SONG OF HORROR COMPLETE EDITION - Pablo Seara
Dear Song of Horror fans,

We are continuing with the unveiling of all the references and easter eggs we have placed in Song of Horror! You can check the first update with the references to Episode 1 here.

And now, these are all the Easter Eggs you can find in Episode 2, SPOILERS AHEAD:

• On one of the mailboxes, you can read the names Ellen and Amanda Ripley (from Alien).

• The refrigerator magnet is from “Toluca Lake”, which appears in Silent Hill 2 and 4.

• The security guard’s name is Walter Sullivan, the antagonist in Silent Hill 4. You can see his picture (sporting a beard) on his work jumpsuit (left behind in the tool shed).

• Erica’s guitar is made by a brand called Takamine. Not only is this a real brand, but also an important character in Project Zero / Fatal Frame.

• In one of the apartments on block 2 lives one Joseph Schreiber, the previous tenant of room 302 in Silent Hill 4: Entrance 2, 3rd flood, door B. You’ll need the storage room keys to enter. If you manage to get in, you’ll see the iconic chained door and hear an adaptation of one of the songs from the Silent Hill soundtrack.

• The “Coltar Speaks” machine is a nod to the “Zoltar Speaks” machine in the movie BIG.

• The suit of armor in the antique shop sometimes turns its head to look towards the hallway from which the player’s character came (it doesn’t always look in the same direction… but it’s subtle). This is a reference to the aggressive armor in Alone in the Dark.

• Erica has a Cthulhu keychain. If she examines it closely, she says “Iä iä, I love my keychain”, another classic nod to the myths found in books such as “The Shadow over Innsmouth” (Iä! Iä! Cthulhu fhtagn! Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah-nagl fhtagn)

• One of the buttons that Erica wears forms the pentagram from Silent Hill.

• The license plate on René’s police car (and the other cruisers patrolling the neighborhood) reads 51L4C0, a reference to “Sulaco” from Alien.

• If you examine the shotgun on display in the antique shop several times, Daniel says “If I take it... will the ceiling start to fall over my head?”, in reference to the shotgun trap in Resident Evil 1 (Jill sandwich, anyone?

• The symbol on Erica’s t-shirt is “The Yellow Sign”, a nod to the Yellow King from the Cthulhu Mythos.

• The background image on the Ouija board found in Färber’s house is a drawing of Cthulhu.

The Triforce symbol appears on the luminol found in the bathroom, a product made by a laboratory called “Tri Labs”.

How many of these references did you already know? How many did you already find in Song of Horror? Let us know in the comments and stay tuned during the next days to discover the Easter Eggs in Episode 3, and 4!

SONG OF HORROR COMPLETE EDITION - Pablo Seara
Dear Song of Horror fans,

It is no secret that we are HUGE fans of survival horror games, but we are also fond of everything that pertains to horror in general: movies, TV shows, literature... That's why we placed so many references inside Song of Horror!

Many of you already noticed some of them, but there are still many easter eggs none of you have yet discovered. Now, we are ready to unveil all of them, starting with those hidden in the very beginning!

These are all the Easter Eggs you can find in the Prologue and Episode 1, SPOILERS AHEAD:

• The sequence in which Daniel’s car is seen arriving at Husher's Mansion from a window is a nod to one of the initial illustrations from Alone in the Dark.

• The sequence in which a playable character is introduced in front of the mansion is a nod to the original Alone in the Dark cover.

• The matchbox brand is a reference to Project Zero/Fatal Frame. Specifically, to the camera film rolls that appear in the game.

• “Himuro” is the maker of the piano in Husher's residence, a nod to the mansion in which Project Zero/Fatal Frame 1 takes place.

• There’s a poster in Julia’s room of a band called “Crimson”, which shows two red butterflies and several strings. This is a nod to Project Zero /Fatal Frame II, “Crimson Butterfly”.

• The brand on one of the electrical fuses is called “Mafuyu”, a reference to a character that goes missing in Project Zero /Fatal Frame.

