Here is the latest development news from the game.
We introduced the Bandit Invasion at the last update. That was the first of the town statuses which involve fighting. We continue to develop town battles more.
Towns now may be affected by Vermin Infestations. All the facilities of the town will be closed and the hero may fight the infestation to save the town and earn reputation. Infestations can be made by Giant Rats, Giant Cockroaches or Giant Centipedes.
We are adding more battlemaps for towns to increase variety combined with the procedural elements for each map.
A new overworld incident added also. Hero meets a princess who has been attacked by bandits and escaped. She needs to go to a town. Town gains 5 prosperity on her arrival. Bandits or Cultists may come after her. Or perhaps the town is infested by vermins and you have to fight first to ensure her safety.
As usual, we will add more talent stones. For this coming update, we are going to focus on stones which give damage to multiple enemies.
A new Town Status added: Bandit Invasion. Everything is scarce in shops and town prosperity will suffer. You will be stopped by a bandit at the town enterance. You can fight the bandits to save the town and earn some reputation and loot. Alternatively, you can pay the bandit, intimidate or sneak pass him. You can pickpocket him too and pay him with his own coins.
A new Town Status added: Royal marriage. Food is abundant and cheap but resting at tavern is expensive. It also improves city prosperity like other good city statuses.
New battlemaps added for the town battles to take place.
New Talent Stone added: Explosive Arrows. It explodes on impact and sets the enemy and all adjacent enemies on fire for 2-4 turns.
New Talent Stone added: Astral Resistance. It gives +15 to all resistances for 10 turns. (elemental, mind, nature)
New monster added: Giant Centipede
New monster ability added: Health Regeneration
New materials added for the giant centipede
2 new shields added; Ancient Shield and Spider Silk Shield
New potion added; Potion of Vitality. It gives +50 to both stamina and health
CHANGES
Sharkmen now have regeneration ability.
All the armor shops now sell shields.
FIXES
Fixed a bug when sometimes you can camp at the sea.
Fixed a bug where sometimes the game shows wrong discount ratio at the shops.
Fixed a bug where lockpick count was wrong on the UI.
We are getting ready for our next update and would like to share with you some news about what to look forward to.
We will add 2 new town statuses: Royal Marriage and Bandit Invasion.
Royal marriage makes food abundant and cheap but resting at tavern expensive. It also improves town prosperity like other positive events.
Bandit Invasion makes everything scarce and expensive. You can’t enter the town without confronting the bandits. You can sneak or pay them. You can also fight the bandits to save the town. We are adding town battlefields for these fights to take place.
Also coming is a new monster type: Giant Centipede. They will be fast and their attack may stun you. And they will also have a new monster ability: regeneration.
Last but not least, we will be adding some new Talent Stones and Potions which we will explain in detail when we announce the update.
Happy new year to everyone! Two weeks passed after EA release and we are ready with a new update implementing some new content as well as some changes and requests coming from the community. See below the update notes for version 0.684.
New talent stones:
"Bear's Call" talent stone: Hero turns into a bear and gains increased attack and damage. Hero consumes more food when in bear form. He can’t open backpack. Slimes can’t break his equipment.
"Bat's Call" talent stone: Hero turns into a bat. He can drain life when successfully attacked in bat form. Also he can fly over water tiles. He can’t open backpack. Slimes can’t break his equipment.
"Spectral Scream" talent stone stuns all adjacent enemies.
"Stunning Shot" talent stone
"Poison Arrow" talent stone
"Frost Arrow" talent stone
"Poison Blade" talent stone
A new starting character: Druid. He’s got Bear’s Call and Crippling Strike talent stones at start. He’s got a high Wilderness Survival skill so can avoid encounters more easily. Along with Retired Gladiator and Highlander, he’s one of the more suitable characters for beginners.
A new overworld incident: "A lady needs help". When travelling on the overworld, the hero may meet a lady who needs help with her caravan stuck in mud. If you succeed an athletics check, she can award you. Award is better than other NPC’s because she is wealthy.
But this encounter can be a set up and evolve into a dangerous situation.
Changes:
Ranged combat skill now increases your arrow capacity.
Thievery skill now increases your lockpick capacity.
Spider cocoons may spawn a spider sometimes.
Made spiders immune to poison.
Made snakes immune to poison.
Fixes:
Fearless enemies will not escape from warcry.
Fixed greeting at towns. Now it won't say "clear skies" when it is raining.
Fixed some Talent Stones which were not scaling up properly.
Fixed a bug when you can have more than 20 skill points on one skill.
Glad to share our first dev-blog after Early Access Release! We’d like to thank our growing community for the encouraging reviews, inspiring feature requests and most helpful reports.
We are working on new Talent Stones for the next update. Here are few examples:
Bear’s Call: Hero shapeshifts into a bear. His melee attack and melee damage increases. Food consumption increases in bear form.
Bat’s Call: Hero shapeshifts in to a bat. He may drain life with a successful attack and can fly over water.
Stunning Shot: This conveniently named Talent Stone stuns the enemy with a ranged attack.
Spectral Scream: All adjacent enemies stun with an unworldly scream of the hero
Please keep in mind that some Talent Stones can be combined. So, if you have a Bear’s Call and an Invisibility Stone, you can use one after the other and become an invisible bear and surprise attack those bandits with an increased critical attack.
We are also planning to add a few overworld incidents to make wilderness travelling all the more interesting. We should be able to release this update next week.
