It's time for part two of our development team introduction. Say hello to the last two members of the current team, Jao and Vatalia!
Jao
I am Jao, pronounced Jay-Oh. I'm the Creator/Lead Developer/Programmer of Day of Dragons and Owner of Beawesome Games, LLC. I work with all the other developers to guide the creative direction of the game. This includes concept design, music, sound, visual fx, and animation.
When I'm not doing that I'm either playing with my dogs, feeding my dogs, letting my dogs out to go potty, bathing my dogs, petting my dogs, or programming in Unreal Engine while my dogs bring me their toys. I love animals and dragons are animals that we can make into whatever we want them to be, including heroes instead of villains. I'm an animal hoarder, I've had dogs, cats, raccoons, hamsters, rabbits, hermit crabs, turtles, some fish, and a mourning dove with a broken wing that I rescued from my cat and nursed back to health then set freeeeeeeeeee. Fun fact, before I wanted to make video games, I wanted to be a veterinarian.
I love learning, it's one of my passions. I've attended 3 colleges and a trade school for a total of 21 semesters learning that I could just have bought all the books and read them and learned everything on my own for a whole lot cheaper. Hindsight is 20/20 right? Wait... it is 2020.... ːsteamhappyː
In addition to being a computer/animal nerd, I'm also a sci-fi nerd, marvel, lord of the rings, original star wars (don't get me started on the new trilogy). I also love to sing, play instruments, read, and write.
Vatalia
Hello my name is Vatalia! As part of the DoD dev team I help with 2D creature concepts. Also I help the game look pretty by testing and providing feedback on any visual and mechanical bugs or issues. I will also be working along side our animator to bring you realistic dragon and AI movements.
Some things about me is that I went to college (suprising right?) And completed my course for animation art and design. Um...I enjoy gaming and definitely having parrot force me to write about myself, not to mention having her parrots scream in my ears when shes in VC. Oh how they love to scream.... and I love cookies and fruit salad. I am dragon momma! I will steal all the babus and make a dragon babu battle arena! I look forward to flying with you all!
Dev Q&A
Here are our answers to some of the top Dev Q&A from our discord community! The channel will be cleared and open up once again for the next round of questions. If your question didn't get answered this round, feel free to post it again!
Question One
Q: Previously updates regarding the game were being provided via discord, going forward where will information regarding the game be posted?
Rose: We will be providing patch note updates and information regarding Day of Dragons via the steam page first and then shared on discord afterwards moving forward.
Question Two
Q: How many regions of color will the dragons have? Will it all be just one set color palette?
Jao: Each dragon will have its own unique patterns which will be comprised of one to five colors that will be used to create the "skin" variations for each dragon.
Question Three
Q: Why wasn't an animator hired sooner?
Vat: We had a specific animator/rigger picked out and this person had a contract until January. We are very picky about who we bring on board. We want someone who is a more realistic animator to bring you a better experience being a dragon.
Question Four
Q: What happened to Jao?
BP: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ..... Just kidding. He is focusing on developing the game instead of social media at this time.

Thank you for reading and we hope you enjoyed learning more about our team! We can't wait to show you what we have in store and we are happy to have you on this journey with us. Join us for our next blog for more behind the scenes information!
I'd like to introduce to you all the Plasma Dragon. A dragon with the ability to turn itself invisible and that acts as a glass cannon class in the game, high damage ranged plasma shot with low health. Fast in the air, a little clumsy on the ground and in water, this dragon was made to fly and stalk the night.
The Plasma Dragon (official name to be revealed later) is our 3rd custom dragon concept to be revealed and completes the Rock < Paper < Scissors dynamic in the base game. Also revealed is the Plasma Dragon Egg which would be incubated by the Plasma Dragon when our nesting system is implemented.
Stay tuned for more updates and reveals here in our News feed!
We are excited to share our first development blog with you all!
Anywho, say hello to (part) of your development team! The rest will introduce themselves in the next development blog.
Bad Parrot
Hello! I am the Creature Anatomy & Physiology, Creature Sketch Artist, AI Behaviour Developer on the team. I help guide the modelers and animators to create awesome and realistic dragons and creatures. I have a bachelors degree in Zoology as well as 6+ years working with native wildlife in a triage environment. My background working hands on with species ranging from hummingbirds to bald eagles, deer mice to bobcats, gives me the tools I need to help bring the dragons of DOD to life.
I also help out with the discord while we are working to make improvements and force everyone to write paragraphs for the dev blogs. Oh, and I have parrots which are bad.
I am Rose, I work with the team as a dragon design and history consultant as well as a bug tester. I have loved dragons since I was a child and fondly remember reading every dragon book I could get my hands on and reading them cover to cover. That passion and desire for dragons has stayed with me to this day and drives me to learn everything that I can about dragons and their place in the history and cultures of the world.

Hello!