• The bird scare in Episode I is a reference to an attack that players suffer in Alone in the Dark, which has a similar camera point of view. (This happens in the hall on the first floor, heading towards the master bedroom from the hall on the right. It can be triggered the first or second time you walk by, or never at all. It’s more likely to happen as you exit the master bedroom.)

• The face on the seal stamped on the letter from Färber to Husher belongs to the famous horror writer M. R. James.

• “Abbot Thomas”, the street Husher lives on, is a reference to a short story by M. R. James.

• The YES/NO choice in the “sink” is a nod to all those wicked, impossible choices we are forced to make in horror games, decisions we should always say yes to (think “put your hand in the hole on the wall” in Silent Hill 2).

• The license plate on Daniel’s car reads “1994 ATD” (1994 Alone in the Dark).

• The logo of the security company that Alina works for is the monolith from Dead Space.

• The publishing house that Etienne and Daniel work for is called “Wake Publishing”, in reference to Alan Wake.

• The flashlight that every character carries (even though it’s IMPOSSIBLE to see) is made by a brand called “Aline?”, the very question Edward poses each time he calls his partner on the radio in Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare.

• The lighter that every character carries has the logo from Alone in the Dark (again, it’s practically impossible to see, unless you drop it and it falls right in front of the camera).

How many of these references did you know? How many did you already find in Song of Horror? Let us know in the comments! We have also placed several more in the last episode, so make sure to look out for those and share them with us!

It doesn't like the light...
SONG OF HORROR COMPLETE EDITION - Pablo Seara
Dear Song of Horror fans,

Two weeks left before the launch of Episode 5!!!
We are so close to the last verse of the song! Everything is coming to an end: The horrors you witnessed. The answers you needed. The characters that you lost, and those who survived. And The Presence, now fully unleashed, connecting them all.

Make sure to check our first update where we show Jeremy Hartwood, share some details about the start of the story and more! And now, here's some new stuff you will find in Episode 5:

Playing with Lidia for the first time
You all know Lidia since the beginning of Episode 2. She is a dear friend of Daniel, a committed social worker with a tragic past. During the 70s and the 80s, Lidia witnessed many friends and even love interests fall prey to heroin addiction. Since then, she assists people in poor neighborhoods, jails, conflict zones... Wherever she can.

Lidia met Daniel at her rehab program, where she guided him on his struggle against alcoholism. She became to his eyes a savior angel, and one of his best friends to date. Now, she is ready to commit the ultimate act of selflessness: help Daniel get rid of the foreboding Song of Horror.

Understanding the past to change the future
In your terrifying adventure through Jeremy Hartwood mental hospital, you will find clues on the sinister events that took place there. One doctor in particular, Berenice Prestegard, seems to know more than anyone else. After all, she was the professional analyzing the mental state of Ariadne LeGrant-Amsberg when she was a child...

In certain moments of Episode 5, you will have the opportunity to play as Dr. Prestegard in brief flashbacks from the 1920s. These scenes from the past will shed some light on the mysteries behind the LeGrant-Amsberg family, the song, and of course, The Presence. Will you be able to handle the truth?

Ariadne, the central piece of the puzzle
Through Berenice's flashbacks, you will meet Ariadne as a child. She hasn't changed much since then: driven mad by the effects of the song, everything she does and says doesn't seem to make any sense at all. Maybe this last trip will help you finally understand her, unraveling the warped thoughts trapped in the corners of her deranged mind.

The Presence, unchained
We have unleashed the Presence into Jeremy Hartwood! We are making sure that it behaves properly with our final tweaks, hunting you down through the creepy alleys of the hospital when you least expect it.

You are in its domains now: you can stay quiet, you can hide, you can run... But it will eventually catch up to you. Make sure to find everything you need to put on an end to its curse. This is your last chance.

The coda to the Song of Horror
We have spent the last six years of our lives creating Song of Horror, our unique take on survival horror. It hasn't been easy: developing the AI behind The Presence, designing the mechanics tied to the permadeath, and building the Song of Horror universe were steep challenges to overcome. We are proud to see how everything is coming along. But most importantly, we are so happy to see how you all are embracing this experience. The last moments of Song of Horror will leave you all speechless!

Beware of The Presence!

