Suzerain - Fellow Ame

The inauguration ceremony is nearly upon us. Tomorrow, at 8am PT, Friday the 4th of December Anton Rayne will step into the role of President of Sordland. How will you lead this nation? What will your term entail? Let’s find out!

To put it simply, in November we finished Suzerain “completely”. While finishing a game is not a real thing since no game is truly finished, I would like to call it drawing a line in the sand. We drew the line and here we are in this significant moment. As developers we are satisfied with what we have achieved so far and we know exactly what we can do to keep improving on Suzerain after launch.

We’ve also added 45 Steam achievements! Some are more common than others and the endings are hidden so nobody gets spoiled. Achievements in general are very fitting for Suzerain due to the branching narrative so expect some more to sneak in the future. Let’s see how many you get to unlock on the first run.

While this journey has been a personal one for the team, in the end this game is for you, the players. It is your thoughts that really matter and we hope that you enjoy Suzerain as much as we did making it over these four years. When we set forth on this journey, we had a story to tell that had to get out. It was the circumstances of our surroundings that triggered creating the game, but the message was larger than any circumstance. Than any one person. This is our own Mona Lisa as Torpor Games.

I can’t thank you all enough for being here with us. I can’t thank the team enough for putting thousands upon thousands of hours into this. I can’t thank all the organisations enough that supported us on this journey and believed in our story without doubt or little there of. At the end of the day we are lucky and we just worked hard on top of this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Want to join us for the big moment? We are going live on Steam tomorrow the 4th of December at 4pm CET / 7am PT, where you can directly chat and ask questions to the developers. Daeron Augustus will be streaming the game after the launch section of the livestream has completed at 6pm CET / 9am PT and will be streaming on Twitch, Youtube and Facebook. Special thanks to his passion for Suzerain make sure to check out his channel!

So what does the future entail? It will be a step by step process. We will monitor the launch and apply hotfixes that are critical where necessary in the two weeks following the release. Our team will also take a much needed break during this period to rejuvenate.

For now, we wish nothing but good luck tomorrow President.

Glory to Sordland!

Congratulations to Gloria Tory, who was re-elected as Speaker of the Grand National Assembly for the second term in the election. She is the first woman in Sordland to hold the position.

Mrs Tory has had a monumental career in politics for a woman. She rose quickly in USP after she was elected to the Grand National Assembly in 1937. She was appointed as adviser to the Minister of Interior in 1938, before being brought as the spokeswoman for Home Affairs in 1942, and the spokeswoman for Education in 1944. In 1949, she was elected as the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly, in protest against President Alphonso's reformist agenda.

She was a strong critic of Alphonso’s presidency, and became famed for her obstructions in the assembly of some of his policies. Regarded as a charismatic politician and a tough negotiator, Mrs Tory is credited for major lobbying incidents within the USP which shifted the political landscape during the last decade.

It’s been a big year for beloved Sordish poet, novelist, and politician, Bernard Circas. Earlier this month he became the first communist to be elected to the Grand National Assembly of Sordland in the 1953 election. Now, his latest poetry collection is about to be published.

The collection features Circas’ trademark avant-garde lyrical flow, as it follows his journey as a young man, escaping the Sordish Civil War, fleeing to United Contana. He cites Contanan futurism poets and the ideological vision of Malenyev as inspiration.

Critics are calling his latest work a masterpiece. The Radical sends our deepest congratulations to Bernard Circas on his collection, as well as his appointment to the National Assembly. We cannot wait to see what you achieve in office.

It’s incredibly disheartening to report that the National Front Party has received it’s largest number of votes in history, making them the third largest party in Sordland.

The Radical are no supporters of the USP, but the NFP are a plague on what Sordland could become. We have not forgotten the ethnic nationalist political propaganda and threatening campaigns the NFP used in their early days.

While their campaigns have moderated over time, they have shown their true colours and where their values really stand. The nationalist ultra conservative political party led by Kesaro Kibener has used a failed assassination attempt on the leader as a way to push the anti-secession movement, to prevent Bludia from breaking away from Sordland. Kibener believes the Bludish people, who simply want basic human rights, are trying to erase the Sordish identity.

While it has never been verified by the state or himself, Kibener was rumoured to be the private who announced General Luderin’s ‘27 military coup against President Artor Wisci on radio broadcast, effectively ensuring the civil war personally.

We can only pray that the spineless USP can stand up to this would-be tyrant.

Iosef Lancea, the upcoming Minister of Defence of Sordland, has publicly condemned the mandatory conscription law, that enforces all Sordish citizens to serve in the military for one year.

Lancea is advocating for a modern, professional force of willingly enlisted soldiers. He believes the high number of cadets extend the army's logistics, slowing command structure and reducing the combat efficiency of experienced units.

Previously as Inspector General of the Army and Captain during the Sordland Civil War, Lancea definitely knows his stuff when it comes to the military. He even served under the command of Colonel Tarquin Soll before his presidency.

Lancea has been a member of the United Sordland Party since its formation in 1929, and was a big critic of Alphonso’s policies, leading him to support the president-elect. Anton Rayne is yet to confirm his stance on Mandatory Conscription, and how it will affect the lives of young Sordish citizens.

Lileas Graf, the mayor of Holsord from 1948 to 1952, has been selected to serve as Minister of Interior of Sordland in the new Rayne administration.