Thank you everybody for checking out our game. Here is a small bug fix update. Content update coming soon!
Fixed a bug about leveling up after lvl 15. Fixed a bug about xp indicator bar not showing correctly sometimes. Fixed a bug about travelling merchant skill checks.
Hi everyone, We have some news indeed: after years of development, Terra Randoma is finally hitting Early Access on the 17th of December! (Actually the first prototype dates back to 2011!) We sincerely thank our amazing team of testers, content creators and fellow indie game developers who participated Beta testing over the last few months.
We have prepared a road map and will announce it shortly after the release.
Hi everyone, Another month passed with Beta testing and development, and we’d like to share with you what has been going on.
We changed the algorithm of dungeon generation. So now some dungeons are composed only with large halls. There are no corridors or tight spaces inside them. This gives advantages to range attacks, both yours and those of the enemies. This development increases variety of dungeons and adds character to each.
We changed the text design of the enemy rollovers. They are more informative and readable now.
We added some new enemies:
Giant Bees: You may bump into them on the overworld. They do not come up when it rains. They have poison and bleed attacks. They can fly over water tiles and drop precious loot like “Nectar”. There is a new chest-like associated to this new enemy, too: Beehive.
Scorpions: They lurk at the mountains and inside the Minotaur/Stone Golem Dungeon. They may have poison or fire attacks.
Sharkmen: You may fight with them during sea travelling. They also come out of pools. They can travel both on land and sea tiles. They are very strong and have bleed attack.
In addition to new enemies, we have a new dungeon type, full of Sharkmen and Aquathrians. They protect the precious Ancient Tablet Fragment. You need to have 100 reputation at a town to take this quest. With this update, our hero can complete all the quests for a town lord and find the fragments to piece together the whereabouts of the Final Boss.
Hi everyone, We released a major patch for our Beta testers last week, let us put here in detail what has been updated.
We put a short introduction at the start of the game that tells a bit of lore.
On the gameplay side, the players will now have two Talent Stones at the beginning of the game. We had appointed a Talent Stone for each character background but realized it takes time for the players to reach to a second one. Combination of two stones makes early game a lot more interesting. In order to boost this change, we introduced new Talent Stones:
Fire Arrow
Warcry
Crippling Shot
Bleeding Strike
Stunning Strike
We will add more and be working on balancing them in the coming days.
On the overworld, we reduced number of towns so completing all quests from all Lords becomes a more achievable target. However, we added a new specialized building: The Old Lighthouse. The Hero can rest and eat at the lighthouse. It has a shop which sells cheap seafood. We added new seafood to make this market all the more colorful. At the docks, there may be an NPC giving you package delivery or escort missions.
We added a new incident on the overworld where you meet a traveler who needs to go to a town and asks for your help.
Also, if you have taken on an escort quest, there is a chance that bandits or cultists will ambush you and want your passenger. You can surrender the passenger and abandon mission or fight. This also applies to item or atrifact retrieve missions. After you finished the dungeon and took the artifact, there is a chance that bandits or cultists will come after you and demand what you carry.
Here is a super fun video from Mr. Delightful showing some of the latest changes:
For those interested, he made other videos of Terra Randoma too. In one of his earlier videos, he took an escort quest from a town, then as soon as he left, an Epidemic broke and he wondered if this is why the NPC wanted to leave the town. He then suspected whether the NPC was infected and this would affect him, or the town he is taking the NPC to. This is exactly what we hoped for: all the incidents and random events coming together to ignite imagination of a player and a story emerging from gameplay.
Terra Randoma Beta testing continues and we are adding new content based on comments from testers, writers, content creators and fellow indie developers.
Most importantly, we decided to add more quests to towns and more incidents to the overworld, to make new player experience more interesting. We aim to increase variety and replayability on the one hand, and imply existence of a main quest on the other.
Adding Aquathrians was the first step to this and now we have new enemies:
Cultists: Seeking to awaken the Ancient Evil that lies beneath the island, these enemies kidnap people, search for artifacts and use violent means to raise funds for their mission. Like other human characters in the game, they may equip both melee and ranged weapons and they are not shy of using poison or other tricks.
Coral Spiders: Allies to both Cultists and Aquathrians, these amphibious creatures move slow but have high defense. Their blade-sharp claws enable bleed attacks.
We added variations to the townsfolk quests as well. They used to ask you to retrieve a stolen object or release a kidnapped relative from enemies. Now they can also ask you to take revenge from a villain or find an artifact. We also extended escort mission so now if bandits ambush you while you are escorting someone, they will ask you to surrender the NPC to them, and you may decide that he is not worth the fight.
We also added a brand new quest type: Infested (or Haunted) house. Townsfolk now may require you to clean a summer house or cabin in the woods from certain invaders.
We are adding more variety on other fronts too. One of the chest-likes that you meet is a Dead Adventurer. If you search him, you can find all sorts of items. With new additions, you can now meet other unlucky NPCs on the overworld and inside dungeons with more specific loot, like a dead Alchemist with more possibility to find potions.
Speaking of content creators, here is a few more preview gameplay videos you can watch:
We also want to refer to this great first impression article by hardcase on turnbasedlovers where he concluded as follows: “What I really appreciated above anything else is the fact that Terra Randoma tries to represent a ‘new kind’ of roguelike: very accessible for novices but also very enjoyable for hardcore fans of the genre.”