It's all over. Just a moment ago… I…
SONG OF HORROR COMPLETE EDITION - Pablo Seara
Dear horror enthusiasts,

We have finished the beta of Song of Horror Episode V: The Horror and the Song! We thought this would be a perfect moment to share with you new images and details of this last episode... So here we go!

The end is near
Following the events of the previous episode, Daniel and his companions are now at a crossroads. He knows he is running out of time: the clock is ticking, faster than ever, closing the gap between his life and his death. His only hopes now rest in the information gathered in his most precious finding to date: Argos LeGrant's Diary, where he finds a hidden note with a critical clue. Desperate, he truly feels this is his last opportunity to survive, and thus, he heads to Jeremy Hartwood Mental Hospital, in chase of the answer that will finally set him free from The Presence.

Calling your friends, one last time
In "The Horror and The Song", the character selection works differently. Looking at Daniel's phone contact agenda, you can only choose one person to play this episode. If they die, it's Daniel's turn.

Exploring Jeremy Hartwood, the forgotten mental hospital
Jeremy Hartwood Mental Hospital, once a recognized healthcare institution in the early XX Century, is now an abandoned building in the middle of nowhere. This is the place where Ariadne spent her childhood. Just like Daniel, the staff of the hospital was trying to understand her odd behavior... Were they able to finish their research?

Jeremy Hartwood is not only the last stage of Song of Horror, but also our take on the quintessential horror setting: the abandoned mental hospital. You will traverse the different wings of this oppressive facility to advance in Episode 5. We have even set a unique enigma where we push you to think about how certain elements can affect the building in different places (or as a whole).

We are also focusing on the past in this episode: not only from the story perspective, but design-wise. Since you are in a XIX century Mental Hospital, you will find old documents and items that tell the story hidden within its walls. Some of them will expand your knowledge of the Song of Horror universe, while others will become the key to complete the story.

Next step: Integrating The Presence

Now that Episode 5 is in place, we are focusing on the manifestations of The Presence in Jeremy Hartwood. The behavior of the AI behind the Song of Horror antagonist, as you know from your scary encounters, is unpredictable, and we have to make sure that The Presence does not escape from the boundaries of the hospital ;)

We are also adding the new characters and scenes, and working on the voice acting, general polish and high quality you can expect from this final episode. We will show you more about our latest progress in a future update, so stay tuned!

Take care.

"I need to sleep. I can only hope the nightmares won't be as horrible as real life."
SONG OF HORROR COMPLETE EDITION - Pablo Seara
Dear Song of Horror fans,

Recently, we have received several questions about how the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic might affect Song of Horror’s development.

Protocol Games is a Madrid (Spain)-based development studio. As you know, both Spain and Madrid are being hit hard by COVID-19, and we ourselves had to adjust our procedures to comply with current safety restrictions and regulations. We have set ourselves up to develop Song of Horror remotely as efficiently, considering the limitations of remote work.

Our decision to stay at home has proven to be beneficial since all four of us have been sick these past few weeks, with mild yet unpleasant symptoms coherent with a potential coronavirus infection. Despite this situation, we are giving our all and doing our absolute best to guarantee the level of quality you have come to expect from us.

However, there are certain aspects of development that escape our control. One of these cases is the voice recording for Episode 5. The voice actors behind the characters of Song of Horror are currently staying at home as well, and the recording studio based in Paris is closed, following the recommendations of the healthcare system. We are looking for solutions to this and other occurrences with the help of our publisher, Raiser Games, who are also working remotely and helping us during this global situation.

Because of the previous set of events, we have made the hard decision of launching the final episode of Song of Horror on May 28th. We believe this is necessary to deliver the perfect ending to the Song of Horror story.

We will keep you informed on the development progress of Episode 5 starting tomorrow, when we will share a first-look on the final episode of Song of Horror.

Stay safe.

SONG OF HORROR COMPLETE EDITION - Pablo Seara
Dear Song of Horror fans,

We've had a blast watching you all play and get scared by The Presence! Each Song of Horror moment you share with your friends, family, and followers on social media helps us spread the word about the game, and we appreciate it a lot. That's why we wanted to dedicate a shout-out to all the content creators of Song of Horror by sharing with you some of our favorite scares!

