Not For Broadcast - Lucy
Hello, you lovely lot.

Not For Broadcast: Lockdown is now less than a week away from launch. While we suppress the urge to hide under the covers and call our mums, we thought we’d give you all a glimpse into what’s coming your way soon.

As soon as the clock chimes 6PM BST / 10AM PST / 1PM EST on June 25th - all owners of Not For Broadcast will get this bonus chapter as a free update (if Steam allows…).

Us lot at the dev team will also be going live on the hour with insightful behind the scenes stories, sober commentary and live gameplay of the chapter. Well… maybe just the last one.
We’ll be joined by eight very special guests you may recognise from the National Nightly News - a few politicians, the odd couple of interviewees, and maybe two anchormen, if you’re lucky.

Follow our Twitch channel here to get an alert when we go live, or join us on the Not For Broadcast Steam page.

If you’d like to go into the game with no teasers whatsoever, we’d recommend skipping this post. However, if you’re looking for some out-of-context screenshots to start putting your theories together, read on…

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀You’ll have plenty of time to snoop into the cast’s living rooms in this chapter.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Spot any familiar faces?

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Ding ding, time for round two for these interviewees. (Yes, he’s back.)

If you’d like to share your conspiracy theories on the plot of Not For Broadcast: Lockdown, the place to be is our Discord channel. We’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas - so we can steal them for future levels and claim them as our own.

It’s been a wild ride, with only thirteen weeks from conceptualising Not For Broadcast: Lockdown to sending our baby out into the world. Out of respect and sensitivity, it’s been a conscious choice of ours not to include any mention of a virus in this chapter. However, we hope the story we’ve put together can help bring you some smiles in this weird world we find ourselves in.

… Hey does something smell like… pink fur and love in here? Nah. Must just be our imagination.

Counting down the days until we’re no longer under NDA,
Your pals,
NotGames

Well, hello there.

We're quickly approaching the release of our upcoming bonus chapter Not For Broadcast: Lockdown on June 25th, and your support has been amazing. So, we thought we’d take a break from screaming, crying and phoning our Dads asking why he let us become game developers in the first place - and treat you to an official teaser trailer!

We know you’re dead keen to nosy in on what our actors’ homes look like, so let’s get to it:

Rest assured, these aren’t all the familiar faces that will be returning. Although Not For Broadcast: Lockdown is a bonus chapter, you’ll be seeing 14 actors over the course of the story - some old, some new, and some still trying to promote their god-awful book.

Alright, time to head back into our living room pillow forts. You’ll next hear from us again with a big ol’ launch trailer, where you’ll get a glimpse of what strange goings-on have led the National Nightly News team to report from their homes.

We’re sure it’s nothing serious.

With our four hugging arms and Real Action Eyes,
The NotGames Team

Two updates in one week? Don’t say we don’t spoil you.

Hello you lovely chaps you - we know it feels like just yesterday we released our game into the wild, but today actually marks the four month anniversary of Not For Broadcast’s launch! Soon it’ll be calling us all dada and staying up past bedtime playing NotCoD.

To celebrate this milestone, we wanted to share with you a mini documentary on what the NotGames offices looked like on Launch Day, all that time ago.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀You can tell we're indie because Andy’s drinking Moet out of a mug.

It was a stressful time - tears were shed, swears were sworn and cushions were thrown, but at 6pm on January 30th 2020, Not For Broadcast successfully launched on Steam, and we’d achieved what three years ago seemed like a far off dream.

We want to thank you all for the immense support you’ve shown throughout our Early Access development, whether it be through chatting with us on the Discord, making choice memes with us on Twitter, or simply playing the game/sharing it with friends - we are eternally grateful for you all.

So, before we start ugly crying, here’s our mini documentary we made of ourselves that nobody asked for but our hubris demanded - Launching An Indie Game: Not For Broadcast.

Your mates,

Hello hello!

We’ve had to keep this secret for a while and it’s been bloody hard to not spoil it, so we’re equal parts excited and relieved to finally announce what we’ve been working on.

Let’s hand over to the man himself, Jeremy Donaldson, with the news.

That’s right, we’re releasing a brand new bonus chapter of Not For Broadcast on June 25th (gulp!)

And, because we love you all so much, we can reveal that the chapter title will be Not For Broadcast: Lockdown - and give you a sneak peek at a screenshots with some familiar faces...

Don’t worry about having to bring out your wallet - if you’ve bought Not For Broadcast, you’ll automatically get this chapter for free.

