In this world, consumed by neverending conflict, sometimes only an outsider will get the job done.

And that's you.

Johnny Silverhand, the Keanu Reeves fella, in a frame from E3 2019's Cyberpunk 2077 cinematic trailer.

Hopefully, we’ve all made peace with Cyberpunk 2077 not coming out this week. But that doesn’t mean today has to be entirely free of neon-tinted nonsense. The latest (and final) episode of developer streamshow Night City Wire just wrapped up, an auditory showcase on the game’s soundtrack headlined by a new trailer Johnny “actually Keanu Reeves” Silverhand.

Cyberpunk 2077 player character V is strapped in a chair, ready to 'braindance'. A young woman with green and pink hair, and lots of tattoos, is leaning on one arm of the chair looking at them.

In the most recent Night City Wire (which to my eyes seemed a pretty obvious attempt to reassure everyone that the current gen console builds work totally fine, pls don’t cancel your Xbox preorders) showed large chunks of a mission called Automatic Love. It’s the most recent peek at the game in action that we’ve seen, ahead of the delayed launch on December 10th and another Night City Wire tonight.

There were a lot of fun details revealed by that footage. But there is one, small and basically inconsequential, that I cannot stop fixating on.

There is a lot of muzzle flash.

Now that Cyberpunk 2077 is delayed again until December 10th, what are you to do? You’ve grown a lurid blue mohawk, your leather jacket is almost worn in, and your prescription mirrorshades are ready for collection at Specsavers – but for what? You might as well use this time to explore all games cyberpunky, from edgy and nihilistic griping about how the future sucks to wacky cyberjapes that make you wanna jump up and shout HACK THE PLANET. I have some recommendations.

Right now, as I’m sure you’re aware, none of us are allowed to touch anything with our hands, in case we spread viral loads from yesterday’s grubby front door to today’s gaping mouth hole. Many of us are adapting to this by instead using our feet to take on many everyday hand tasks; I am typing this with my long and dextrous toes. Feet: they’re the new hands!

I assume this is the reason that publishers, scenting feet on the air, are increasingly partnering with shoe companies to make trainer tie-ins for their games. Either that or there has been some sort of consumer survey indicating that we all really want to showcase our favourite games with shoes, the one item of clothing that The Shawshank Redemption has taught me people do not look at. I do not understand this new merch trend, is what I’m saying. But the thing is, I would totally> buy video game shoes if they weren’t all embarrassing to wear. (more…)

Cyberpunk 2077 screenshot showing the character Johnny Cyberhand in a diner with his feet propped up on the table

The latest footage of shiny swearing simulator Cyberpunk 2077 is taken from the new Xboxes, but that hardly matters to an enlightened PC audience, does it?

Wait, come back! Keanu is in it a little bit! Phew. Thanks for returning. Yes, in this Night City Wire Special, Keanu Reeves reprises his classic role of ‘Keanu Reeves’ from the Keanu Reeves Hexalogy. There are no spoilers, as it’s more concerned with showing off the differences between the Xbox One X and the Xbox Series X. That might be to allay fears about the current generation of consoles after a recent investor call revealed that the latest delay was primarily down to the current gen builds needing additional development time.