We have gathered several clips from the Song of Horror community in this playlist right here. If you want us to add your own scary moment to the list, send us your video or a link to your YouTube/Twitch clip through Twitter, or write us at support@raisergames.com.

With that out of the way, here are some of our favorite scary moments!

Some of you might have experienced this unique moment in Episode 2. MsKILLIONAIRE certainly did! Doors are meant to be fear in Song of Horror for a reason after all...

Layna built up the courage to approach a nightmarish, crying girl. She might have gotten something in return, but she didn't expect what followed next!

Sometimes, when you are so immersed in Song of Horror, the tension is so high that even the simplest things can trigger you! Ardasheg experienced that in her own flesh when looking for the exit of Episode 2 infamous basement.

Some of you might think you are safe when you are just looking at an object... Think twice! JERICHO learned this the hard way.

The introduction of the hiding mechanic in the first episode doesn't fail to take players off-guard. Here's the genuine (and hilarious) reaction of knekro to the Presence:

One of the many examples of how The Presence can mess with you: expect the unexpected! DieDooooni thought she was ready for it... But she wasn't at all!

The first rule of Song of Horror is: always listen to doors to check for The Presence. The second rule of Song of Horror is: ALWAYS listen to doors to check for The Presence. BogOtter paid the price for breaking both rules!

Speaking about doors: if someone is opening and closing a door in a haunted house... Do not open it, ZulZorander!

These couple of streamers thought they could chill out in a creepy Abbey. Nothing further from reality... the Presence was just lying dormant!

You all know the drill: you are casually talking to your audience (like Games4Kickz here) and the Presence decides this is the best moment to scare the hell out of you!

Like many players thought at the time, Lusth believed she was safe after turning on the lights in the first episode of Song of Horror...

Doors aren't the only thing you should worry about: Windows are also places where The Presence likes to manifest. Seroths didn't see this coming!

To all the content creators above and the Song of Horror community: Thank you for playing!

Stay alert.

The Protocol & Raiser Games Teams.
SONG OF HORROR COMPLETE EDITION - Pablo Seara
Dear Song of Horror fans,

Song of Horror was designed to be a challenging, scary experience where permadeath is essential. We want you to feel the true fear and pressure of losing a character forever, that every action you take has a meaningful impact, that mistakes have real consequences... But also, that these consequences promote changing characters and experiencing Song of Horror from different perspectives.

However, we understand that every player is different. Some of you wanted to enjoy the story and gameplay of Song of Horror without permadeath getting in your way.

Now, thanks to your participation in our latest poll, we already know your final answer: you want Song of Horror to have a game mode without permadeath and keeping the same aggressiveness level of The Presence. You can check all the results of the survey right here:

This new game mode will be called E.T.A. Hoffmann, where players can choose another character or re-start from the last checkpoint when a character dies. The Presence will also have the same difficulty level as MR James. We will launch the E.T.A. Hoffmann difficulty option alongside Episode 5, so look forward to that![/b]

We recommend playing Song of Horror with permadeath for the first time... But, if the game was inaccessible to you due to this mechanic, we hope that the E.T.A Hoffmann difficulty will allow you to still enjoy it!

Stay safe everyone!

The Protocol & Raiser Games Teams.

That place, that melody... God... I'm running out of time.
SONG OF HORROR COMPLETE EDITION - Pablo Seara
Dear Song of Horror fans,

We want to know your thoughts. There are many players that would like to play the game without the permadeath mechanic. They want to enjoy the story and gameplay without the worry of losing a character forever or restarting an episode.

Because of the previous reason, we are considering adding a new difficulty option called E.T.A. Hoffmann, where players can choose another character or re-start from the last checkpoint when a character dies.

We encourage you to participate in a quick poll right here, to know if you would like to see this new game mode added to Song of Horror. We will close the poll on April 12th, so you have 10 days to participate!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and opinions about Song of Horror. As you can see, we are always listening to you and considering your feedback. We encourage you to keep doing so on the Steam Forums, the best place to speak up your mind.

Stay healthy everyone!
