Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York - jglowacki
Dear #vamily members, Coteries of New York has launched on PC a little more than 24 hours ago! :)

First of all, we'd like to thank everyone, who decided to buy the game. Thank you for your trust, your continuous support, kind words and great pieces of advice. A game means nothing without a community and we feel that we really found a lot of new friends, who share our love and passion for Vampire: The Masquerade.

We're humbled by all positive reviews and comments, we appreciate many of you stood for Coteries of New York in many discussions, which started since the release. Still, it would be unfair to say that everything went smoothly and everyone's happy.

Even though we're pleased with the number of copies sold, it has never been our goal to simply earn some money and forget about all else. We're Vampire: The Masquerade tabletop RPG players for many years and many of us - members of the development team - are proud members of the VtM community in Poland. We treat all of you as fellow Vampire fans, we don't see our relation as a seller-customer deal. We want to build a bond, based on the same positive emotions, known to everyone who experienced Vampire: The Masquerade game and fell in love with the setting and mood.

Therefore our goal is to be 100% transparent in communicating things and mixed user score indicates that we failed some part of the community we respect most deeply. We believe you deserve an explanation, when it comes to some stuff that you criticize and you have every right to express your negative opinions. Please let us elaborate on some stuff we noticed you talked about very often:

  1. First of all, please be assured that we're reading every single review, every comment, every opinion, analyze every piece of advice. We hear you and we're very thankful for every voice. We do realize that despite our efforts, we didn't manage to erase every bug and couple of those devils slipped into the game. We promise that we're working as hard as possible to get rid of all of them and improve your satisfaction while playing Coteries of New York. Thank you for your patience, but also for addressing all bugs right away. We already updated the game with a small patch, aimed at erasing a few bugs. Be certain that more patches are on the way!

  2. Some of you were surprised and confused about the price discount. Some of you saw 10%, others 30% and it was our fault that we failed to properly communicate the issue. So, the default launch discount is 10% and it lasts for a week since the release. BUT, we agreed with Valve that owners of one of our previous games, called Serial Cleaner will get a loyalty discount: 20%, which stacks up with the launch dicount and that equals 30%. The problem is that Serial Cleaner owners didn't get any notification, hence the confusion. We're really sorry for miscommunicating this, what we've seen as a pleasant surprise. At least we hope that many of you managed to make good use of the 30% discount!

  3. Lack of Linux and Mac OS support - many of you were angry at us, because we removed the info regarding Linux and Mac OS support just before the launch and you were right. For several months the game's description promised that you'll be able to play Coteries of New York on Linux and Mac OS and in the end we didn't deliver. The reason for that is that the development process of the game took longer than expected. We had to postpone the release and fought hard to launch on December 11th. Because of that we didn't have enough time to properly test the Linux and Mac OS version. So, we had a hard decision to make: release versions we were not 100% certain of or add Linux and Mac OS support later. We decided we're gonna pick the second option and we paid for it when it comes to reviews, but we believe we still made a good choice. We'll make sure to add Linux and Mac OS as soon as possible, because we know that these versions are important to you.

  4. Multilanguage support: Coteries of New York is only available in English and we know that with a rabid-bite novel-like game like ours, with a lot of text, many of you would love to play the game in your native languages. Still, the game is available in English only, because we couldn't afford to pay for localization before the release. We're a small indie studio and we self-publish the game. We had to choose - whether we should move money into writing, visuals and music or pay for translating more than 210 thousand words, pay for proofreading, LQA, implementation etc. We decided that the quality of the story, art and sound is more important and we decided that as soon the game will start bringing revenues, we'll immediately explore possibilities to add more languages, one after another.

  5. Confusing description of the game: some of you criticize the description of the game on its product page. You expressed clearly that it's confusing and does not reflect precisely, what the game is like and what it is about. While writing it we thought it's fine and we never meant to lie of overpromise anything. Still, an external perspective is very precious and we thank you for the criticism. We'll adjust the description to better reflect the true nature and structure of Coteries of New York, as we don't want anyone to feel tricked or mislead!

That's all when it comes to most important things we observe appearing in reviews and comments. We hope we still deserve your amazing support. As we said before, we're open to every opinion and we treat all of them very seriously. We will work even harder to improve the quality of Coteries of New York and communication with our community.

Thank you so much for being with us! :)

Hello dear Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York players, how are you? :)

We've been reading through all the reviews and the whole feedback you sent us since launch yesterday. Your opinion is extremely important to us, and we noticed that there are still some bugs, which have a negative impact on your satisfaction while playing Coteries of New York.

Hence, we immediately rushed to build a patch, which eliminates some of these bugs and now we're happy to inform that the game has been updated and certain bugs have been erased. Here's the list:

  • fixed Stranger appearance in elevator
  • fixed Ventrue section with Stranger in car
  • fixed "...Damned if you do" achievement
  • assorted minor bug fixes
  • minor ui tweaks

I hope this small patch will immediately improve your experience while playing Coteries of New York. Please note that we're always open to every feedback, criticism and advice that will help us improve Coteries if New York.

Please share your thoughts and opinions in discussions and you can be sure, that we're reading every single one!

Thank you for being with us and your continuous support!

Best,

Dear members of #vamily, how are you? :)

Finally, this day has come and Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York has launched!