We’re so excited to share this bonus chapter with you, it’s been a real labour of love, and we’re hoping it’ll bring a smile to your face for a little while. It was a hard decision to postpone shooting Episode 2, but we’re incredibly proud that our team of developers and actors could come together to bring you a new chapter, entirely made under lockdown.

For more insight into how Not For Broadcast: Lockdown was put together, have a gander at some recent interviews we’ve done, where we go into more detail:

Otherwise, watch this space for more previews as we head towards the 25th.

Sweating profusely,
The NotGames Team

Hello, you lovely lot! We hope you’re doing alright on this.. Friday? Maybe? Days aren’t real.

Things have been incredibly busy at NotGames towers over the past few weeks (well, we've been busy in our living rooms in pyjamas...) - we’re about to head into post-production on the next big content drop for Not For Broadcast.

What is that content looking like? Well, we’ve recently been revealing little teasers of what you can expect in some interviews we’ve been lucky enough to be invited to.

The short story is that new FMV content is coming, but it’ll look different to what either of us expected. We’ve put together a whole new script in less than a month, and our bloody brilliant cast of actors have really risen to the challenge of filming from their homes.

We’ve chatted in more detail about our development plans and current creative process in the interviews below, if you want to find out more. As soon as we have more details to announce, you’ll be the first to know!

As a treat for getting to the bottom of this post, here’s a very sneaky preview of our current set-up. Behold, the aftermath of an incredible blooper that will 100% be the pride of a blooper reel in the future.

We hope you’re still laughing in these weird times, and hopefully we can give you a few chuckles soon.

Your pals,

Not For Broadcast - Lucy
That’s right, you lot asked for it. The blooper reel for Episode 1 is here!

I mean.. You really asked for it. Turns out a lot of people really want to see us fart around on camera. And you said this wasn’t a real career, dad.

We really appreciate the enthusiasm you guys have shown in watching behind the scenes content for Not For Broadcast - it’s been a lot of work (and lots more to come).

Alright, less stalling.. Here’s the blooper reel for Episode 1 of Not For Broadcast.

Reminder - we’re live with another developer stream next Thursday (23/04/2020), 12PM PST / 3PM EST / 8PM BST!

So, if you have any questions about what the [BLEEP] we’re up to in this reel, we can answer them there.

Let us know if you want to see more behind the scenes blunders in the future - we definitely have enough of them!

Your pals,

Hey there you lovely people.

If you’ve read the subject of this update, you’ll know what we’re about to announce - we’re doing a Reddit AMA! (And if AMAs aren’t your thing, stay until the end of this post for a behind the scenes video we’ve put together just for you!)

Ask Us Anything!

We get a lot of questions daily about Not For Broadcast - how we made certain scenes, where the inspiration came from and when the [BLEEP]ing [BLEEP] the next update will be out. So, we wanted to give you guys a chance to ask us directly and get your answers.

When: Sunday, 5th April @ 9PM BST / 1PM PDT
Where: r/Games
Who?: The NotGames development team!

Behind the Scenes

As promised, we wanted to share with you a little behind the scenes peak at what a typical day of filming Not For Broadcast looks like. Here’s a video we put together in 2019 while filming the adverts for Jus Du Cochon and a certain flammable children’s toy...

Are there any other moments you’d like to see behind the scenes of? We’d love to know!

See you at our AMA!

Your good mates,
The NotGames Team
Not For Broadcast - Lucy
Hello again, friends! We’re living through some very strange times right now, but we’re determined to keep going. We’re putting together alternative plans for the next big Not For Broadcast update, adapting to the current situation. Don’t worry, you’ll be getting some additional new content as promised, but it may look slightly different to what you were expecting!

If you’re currently doing this whole social distancing or self-isolation malarkey, never fear - we have some plans to keep you entertained over the coming weeks and months.

Streaming schedule
We’re going to be streaming the game and answering your questions. All our upcoming livestreams will take place simultaneously here on Steam and on Twitch. We’re planning for them to last for 2-3 hours each, and we’ll be taking questions on those platforms as well as our Discord.

Our next Stream will start at 12PM PST / 3PM EST / 7PM GMT on Thursday 26th March.

After that, we’ll be streaming again at the same time (except that will be 8PM GMT because of time travel) on Thursday 9th April.

From then on, we hope to settle into a pattern of monthly streaming. We might try to up this to fortnightly if at all possible. We’ll announce further dates on our Twitter and Discord.