Mrs Graf has been a member of the United Sordland Party since its formation in 1929. Prior, she was a sergeant in the Women’s Army Corps and the mayor of Arvory from 1940 to 1947

A favourite of Soll’s, Graf’s policies on urban planning and public education transformed Holsord’s economy and boosted her popularity in the capital. She is credited for the economic booms in both Arvory and Holsord.

As one of the most influential supporters of the president-elect’s, she is currently one of the central figures in the United Sordland party. We are saddened to lose Lileas Graf as our mayor, but watch on with pride as she steps into the Rayne administration.

Anton Rayne’s cabinet of ministers has been announced ahead of the presidential inauguration.

Three women in the cabinet marks the largest number of women in a presidential cabinet in Sordish history. Anton Rayne’s dedication to diversity in his cabinet is impressive, and we can only hope that the women selected are worthy of their positions. One notable minister is Lileas Graf, who has been a member of the United Sordland Party since its formation in 1929, and was a sergeant in the Women’s Army Corps before she began her political career. A favourite of Soll’s, Lileas is respected as an expert on urban development and police relations, and has been an influential supporter of Anton Rayne’s candidacy.

Iosef Lancea is another long serving member of the USP. He was a captain during the Sordish Civil War and served under the command of Colonel Tarquin Soll before his presidency. Lancea has been very critical of President Ewald Alphonso’s policies during his term.

Other interesting choices from Rayne is Symon Holl, who was a big supporter of the free market reforms of President Ewald Alphonso. Gus Manger the only member of the cabinet who managed to retain his position from the Alphonso administration. Deivid Wisci would continue to open our borders to immigrants and believes we have opposed the Bludish people. Ciara Walda only became a member of the USP once Anton’s candidacy was announced, and was previously an independent MP.

Anton Rayne's full upcoming USP cabinet:
  • Petr Vectern - Vice President
  • Symon Holl - Minister of Economy, Commerce and Energy
  • Gus Manger - Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development
  • Lucian Galade - Chief Strategist
  • Lileas Graf - Minister of Interior
  • Deivid Wisci - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade
  • Iosef Lancea - Minister of Defence and Security
  • Ciara Walda - Minister of Education, Technology & Research
  • Paskal Beniwoll - Minister of Health, Social Affairs and Labour
  • Nia Morgna - Minister of Justice and Law

The People's Freedom and Justice Party are once again the USP’s opposition, led by Frens Ricter. This election marks the highest number of votes the PFJP has received, Ricter citing their “calls for change” as the reasons for the rising number of votes.

Frens Ricter has been Chairman of the PFJP since 1949, and missed out on his first opportunity to take the majority away from the USP. Ricter has been in contention to Soll since the former president saved Sordland from the Military Coup in 1929.

He has called our current constitution, the driving force behind our republic “undemocratic,” and labeled Soll as a “dictator.” Yet, his strong ideals did not stop him from becoming a major shareholder of the construction company, Taurus Holding, despite his role in government. Ricter needs to get his priorities sorted, and pray that Anton Rayne will be merciful to the hypocritical politician.

This really ought to go without saying, but apparently when it comes to Sordland and the USP, everything needs to be spelled out. No Justice of the Supreme Court should be entitled to absolute immunity.

Insignia of the Supreme Court

Orso Hawker is the prime example of why Justices should not be immune. Many of his decisions incorporated controversial policies of Tarquin Soll, including the ruling that the Bludish Freedom Party entering the elections was unconstitutional, effectively removing the Bludish identity from politics.

While slightly better than the current Chief Justice, Heron Garaci’s brother in law is none other than General Luderin, who caused the Sordish Civil War in 1927, and murdered countless citizens. Justice Garaci was implicated in the coup, but investigations were mysteriously dropped during Tarquin Soll’s term as president. He became infamous for his obstructionist methods against President Ewald Alphonso and his policies.

Isabel Edmonds is somewhat of a trailblazer in the Supreme Court. She is the youngest person to serve in the High Court of Appeals and first woman to serve in the Supreme Court. While she’s spoken out about the “oppression of the Sollist state apparatus” numerous times, her socially conservative and anti-communist views don’t do her any favours.

After all, if a president can be impeached, why can’t a Justice?

Get to know the new First Family of Sordland ahead of the presidential inauguration!

Upcoming First Lady of Sordland, Monica Rayne was born in Lachaven. She met Anton during their university days, through mutual friend and Vice President-elect Petr Vectern. She has a degree in sociology and has worked as a social worker, with Magnus Cartus, and with the Sordish League of Women. What a busy woman! Let’s hope this forward thinking lady is up to her First Lady duties, and isn’t too distracted by all her other roles.

Anton and Monica have two children together, Franc and Deana. This is the first time there will be presidential children in the Maroon Palace! Franc is 16 years old and beginning to prepare for university. All of Sordland will be watching closely as the First Son takes steps towards adulthood, and if he’ll follow in his father’s footsteps. What big shoes to fill! Boys all across Sordland might wish the President could help them with their studying.

Little Deana is a precious young girl, only 8 year old, attending elementary school in Holsord. We expect she’s thrilled to soon be living in the Maroon Palace, the perfect home for a little princess.

The Rayne family are expected to be shining examples of Sordish values during their time in the Maroon Palace.
