Sea of Thieves' August is slightly more low-key than usual thanks to a few coronavirus-related wrinkles, but there're still a few notable opportunities incoming - including a season of summer events with handsome rewards and a new ship set inspired by classic Rare brawler Battletoads - which can be acquired from tomorrow with a little bit of effort.
Those eager to secure some retro flair for their vessels will need to start by acquiring a copy of developer Dlala Studios' brash new Battletoads reboot, which is out tomorrow, 20th August, on Xbox One and PC. It's also available on Game Pass, meaning subscribers with a hankering for some mean, green livery already have an easy route in.
By completing Battletoads' first act "at any time", players will unlock the full Fightin' Frogs Ship Set for use in Sea of Thieves, consisting of six appropriately themed pieces: sails, hull, flag, cannons, wheel, and capstan. You can see how all that looks in the announcement video below.
The August update just landed in Sea Of Thieves, and while it’s not big or dramatic as last month’s Ashen Winds update, it brings plenty of new bits and pieces to keep everyone entertained over the next few weeks. A bunch of live events will be taking place in Rare’s excellent pirate sandbox, including a time-limited one that challenges players to take out a load of the game’s fearsome megalodons and collect their teeth.
Microsoft is having a good time on Steam right now, with a number of its game in the top-sellers list.
Obsidian's Grounded is in fact the top-selling game on Steam's platform - at the time of this article's publication. Perhaps that isn't surprising given the game has seen over one million players in the first 48 hours of release.
The second top-selling game on Steam is another Microsoft game - this one not yet out. Microsoft Flight Simulator, which Martin is currently into in a very big way, is currently flying high on Steam.
Ah is it that time of the month already? Rare have updated their seafaring pirate ’em up and as usual there are new things that can kill you. The Haunted Shores update for Sea Of Thieves adds fleets of spooky ghost ships directed by big bad Captain Flameheart. They’ve made updates to the non-verbal callouts system and, important for yours truly, a radial picker for playing tunes on your instruments.
