Jamestown

They grew corn and tobacco in colonial Jamestown on Mars back in the 1600s. Sir Walter Raleigh took up arms, via a spaceship, to fight the Spanish-Martian alliance.

I don't think any of this is true, but this was history as described to me by Tim Ambrogi, one of the developers of the four-player shoot-em-up called Jamestown that chronicles these events.

If you want to check the authenticity of the game, to see if it matches with history as you know it, check out the $10 game, which is out now on Steam. It actually came out during E3 in June, which is how I missed our own item about it finally launching. Maybe I should read more of the stories we run on Kotaku from our own Luke Plunkett who has heretofore monopolized coverage of this game around here. Not any more, Luke!

Jamestown was one of the PAX 10, a batch of stellar indie games showcased at this past weekend's Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle.

Hi,

I fear those moments, when you make a massive update to try to solve issues for some players... but in the other hand you make collateral damage by causing some trouble to others...

Here we go, Blocks That Matter has been updated, version is 1.0.0.1 (readable from main menu).

Here is the change log:

----------------------------------------------
BUG FIXES

- Windows 7 64bits won't launch (hope this will not conflict with other configuration)

- Sounds sometimes don't play in edit mode (there is also a sound bug about mini loop in one of the tracks... but i didn't figured out how to fix yet)

- in community levels: take more that 99 blocks of 1 matter freeze the game

- conflict Y button (et keyboard E) with Join group option in gamepad/keyboard configurations menus

- missing @Packaging folder in Community/MyWorkspace folder, avoiding player to submit levels of their creation (can be fixed manually by creating the folder by yourself)

- community menu: prevent thumbs up/down texts to overlap when more than 99 votes are here

- some issues in drill upgrade in community level and test/play situation (some level are broken because of that, like iron drillabe while the creator was well indicating that the Tetrobot couldn't drill iron)

- Achievement "Be our guest" fixed (auto triggered on next main menu launch)

- Achievement "Big Mama is watching" fixed (auto triggered on next main menu launch)

- Achievement "Acceptable in the 80s" fixed. Player will have to redo it, like in the 80s

----------------------------------------------
NEED TO BE FIXED

Of course or lot of bugs remain. I won"t enumerate all here. But you certainly know what I mean if you encountered some.

One on my top priority is the OSX Lion launch from Steam issue (see: http://steamcommunity.com/games/blocksthatmatter/announcements/detail/1387327810249335849)
----------------------------------------------

Thanks again for your support and patience with use. Releasing a Java game based with Steam integration is not an easy thing... but we wanted to bring you the best experience possible, but if you run into trouble, don't hesitate to contact us via:

Thanks you again, awesome community!

Hi!

If you got trouble to launch the game from Steam using Lion (I'm sure you do!), please try the following thing during the time I'm trying to find a clean solution:

- Launch the Steam client,

- then open a finder,

In finder, press "command + shift + g", then it will ask you where you want to go:
- enter "~/Library" ("~" on mac is Alt+n)

- Then go to "Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/blocks that matter/"

You'll find and .app in there "BTM_launcher_osx",
- double click it, can you tell me what happen?

- if it works, you can create an Alias of this app (right clic/command clic) and then choose "Make Alias" then drop the Alias where you want (like the desktop). You'll have to launch Steam client to be able to run this!

If it doesn't work, you can also try the following:

- Open a Terminal (there is an application called Terminal in Spotlight)
- type this line in the Terminal:
cd ~/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/blocks\ that\ matter/
(press enter to validate)
- then type this one:
java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -Djava.library.path=. -jar BTM.jar -d32
(enter to validate)

I'm working on it, it's tricky since I only got a SnowLeopard, I borrowing machiens for few hours (thanks Aruno!)

Thanks you for your patience!
