Last but not least, a special Holiday wish from our family to yours...
See you all in the new year, where we'll have plenty of exciting updates to come!
In the month of October we learned all about Revenants, watched more live art, had more reveals and one very special guest, Thor Myrdal! Let's go through each stream, just in case you missed it!
October’s Lore of the Dead stream was all about Revenants! Warriors in life, these undead once had a code of honor, dedicated their entire lives to their purpose, and in return were faced with unimaginable betrayal. They fought death itself, clawing their way back to the realm of the living to seek revenge. Mike, Jack and Xan delved deep into the morals of our favorite vengeance-driven class, citing inspirations from history around the world.
In our Brushes with Death stream, we watched as James Macleod transformed the Draco-Liche even further, adding detail and textures and describing his inspirations and ideas live. James is the art director for Deadhaus Sonata and every month we get to see exactly why! He gives in-depth descriptions of art terminology and the technology behind how he makes his masterpieces.
We had a very special guest on our Chains of Truth stream- Thor Myrdal! He is an amazing musician, sound designer and voice actor we are thrilled to work with. Thor is lending his voice to Deadhaus to create the spell system using Proto-Indo European (PIE). We even got to hear a few spells!
Last but not least, on our Out of the Shadows stream we had not one but two reveals! We already saw the concept art for the Werebat form, and now we get to see polished 3D renders! But that wasn't the only Halloween treat in store; we also got to see a stunning Flythrough of the Tech Demo Arena!
That's it for October's streams; if you want to catch future streams they happen every Wednesday at 4:00 EST on Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook. If you want to stay up-to-date on development progress and get involved in the community don't forget to join our Discord, follow us on Twitter, and subscribe to our Youtube page for future videos! (links below). And don't forget, in the world of Malorum, our bell tolls for all...
The September streams were filled with lore, new designs, community guests, and one major reveal!! We learned a lot about Vampires from Mike, Jack and Xan in the Lore of the Dead stream. We learned about the various histories of vampirism across different cultures and where the inspirations for the Vampires of Deadhaus came from. Blood curses, viruses, silver, voodoo, rituals, death... Jack delves into the mythos and explains more about the Vampires we will come to know and love (and play as!). We learned that every Vampire of Malorum can be traced back to one single creature- the Red Lady. Bloodlines will be very important, and as Jack revealed, depending on which age you start with, there may be origin stories available to you only within that age. All the more reason to get a Supporter Pack and get in on the First Age...
James Macleod, the Art Director for Apocalypse Studios, gave us some awesome art tips in the Brushes with Death stream! We got to watch as James showed us his creative process and talked about all of his inspirations when creating his masterpieces. We watched as a plain sphere was sculpted into the beginning stages of the Draco-Liche right before our eyes! If you want to watch the master work his craft, don't miss out on this one!
In the Chains of Truth stream, we listened to CEO Denis Dyack talk about his own origin story and how he came to be the legendary game creator we know and love today. We also got to hear all about the founding of Apocalypse Studios!
We also had a full cast during the Community Scream Stream, starring our special guests Big_Haddy, Gilcan, and Horror_Historian! We covered their favorite classes and they fought their way through tough battle scenarios. We even had an extra special guest, Jericho the cat! Will his adorable face inspire you to join #TeamJericho? Or will the many-headed wight on #TeamHaddy steal your heart?
And finally, we had one BIG REVEAL on our Out of the Shadows stream! Denis announced that there will be a Combat Room Demo available before the end of 2021!! We'll get to play as everyone's favorite Vampire, Lord Zorin, and take out waves of our enemies from the Thacean Empire. If you'd like to help name the combat room, visit the forum here! We are currently asking you, the community, to pick your favorite name for this mysterious arena below Os Kurrox. If you have an idea you'd like to see on the ballot, it's not too late to throw your hat into the ring! Sign up for free in the forum and tell us what you want to see!
So join us every Wednesday for more streams like these for lore, art, design and always the possibility for more beans to be spilled! And don't forget, in the world of Malorum, our bell tolls for all...

Apocalypse Studios Inc., a cloud-first video game studio based in St. Catharines, Ontario, has announced it has teamed up with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and The Linux Foundation to launch the Open 3D Engine (O3DE). Apocalypse will highlight Deadhaus Sonata, a narrative-driven action RPG to illustrate the new engine’s power and graphic fidelity. The brains behind Apocalypse Studios are no strangers to the industry. Founder Denis Dyack is the creator of critically-acclaimed video games, including Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem, and Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, and plans on changing the way people play games.
“The Open 3D Engine is the largest open-source project in history, forever changing game development”, said Denis Dyack, CEO and founder of Apocalypse Studios. “Apocalypse Studios is excited to announce that Deadhaus Sonata is now one of the first games being powered by the Open 3D Engine. ‘The Old World’ teaser illustrates the graphical power of O3DE, allowing developers to achieve things previously impossible.”
“We are delighted to be working with Apocalypse Studios,” said Royal O’Brien, O3DE Project Lead. “Apocalypse has been an excellent development partner, as Deadhaus Sonata is a breathtakingly beautiful game that highlights the potential of the Open 3D Engine. Apocalypse, together with the Open 3D Foundation, will lead the way in changing the way development is done, opening the way for hyper-advanced and democratized schemes in the development space.”
Apocalypse Studios and AWS are only a part of the group behind the project run by the Open 3D Engine Foundation. The Open 3D Engine Foundation works directly with an extensive array of partners to ensure developers have all the tools they need to create their games, tell their stories, and build the ultimate detailed experience in their simulation.
“The number of partners behind this effort is truly awe-inspiring, and O3DE will usher in an unprecedented collaboration of companies”, said Denis Dyack, CEO of Apocalypse. “This is a watershed moment for the games industry, changing forever the way games are made.”