First of all, we'd like to thank every member of our community - we were amazed by the scope of interest, so many questions and kind words we read during the last couple of months since the Steam page went live.

We also want to thank Paradox and White Wolf Publishing veterans, without whom Coteries of New York would never happen. Although we self-publish the game, Paradox, who is the license holder, helped us much more we could even dream of and hours of conversations with White Wolf Publishing writers and editors, as well as social media ninjas were absolutely priceless - thanks to the community and the dedicated team of helpers on the Paradox side the development process was going smoothly, even though no development process is totally free of setbacks, delays and... surprises.

Still, the game is ready and available to all players, who use Windows. We may add Linux and Mac OS support after the launch and we will keep you updated! The development of the game has ended, but our support does not. We have some things planned for the next months, including the console release (PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch) in Q1 2020. We also encourage you to take a look at Coteries' launch trailer below!

Hence, we hope you'll enjoy our game. We're always open to listen to your feedback and face every possible criticism, of course :) We encourage you to post your reviews and the more feedback you share, the more information we obtain, the more fixes and improvements we'll be able to add to provide you with the best Vampire: The Masquerade, single player, narrative heavy experience possible!

Thank you again, it's just the beginning of our Coteries of New York journey and we're honored that you decided to travel with us!

Best,

Dear members of #vamily, how are you? 😊

We have a very important information to share! It’s both good and bad at the same time 😉

The release of the PC version of Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York will be postponed for a week, which means that the launch will happen on December 11th, 2019, at 6 PM CET / 5 PM GMT / 9 AM PT (that’s the bad part…)

The reason behind the release delay of Coteries of New York is simple – we decided to give ourselves more time to get rid of bugs and further polish the visual side of our game. We’re doing our best to provide you with the highest quality product we can and we believe that this decision brings us closer to achieving this goal (and that, my friends, is the good part!)

Although we understand that you’re waiting impatiently for Coteries of New York for some time, we also humbly ask for your understanding and a little more patience.

With this in mind, I thank you for your amazing support and engagement and please remember that we’re always open to listen to your questions and feedback!

Thank you so much for being with us!
All the best to you,
Jacek @ Draw Distance

Hello, everyone! How has summer been treating you so far?

Here at Draw Distance, we’re longingly staring at the blue skies outside our windows as we’re entering the final phases of development of Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York, our upcoming narrative-focused, fully licensed game set in the globally renowned universe of Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition.

As time passes, we unveil more and more information about Coteries of New York. In our last press release, published by many media outlets around the world, we shared tons of data regarding the gameplay, mechanics and story.

Here’s the tl;dr list of key information we shared about Coteries of New York:

  • Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York presents the conflict between two vampiric factions: the traditionalist Camarilla and the fiercely independent Anarchs in New York
  • It's a unique, atmospheric, single-player narrative experience, set in the rich, fully-licensed, globally-recognized universe of Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition.
  • Coteries of New York present players with choices that matter, aiming to deliver a dark, atmospheric, and emotional narration mixed with morally challenging dilemmas, and many potential paths leading to the story’s finale.
  • We plan to include significant branching and reactivity, so that the players feel their decisions influence the world around them and encourage multiple playthroughs for those invested in the world and story of Coteries of New York.
  • You are a newly-fledged vampire in New York. You must learn what it means to be one of the Kindred in a huge, vibrant, contemporary metropolis.
  • You will make choices for your character, including which storylines to pursue and how to approach the different situations presented. You will be presented with branching dialogue choices, memorable characters - all among iconic locales of New York City. You’ll be able to use Disciplines appropriate to your clan to charm, sneak, intimidate or kill, and your choices will determine your path.
  • You’ll build your Coterie and learn your undead companions’ deepest secrets… or see them abandon you.
  • Although you start off as part of the authoritarian vampire sect called the Camarilla, you soon learn that other factions exist - chief among them, the independent Anarchs. Your paths will inevitably cross theirs, but whether you choose to shun them, or try to learn more about what they represent, will be your decision.
  • While the game is primarily text-driven and story oriented, several mechanics reflect the dark truths of being one of the Kindred.
  • Hunger is used to indicate the constant need for blood that vampires must deal with nightly. Characters have the opportunity to hunt for blood during quests. Ignoring this need leads to warnings in the game’s fiction, and if disregarded for too long, to consequences that include succumbing to the Beast
  • Humanity is a measure of how moral and rooted in humanistic principles the character is. This rating is used by the game to modify the results of choices in quests, offer additional story choices, or even lock certain choices out.
  • Finally, the Masquerade rating tracks how well the character blends in with mortal society. Staying inconspicuous and hidden from prying eyes is even more important for vampires than ever, due to the existence of the so-called Second Inquisition, a clandestine hunt for vampires concealed within global government agencies. Secrecy and not flaunting your supernatural powers in the sight of mortals is of utmost importance.

That’s all the information we’ve prepared for today. In the upcoming updates we will unveil more about the characters, Clans, Disciplines and different types of quests!

Oh, and by the way, check out the game's main page on Steam - you'll find four brand new pre-alpha screenshots there!

We're hope you're pleased with the amount and weight of the information we provided. Stay tuned, as we're preparing to share our first gameplay trailer with you soon!

Thanks!
Best,
Jacek @ Draw Distance team