Challenge the developers
Because we’re big fans of unnecessary levels of challenge, we’re also inviting you to pitch us your zaniest ideas for new challenging ways you’d like to see us play our own game.

What would happen if we played while blindfolded? Is it possible to complete a chapter while singing Happy Birthday repeatedly the whole time? What could possibly go wrong if we tried to get through the first episode using our feet instead of our hands? The list of possibilities is endless - so share your best ideas in the comments below and we’ll try to get our favourites into our upcoming streams.

...We’re going to regret this, aren’t we?

Ask us anything
As well as taking questions on our upcoming livestreams, we’re also planning to host a Reddit AMA! We’re still fleshing out the details of when this will be - but if you follow us on Twitter and join our Discord, you’ll be the first to know.

Thanks again for all your support, and hope to see you in the next stream!

Hi there! We wanted to take this opportunity to say our thanks and let you in on a few plans for Not For Broadcast’s future.

Here's a quick video from us to you, and below it is a more detailed breakdown of our upcoming plans:

Thank you!

Thanks for checking out Not For Broadcast - whether you’ve bought, streamed, tweeted about, reviewed, chatted or rang up your mum about our game then thank you, it all means the world.

There’s no way we could have expected that with over 1000 reviews we’d be at 97% positive, or that we’d make the front page of Steam for so long.

We decided to stream upon launch for what we’d thought might be 4-5 hours, to say hi to you all and celebrate what we’d achieved together. That stream turned out to be 12 hours, and we ended up doing it again and again until we ended up at around 26 hours worth of streaming in the first 55 hours after launch.

Above all, the most amazing thing that happened was when people on our streams bought copies for other viewers, complete strangers they never spoke to before - we can’t accurately express how incredible it is to see that kind of generosity, let alone to see it involving our game.

Community Requests

We’ve been paying attention to the feedback and requests you’ve given us through launch, and we’ve begun planning a few new tweaks and additions to the game we think you might like. (Some of these have been implemented in the first month of patches (things like adding in a Level Select and being able to Hang Up the Tutorial).)

Requests already added
  • Level Select
  • Hanging up the tutorial

Other Requests
  • Scoring system rework: audience reaction should be positive to viewing certain backstage footage (the moment where Blunderclatch blows up after his interview comes to mind - currently the audience switches off if you show this, but a large section of our players have pointed out, and rightly so, it would make more sense for audience to go up at this point, but for your boss to be unhappy with you instead)
  • A “challenge mode”: to really test your skills when editing Broadcasts. We’re hoping the addition of Free Play in the Gameplay Update will cater to this as well as providing a fun new way to play the game and earn specific rewards.
  • Backstage/Behind the Scenes content: Things like blooper reels, videos showing the process of actually making the game, that sort of thing. We’ve actually taken on board a videographer to help out with the backstage stuff now we know you guys want to see it!
  • Not For Broadcast OST: Almost all the music in Not For Broadcast is written/composed/performed in-house by Jason Orbaum, with some help from some other rather talented individuals (full details can be found in the game’s credits!). Having long ago done a comedy album for one of our previous much smaller and less substantial titles, we’re quite keen to release an OST for this one as well!
  • Revamp the Archive: The most frequent request that we have plans to implement in our first big Gameplay Update is to revamp the Archive/Rushes room. In addition to doing some general tidying up of these areas, we’ll be adding a Fast Forward/Rewind function to the tapes, to give much more flexibility for players wanting to watch back previous Broadcasts or see the bits they weren’t supposed to show live on air.

Roadmap
So you can all have a good nosy at what we’re up to, here’s our current roadmap:
All of the below are priority targets, and do not form an exhaustive list of content to be added/updated.

Upcoming Secret Opportunity (shh..)
To round out this update, you may have heard rumours that we’re currently casting for new episodes of Not For Broadcast. Well, we’d really like to involve you guys by opening up that process to you.

That’s right - you might be in with a chance to be an extra in a scene featured on the National Nightly News.

We’re still figuring out the logistics, but rest assured we’ll be back in touch as and when we have them. We want to really give back and thank you guys for all your support, and this opportunity will only be the start.

We’ve also set up a brand new Not For Broadcast newsletter which will let you in on a few behind the scenes secrets and updates - you may already be signed up if you’ve entered your email on the tinyBuild or NotGames website - but the link to join is here.

Thanks again, you absolute beauties -
The NotGames team.