I am in charge of all social media pertaining to Day of Dragons as well have taken over the responsibility of the Official Day of Dragons discord after recent events. These duties entail leading the mods, admins, and making the discord more streamline to fit the community’s needs. I also help answer development questions, respond to emails involving kickstarter and was forced to write this by Bad Parrot. Some things I enjoy are bagels, fancy coffee, pvp and bats. Hope to see you all around :).
Hi I am Jia Hao, 家豪 and I am an Character & Creature Concept Designer & Illustrator. My passion is to create art & design that celebrate the diversity of life on earth and far far away, including illustrating the wonderful wildlife on our mother earth and designing imaginary creatures that possibly lives on another planet.
Hello, everyone. My name is Rey. I am a aspiring composer, I like watching movies, reading books and piñas coladas. I am a nerd that likes to work with other nerds ;) When I am not writing music I am playing video games and listening to music. Nice to meet you everyone.
In addition to sharing our work and behind the scenes information in the development blogs, we will also be answering a handful of questions from our discord community in each blog. To start us off, we picked some interesting model related ones!
Question One
Q: Hi! Was just wondering, are there going to be different models for the dragons in different stages of lifecycle? Like will baby dragons look more baby-like or just be miniature versions of adult models? Thanks!
BP: There will be different life stages for each species, including an adorable baby model. Dragons will age through progressive growth into their adult models. Some species will also have a final growth stage known as the alpha stage, where their models will slowly change into elder dragons.
Question Two
Q: Will there be different body styles of dragons? drakes, wyrms, eastern, etc?
BP: Yes and no. At this time, we currently have plans for classic dragons, wyverns, and drakes.

The world of DoD is as unique and diverse as our own. Dragons aren't the only creatures scurrying about. Here is a introduction to two of the many species of AI planned in the future.
Thornbacked Crawler
Small insect-like creatures, the Thornbacked Crawler can be found almost all over the world. Their diet consists of decaying carcasses and unguarded dragon eggs, making them either a great clean-up crew or a bothersome pest depending on the situation. The main defense of the Thornbacked Crawlers is their formidable thorn-like spines located on their back. However, these small creatures can become a tasty meal for hatchling dragons that learn to overcome this obstacle.
Bulbous Spined Scrab
The Bulbous Spined Scrab got its named from the shape of its abdomen and the poison-filled spines which it can retract at will. Females are over twice the size of their male counter parts which are roughly the size of a dragon’s egg. Curious by nature, Bulbous Spined Scrabs will often study its adversary before deciding its next move. A grand meal for any young dragon, hatchlings must be careful how they approach this creature. The Scrab’s spines follow its target and can easily puncture a hatchling’s skin. If only there was a way to distract it…
These and more unique AI species will be joining the world of DOD starting in 2020. Stay tuned for updates and join our discord for sneak peeks at more custom content.
Server browser is only showing 1 server at a time in the listing, workaround is to use the server name filter to find the server you want until I fix it tomorrow. I'm tired.
Added Server Filters, you can now filter by server name, max results, official only, hide empty, hide full, sort by players, and sort by ping.
Added admin command /save to force a world save of all player data before restarting server.
Enabled Auto save interval in server config. iAutoSaveInterval=300 by default. (seconds between server autosaves) (refer to #resources server .zip download for config instructions)
Temporarily added Snow and a Christmas redacted in the redacted for the Holidays, but you have to find it!
New dragon bite sounds added
New dragon species sounds added
New pookie sounds added
All dragons now have 100% Gremlin Resistance, Gremlins, however, apply slow during threat, broadcast, whine, and cry vocalizations
Added /die command due to popular vote
CHANGED STUFF
Official servers are now Red in server list
/stuck command now moves you farther away to better help people get unstuck
Pookie is no longer an underground vacuum
Pookie can now only be played once per session
FIXED STUFF
Optimization pass on corpses, they shouldn't cause so much lag on the server
Admins should now be able to override server capacity
Session Banning players should now keep players from entering your server during session
Config banning players should now keep players from entering server
Whitelisting should now work properly
Fixed infi fire breath on Fire Wyvern if killed when breathing fire
BROKEN STUFF
Do not carry hatchlings through portals
Server Filters may not all work and still need tested
"Using specialized pit organs, this hunter can sense the infrared thermal radiation produced by other species. Even the most well camouflaged adversaries must be cautious when the Flame Stalker is on the hunt."
We are proud to introduce our first custom made dragon, the Flame Stalker!
The Flame Stalker uses its large flight muscles to soar above the world and locate targets using its special ability, Thermal Sense. These beasts have well earned their spot in the Hunter Class. They rely on their powerful Fire Breath to dispatch their prey and defend against rivals. An ambush hunting style is the best choice for a Flame Stalker as their average speed and short distance fire breath make range attacks difficult.

The Flame Stalker and more unique species will be joining the world of DOD in 2020. Stay tuned for updates and join our discord for sneak peeks at custom content.
