help our game Knock on the coffin lid come out fully.
Most likely you are not familiar with us yet. Let us introduce ourselves. Knock on the coffin lid is a roguelike card game with its own world and style, the atmosphere of the canon fantasy of the Middle Ages and an unobtrusive but addictive storyline from a young Krasnodar development team - RedBoon.
Like all teams, young and ambitious, we decided to embrace the immensity to do: fast, cool on enthusiasm. But as you might guess, making a game with a roster of young and enterprising developers is a risk. But making the game a roster of young developers in 2020 is a risk multiplied by two. Therefore, despite a good idea and a good start, we quickly ran into difficulties. In the spring of 2020, RedBoon left some of its employees, but we did not give up, continued to work and in September Knock on the coffin lid became one of the winners of the Indie CUP, the largest competition for indie games in Eastern Europe, in the Critics Choice nomination.
In December 2020, we planned to launch a full release of KOTCL. But the spring outflow of staff and the departure of the game designer in November greatly slowed down our development, as a result we got the classic situation "expectation vs. reality".
Our story may seem sad, and it really would be if we gave up, but those who remained in the team decided to continue working and look for any opportunities to finish it and give the promised game to those who believe in us and support us.
So, moving away from the lyrics, we need a fighter in the team who will close our tasks by sounds. Will become a part of the team, maybe for a while, and will bring us closer to the release of our complex but cool and worthwhile project Knock on the coffin lid.
Friends, this year was difficult for everyone, but for our small studio it was absolutely fatal: in the spring, one of the founders - art director Alexander Shatokhin, left the project. And now another founder - game designer Vadim Bgatsev, has left the project. It is difficult for a small studio to compete for employee with the giants of the Russian industry. After the breakup of the team, funding was almost terminated. This sequence of events will significantly slow down the pace of development, as the team is severely curtailed.
We managed to lay the foundation for the game, make a huge number of developments, participate in the Indie Cup and win the Critics' Choice nomination - this is a huge achievement.
